I am 78 years old and learning to draw - something I've always wanted to do. I happened on this tutorial and although I have never drawn a face thought I'd give it a try. I have now done the exercise 3 times, each one more relaxed and improved. On the 3rd one, I also added some hair, following your "ribbon" analogy. I was astonished. For someone totally unschooled in drawing, I had created a very realistic looking person. I wish I could send it to you for critique. Obviously, it is not perfect (yet!) but to achieve the level I did in 3 tries is amazing. Your tutorials are excellent and I will be further exploring your channel and learning whatever I can. Thanks from Canada,
I am 74, and also never been interested in drawing / painting until now. Excited to get started with YT class instruction. Not able to do outside activities as in my younger years, but a new challenge inside home will be great therapy.
I've never been good at drawing people- I followed your tutorial and now I FINALLY have a face that looks human and not like a 10 year old drew it!! Thank you so much!
I've watched 8 other videos about face proportion and this is the first one that described how to accurately determine where to put in the chin. Thank you!!
I always drew faces and in my final 2 years of school I had art as a subject with art history as well. There I learned of a B6 pencil...we weren't allowed to use an eraser, our fingers for shading and 'wooly lines'. One line only...even when doing hair. We also had to use a live model and was never showed these circles. I got top marks for my sketches and nearly zero for my paintings!😅 Then life started and I stopped drawing, retired at 49 and with the help op RUclips I learned how to crochet, and love it! I am now 61 and my one hand is starting to hurt, so I decided to sketch again. I want to thank you for your teachings! This will make my life so much easier.
i am 81 years old,i started taking art lessons last month,i always wanted to do caricatures, and drawing funny situations in cartoon form, I don't watch much tutorial drawings as i can't make out the accents of the teachers, but your are perfect as i can follow your instructions clearly.
I am 73 years old , I started pencil drawing last month and try to learn from U tube I find your vlog the best , It is very useful for learners .Asante Sana (Thsnks) from Kenya 🇰🇪 l
I am a 69 year old senior woman, who stumbled on this as I searched for videos because I want to learn to draw faces. I'm planning to practice this a few times so I can get the basics down and then I want to look for more of your videos. I've watched a few tutorials on RUclips and yours is by far the best. You're a great teacher and I appreciate that you've broken this down to very basic steps. I feel confident after this to learn more. Thank you!!!
I am 52, and just learning how to draw. I’ve been searching for tutorials, tried a lot, but yours, for me, is far better than any other I halve tried. Thank you very much. The tips were amazing.
Perfect instructions. I just gave up an art class because there was no defined instruction as you have just shown. You ARE now my art teacher. Thank you
To answer your last question, I liked your video very much. I am just re-starting to get into drawing portraits after almost a lifetime of gap. I found earlier that I had lost sense of proportion and your instructions are very helpful. The basic structural lines and distances and gaps between facial features are key to all and one can then build up the rest of the details and shading. Thanks a lot.
I am sixty years old from Venezuela and because of stress post traumatic I've just started to learn drawing... It hasn't been easy for me, but with explanations like yours it is possible... Thanks my bro...
I am 67 years young at this date in time. I've airbrushed at a flea market for 31 years and my drawing skills had declined. In Feb 2023 I began with this video and have shared it extensively with others who wish to learn. Thank you. We all thank you.
I have been drawing faces and profiles from a child, yet I never had any formal long lasting art training. Now at 62 , I can honestly say that I have drawn a realistic looking face! Yay! Thank You
Thank you!! My Art Teacher Showed this vid and I forgot where to place the features and I had to draw myself with the features and I fought it was all over. UNTIL YOU CAME AND NOW MY HOMEWORK IS DONE COMFORTABLE ❤❤❤❤
Hi. I am 75 and want to start drawing and painting as it will be a bit more leisurely than my current woodturning and woodwork. I have looked at a few drawing tutorials and must say that this is the most comprehensive and easy to follow I found. Thank you. You are right when you say get the basic right. I shall now put your advice into practice. Wish me luck.
I'm 70 years old, and i feel very young compare to Jackie ;))); I am drawing for a month and i need a lot of tutorial to improve. But i confirm that your tutorial is the best i found on the web. Your are very clear, nothing is missing . Now, i will train and i keep you aware of my progress Sorry for my poor english. best regards
It's been a few years since I stopped drawing, I'm starting again, I've never drawn a proper realistic face like this before, you videos are really helping a lot, thank you very much!! 🥰🥰
THANK YOU FOR THE GOOD VIDEO !I LIKED IT AND NEEDED IT ! I AM ONLY 83 YEARS OLD AND JUST LEARNING TO DRAW STUFF, THANKS AGAIN! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS! SUCH TALENT WOW!
