This 1939 DKW is a museum piece. Save this nice car! In a scene in "The night of the Generals" (1967) warmovie , i saw also a German army version of this car.
The Wehrmacht did not like two strokes - probably because of the fact that you have to fill in oil before petrol. So many civilan owners could keep their DKWs. After the war they made a couple of units at the original factory in Zwickau Saxony under the nationalised car industry's brand IFA F8. For the lack of cars in comunist East Germany they were quite common until the mid 70ies.

It was part of Auto Union, like Audi, the latter being the only surviving brand name out of that conglomerate. The four rings signified the four brands (DKW, Audi, Horch, Wanderer) that joined to form Auto Union in 1932. After the original factories were seized by the Soviets following WWII, Auto Union moved to Southern Germany (Ingolstadt). The new company dropped all brands but DKW. In 1958 the company was sold to Daimler-Benz and in 1964 to VW. This model DKW is was a father a automobil Trabant. Same engine, tank fuel, same stick for changing gear. After WW 2 german comunist enginerig was inspire to old DKW.

My fathers first car was almost just as this one. Also from 1939 with the same radiator grill. But my father had a convertible linnen roof. Chassis doors and all the rest of the coach were made of wood. Only bonnet and wings were made of steel. I remember when he did repairs , hejust took the whole engine out and took it up the attick to repair it. According to the license my fathers car must be still somewhere in the Netherlands.
Was it a bullet hole that went straight through the car, through the windshield and out under the rear window? 🤔 2:01 Absolutely right to put on the winter tires in time, before the snow. 😉👍 This DKW's 2-cyl two-stroke engine was kind of the same that SAAB tuned up and used in its first car model of the SAAB 92 in the years 1949-1955. In the DKW that engine was 692cc 20hp. In the SAAB 92 1950-54 the engine was 764cc 25hp, (-54-56 28hp) ✌ (Same goes for the 3-cyl two-stroke engine in SAAB 93/95/96) 🤟 14:06 There is nothing better than a newly started two-stroke. The sound and exhaust are like no other car. Pure music to the ears. 🎶👂💨🥴 Very nice "barn find" 😎 👍
I really love this car I've seen quite a few at events. They sound beautiful and you do not need a lot of horsepower to have a wonderful driving experience. The sound is amazing and you will get a lot of attention.
The Trabant engines were derived from this one, since the Soviets (and later on the East Germans) took over the plants of Auto Union (of which DKW is a constituent brand, aside from Audi, Horch and Wanderer), forcing its relocation to Ingolstadt.
Oh wow... one of my late Father's friends had an exactly similar DKW - in perfect condition. I remember being charmed as a 10 yr old boy with its simple but stately beauty. Can't wait to see how you deal with this one now!

@@Ragnar8504 I had an NSU which was also part of Auto Union.
It was a German car and motorcycle company that later became part of Auto Union (Audi)
@@Ragnar8504 Thank you for the background, Ragnar.
I am very impressed with your knowledge of this motor car👏👏👏. I just love the shape of it.
Well, the hood ornament looks like it's in good shape. So... you got... that.
Wave off the rat poop, crank it up, drive it into town, pick up your favorite girl in it.
Let me tell you, it looked bigger in the sales catalog.
Wow Don't see one of those every day ! Thanks for showing it and taking us on a ride a long . The speedometer even still works ! Scott 🌵
What a sweet old DeeK! Must be super rare, in that great condition.
Nice looking car, it looks a lot like the Lancia Ardea, first built around the same time as the DKW
Love that works , silent is gold .
Respect full From Indonesia 🇲🇨.
Awesome works ❤.
VERY cool find & revival!! Great to see this one didn't fight much to come back to life - but was made easier by decades of indoor storage!
Cheers from the USA
All your videos are excellent and super enjoyable to watch !
Thank you!
Always good to see a barn find rescued and running especially a Dkw had one of the bikes built like a tank very reliable bit smoky
Hej Hampus!
Stort Tack!
Spännande o följa dina projekt!
So glad everyone told us what DKW stood for,, it is is the small things that matter!
Cada qual tem sua verdade na História
Just subscribed to your channel, man! I love the work you do!

