- High build primer time, body work is finished or is it? Time to put an even coat of polyester primer on the old bird and hopefully the last session of block sanding before final paint.

That looks like it works great, I could tell that gun was maxed out trying to lay that stuff on!! We need to get you a primer gun!!!
I actually just ordered one before I did this video. And it showed up the next day 🤷♂️ next time i suppose
Glad to see a new video today
I put it up early, at FirebirdFest right now. Really nice turnout.
I do car restoration for a living. I've delt with that primer and I'd recommend using Evercoat 4:1. The rust defender is really old technology, doesn't sand as good, and seen adhesion problems with it.
Interesting, good to know.

You have the technique down but I'd also recommend trying a flexible plastic sanding block. It gives a flatter surface and cuts much faster. We do are finish filler work with 80 grit, polyester prime, block with 100 grit.
Isnt the reason why you use rust defender because its water /solvent resistant though compared to most other polyester primers?
Much gooder Jon!
Thanks for the lesson on primer. Can’t wait to see it painted.
You and me both!!
Looking great Jon! Great to see it this far along, and the journey you've taken us on.
I am excited to see the finished product!
Nice work Jon !
I appreciate seeing your work and progress to the finish.
You and me both. I so want to see this car back in it’s autumn bronze skin
I reall enjoy your channel Sir!! Firebirds all gens are close to my heart since my first car was a 1969 Firebird bought used in the 80's high-school..miss that car! This restoration is coming out great and I really like your 69 white convertible would be my pick if I had to choose another Firebird!
I do have a special place for all the birds, my favorite of course is the 1969. Thank you for checking us out!
Looking fantastic!!!!
Thanks, it covered good and ready for block party 2.0

Very welcome. You should be able to order a t-shirt from the link on the video if you look just below of watching on a tablet or phone it should show up. Or if you go to the video description it has a link to my store as well. Many colors and choices. Thanks for watching! I also plan to make a trip to phoenix again
Here soon to play cars with Brian
Great video as always . Do You have a video on how you strip the car of paint ? Don't believe I've come across that video yet .
Really look forward to any more tutorial and informative videos , and enjoy the shirt ,thank you .
Thanks for picking up a shirt. I had this car dustless blasted. There is a video on that process on here. In the future I will just do normal media blasting.
I host block parties too, but no one ever shows up😢. Have you heard of Linear Blocking Tools? I bought their starter set and have used it to do a hood on a 73 C20. Seems to get it really flat. Can't wait to try it on my 67 Cougar! Thanks again for your videos!
I have been looking at those linear blocks,
Had a few other people recommend them as well. Might get one and see what it’s all about.
I don't know if you have a Sherwin Williams refinish store locally but you can get a HOK poly fil primer from them that works very well and I pay $150 a gallon for it
Yes I do have a Sherwin Williams supplier. The base coat for this car I used them and very happy with it.
👍👍👍
Thank you!
😎
👍
Maybe I missed it in an earlier video, but is that a Camaro rear spoiler? Where did you purchase it?
Ive never used that brand of high build primer. Does it compare to Evercoat Slick Sand?
I purchased the spoiler from eBay. It’s your typical fiberglass/plastic body part needs a lot of block work before painting to get it looking good.
I haven’t used the evercoat slick sand yet to give a fair comparison
Are you using a LVLP gun and how big is your air compressor?
I use a HVLP gun with a 2.0 tip for the high build primer. My compressor is A 60 gallon two cylinder single stage seems to work good for me.
What’s the difference between polyester primer and urethane primer?
From what I have experienced the urethane primer shrinks over time and will show sand marks at a later date. The polyester hasn’t done that yet. Maybe it was just the brand.
G'day mate.. polyester primer is a misleading name..its not any sort of primer it's simply a sprayable glazing filler for refining. Can't be directly painted on or wet sanded.. urethane primer is undercoat designed to give repairs a uniform surface and base for colour.
@@mickspence2885 might be true I don’t know. but I don’t wet sand and I use an epoxy sealer coat over everything so I should be fine
Tak jsi ukázal, že ti to moc nejde!
👍
Ain’t you worried about over spray on the car outside your garage. When spraying primer
Am I no, does it get on the cars yes.
Be careful with how you use that and how thick you apply it because I've had it come back and haunt me you should really get as much done with a polyester filler
I agree, this primer or any high build is only for minor imperfections not filling in dents.
@@VinylVillageGarage don't get me wrong poly fil primer can be your if used right I spray the house of kolor poly fil primer over complete cars to level out and put a slight build on the car and that house of kolor is way cheaper than rust defender and does the same thing
@@rongamble9884 I am all about saving money as long as quality doesn’t suffer. I like house of kolor plus I have a local supplier I can get it from
@@VinylVillageGarage well I don't know if you know it but house of kolor is owned by Sherwin williams refinish now the sp1600 my paint rep said is the same as evercoat poly fil just cheaper
@@rongamble9884 nope didnt know that but now I do!