I am 33 years old and I can sing, dance, act and only thing I couldn't do was draw. So I search in the youtube and found your tutorial. It's amazing and I wish if I had a way to show your my very first drawing. Thanks again 💪
And , I am nearly 65 yrs abd doing a hand embroidery for my grand children . I am struggling to draw their faces as I was never into drawing / art work or sewing . So thank you for this lovely step by step video . Blessings from my heart .
I found your tutorial so helpful. I’m taking up sketching again at 68, and always found drawing faces a big challenge. You make it easier to tackle. Thank you!
Easy to follow instruction. I was an illustrator by profession many many years ago and I’m trying to brush up on my skills. This tutorial was perfect! Thank you!
I'm 62 and just beginning my art journey. I was so frustrated trying to draw faces! This tutorial is amazing, and just from following along, I have just made the first face I have ever made that looks right!! 😊❤🍄Thank you for sharing your technique
I have never drawn a face before but I followed your tutorial and it turned out fantastic! I wish I could share it because I amazed myself. Great tutorial!! Thank you so much!!!
This is by far the only understandable practice and the fact is that you can just see and draw without having to worrying too much about the protion. I am glad with the results i got.
I have struggled for years trying to draw faces, but I came across your video from Pinterest by accident and watched it, and I am so so glad I did because I have seen a tremendous improvement just by following your tutorial step by step!
And I'm 67 years old and just now learning to draw. Thanks to this most instructive, easy to understand and follow video, I drew a fairly passable face on my first attempt. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of the world. (Edited to correct spelling).
I must have seen and tried to draw from about a hundred tutorials. But I loved this one the best. The face I have drawn today is the best one so far. You really make it simple. Thank you.
This helped a lot! Thanks for helping me draw out a beautiful face that I gave to my best friend for her birthday!! She loved it. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH
This is the best drawing lesson that I've had ever!! Thank you for being clear and speaking slowly and in real time along with where and what your pencil was doing. I will be a follower for life.
I started teaching myself how to draw midway through last year, and thankfully there's so many awesome people like you teaching people online for free. Because I've got some of the basics down, I managed to watch this on 2x speed and pause ocassionally to draw along with you and it was so fun! Cheers for the video dude.
I really enjoyed your video. I like the architectural analogy. Most of us have not put your logic to the human form but it is there. I learned to draw with the "Sausageman" and it makes proportion fall into place. Your circle and then its division put the human face into a form that can be recreated over and over with exactness. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent with us.
Thank you so much for posting this tutorial. It's the first time I ever drew a face that looked decent and I look forward to getting better with practice.
This is the most helpful tutorial of all face drawing terchniques I have seen. I recently jumped back into my art after a three-year hiatus and I was pleasantly surprised at how well I could apply your tips and techniqes!! Thank you you so much for sharing!!😀
after sufferening 4 strokes I have poor hand control and have never done art before but i really wanted to try.Your way of teaching i really like.I have wasted reams of paper trying to get one side of the face , i'm trying to draw ,to mirror the other...know i reasilse that thats not the way to go. Think tommorow I will have a go and see what i can make. thank you so much
I could follow this tutorial easily and I love how you showed the proportions of the face. Also thank you for your added dialogue especially "how can you draw if you don't have the structure". Thank you
I really enjoyed your video. I have forgotten a lot the information that you have provided and was getting very frustrated with drawing faces. Going back to the basics will definitely bring back all the joy that I had and am rediscovering after 36 years of giving up what I loved doing for the conventional and expectations of family. Thank you!! Love your videos❤❤.
Thank you ! You are the greatest! ! Best teacher I ever met. You have given me confidence in drawing the face! I am definitely going to watch all your videos and practice getting better. I am not just copying what I see, now I am able to know the placements perfectly in what I see with confidence.
This is such a wonderful, easy-to-follow tutorial! I felt like I was missing a creative outlet in my life and wanted to try drawing and this seems like such a good guide to start with, thank you so much for sharing!!
Thank you so much for this. As I'm watching again, I realize that you have simplified the intracacies of facial proportion so that they finally make sense. Thank you.
Wow! Thanks for explaining step-by-step. This is the first time I have encountered a clear instructional video like yours, and feel truly inspired that I can at least try. I know, it won't be easy, and it might take many attempts but you make it seem so simple. Thank you.
Love it.. i used to draw face and i sometimes get it almost perfect without these patterns but it will be more fit and connected now with those patterns. Will improve more. I love how you teach and thank you for this! 😍
Hands down best art tutorial ever!!! I wish I could share my progress. Going to subscribe now and will use this tutorial as my practice guide for the next few weeks. Thank you!
