- Back with the first toolsday of 2022. I hope to do more of these if you are all interested in more toolsday content. Thankfully Dewalt has gotten me off my butt by sponsoring today's video and giving me something good to talk about. The Dewalt PowerStack Battery is now available hopefully thru today's video you can have more information to decide if they are right for you.
Here is my take in a nutshell. Also, this is my opinion, they are definitely smaller, lighter, and you hear and feel the power difference. Longevity and whether or not they will last twice as long as other 20v is to be determined, but if they do, it's a no brainer. Who doesn't want smaller, lighter, and more powerful batteries for your daily use power tools.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments. If investing in more batteries for your DeWalt tools, will you give these a try?

Knocking on door to 1,000,000. Surprised it has taken this long. You produce some of the best content on this platform!
Wow thansn
I am fully impressed! It’s just a complete ruclips.net/user/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 plan with the best resources and step by step instructions . These shed plans are so satisfying as if the sheds build themselves on their own. Worthy work Ryan!
I'm into the DeWalt battery universe. so I love the idea that the tech will be innovating without ditching the tools and connections like they did from 18v to 20v
That's why I like the flexvolt 60v + 20v combo. It covers everything and I can use larger flexvolt batteries on my tools when I need them. The main innovation I want are cheaper batteries.
Glad toolsday is back!
Cordless nailers please!
Keep them coming!
thanks for sharing Kyle and happy new years 2022, yes we have missed toolsday happy to see it back. next some makita tools 40v...
Will be adding these bad boys to my Dewalt XR collection. Thank you Kyle. You should be way over 1m subs with the content you produce. Best for 2022.
I'm sold! After going through so many older Milwaukee batteries and their many generations, I gave Rigid a try, in large part for the lifetime warranty and replacement on the batteries. I've only just discovered that while the tools are fine, the batteries are average. This looks like it's worth trying for my next serious tool purchase, Kyle - thanks!
Good to see the Toolsday video again. Great coverage and info on the new DeWalt batteries.
Thanks for this video Kyle. 👍😁
Good review and I'm sticking with Milwaukee. That circular saw demonstration spoke volumes about the new Dewalt power stack.
Pretty hard to argue with that isn’t it.
On circ saws I wanna try out the hvh skillsaw
Good info I think some of the biggest tool innovations will come from improved battery tech such as this and others. Great to see.
I used to use Dewalt but switched to Ridgid for the warranty. I do miss Dewalt still though. I would try them again. Good video!
Junk
I was just thinking about Toolsday a couple days ago and realized I hadn’t seen one in a while….. thanks my dude!!!
glad you done this video! I could definitely hear and see the difference when you ripped with the saw! I have to use a 60 volt 9 amp hour battery to get that kind of drive out of my cordless circular saw.
I'm also curious about the flex tools! You done a tools day on them some time back, but you haven't shared any more feedback since to say how you like or dislike them!
Thanks for the video! I personally have a lot of Dewalt tools, so this was big for me!
Nice review Kyle. Nice innovation by DeWalt, but I just converted everything to Milwaukee. Not.going to convert to something else any time soon. Thanks for taking the time to do a tool day video.
This will be perfect for overhead applications, for my impact, router, drywall cutting and screw gun, planer, compact blower, ultra compact hammer drill when I use it on extension ladder installing shutters or on tool belt.
Long time viewer
First time commenter ( is that a word 🤔)
Love your videos, always give me solid, honest advice on my tool choices 👍👌
Thanks a lot.
A video on your Midwest snips, which ones to use when and why. Thanks for your videos and for sharing your experience 👍✌
Cool! I’ve been looking forward to the release of them.
Dang it those batteries are awesome, thanks brother for the info
THANKS FOR THIS REVIEW !!!!
Grate video thx!! Question what do you do with your old rundown dewalt tools and batteries?
Love the tools day! Talk about your take on the Martinez/atlas tool bags!
