    I've been using it about four years. I use a homemade super soil mix. I've only used it when I transplant one gals into whatever pot I use. I haven't had any pest problems since I've been using it. Not even gnats. I guess it works ok. When I researched before I bought it, there were only vids from China, and India . Just my two cents. it does the job!!

      Just used it on my vegetables for my graduation thesis. It's important to remember that this is both a preventative and curative measure so you should spray it when your plants are young to inoculate them. Bio insecticides are generally slow so if you only spray when you see signs of an outbreak, the plants might still suffer some damage before the insecticide takes effect.

      I use another manufacturer but in theory it can kill most beneficial insects but depends on the exact strain. I have rove beetles and have used this with it’s other fungal counterpart Metarhizium Anisopliae and my beetles are thriving. It’s also causes a 20% reduction in worms reproduction but very rarely mortality. Hope this helps

    Thank you Jeremy and the BAS crew for the new product review. I'm super excited to try it out. How long does it stay alive in the soil? It seems as if you reccomend to innoculate every new plant. If my soil never hits a dry period between runs and always stays moist and alive does the BB stay alive as well? Does it build up over time after inoculating many runs in a row, and therefore not need it to innoculate at a certain point? Thx again for all you do!

    Good stuff as always; much appreciated!
    I have a question about the Root Wise enzymes:
    Someone from another soil company claims RW enzymes reduce populations of nematodes based on his study using before/after test samples and a microscope. Are his observations valid or expected? Otherwise, is something else happening?

    • @BuildASoil
      @BuildASoil  2 года назад +6

      Good question! I don't know!!! Here would be my thought process. Enzymes are a big part of the natural process and as such the BuildASoil way. I usually shy away from loose correlation results from microscope warriors. Is there a white paper study on specific enzymes? I have used many enzyme products designed for killing and at copiously high levels and still found them to be less than eradicatory. So off hand, using a very small amount of soil based enzymes seems very safe even to nematodes. So many things produce enzymes. I'm not going to pretend to know it all, and one doesn't need to understand every nuance to get great results. I look for results I want in the plant not the scope. Rootwise Enzymes are made by a USA agriculture company from Indigenous Microorganisms (IMO) fed until they produce their natural compounds. Rootwise enzymes are used in ridiculously small amounts and should absolutely help with nutrient cycling which will cause a cascade of biological responses which I have observed to be helpful to plant growth and soil health. If you have more info I'm down to find out more, but I don't think this one is important.

      Jeremy did a great job answering, but if you would like to talk Microbes, Enzymes, and Soil Biology I'm always available! Feel free to send me a message on Instagram and I'll even hop on a phone call if you'd like.

    • @cuznclive2236
      @cuznclive2236 2 года назад +3

      @@BuildASoil My thoughts exactly based on the quality of the company (RW) and it's purpose.
      I'm still curious about the reduced count of nematodes because it would be strange for him to make these statements publicly based on his success growing and the success of the business.
      As for papers, he commented to me that he doesn't put much faith in papers when the situation is instanced, as soil constantly changing. I don't agree, but whatever. Years' old pictures tell stories.
      Good stuff, and I appreciate your time! BTW, I use it regardless and have good results.
      Be well.

  • @jeremyschissler337
    @jeremyschissler337 2 года назад +3

    I speculate there is a reason rootwise didn't include it in their blend and its because it is extremely competitive and unpredictable until it has stabilized within the diversity of the populous of the substrate......even tho it may interfere with the other biology im certainly interested in attempting to isolate a strain that has a measurable affinity for fungus gnat larvae and adults...... i do believe there is a plethora of genetic variations in Build a soils product and am eager to try these tests

    Quick question about soil aeration. Can I use crushed hydroton, aka expanded clay pellets, as a soil aeration base mixer with rice hulls? Pumice is expensive to ship and hard to source locally, but thought some crushed hydroton might do the trick. I was worried about mixing with rice hulls and having too much silica or something else. Thanks!

