How to Propagate Peperomia: 2 Easy Methods
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 июл 2024
- The humble peperomia plant is easy to grow and even easier to propagate! In this peperomia care video we'll walk through how to propagate peperomia from start to finish, using two methods: stem-tip cuttings and leaf-petiole cuttings.
If you want fast success and easy rooting, go with a stem tip cutting. This method works for all varieties: peperomia obtusifolia, peperomia prostrata, peperomia caperata, etc. It's an easy way to buy one plant and multiply it!

I freaking loved this. Not only did you show how to propagate it but you also showed the after math which a lot of channels don't take the time to do.
Can you make an update on these plants? I'm especially curious about what happened to those leaf cuttings!
Same. I'd like to know if you can make a new plant from the leaf.
Yes! Update please!😊
I tried peperomia propagation with just leaf cuttings and new plant growth is definitely possible! It take a little while though, but it works!
Leaf cuttings will definitely produce new growths. But you gonna have to wait in like forever, like 3-4 months forever to see new growth coming from each cutting 🤣 When I first started doing Peperomia propagation using leaf cutting I just don’t have the patience. But now I have to make sure that I’m propagating at least a hundred leaves of different Peperomia just so it’ll worth it when they all showing growths, again in 3-4 months. But I gotta say, there are Peperomias (like rubella, albovittata) that can produce new growth in a month sometimes less than a month using leaf cuttings.
Very good vidéo. And it 's really interesting. You're so good in your explanation. I'am definitely a fan
Can we propagate you?!?!
The world definitely needs more of you!
Fantastic video.
Thanks for all the tips and advice.
Keep up the great work.
If only!
I know, right? He's freaking adorable!
Adorable and intelligent! Love all the info!!
srsly, how can I find me a man like this?
I dunno whether it's the cap, or apron, or the combination of cap & apron & plants but 🤩Plant Daddy🤩
The leaves do make new growth! I did water propagation in a little cup, with only the end inserted. I changed the water every few days until it had nice roots and then I planted it into some soil. It took a good while for me, but I had some extenuating circumstances that kept it from getting a proper home. Once I got a light for it, I began seeing growth and ever since it has just taken off with sprouting new growth around it. By far, the coolest thing ever!
Hi! I’ve propagated Peperomia argyreia (Watermelon Peperomia) and Peperomia caperata ‘Brasilia’ from leaf cuttings. Just put the leaves with the petioles into pottingsoil and water it in, keep moist. The result was cute babyplants within two months. 🌱
Good to hear these results, thank you!
I like how you include the follow up in the same video. Thanks for the info.
I would be intrested to see a comparison of leca/hidroton, your EZ clone and simple water propagating.
Good idea!
Leaf cuttings with petiole will grow new leaves I have tried before.
Glad to hear this!
My original peperomia looked like a leaf was half in the soil, with a system coming out with it's own leaf. I thought it was curious, but since then it's grown into a huge plant that needs to be trimmed! Probably was a leaf cutting
Epic Gardening can we get an update on your leaf petiole prop? :)
I wish I could share a picture of what my plant looks like. Right now it has 4 little leaves cuz it’s still a baby. The leaf I used to propagate it with fell off but its babies are still alive.
The mother plant where I got the leaf from got too tall so I had to cut the stems and reroot them in soil.
Hi new here. Am so glad and grateful to watch your video as I just purchased a couple of bunch of peperomia by mistake. I came to youtube to find out it's name as D salesman doesn't know it's plant name. Thanks for RUclips helped me a lot. And thanks to your video as well
I found that both stem cuttings and leaf cuttings worked perfectly for my peperomia obtusifolia variegata. The leaf cuttings created new leaves even faster. :)
Hi there! I’m keen to know where the new shoots appear from leaf cuttings. From stem cuttings you can easily see new shoot growth but from leaf cuttings it’s hard to tell how the growth would form.