Thank you for that review video kyle. To me the power stack battery seemed better and quicker. Over all thank you very much for all your videos I enjoy watching them all my favorite video was the camp build video that was a huge camp. Keep up the great work.
Seems like a higher amp discharge battery. Looking forward to seeing some bigger versions of those.
Love the toolsday videos any and all tools are good for upcoming videos your choice is good
Great Video! You can definitely see the difference.
I've never had an issue with the regular 20v. My driver / drills last plenty long. They work fast enough to get any job done too. (I'm not in a race and don't try to screw my fingers to my work) However I tried 20v with a circular saw and brought the saw back. Was useless as it's too weak. Although the new one was stronger in the circular saw it still didn't impress me ... I'll stick with my corded Hitachi... it's been a workhorse. Thanks for the video as I've been wondering about the new battery. Now I know! Good information Kyle
Curious to see your thoughts on jig saws. I don’t see you using them on videos much but I’m pretty sure you have a few. That new battery looks great
Would love to know your opinion on a pneumatic nailer & a battery driven nailer. Are the battery packs just good for brads? Love the info will have to update to DeWalt!
This is perfect timing! My current dewalt batteries are pooched and I've been looking to replace them
great review
Pretty Cool I have to check it out
Will they also make it in the bigger amp hour batteries like 4 or 5 amp hour?
You should also review the big boy batteries that Dewalt has to offer. Works extremely well with skill saws. As a framer we only go through 2 batteries a day total. 1 for each saw. They're incredible.
Man the difference is night and day on the skilsaw! Hope they're available in Europe
Take a look at the new Hilti platform( Narron, or something like that) and all their new tools coming out !
Just might be a game changer , especially with the automatically uploaded charging info every time you charge the battery. Pretty cool.
Cool video. I wish it came out a few weeks ago before i bought a pack of the old style batteries. Oh well.
Project Farm has the scoop on these batteries, you're welcome.
Pouch cells are capable of putting out many more amps than the 18650's that are normally used in power tool battery packs. The higher amps being delivered to the motor is why it doesn't stall when you push it through harder.
I'd have to say I think on top of a good, durable long lasting battery technology... Should be ever increasingly efficient operating tools.
I love your work! Can you explain your feel for the difference between the new Dewalt 20 V Powerstack battery and the Dewalt FlexVolt 60 V Max batteries? Is the 60 V older technology? How about the difference between the tools they run?
You can definitely hear a difference between the two. The PowerStack clearly has a higher power density, vs the older battery’s slight energy density advantage.
I like tools day. It would be interesting if you could have a DeWalt guru explain (in person or remote) what is going on with the battery and how the new kind of battery will actually affect the tools in the long run.
Would you take the powerstack over the flexvolt battery for the circular saw? if so why?
As I understand. The flat packs discharge at higher rate than the cells. I've used flat packs for years in r/c planes and helicopters.
Smaller battery is always handy, especially with my 16 hour days! Power stack in the impact sounded like it didn't have to work as hard... Like it knocked less...
Project Farm had a review/test with that vs the regular and 5ah.
I watch that one and the new battery was keeping up with the 5ah battery. The price is the killer for me at 115.00 I hope it can be recharge more that the standard for that price but nothing was covered on the recharging cycle.
Yeah. These pretty much compare to the 5ah battery, but at double the price. I think I'll hold off on these.
The amp hours is a capacity question. Its how much 'power' is in the battery. If the battery is 'more powerful' at the same voltage, then the amperage is higher. If the amperage is higher, then the battery is going to die faster. There is no magic, 2amp-hours is a specific amount of power.
im no electrical engineer, but there is more to it than just that...I wish I understood more, but the way it talks to the tools, utilizes the power, stays cooler, all equate to better statistics
Pouch cells have less internal resistance aka less voltage sag and will also allow more amps to pass. So when bogged down it will drain faster, but it will run more efficiently overall as well.
