Enjoyed the video. Here is some help with the door, trunk, ignition, and glovebox locks. I grew up and worked in my Dad's Chevrolet dealership and having built up a 55 Chevy Convertible in 1971 that had been in a ditch for several years, I knew how to get keys for the car. We had a master set of keys that worked for all GM cars. You usually had to try a lot of them, but once you found one that worked, you could unlock the lock, remove the lock cylinder, get the four digit code from the lock, and use that to cut the correct key. Some people just had us cut a copy from the master and didn;t worry about the correct code. We had four or five rings of master keys. They worked great on all of these cars, but were not longer useful when the steering column locks came about. It has been so long ago, I don't remember, but I think that they worked through 1967. As I remember, the door and ignition are the same and trunk and glovebox are another code. If you can find a dealer that has been in business for a long time, you can probably get them to help you with the master key set. Hope this helps.
I remember as a kid around 1960 I was with my mom in downtown LA, and we had stopped at a place of business to run in and get something that we had ordered, pick it up, and head home. With all the noise and hustle and bustle downtown, (not like it is today though), my mom forgot to turn the car off. It was 3 on the tree, 55 2 door, inline 6 cylinder Chevy and now it was running and the keys inside locked car. We went inside the business, asked to use their phone, looked up in the yellow pages and called a locksmith who showed up in about 15 minutes, gave my mom a ring of probably 50 keys and they both went at the locks from both doors. 5 minutes and we had the car unlocked. You are so correct.
Hopefully you opted NOT TO CUT THROUGH THE DOOR to gain access. It would have been easier to force the window down - clear debris from inside and fumigate for critters and insects, then crawl through window into the cab and dismantle the door panel to actuate the locking mechanism to open both doors.
@@WDDetailing What about if you get in it through the window and kick on the door while someone else is holding /pullling on the outside door handle? What ever breaks was already broken anyway.
The next time you run into this problem simply pop the trunk lock out and enter through the rear seat cavity to pop open the doors...Think fellas think.
Could unlock that car in about five minutes with a wire coathanger these old cars had simple locks put hook at the end then push it past weather strip on door down to lock and hook lock button pull up an inch Presto there would be so many old school guys laughing that you couldn't get into an old Chevy
This was my dream car when I was a kid. HotWheels cars, model kits, posters, everything was '57 Chevy! This baby looks pretty much all there and hopefully she gets some new love and put back on the road.
I remember as a kid, seeing a new one of these, same color with yellow highlites. For some reason, I've never forgotten that car. The 57 was truly a beautiful machine .
Great job cleaning the outside of that ‘57 Chevy. It’s ashamed that it was adorned and cared for most of its life and then just severely neglected. Hopefully it is still solid enough to be brought back by someone who appreciates such a beautiful and iconic car. I mean, it’s a 57 Chevy 2 door Hardtop. One of the best looking cars GM ever produced.
I would have entertained asking a lock smith to pop the locks and had a key cut for it, one alternative is to flood the mechanism by prying the door card slightly and pumping WD40 inside , and the door locks , and spraying the door seam to cover the striker . Had a EH Holden Special which jammed on me in the same way also utilised a old hair dryer to heat and expand at the same time .
Real nice. Hopefully y’all will continue content on what happens next. I’m ready to see more progress and I’m hoping to see it restored and drivable again.
My dad was a Cadillac & Oldsmobile dealer in Michigan (1946-1996)...I recall that you could take the engine number to any GM dealer and get a key "cut" for both the passenger doors and trunk (square key: doors, round key: trunk). Good luck.
Word of advice: if you ever pick something out of a garage, always look around for extra parts. Most people buy new parts for vehicles and don't have time to put them on so they just sit on shelves. It will cost less because most owners will just throw them in the deal just so they don't have extra parts left behind.
True story there. Sold my restored 57' Bel Air with the original and running 283 in the bay along with a machine shop rebuilt and cammed 58' 283, complete carb to pan, with billet and SS add ons, extra doors, trim, original front spindles and brakes, a rebuilt 400 turbo transmission, wheels, wide whites. Everything 57' Chevy went with the deal. $30,000.00 worth of car and parts for 38,500.00, asked 40,000.00. Still regret to this day.
I loved 57 Chevys since I was a little kid. This car is so beautiful and still has great potential. Hopefully you can get the doors open eventually. Great video and amazing work as usual guys. Happy New Year!
My Love has been the 56 Chevy , and after 50 years ( I’m 60) I just Horse traded , for A1956 Chevrolet, 2 Door wagon , handy man wagon , no motor or trans , but here I go
I'd drill out the lock in the trunk, pull off the back seat, remove the do0or panels and cover the lock mechanism with rust remover. Great video, really impressed witht he results!