This was a great video. Very well designed and concise. I got a little lost when you were cutting the lines in half but pausing did help with catching up. I love this and look forward to your other videos.
I'm so glad I found you! I'm learning to draw faces and practicing every day, but I do still struggle with the correct proportions still. This tutorial has been hugely helpful. I'm looking at the face I drew whilst watching you teach and it's as it should be proportionally. I'm so happy and will be using your method moving forward. Thank you.
Thank you so much! This is a great tutorial and has very clear instructions and it is also very easy to understand. I'm really happy of my results thanks again!
Thanks so much for taking the time to clarify how to measure and placement of facial features. You made it so easy to understand. There are so many tutorials that do more to confuse rather than clarify. For someone new learning to draw portraits I want the best and most accurate instructi
This is really good tutorial, thankyou, I used to draw and i haven't held a pencil in almost a year now because of school. I am back at it, and i am starting from the basics, this has helped a lot, thankyou.
I love the instruction the way you have simplified all the steps! I've seen so many tutorials of this, and they can be so confusing, with too many lines that are really not necessary! I also like the way you did your circle! You are now my new favorite. 😊. Thnku!
I watched this video before. It is an extremely helpful reference for drawing the basic structure of a face. i had only been able to draw bizarre/abstract/unrealistic caricatures of people before-- now i can draw more realistic faces and the recipients compliment me on my improvements!!! I tell them about your videos. I am very grateful for your tutorials- i am going to look for the videos dealing with greater detail. Thank you so much for your endeavors-- You certainly are pleasant, patient, and a skilled professional.
I’m a decent drawer, and most of my drawings of people will garner some approval…until I show people the face I was *trying* to draw. 😂 I have a really hard time nailing down the likeness of a person. I usually get very focused on getting their eyes just perfect, but then they don’t seem to fit the head, or maybe the mouth is too far from the nose and there’s no chin. I was just reading a book on portraits by Alex Powers, and he said it’s all about getting the proportions and locations of the features FIRST. I found your video because I wanted to watch someone demonstrate this, and I can absolutely see what you mean about mapping out the features. The detail can come at the end. Thank you for demonstrating so clearly!
I watched this video about two years ago and drew the best face I ever did. Life got in the way and I stopped practising. I came back now and found this video. Thank you
This is an incredible tutorial! You are a fantastic instructor, and it's nice to see in some of the comments that people around my age are just beginning to learn. I'm 59. I learned in another video tutorial that anyone can learn to draw, you just need to know how. I likened it to learning how to do cursive writing in Kindergarten and First Grade, that is like drawing. All it takes is practice. 😀Your way of breaking down the guidelines for the face is wonderful! Thank you!
I went a little off the exact way you put down markings on the drawing while trying this, but this has still helped construct it better. Thank you, this was very informative.
Wonderfully done! You were clear with the measurements. I bought the Loomis Method book years ago and some things were confusing. This is a good basic method that breaks it down in clearer steps. Thanks!

My name is Joyce lam 15 years old and I am learning how to draw
Best Tutor so far, others go way too fast for me but you speak and draw at the perfect pace! Excellent!
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Your explanations was the best! I was able to draw a face for the first time and I'm feeling confident! Thank you :)
Why am I struggling to draw the first part :(
I’m a decent drawer, and most of my drawings of people will garner some approval…until I show people the face I was *trying* to draw. Thank you for demonstrating so clearly!
retry it more and more. you're on a good way :) use different references and sketch on a daily basis
Can u plz make tutorial on stylized character or some skull 💀 with shading
Good idea. I’ll keep it in mind 🙌😎
I’m 70years and learning how to draw and enjoying so much.👏👏😍😍❤️❤️👍👍😊
Will you show me where the nose and the eyes are iconic got confused
I watched this video about two years ago and drew the best face I ever did. Life got in the way and I stopped practising. I came back now and found this video. Thank you
You’re welcome 🙏🏼 are you still doing art?
I’m just saying I think I have to go to art class 😂
This is an incredible tutorial! You are a fantastic instructor, and it's nice to see in some of the comments that people around my age are just beginning to learn. I'm 59. I learned in another video tutorial that anyone can learn to draw, you just need to know how. I likened it to learning how to do cursive writing in Kindergarten and First Grade, that is like drawing. All it takes is practice. 😀Your way of breaking down the guidelines for the face is wonderful! Thank you!
Wtf I just made 💀
Same here 💀💩
Same here
I love the tutorial, I've learnt a lot. The only fault that I found with the video was that the subtitles were blocking the drawing at some point.
Thanks!