@@lahvaniyadhamodaran3970 I water propagated from a leaf cutting (no node) and I have about 9-10 baby leaves that are just growing from the bottom
I started with one horrible one now I have ten amazingly health ones. This video was so in depth it's so easy to follow. Great vid tysm😊
This was super helpful. I learn from watching and like how you showed all the steps from start to finish. Thank you!
Please, more propagation videos :)
i agree
I'm on it!
I love the propagation videos. Keep them coming for sure! Who doesn't love creating new plants 😁
Peperomias root very quickly. When I was in high school, I rooted some in our greenhouse. we took the cuttings on Friday and Monday morning they were rooted.
Thank you so much for your beginning to end of propagating a plant. Wasn't sure how to do mine & there you were. Great videos!
Yes, yes, yes!!!!
Propagation videos are awesome!!!
Thank you for sharring them. Love the content and how in detailed you explain these.
Keep up the good work
God bless you
Appreciate you
I learned something new today. Now I know how to take care of my Peperomia 👍Thanks for the video❤️
I love all your videos, When I have questions about anything concerning plants, I search for your RUclips channel
I love the propagation videos 😍 thank you so much!!
😲 thank you for the demo~ its so cool to know you can do this!
I have a peperomia obtusifolia that was given to me in 2003 and it only had 3 leaves on it as it was a cutting. It’s still alive and just HUGE. We have it in a terra cotta pot and we stake the branches to grow up and use ties to keep it upright. We have made 3 other plants from it with cuttings. It’s a beautiful, easy, resilient plant!
That's amazing! Glad you've been able to care for it and make new ones
This was amazingly helpful! Thank you!!
This was awesome, so glad I found this video. Warmth, gratitude & blessings! 🙋♀️💜
Super informative video! thank you so much. Can't wait to try this with my raindrop peperomia :)
Can’t wait to try propagating my obtusifolia!! I’ve been waiting for it to trail but it just continues to grow upward
i dont think that they trail. mine i had for years and it only grows sideways or upwards and I have two of them lol
They're not much of a trailing plant, so feel free to propagate!
gotta love that tag name - surprised they let you have one that long! lol@@buttcheeksguy
@@Botanibabies haha thank you!! back in the days they used to allow long names, i just havent changed mine since :p
Thank you for the great video! I'm new to house plants and peperomia is my thriving plant at the moment. I'm excited to try propagating it, thank you for your help!
This was very helpful! Thank you! I'm about to go and do it!
Very clear demonstration, and very clear speech!
I love your videos, they’re so informative and easy to follow, thank you
Thank you for subscribing!
I LOVE propagation videos and learning different methods!!
More coming!
Yes, please, more propagation. Love that system you use!
Me too...huge fan!
Thank you for showing the cutting so up close. I'm nervous to cut my peperomia so I want to make sure I do it the best I can.
I never knew I needed this propagation apparatus (sounds like a band) as bad as I do now. Good, informative video for this plant hoarder.
Great job! Very informative. Thank you! You answered all my questions!
I love you dude you’re so easy to follow along !!!!!
I loved this video.Very helpful. More please 💕
Looks great!! Getting ready to do this.
Love these videos! Thank you for your hard work!
Thanks Chelsea!
AWESOME video! You make it look easy.
I always love a good propagation video!!!
I have a lovely full plant and while searching to identify it came across this video n glad I did, learnt a lot, thankyou..
Such a cool video. Wanted to find out about how to propagate Pepromias and found your video! Definitely a must watch! Didn't know you liked houseplants too, Kevin!
Yes leaf tip propagation is possible and I get good results using this method. It takes much longer than standard stem method but it is very gratifying.
Thanks for sharing your vedio awesome tips and ideas on Propagation new subscribers watching from California
I think I'm in love, ha ha! Great videos. I have a struggling peperomia scandens that looks terrible. Trying to bring her back but not sure what she wants.
nicely put together video, kevin. yes, more like this, please. thanks, cp.
Will do!
Super helpful video!
I love your videos really enjoyed as I learned a lot God bless
Always good information in your videos. I have a peperomia hope and I'm looking to fill it out a bit. Thanks!