@@TheCatOfAges I've gone through the trunk to the interior several times over the years. When the seat back is still bolted in, that is when it becomes a problem. The old cars I've owned, usually they have had the seats out and don't bother bolting the rear seat back down and I can just lift it out from inside the trunk.
My very first car, at 17 years old was a nice '57 Chev, which I picked up for $300.00, and drove for several years. It had the 283ci engine and 2 speed auto transmission, of which we eventually pulled out, and fully rebuilt, both the engine & transmission. I live in western Canada, but drove it right down into Mexico on one vacation, then returned, where it needed a new wheel bearing that 'just' allowed us to make it home. I have lots of great memories of that car for sure, which came in 'black' which a ton of chrome, both inside and out! I still own the original (catalogue size) manual that came with that car, with the odd greasy finger print on some pages, from the previous owner. If I remember correctly, these cars came with the 283, 265 or a 6 cylinder engine.

I love watching these transformations. Unfortunately the paint is so far gone on this car, it almost makes it look worse when you polish it because it really highlights all the humidity blisters and other flaws in the paint. Awesome video still. Love my Chevys!
To open a door, grab the partial open window at the top and firmly push it up and down several times to loosen the window regulator, then it should push down. Or use a metal clothes hanger or a firm piece of wire to reach inside the window to grab the door handle. Hook onto the inside door handle and pull up, and the door will open, even if the lock button is down. Nice find!
The lock mechanism was rusted to the striker. They could get into the car, through the window, but they could free up the rusted door lock mechanism. Didn't you watch the entire video
Cause that’s not as cool as making the video longer by taking it off and in a shop and carrying out in trash cans instead of blowing the trash off with a blower in the yard it came from!. Ha! SMH!!
@@TheBudkaiseryeah you’re right. I see kids all over cleaning cars and making them look show room. Sometimes they even do it between lunch and recess…..
unlike a modern car, the door striker/latch mechanism is mounted outside of the door, not inside of it. So Yes, spraying Deep Creep or PB Blaster might have helped. if you got the door panel "off"...you could spray into the door to the rods and clevis's to help get it unlocked. Pulling up on the inside handle while pulling up on the door lock would have been a thing also.
I own a '57 Bel Air. Sport Coupe, red, built 327 with a turbo 350 transmission. Definitely puts a smile on my face seeing this video, great job cleaning it up.

You guys put a lot of work into this even though it had a bunch of rust all over it it looks good I hope that you can find somebody that I'll fully restore it and that you'll track the history of the restoration with pictures and video
A good keymaker could make you a key to the doors. If its doesnt work, try getting in to the trunk, from there you can access the back of the backseat. I think it should be able to remove by lifting it up and out
My very favorite car Chevrolet ever made!! Love, love, love it!!! Maybe you could have gotten one of those old window openers from a cop! Great job guys!!!
Why even bother cleaning those rotten tires? They need to be replaced...whole thing needs a restoration...I washed my truck before disassembly, but I sure didn't detail it...there will be plenty of time for that once she's wearing a fresh coat of paint...this is all overkill on something that needs a full restoration & a new paint job & rechroming...bet that floorboard has some good rust holes in it too from not being stored properly...how long did it take to grow that moss? 30 years...background music is hideous...I'd rather hear the tools going...
PB Blaster! Spray everything rusted. Spray inside door locks. Use sandpaper, wire brush, file. Anything to remove the rust. Spray again. Scrub again. Spray again. Door lock should start to loosen up. Keep working it and eventually it will free up.
You started with a very good car… Yes it was left in a garage which protected it for years Yup the garbage went to crap but it took years.. It was cover with all kinds of stuff… But I did not see corrosion and rust holes .. Saved just in time.. You guys did a wonderful job to make it great… I understand the guy who put it in the garage… It’s his beauty.. hopefully one day he can recover.. You don’t sell your best dog or horse .. Hats off to the first owner and to you for making her great again
I recall as a kid crawling into back seat from the trunk. A small metal vinyl [or fabric barrier] is there. You can unscrew it (then push the back seat forward and punch out the cardboard fabric) for access in many older cars. The separation from trunk when inside the passenger compartment is often an illusion.
First of all: my guesstimation of the moss probably would have grown between 15 to 20 years after the car was parked it all depends on when the whole garage fell down. Second of all: I probably would have drilled out the locks, and after I finished the interior, I would have bought new locks to fix the ones that I drilled a whole through. I hope you fixed the rust on the hood because it didn't look so pretty with a big rusted place on the hood.