    • @johno.7840
      @johno.7840 2 года назад +1

      sounds good to me, should balance the rice hulls nicely as hulls 'cross link' and distribute moisture but sometimes get soggy on their own, the hydroton is going to help the "drainage" as they both help the "aeration"

    Hey man. found you from mrgrowit and been watching a lot of your vids since. I had a very bad first organics go just come to an end and ended up ordering a few bags of 3.0 with craft blend and barley straw. I had a few questions if you don't mind answering. My questions are a few.
    1. I cleaned up some oyster shells and turned them into fine rocks, I'm thinking of adding it to the bottom of my living bag about 1-2 in mixed with some lava rocks. will that extra calcium interfere with any of the things added in 3.0 such as ph?
    2. I will be running in 7 gallon living bags with 3.0. Will the soil be enough to get me through veg then toping with craft blend be enough for flower? I'd obviously be doing some compost tea every so often and watering with just rain water and molasses (I'd like to add that I also will throw about 10 red worms in there and be using your coconut water every other watering)
    3. I'm using barley straw but I also raise my own meal worms. Can I top the straw with the leftover brim or should I water in the brim?
    Thanks if you end up seeing this. I've learned more this week about soil from your videos then the entire 6 months of my failed grow. I almost gave up and went back to bottles.

    Does this harm Beneficials?

    • @FarmerEverest
      @FarmerEverest 9 месяцев назад

      There is a low risk, due to a few factors such as specificity in organisms and ideal microclimates . But it is possible. Most importantly there must be stewardship of a biodiverse microbiome!

    Beauveria hasn’t been working for me at all 😩 currently having a massive aphid outbreak indoors which is just raging through my crop. Been spraying botaniguard WP and I can’t tell if it’s doing anything at all.

      @@chadwalton2128 no, but at the stage of flowering that I’m in I cannot rely on a contact pesticide. There is no way to get a product to contact the entire crop, inside every little crevice. During veg, I have no issues while using mineral oil, so long as the canopy is not crowded and I can spray or fog every square inch. But now that I’m in flower I need something that will “seek out” the aphids, which I was hoping would be beauveria and beneficial insects. I’m coming up on day 9 post spray with beauveria with no apparent effect, and release the beneficial insects tomorrow.

    Would it make sense to innocuoate cover crop with BB in a large bed or would that kill beneficial insects as well? Just ordered a 3x3 bed and thinking about application options

    I grow outdoor in the Caribbean, a lot of my pest/pathogen pressure comes in flower stage (average humidity is over 75% and temps are average 30c).
    Mostly pests I’m trying to focus on in this tricky stage, can I use BB to mitigate the ongoing pressure while the plants flower?
    To be clearer; is it a more passive process that eliminates only the individuals that have fed off your plant’s sap? Or does it deter in some form also?
    Of course inoculating the soil as early on as I can as the means of application and with prevention in mind primarily.
    Thanks in advance anyone.

      This is called an augmentative bio insecticide. Which means you need to spray it constantly according to the recommend dose to keep a concentration of fungal spores and double the concentration when you see sign of an outbreak. The spores work on contact so I guess it can't deter pests. Also it'll only work 5-7 days after spraying that's why you should spray in advance of the season. BB might infect pollinators but it's not a significant risk because you should spray it at late afternoon or at night while bees are active in the day.

    Honestly you just need to do a fungus gnats episode. Every since getting into the living soil/all organic I’ve fought with them. I’m using a combo of diatomaceous earth and mosquito bits now. Is this the secret sauce or?

      When I've started new beds or pots this happens, but as you add beneficials, worms, etc. they go away. It might take a couple of cycles though.

      i said F it and just put mosquitto netting over the soil. Use a tie wrap to loosely tie it to the stem and a giant rubber band to attach to the outside of the pot/container... It's really the only way to go all year without them AND have the liberty of doing what you want with the soil.

    So are you Choosing not to call it a pesticide for regulatory reasons or is this strain just not as specialized at attacking bugs/mites??

    • @deanthomas9979

      just for regulatory reasons. its the best on the market

    • @dertythegrower
      @dertythegrower 2 года назад +3

      its specialized for that, you are not supposed to use predator mites and IPM.. pick one. only essential oils can be semi-safe for predator mites imho... ottherwise most IPM has a bacteria or fungi that ruins pests. I would use this, pfr97 and met52, just those 3, with bacillus blends (amylolquefaciens for sure) and youre set. Otherwise use the mite packs, dont use both.. i mean one is meant as a natural pesiticide/IPM spray