Very concise explanation 👌
Great video!!
I just got one a leaf fell off so i came to check your video :) agreyah to be precise
Just found your channel. Love it! ☺
Awesome channel, sort of like one stop shopping for plant care and knowledge. Keep up the good works and we'll keep up the likes!!!
Appreciate you!
Can you propagate a raindrop peperomia polybotrya
You are the man! I enjoyed this video!!
Thank you Patricia!
Thanks man!
Very nice And Help Full Video
Nice propagation👌👌
Thanks Manju!
The propagation videos are very helpful. Love experimenting with cuttings. Big fan of my various types of peperomia. Video Suggestions: Most types of ferns and several begonias (Rex etc.) are the plants that kick my butt, despite growing surrounded by lots of plants and aquariums contributing humidity. More help with those would be great.
Fantastic, I'll add those to the list!
I would also like to see an update on the leaf cuttings to see what it grew because my leag cuttings are rooting and almost ready to plant.
Very nice to watch. Subscribed. WOW Australia
Hi! Great video. Thanks for sharing your tips! I love my peperomia plant, so this was helpful to give me confidence in trimming back my plant. I do have one question. Did it sprout new growth where you cut on the "mother" plant?
I love propagation videos
Now this... is epic gardening
You're so well-spoken and the production quality on your videos is fantastic! I have a Red Ripple Peperomia which seems to grow quite a bit differently than the one in this video - only one leaf per stem. What's the best way to propagate my plant?
Thank you for explaining so simply :) i have a wild peperomia growing too crazy and she needs a major haircut :)
Thanks for the great tutorial,
Would love to see some kalanchoe (widow's thrill) propagation video.
Love your video's propagate satin pothos
My mom just got one of these...which means it’s time for me to steal a leaf or two haha
thats exactly why im here too😭😂
I honestly never thought of propagating my peperomia but 2 of the leaves fell off and when I was moving the pot I noticed they were laying in the soil facing up with roots growing upwards lol so it's really that easy!
Merci !👍💚
Video very good
I could watch you talk all day!
I’ve leaf propagated many peoeromias. It’s crazy how a whole new plant grows from a leaf.
It's been a very long time now, did your leaf cutting propagations grow into whole plants? Of just leaves with roots? Thanks!
Hello! I have learned so much from you! Thank you! How are your propagated leaf cuttings looking?
Thanks for the info! The main thing I learned was that I can plant a start deeper than where the roots are emerging. I was never sure about that. I would plant shallow and have trouble getting the plant to be sturdy in the soil 😂
Would love more propagation videos 😁
They're coming!
I am propagating a peperomia rosso by leaf cuttings and they DO create new growth :)
The leaves do produce new growth but it takes months. If your a hobbyist like me youll enjoy the wait and the satisfaction is always greater.🤗 For i am the vine and you are the branches 🙏🏻💙🙏🏿
I've seen so many peperomia propagating guides. I have tried all the methods with several different kinds of peperomia plants. All have failed so far. It's quite disheartening, especially seeing everyone say it's super easy xD Might have to try until I succeed.
I truly enjoy your propagating videos. Hope we get more in the future.
If you want guaranteed success, use a stem tip cutting
@@epicgardening Thank you. I actually have several of them now. Fingers crossed that they root. :)
Not sure if I missed it, but how long did it end up taking for the leaf cutting to root? My peperomia got knocked over and lost a few leaves, so I'm trying propagating for the first time! Really hoping it works!
I love propagating videos, so for me the more the better!
I'm also curious to know what changes you see in the parent plan. Do you get a new flux of growth, does the stem harvested show signs of branching out, do you get new growth from the base?
My obtusifolia is also growing like your mother plant, along a straight line. I do want to trim it back and possibly add the rooted cuttings back to the pot to give a more rounded look... Might wait for early spring though, not much growth happening right now 😕
New growth will typically come out of the node right below the node you cut, which is happening to all of the plants that I took cuttings of in this video!
