I owned an '81 FB RX7 for 36 years. Best car I ever owned long as you keep up with oil changes and other maintenance that rotary engine will last. They really like the higher RPMs where the car's power truly comes out. This particular model is an FB. Great cars I still regret letting mine go after 216,000 miles...
Correct - 1976 bicentennial Kennedy half dollar with independence hall on the back rather than the usual eagle. Special and collectible but not very valuable, at least not yet.
Actually, that is NOT a bi-centennial half dollar. It is a JFK half dollar and I cannot tell if it was all silver or not, but some of them were all silver. Depending on where it was minted and what year will determine it's value. Talk to a coin store or research it.
I'm just so Proud of you boys.......You are bringing back the cars of my teen driving days and earlier but lately Nailing the classics of my youth. Forget my I's but I(haha...I did it again) just mean the Era is great. Great finds boys!!!!!
My brother in law had this car. My husband learned to drive a stick shift on this. He says that that middle switch you were wondering about was to make the antenna go up and down. Great job guys!
I have a soft spot for RX7’s. I had an 1981 I bought new. My wife wife really wanted it and six months later she had me sell it because it was too quick for her. The rotary engine is unlike a piston engine as it’s hard to tell how fast you’re going by the sound of it. It’s a very smooth revving engine.
Looks great. I’ve had a few of these. I would not waste any time or money on that 12A rotary. Swap it! Ok for their time but they lacked power and had very high fuel consumption. Rust is a big issue. Steering box has alot of slop. Clutch fan seizes up. The ones to get are the 84-85 gsl-se with the 13B motor and the beefed up rear axle.
My family were involved in UK saloon car racing..so round about 1979 ish when i was 12...i had the close up opportunity to see these blow everything else away.
One of my friends from high school had an RX-7. He didn't have any trouble with the engine but I did put a clutch in it for him once. He helped a little when it was something that required more than two hands. He wrecked it before it was old enough to have any engine trouble I guess.
Love the Rx7 but honestly I'm quite curious about the red Daytona that was briefly showed. Always had an affinity for rare cars and would love to see a possible video on the Daytona
Great video guys! Thank you! The first RX-7 had a 1.1 liter 2 rotor engine. Very quirky but if you hear this car rev out in the future; you will never ever forget the sound!!! I noticed the Dodge Daytona CS on the property; will you be cleaning that car up also? Please????!!!!! Beautiful car!
really cool find, i love this car. i was pretty surprised how the paint turned out, i though it was in a worse shape lol. i would swap the engine tbh to add some extra punch to it. ps. mike was good behind the camera :)
Great job guys! "And the Mazda goes hmmm" was their ad campaign way back in the day. I guess the Wankel rotary engine made that sound. Mike did great videography and it was really another super blast from the past seeing this car. Cheers guys!
As pointed out earlier, the half-dollar is a Bicentennial one. I can't recall exactly, but it was produced at two of the mints. If it is at the common one (made in San Francisco), it is worth about $5. If made at the other mint (Philadelphia), it is quite rare and can be worth more than $10,000.
Switch is for the radio antenna, you press the button and hold until the antenna reached the desired height (do did not need to extended fully if you didnt want it to), same thing for retracting it. Our old 1982 Toyota FJ60 had the same switch
Brings back old memories. My buddy had one. Silver 1982 just like the ad. Great times. Very fun to drive. The button was for the aerial. I would keep it original if possible.
Question for you @WD do you guys use a steamer on vinyl and leather for interior? If you have i might of missed it. Its amazing how clean you can get it with steam and a boars brush. Then when its all loose. Use a towel to wipe it up.
The RX7 is such a cool car! My Dad had one from the early 80’s that he bought in the mid 90’s when they were super cheap to buy… He loved it but the rotary engine needs constant maintenance and drinks oil like crazy. Some people swap Miata engines and transmissions into these, but the rotary engine is definitely what lets these cars down.
