Turn the activator/ catalyst can sideways when pouring and it won't splash, the 1×4' and 1×5" rollers work much better for auto applications. If you mix too much next time put the paint in the refrigerator and it want flash until you get to use it in 30 to 55 minutes. But it's looking good👌
great vid! i have a sji boat & decided to simply buy the normal 2k primer and also 2k spray bog and just roll it. Well it worked well. Ya dont need eastwood, its all the same! Just roll it.
Great Job Bryan! Man it looks Great! I've always wanted a steel cowl induction hood for my 70 Nova! Makes the car have a bit extra attitude! 🤘 Love It!
Hey thanks Jason, I appreciate it brother. I aint sure why the previous owner choose to bolt it on car and not treat it. But we got it straightened out now.
BW if you take a screw driver on the side of the can in the edge of lip where you can see the directions and the lid will push the paint back into the can punch like 4 holes good luck
Hey BW. Good video. FYI, when I pore from a new can of solvent, i tip it with the spout up instead of down. That allows the air to enter the can and prevent the glug, glug and avoiding a mess. That is just how i do it. I like to skoop from the big can as well. I hate a mess. Plus the wasted product. Thanks for sharing Brother.🍁🍁👍👍
I know this is two years old, but when you buy the rollers at a paint store, ask them what they'd charge to shake your paint can. Even with a small purchase, they'd probably do it for free...... Man you got that hood so clean I'm impressed. Its not easy to get the pitts that clean! Now with the epoxy primer on there the hood is safe. That stuff goes on good and will help protect the hood till you do the final body work! Nice Job BW and no you don't want any over spray on that badass 55 Gasser! Talk to you later buddy!✌️
It was a chore getting the pitts cleaned out for sure, but we got it done. I am happy with the method. It makes sense for us back yard guys who don't have paint booths or big shops.
Good thing you tried it. I've been thinking about getting some of that stuff. Back in the day I used a fine brush to put regular primer on a car. Hood looks great brother 😎👍👍
Looks good in certain situations it's the way to go rolling it on like what your doing. Spraying will be a lot faster more uniform waist a lot less material. I have a video on my other channel that shows how to use zip lock bags as a liner in a gravity feed gun. Makes cleanup super quick and your able to spray upside down.
I'll have to check that out., I sprayed my 55 but only have enough room for panels for other car at the moment, don't want over spray, so this method worked well for me this time.
Thanks Kevin, was my first time using roll on primer. It had great adhesive properties and flow out nice. I did get a few fuzzy Settle in over night on 3rd coat. No biggie, one swipe with a block they will be gone. Just gonna leave it till I am ready to apply high build primer which I will also roll on when final body work time comes.
I was hoping You'd make a little test piece, to check how it will stick. And how long the drying time is and so. But this looks very nice. i didn't even know You could roll that stuff on, so thanks for showing us how! 🤩👍
I just went for it, probably would have been good to test it, but this brand is designed to roll on/ brush on. Thanks for watching and for the good feedback
Lookin good Bryan.....Never thought of roll on primer!!! Guess has it's pros n cons.....like you said less over spray n mess!!! Only downfall I see is wasting product if you mix more than you need for that panel!!! Guess you'll figure amount as you go 🙂🙂🙂🙂
HEY BW ,,great video,, One word of Pouring In Cat or Thinner from a Gallon can ,,With a Full can turn can & pour over the top ,,It won't glug on U and just pour out smoothly,,due to air able to come into can & let liquid out evenly ,,Good luck on your Project
That looks great, BW. It is at least now protected from the elements. Thanks for the update, and have a great week ✌️ 👋 P.S. what I do when pouring , I turn the can so its lid is at top and helps with the splashing. Just a thought for you. And on the gallon can , I used a shield to help with pouring from it. I get them at the paint store . There just plastic that fits right in the grove on the can.
I've seen the plastic pouring things at paint store, didn't have any so I dip, lol. I will try your pour method with the can next time. I appreciate it Sam 🙏
You did a great job prepping the metal, and I can understand rollering 2K hi-build primer since it is a filler and doesn't shrink. (and you can do that) But epoxy? It doesn't fill nor need a thick coat to do its job. Plus, you don't really need to sand it unless it's set for awhile.
I followed directions, they suggested 3 coats. I don't disagree with you, simply not sure. I sprayed DP90 on my 55, but for this , my best option due to space was this roll on method.
@@bwsgarage Yeah, you gotta have that epoxy on there in your situation .I'm familiar with DP90 and the Omni MP170's. Neither seems to be rollerable, with a 1.3 to 1.6 mil thickness per sprayed coat. Maybe Eastwood just wants to sell you a lot of epoxy. Now the MP28, you''re really going to like. You can absolutely put this 2K hi-build on with a roller, it's like liquid body filler. Guide coat and block. Dust your hands and admire your work.
Hood looks good BW. I've been wondering just how good the optiflow really was. Looks nice. Get ya a chemical sprayer u can refill and pressurize for your pre cleaners. Makes that process easier. Cover the tops of your cans. Reducers, cleaners, ect. That way when u do pour out of them u dont get contamination from the top of the can. As always really liked ur video.
2 observations. Wow, that's a short work time for epoxy. Normally epoxy is like many hours. Weird. 2: I like to stir it or shake it then put the lid back on. I poke a small hole with a phillips screwdrive in the lid to pour from. Then I use my HVAC aluminized tape to cover the hole after I wipe it off. Works pretty good.
do you know if this primer can be left outside on the car and that it will resise water or will water weap into the primer and get back to the metal. i guess does the primer need to be sealed with paint before going into the weather. does the primer need to kepted inside until painted. thank you
I was thinking same thing Paul, or soda lol. Still, the previous owner never treated the hood before that, just bolted it on to rot I guess. Fixed up now
I used Sherwin Williams DuraPlate epoxy on the inner fender wells of my Porsche 911SC and it stuck like nothing I've ever seen. Used a roller but then sprayed on the Wurth undercoating and then Grand Prix white over it (with my Atom X22 spraygun).

Any advice or guidance you have will greatly help get this fine machine running again. Thanks BW!
the hood turned out really good, your doing a great job . i noticed an electric heater under your workbench you could have put it under your hood to warm it to dry the primer faster mabe ?
Maby glue a stick to that cap make a ladle out of it. I just bought a 2000 Toyota camry, the hood is almost as bad as this one I will definitely be trying this system for the hood.

I bought the kit last year, I suggest you visit eastwood web site and price out the epoxy roll on primer kit.
So wet paper vinegar, then sandblast,or just media blast once, once ,once.......or drum sand media blast
Vinegar is a acid. I don’t know if it was the cause of your pitting problems. I have seen it cause pitting before.