I know, it's so frustrating, they're obviously only in it for the clicks. I nearly didn't leave a comment because that's just another "engagement" as far as the algorithm is concerned, but I found myself nodding sadly along with your comment. I'm not letting myself get sucked into watching another one of these vids, they're so unsatisfying.
Looks like this is going to be a fun one. It is a '57, but it is not a Bel Air. It is a series 210, which is the mid-line. Still, it is a sport coupe. The Bel Air was just trim differences, mostly. Good luck with the car! BTW, just shinny into the car via the open window. Raise the door latch handle and kick the snot out of the door, going outward. The door latch handle will unlock the mechanism, Will take persuasion, but should work. Better to wreck an already shot door panel than cut a door! Wet sanding is detailing 101.
Take an aquarium air pump tube and aim for the catch. Set up a Chinese 12V pump and run vinegar over the catch mechanism for...a few days? Look, it works!
eventhough i am not from the land of the free, nor am i a chevy guy ( have an 73 olds tho ) this chevy deserves to be restored ( literally tears of wishing she will be fine )...i hope it will share its chevy thunder to that person who deserves this...
I read many comments suggesting removing the front fenders. I am not sure about 55-57 Chevys, but many front fenders on older GM vehicles i have worked on seem to always have one bolt that cannot be removed at the top and rear of the fender that cannot be removed without having the doors in an open position. Just a thought. A quick glance at a new replacement fender would tell the story before taking things apart.
Oooooman the car looks good 👍!! Had the thought for using the Wet Sand Paper and Stealwool what sizes were they is that car in for wanting but did not take !!!! Striker INCORPORATED
My first car at age 16 was a 1957 BelAir 2-door hardtop. The car in the video is a 210, which is much more rare than a BelAir. BelAirs have gold "Vs" on the trunk lid and hood, gold inserts in the top of the front fenders, BelAir strips in the rear, BelAir script on the rear quarter panels and other upgrades. Look up a 1957 BelAir photo and you will immediately see the differences.
My dad had a turquoise, 2 dr '57 Belair, it had a solid door between side and back windows. It was a "3 on the tree" tranny. 6 cylinder. Had so many problems with oil pressure, needed pil pump and he traded it in for a '63 Biscayne 4 dr, then after that was a '68 Chevy 4 dr
I would have broken the passenger window, remove door panel , taken the door handle assembly apart. Sacrificing the door panel and glass are 2 pieces that are available for replacement. Gotta be done sooner or later.
What i would do is put a sun roof in in either a pop up or electric. This will give the car a convertible feel. While still having a roof. Like the tee top on a trans am I LOVE IT
My thought's exactly ( Hey somebody with a huge heart❤️ let's get this car fully restored ... Nice find!
Sitting for years letting the elements get down inside? The window regulator and latch mechanism are gone
The lock mechanism was rusted to the striker. They could get into the car, through the window, but they could free up the rusted door lock mechanism. Didn't you watch the entire video
Jason's straight up awesome. Really enjoyed having him help you out with this detailing job.
Um clássico voltando aos seus melhores dias, muito legal!
Wow!Grey Chevrolette classic looks like new again! This is one of my favourite cars!Great job guys!
Why don’t you take all the debris off the car outside where you got it???
Cause that’s not as cool as making the video longer by taking it off and in a shop and carrying out in trash cans instead of blowing the trash off with a blower in the yard it came from!. Ha!
SMH!!
Paint is going to be polished anyway I would of used a soft brush with a concentrated soap and scrubbed the car first
Considering even a kid can clean a car, I wouldn’t expect much from grown men that do it for a living 😂
@@TheBudkaiserfeel good? Trying to insult someone to make yourself feel better? Ha ha ha so funny…ha ha ha….quit being ignorant and get a life
@@TheBudkaiseryeah you’re right.
For those lock components idk recommend Seafoam deep creep, it works wonders for getting rusty parts free.
Deep creep is the shit man. Love that stuff.
The window regulator, locks st latches are probably long beyond saving.
I own a '57 Bel Air. Sport Coupe, red, built 327 with a turbo 350 transmission. Definitely puts a smile on my face seeing this video, great job cleaning it up.
Dudes! Super awesome content!! Just a word of advice though from a retired Chief Building Engineer (operations) … when using any big RPM pot tool … put on safety glasses. 🙏 I have seen too many loss time accidents from power tool use in my career! 💙
Always a pleasure watching you all detail cars especially these types of classics ✊🏾🔥
Glad you enjoyed!