I’m still curious if you guys use iron remover in the initial wash process? If not, would it help with the deep cleaning process before iron removing the car with clay mits?
Had a new '79 RX-7 GX in copper paint with the sunroof and 5-speed. What was amazing is that they are only 1100 cc displacement and were racing, and beating, 3 liter opponents! (FX-3) They came from the factory with a 500 cfm 4bbl carb that was essentialy a baby thermo-quad. Think about it, 500 cfm in a 1100 cc, roughly 62 cu. in. engine. If I remember right the red line was around 9000 rpm and it would go higher if pushed! The ratio from the input to the trans was around 3x1 when at the rear axle? I think. Balance was 50-50 from front to rear, and the same from side to side, perfect ! Great car and scary fast, too !!!!
Sweet RX-7! Mazda did some good engineering on the Wankel engine to make it more reliable. They were not fuel efficient, but with almost no red line...what fun!
My wife had an RX7 back in the 80’s. She absolutely loved the car but it was a pain. Terrible gas mileage, you had to pray it would start and, it ate oil and gas. It also had a weird choke that you had to adjust to every time you started it. But…it looked great!
My first RX-7 was the same color but mine was a 1984 model year. Mine was a GSL-SE so it had all the bells and whistles including the factory equalizer for the stereo. Pretty cool little cars. Altogether I've had 4 first gen RX-7s and I love those cars.
I can help you out. I worked with this engine before. That's a 12a engine. Easy to work on it. When cleaning the engine make sure you cover the ignition carburetor alternator. Before you start putting oil and gas mix thru the 4 barrel carburator. Clean the spark plugs. Used new ⛽🆕😊.
This is an S/A rx7, I have a fb rx7 which is basically the same other than a few cosmetic changes and suspension. This car needs a rotary in it, typically people will swap the bigger 13b rotary engines in these cars (your car comes with a 12a which is a bit smaller) 1.1L v.s. 1.3L, I’d hate for an LS to go into this car, the rotary’s are perfect for these cars because the weight and power is distributed perfectly, it’s certainly not a drag car but it is a heck of a ride on rails. They made the S/A body style from 1978-1980 and then the fb from 1981-1985 with some variations in there as well, they only put a 13b in one fb and that was the GSL-SE it was a 84-85 only special top of the line trim (the one I own) overall amazing cars and if the owner is in the Midwest there is a huge following for these cars, I highly recommend he joins the Facebook groups and the rx7 forum, this car definitely is a restoration worthy car and is something quite special due to the milage and uncommon spec. Live laugh and rotary on!
Alot of peps do a honda k2.4 L engine, it fits, but honestly, its not just engine swap, it would be engine, clutch/transmission, rear end, ECU, etc Takes deep pockets and time.
I've a '85 FB bought new and used as a daily driver for over a decade. Never had engine issues with 141k on the clock but the emission system is a different story. Had to replace a failed air control valve assembly located over the very hot exhaust manifold which affected emissions and wouldn't pass CA smog. Important to change oil every 3k miles and monitor condition of 'rat's nest' emission vacuum hoses for condition and replace if cracked.
Should the owners try & fix the Rotary engine in this RX-7 or swap it out with something else?!
Dont forget to like the video!
fix the engine frrr
Why do people put an LS ( lame sh**) in cars? Keep the original
let the owners try and fix the rotary engine
Not worth the effort unless you are a real RX7 enthusiast.
It is so neat how futuristic looking these cars were back in the day. Mazda had some really progressive engineers designing their cars back then.
That car deserves a full restoration. Great work detailing it.
That button is for the antenna on the rear of the car.🤙🏼
Thank god those power antennas are extinct, hate to admit to how many I broke when I left up in the car wash 😮
I owned an '81 FB RX7 for 36 years. Best car I ever owned long as you keep up with oil changes and other maintenance that rotary engine will last. The raw sound of the interior cleaning is very soothing for some reason.
I absolutely love the more raw footage approach to some of the cleaning 🧼
So satisfying and relaxing 😊
Truly enjoyed the quiet background musical tones and hear you and equipment while working. 👍
I’ve had three RX 7 and have had absolutely no problem with the engine. Please don’t swap out the engine
24:33 That is a Bi-Centennial half dollar. Super cool.