Hi love the video! Keep em coming! 👍🏼 I was wondering what was is that greenish “powdering” looking substance on the first propagation method pot (9:30), I notice it on a few plants I bought recently... is it some sort of fertilizer?
Love propagation videos, can you do a variety of philodendron please
Hey! My peperomia has some pretty bad rust fungus (bought it like that). Will the stems propagate if I take off the infected leaves?
Hi , thank you for youe video , my pepromia plant turned brown and died, tried to save a leaf so i cut it and put it in water , i noticed its getting brown too. Is the reason too much water or my plant it just sick?
I want to try this with my obtusifolia - especially since it's losing it's variegation, despite being in an east window. I noticed yours was as well. I'm hoping that new growth on a cutting will have the deep cream variegation that the original plant used to have.
Yeah, that was part of my hope as well...seems to be working so far!
Your stem cutting will probably have the variegation like the mother plant. Leaf cuttings (which take much longer to root) might revert to solid green.
@@carolfisch9750 Fingers crossed :-)
Thank you! It’s funny that you said “layman’s botanical knowledge.” You’re so knowledgeable, I thought you’re actually a botanist.
Hi kevin! Have you got a result regarding the leaf cutting propagation? I have successfully rooted my obstufolia variegated and as for other peperomia I was expecting it to create little babies.. (like in the other peperomia i propagated ) I have potted her up now (a month) she looks healthy and roots are growing steadily but no new growth .. Please let me know
When I propagate my peperomia, I just put a leaf with the entire petiole into water, wait for roots and baby plants and then plant in soil. And, yes, it takes a long, long time. I've only had one failure so far out of about six or so. Off topic question now - how do I remove hard water stains from leaves? Some of the garden centers in my area drench the entire plant from top to bottom and when it dries, it leaves ugly white marks.
Yeah, I notice that too. I honestly just wipe them with water!
@@epicgardening I will continue scrubbing then! No, just kidding, it's a Calathea makoyana. I will be nice 🙂 Thanks for your reply
Do you put the whole leaf into water or did you mean just the end? Thank you x
Kinda late. But I dilute about 2 spoons of white vinegar in a cup of water and spray that to the leaves. Then just wipe them with a cloth and it's easier to clean than by just using water.
Would you please do a video on dumb cane Propagating or rehabilitating. I have a dumb came that I can repot it will do great for a month or so then the leaves start to die in the green leaves curl it look weird. Love your videos even though I live in north eastern Ohio a lot of your Tips work amazing.
Will do, I have one I brought back
Pepperomia happy bean and also the pepp piccolo. Mine are both dropping leaves.its November and 20 Celsius in my home so I'd like to know how to propagate these two plants as I love them both and want to have more in case I lose them. Love your vids.
I absolutely love peperomia I recently took a leaf just the leaf I did not cute it in half I just put the bottom of the leaf in soil and it did grow a brand new growth with leaves and everything I wish I knew how I could upload a picture to you to show you that it can be done like that
Can staking be a solution for keeping the stems growing straight? My plant is also getting a little wild!
Thanks for this video! Im a new subscriber! I just have a question, bec im planning to propagate my peperomia...can i plant my peperomia in the same pot as my snake plant?
I think I need one of these propagating set ups. So cool. Can you share what it is called?
Any information on senecio ballyi propagating? I have this very leggy plant with the most beautiful leaves but I have found little information on it anywhere. Took me over a year to figure out what it was by contacting the grower.
Thank you! This is so helpful. I have a peperomia threatening to take over an entire room (it's probably 65 lbs. at this point) so it's time to trim and build a family!
Oh my stars, that must be amazing! I’d love to see that plant!
@@heathertroynak9041 I wish I could post a photo to show you! If you want to see it, feel free to find me on Facebook or Instagram and I'll send a visual :)
@@arlosanimalwonders7161 you can always upload it to RUclips.
thank you, it was useful.
I also tried putting the stem in the soil from the beginning and YES, it started getting roots.