You guys put a lot of work into this even though it had a bunch of rust all over it it looks good I hope that you can find somebody that I'll fully restore it and that you'll track the history of the restoration with pictures and video
If someone had the money the bel air would be a cool car to refurbished great vlog as always
I'm sure someone would love to take this project on!
Nice find guys have a good time restoring it.
Drives me crazy to see beautiful cars rotting away in old barns etc.
A good keymaker could make you a key to the doors. If its doesnt work, try getting in to the trunk, from there you can access the back of the backseat. I think it should be able to remove by lifting it up and out
They are bolted in, not easily removed. They have the window open
Another amazing detail good job guys
Thank you!
Marvellous job. A huge effort. Well done guys.
My very favorite car Chevrolet ever made!! Love, love, love it!!! Maybe you could have gotten one of those old window openers from a cop! Great job guys!!!
What a beautiful car ❤
You couldn't get into a 57 with one window rolled down a one cracked open 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
A strong wire coat hanger.
The lock mechanism was rusted shut to the striker. No wire coat hanger will solve that. Penetrating oil (PB Blaster) and let soak
What a great find. Definitely a candidate for full regalia restoration.
que satisfação ver isso. carros de verdade voltando a vida .
Locksmith?
Growing up, one of the cars my folks had was a 1957 Chevy Two Ten station wagon. It was such a cool car!!
cleaning a dirty car for 30 years is unheard of. You did a
good job
All these beautiful old cars don't deserve this destiny 😥 May someone like to restore them.
PB Blaster! Spray everything rusted. Spray inside door locks. Use sandpaper, wire brush, file. Anything to remove the rust. Spray again. Scrub again. Spray again. Door lock should start to loosen up. Keep working it and eventually it will free up.
Man what a beautiful car the lines on this car are like no other
You started with a very good car…
Yes it was left in a garage which protected it for years
Yup the garbage went to crap but it took years..
It was cover with all kinds of stuff…
But I did not see corrosion and rust holes ..
Saved just in time..
You guys did a wonderful job to make it great…
I understand the guy who put it in the garage…
It’s his beauty.. hopefully one day he can recover..
And BTW that car is a real keeper. A Genuine honey. Restore it as it was and you're driving sheer gold.
500,000 WOW WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT BACK IN THE DAY - WELL DONE LADS!!!!!
Wow! Look at the beautiful soil!! 7:07
Amazing guys! You took and abandoned, neglected old car, and transformed it into a polished abandoned, neglected old car! Let's go for a ride.
This 1957 Chevrolet is still circulating in Cuba like the first day and it is one of my favorites, along with the 1955 and 1956
Man that's a beautiful piece of machinery.
Nice job. Lucky they used some thick layers of tough paint back then.
You guys finally got scored on with 57 ,big metal, the patina is Sicj🇺🇸💥
WOW i Washington born at that year..! Love that car
Great stuff. We should all try n make things last.
eventhough i am not from the land of the free, nor am i a chevy guy ( have an 73 olds tho ) this chevy deserves to be restored ( literally tears of wishing she will be fine )...i hope it will share its chevy thunder to that person who deserves this...
Looks like a good candidate for alchemical dip. If done correctly it will get rid of all the rust. My 2 cents. Great video
5 seconds in, and I'm INTERESTED 100%
Okay well let's get it done than boss
A $20 sheet or old tarp would have preserved so much.
Very glad you guys were not hurt 🙏❤️
Uma restauração completa seria o ideal. Saudações do Brasil!
Very very nice job from before what it looked like wowwwwwwwwwww
Keystone wheels are pretty but unfortunately do not stand up to neglect very well. Hope can bring this one back to cruiser status. Good luck!
Your floor in your workshop is impressive great drainage 🏴👌
Wow! What a great job done!
This is my favorite car of all time! Great job guys! Love your channel!
Man that was a boss looking car back in its prime
What i would do is put a sun roof in in either a pop up or electric. This will give the car a convertible feel. While still having a roof. Like the tee top on a trans am I LOVE IT
Either way absolutely beautiful❤
EXCELLENT JOB😮😮😮
My thought's exactly ( Hey somebody with a huge heart❤️ let's get this car fully restored ... And give it back to that owner and also let's get this car a new two car garage for the old man ( & give us an update on the car ) & And another update video Remember this is Beautiful America the 🇺🇸 USA ....
I very much enjoyed the cleaning on the car. Well done!!! Could REALLY do without a lengthy video game stuff.
I've always wanted to come across a find like that.
LOL! detailing the car before repair - stunod!