@@RRBuildings I think he's right on actually. It really is that simple. The new tech will deliver power faster and more efficiently but for a shorter period. Another channel here on RUclips actually tested it and showed exactly that a few days ago in a more "by the numbers" test than yours. I don't think anyone is playing down the innovation here (and I'm not trying to play down your impressions of it either.) It'll have some powerful applications where it'll excel and others where it won't. DeWalt has a winner here for a lot of people - just wish it didn't cost twice as much. 😁
Hello from the great state of Michigan
sweet, only thing I'm wondering is are the power stack battery's better than flex volt or not ?
Maybe someone can answer my question, also are they available across in the UK?
Is that the regular 6 1/2 lefty skill saw, I am going to purchase one and I want to justify paying the extra for the xr version with the rafter hook which is a must, might just get a aftermarket rafter hook for the regular saw which is cheaper
Looks like it uses the same charger as the older batteries. That's a good thing, seeing as I've invested in their quad fast chargers.
Figures I have 12 dewalt batteries from 3 to 6 ah.. The bigger amp hour batteries are huge and heavy so hopefully these work out.
Oh..lI just got an email about these PowerStack batteries...will have to try them out.
Any difference in using/working in the cold?
Maximizing the power in the available space is great. The tradeoff is manufacturing cost.
Simple: Power density refers to how much power the battery can discharge at once. Energy density is how much the battery can store.
The PowerStack has the ability to discharge more of the its stored power.
I’ve always loved Dewalt, but recently my framing nailer, drill, and impact have taken a 💩 after 8 months.
I have mostly dewalt tools. I like Ryobi speaker system though and some of their outdoor tools but as far as power tools I like dewalt. Milwaukee is nice though you get a little more power and the pack out is nicer with Milwaukee it has way more options but I like it all to match so I went with the new toughsystem from dewalt.
Hey Kyle don't know if you've gotten your hands on them yet, but would like to see a Toolsday about the gen 2 Milwaukee 15 and 16 gauge nailers.
Been thinking about upgrading to a new drill and impact, my Makitas are 12v nimh. They didn't even make a full size circular saw back when these were new. I think Dewalt might be something to consider know.
The Milwaukee 12v line is actually really nice I would give them a look
Still not available in Australia. Spoke to DeWalt here they didn't seem to know when they are coming. Wouldn't mind trying them I have a lot of DeWalt.
Hey nice video man honestly I didn't even watch it LOL I do subscribe to your channel so I have a question I'm down in LaSalle County Illinois probably 45 minutes or an hour from you who's the architect or architect firm you use for blueprints for pole buildings? Preferably someone with background in LaSalle County
Wow. The circular saw really showed the difference.
Would love to see a flexvolt versus powerstack comparison.
If you aren't yet using the yellow chargers with the fans in them, you should. Keeping the batteries cool while charging them will increase the life of the battery significantly.
6:27 its now evident Power Stack is a winner!
Any assessment on the relative price for each?
As a Mac tech I gotta say that iMac power wire, the way it is routed, makes my eye twitch. Maybe attach a small power strip to the underside of that table and plug the iMac into that and the power strip into the socket. Those iMac glass screens are not easy to replace and not cheap.
(Eye twitch, twitch, twitch)
Does it work with existing chargers?
Nice hoodie
can you ask dewalt wen there doin a square guide like festools
What is the price difference between the two you know they are going to charge more for it so would it be worth the difference in price how many lithium batteries could you buy for the price of one of the PowerStack batteries that would be the deciding factors for me
The DeWalt Sawzall still eats batteries pretty quick. Must be the type of motor it uses.
Just finished 3- 6x6 post cuts and cut 8 4x4 posts with a 2amp hour and still had 1 bar
Nature of that type of tool. But, the blades you use, make a huge difference in battery life. Make sure you are using good blades, suitable for the task at hand.
You got my attention.