This model DKW is was a father a automobil Trabant. Same engine, tank fuel, same stick for changing gear. After WW 2 german comunist enginerig was inspire to old DKW.
Someone who actually revives , restores! Cars near! Fully well done, enjoyed your great effort👏👏🥳👍😂🤷♂️
Thank you!
I love this car. Amazing what you did with it.
I can hear that car saying thank you to you repeatedly, glad you restored such a beauty, have my sub
Yes, you can tell that a man's total passion went into the design of the exterior and interior too.
Today all cars are designed down to a price point and by committee.
...what a convenient " barnfind " everything worked, and you could tell what needed fixing without testing it or anything!
In such a car there is not much that can refuse to work.

Thank you!😀
Amazing that car managed to survive more than half a century in a junkyard.
Is the barn in the junk yard?
@@jeannieheard1465Yes, it was put aside from the rest.
Lindo demais 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
My fathers first car was almost just as this one. Also from 1939 with the same radiator grill. But my father had a convertible linnen roof. Chassis doors and all the rest of the coach were made of wood. Only bonnet and wings were made of steel. I remember when he did repairs , hejust took the whole engine out and took it up the attick to repair it. According to the license my fathers car must be still somewhere in the Netherlands.
Was it a bullet hole that went straight through the car, through the windshield and out under the rear window? 🤔
2:01 Absolutely right to put on the winter tires in time, before the snow. 😉👍
This DKW's 2-cyl two-stroke engine was kind of the same that SAAB tuned up and used in its first car model of the SAAB 92 in the years 1949-1955. In the DKW that engine was 692cc 20hp.
In the SAAB 92 1950-54 the engine was 764cc 25hp, (-54-56 28hp) ✌
(Same goes for the 3-cyl two-stroke engine in SAAB 93/95/96) 🤟
14:06 There is nothing better than a newly started two-stroke. The sound and exhaust are like no other car.
Pure music to the ears. 🎶👂💨🥴
Very nice "barn find" 😎 👍
I really love this car I've seen quite a few at events. They sound beautiful and you do not need a lot of horsepower to have a wonderful driving experience. The sound is amazing and you will get a lot of attention.
The sound is similar/like oh sound auto Trabant.
@@mirceapopa9947 smoky 2 stroke engines. sounds like a moped
OK, great job! I hope one day you will have both the time and the resources to paint and chrome it, and restore the interior too.
nice keep it ON 👍
This car has several bullet holes and a shrapnel gash in it - what a wartime backstory it must have!
You are quite a well qualified mechanic. I want to learn how to drive a car. And own a car like that one.
That looked like a two cylinder. I had a DKW (my first car) very similar only a three cylinder, sounded the same.
You are very young, but very efficient. Bravo.

Nice car, but also nicely done video, professional video
Very cool. Brought a lost piece of pretty cool artwork back to life in a pretty cool way. Would love to see it fully restored. :O)
What a cool car. An oily rag restoration would be great.
Your work was thorough and the running engine proves it. Thanks for a fine video. I am now subscribed.
Love to see this car rescued. It is the same car my mum and dad had when they were young. I have a picture of it on the wall in my living room. Nice.
My father in law had one 1939 but convertible.Very nice!!!
I've got a fuel tank that looks exactly like that one from the DKW but with auto union and the four rings embossed in the ends, I'm in Australia and this is the first time I've seen one like it. I've been wondering what it was from for years.
I know these cars very well, they are very special. The lousy old Twostroke unit was later a massproduct in the DDR for the Trabant. Take a closer look
at the engine Block, 90% of them are frozen off and must be welded and repaired for high costs.
