It was quite amazing to watch this sketch unfold. Looking at the photo, I would have been completely intimidated, wondering where in the world to begin. Thank you for your step by step breakdown. Much appreciated.
I definitely agree. Wonderful technique or style. Loomis method is not for. This style resembles a bit to mine with imorovements. I'll definitely adopt those dots. Thanks for sharing.
The eyes came Outta nowhere with a few simple moves. It came alive after that wowa. And dried water colour has this special life to it. It's such a simple thing, take colour add water but the way you use it is brilliant and needs to be respected. Seems easy but that's because of your talent and practice :)
This and the portrait prior to it have been so so helpful. I really want to have a go using your techniques. Thank you so much for two really interesting presentations.
This is brilliant, thank you. Love the simple idea of using dots for scale. I tried to draw a teapot recently but the proportions were terrible, would’ve been much easier if I’d marked it out with dots first.
I really love this style of loose lines combined with the watercolor! Been wanting to draw like this for years now, I hope this video gets me to finally give it a try. Thanks for the content!
I have been doing my sketches wrong that's why i have not improved for years, this is the first time someone showed me how to properly execute proportions w/o it being to overwhelming, such an eye opener, thank you!!
I have always wanted to make this style of art work but am too art illiterate on how people do it. It’s very helpful to watch than just drawing a circle, i prefer these dots as reference points because it challenges my observation on portraits. Thank you 👍❣️
What a nice, straightforward tutorial. Your ink and watercolor art style is beautiful (it's actually what made me click the thumbnail, on the art style alone), and I love watching the techniques behind beautiful artwork. The dots and proportion estimates are a great way to visualize without having to sketch with a pencil first, and I'll certainly be giving it a try myself! I've only used watercolors once in my life, but I've been wanting to try them again. I see you have a tutorial about watercolor washes, so I'm probably headed there next. Thanks for sharing!
I definitely find it easier to sketch along with you. I drew it the first time in pencil and a second time in ink just so I could paint it and it turned out great!
As always Scottie, that was interesting, useful and enjoyable to watch! I think a lot of people find portrait drawing the most intimidating - there is such a small margin for error. Everyone knows exactly how a face should look; the proportions and the relation of the features. It was interesting to see how carefully you added each line, and with just a few key lines the face took shape.
I think this is more useful for people who are already a bit skilled rather than newcomers. I'm starting to feel more confident with my sketches but if I went all linework right from the beginning without guidelines and the skeleton it would come up very inconsistent because I haven't developed a deep sense of space like you have.
Was loving it - the effect is great and inspired me to try but please don’t make jumps in the filming - speed up if you must but jumps are very disconcerting..
Whenever u draw it looks easy and the end product looks super and complete, when I follow ur steps and draw, the end product looks very different 😂😂😂. ❤❤ ur videos
I have an OC I like. He looks different everytime I try to skech him _-----_ ugh... also - trying to feel loose and relax while drawing seems so very hard....
I just made a sketch following yours and it's the best portrait drawing I ever made. Thank you! You're an excellent instructer.

thanks for the feedback! Portraits can be intimidating so I'm glad you liked the steps👍🏼
Proportion measurements and minimal line work for the win! Thank you for making such a concise tutorial. 🙏
i absolutely love your little shortcuts to get proportions correct

Wow... I learned so much from watching you draw this face. pls pls keep posting more videos on sketching faces loosely with pen!

You're my ultimate favorite sketch artist. Watching you makes drawing feel less intimidating, but still potentially impressive
The dot thing actually makes sense, I will definitely incorporate it in my future sketches. Thanks!

very effective and sensible! bold move with ink directly. quite enjoyable.
Perfect tutorial. Freehand is art.
I only draw and paint freehand. But you teach me something new. Thanks
Such an interesting tutorial. It was so much fun watching the sketch come alive. God bless you sir.
Awesome tutorial! I have learned so much from your tutorials, and now I find drawing to be so relaxing rather than tedious. Thank you!

it does help to have some skills but there are many people on my Patreon giving this a go for the first time with fantastic results!😊
@@SketchingScottie Nah I don't see it, you need fundamentals. You can improve this way but seems counterproductive for a newcomer
Very cool, Scottie! I'm still loving your channel and content. Keep up the variety of projects!
My whole life I’ve been estimating how far when I should be using points. Life changing
Love your videos. Thank you. ❤👏😊

You talented mofos leave me speechless. My drawings look like kindergarten doodles 😂
Drawing so loosely intimidates me because of my perfectionism but it’s something I’d like to learn
Good one!
Would you please consider doing some sketching tips videos on how to capture dogs? Love your style but prefer dogs to people, lol 🐾💜
Youve given me a baby , a brain baby. Super exited to try this out
😂👍🏼
Nice
who is the man you sketch in this video? I saw one looks like him a lot at the restaurant's wall in my hometown.
He is actually just from a stock photo website👍🏼
@@SketchingScottie yes, that was him. Mr S Tockphoto. Lovely gent.

I'm new to drawing, never did it before. Is it okay to start learning sketching, or I need to have prior experience with drawing?
Yes for sure! I make all my tutorials with beginners in mind. Just start sketching and with each tutorial you'll gain more skills.
@@SketchingScottie thanks fam
Whats the pen you're using..I thought the uni-ball pens were water soluable.
the uniball eye (or vision) micro pens are waterproof👍🏼
neat, will definitely be adding them to my art kit@@SketchingScottie
Sometimes i can draw so well and sometimes its like i cant do anything at all and youve really filled in the gaps between that here.
I have an OC I like. He looks different everytime I try to skech him _-----_ ugh...
also - trying to feel loose and relax while drawing seems so very hard....
what paper and pen are you using?
I'm using a Uniball Eye (or vision) Ultra Micro pen. Also an Etchr lab square cold press sketchbook 👍🏼
@@SketchingScottie Thank you!
nice😍
Kind of felt like I was cheating when I was drawing along, not sure if this end result has anything to do with my ability or progression 🤔
Observing isn't cheating😌👌🏾👌🏾