I’m thinking about switching over to Dewalt tools not too happy with Milwaukee
is there a simple explanation of which batteries can be mixed and matched with others please?
also, project farm did a test of these just this past week and there are big differences in some areas
i've heard...I don't see amazingly huge differences...but from what I have seen, it truly has been positive
I’ve always wondered why you have like 4-5 different brands and battery platforms at the jobsite.
It's probably possible for them to do this to there 12v line as well let more power in those tiny tools, don't that make sense?
What’s the model of that stubby impact?
Not really sure if you would even consider but I’d like to see you review the Walmart line of cordless tools by Hart.
Project Farm has just done a comparison on these vs regular batteries.
I agree most circular saws are good enough.. most impacts are good enough..
The thing that pi$$es me off is the drills have straight up gone to $hit.. im lucky to get 6 months out of Dewalt or Milwaukee
Power is just how fast it provides the energy (watts = VxA). My concern is that they claim less amp-hours of energy and higher power usage, would mean less time to use up the power in the battery pack. If the two packs' specs are true, the old battery will last longer.
You're right about that. Another RUclips channel did a comparison of the new versus old tech a few days ago. His channel is more of a "by the numbers" type review channel. My takeaway from it was more power but they died faster. In one test, the power delivery of the new battery was similar to a 5ah battery but it died faster than even the standard 2ah. Another thing not touched on here is that it's twice the price. With that said, it'll be better in the right situations (like everything, right?). 😁
I've seen you roll dewalt, Milwaukee and makita tools. That's a lot of batteries
Very nice Kyle, since Dewalt sponsored the video did they supply any extras for a give away? I sure could use those new batteries to build my new future building? Keep the tool reviews coming, take care!
A question for you and the group, when would you as a contractor grab the flex volt batteries versus the new or old 20 volt batteries. I would think high powered stuff like the saw you would be better with a flex volt.
Any time I’m using anything where the motor of the tool will be running for a long time and under a heaven work load (circsaw, sawzal, grinder, ect) I’m grabbing a flexvolt. With things like the nailers, impacts, drills, multi tools (smaller stuff) I’m grabbing a 5 ah (and now these new power stacks). I really don’t notice the weight of a flexvolt on a bigger tool, but I will notice the weight of a nine amp hour flex volton a impact or drill
DO A VIDEO ON THE DIFF GRADES OF DEWALT TOOLS, MANY DON'T KNOW THERE IS A DIFF
I LIKE THIS GUY WAY BETTER THAN VCG AND THEIR CHEESIE NAMES AND YELLING
More about Milwaukee but also metabo hpt the new rear handle saw
Seems like new battery is better
I’ll stick with my Milwaukee also
A quick rip like that was kinda wonky but you already know it was just a quickie
Attaboy Kyle keep it guy
Only way you're making a tool faster is by increasing the voltage. Its not magic connect some wires between the tool and batt and use a meter to see what V and A each batt is running.
To be far the Wh comparison is closer, the standard battery is not 40 Wh it's 36 (3.6 V * 5 * 2 Ah). 20v systems are actually 18v systems (3.6*5=18) there are some 3.7v cells, but nobody uses them and LiFePO4 are 3.2 V but not used in tool batteries AFAIK.
Pouch cells have bigger "tabs" giving less resistance, tesla's 4680 cells being the exception for cylindrical cell. The square form factor for pouch over cylindrical cells allow for a denser form factor, think cask wine over bottled wine. The downsides also being the same cylindrical cells are strong pouch cells have a tendency to swell (that causes a lot of problems) and need strong external casing to counter this.
What Charger does it use?
so the old NiCad batteries would fade out as they ran out of juice. the Li ion batteries just stop out of the blue. how do these new batteries behave in that regard?
Seems like the stacker battery maintains its voltage better than the lithium so voltage drop is a lot less.
Too bad we can’t get them in the UK yet! As an American that brought all my tools with me I miss the US selection from Dewalt!
Cool
The only thing I hate about battery operated tools is the price of the battery. If they could lower the price, I'd be much happier.