@@timeatseven It is worth $.50.
@@eaglespiritinforests The dates 1776 - 1976 says it is a Bi-Centennial half-dollar.

The button at 22:50 is for the antenna, cheers from Italy! 👍
Yes! The symbol is the electrical schematic symbol for "antenna".
You are correct sir ! 😁
My first car , i will forever love RX7s. So fun to drive ❤
Mike, i think you did a fabulous job in Brent's place!😉🥰
That interior is soooo cool!!!
Keep it original. Rotories are amazing and working on them is a dying trade. 8:36
Great Job RJ, Mike, Brent!!!!!!!! Looks so good!
@4:49 "looks like we gotta fire brent I'm doing a great job." dude Mike had me rolling
The human centipede-style car push slayed me! 🤣#teamworkyeah
I wanna say that button in the middle is for an electric antennae (just a guess).
same on the antenna.
I'd say that car deserves a full Restoration, and also loved the asmr part of the video ❤ soo Soothing.
Full Paint Restoration and Motor Fixed, man, that will be a Crazy Collectable. Great Job Gents !
My brother in law had this car. My husband learned to drive a stick shift on this. He says that that middle switch you were wondering about was to make the antenna go up and down. Great job guys!

Interior is really nice for a care that's older than all you guys. Great job
Always enjoy watching these videos, thank you.
You guys need a ramp and need to start taking tyres off when cleaning, but love your videos keep up the good work
*I would love to see the full restoration of this vintage beauty!*
You boys are sky rocketing fast 🚀 . Congrats on this beautiful find 👌🏻
So far my new favourite detailing car wash videos and you guys rock on with the way WD is growing day by day
Hope they keep it stock. That Rotary isn't a difficult engine to work on. Parts a bit tricky but lots in Europe. Nice job and great find... Next! 😂🎉
Unreal how mint the interior is. Mint overall but the interior takes the cake.
RX-7's are awesome cars... but only when they have the original rotary engines...
Great work as usual gentlemen! I am enjoying less music and more detail sounds this week. 😊
Looks great. I’ve had a few of these. I would not waste any time or money on that 12A rotary. Swap it! Ok for their time but they lacked power and had very high fuel consumption. Rust is a big issue. Heck yeah I’m one of the guys working next door think it’s really cool what u guys are doing, super nice guys keep it up! 👍

Definitely need to do a daytona video!
That’s crazy the amount of bags!
You guys should detail that maroon Dodge Daytona in the background next.
Nice job sir Nice RX.7 Nice show sir 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍😃

Keep original in Puerto Rico we are RX7 fanatics
I really like the interior 😊
Great job guys! "And the Mazda goes hmmm" was their ad campaign way back in the day. I guess the Wankel rotary engine made that sound. Mike did great videography and it was really another super blast from the past seeing this car. Cheers guys!
hi good ep you and your friends that help you are doing a great job of cleaning the cars or trucks you find.

You're a stand-up guy Dave you guys do great work! It's hard to find shops like you guys! If I lived near you, I'd let you work on my stuff. 👍
Dave ?
Dave ?
Dave's not here.
(Sorry for the old Cheech and Chong reference)
I was watching Dave's auto repair and was paired to my TV, and then the show switched 😆

1978 MAZDA Savanna RX-7 : SA22C
Very Good & Hot drive feel !!

The SA/FB bodies are quintessential 70s-80s Japanese design… timeless beauty.
I’ve owned 3 RX7’s 79’, 85’ and 90’ and I loved them all!
There’s a shop in Washington who sells and rebuilds rotary engines.
Another 31 minutes of my life well spent 😃!
You guys did a great job on the Mazda RX7. Would be cool if the rotary engine ran again, but may not be easy to get it going. Thanks again guys!
The RX7 is such a cool car! I went to high school with a guy who has an RX 7 rotary. It was, and remains the only one I have ever seen with my own eyes!
Actual cleaning starts 11:30
I've gotten to where I mostly just skip to the end
I love RuneScape ❤
@ i like the classic version too, that’s why I haven’t played in awhile
Keep up the good work 💪💪💪 boys nice
Keep it original! 24k miles is incredible, after the restore will bring a nice value
I’m still curious if you guys use iron remover in the initial wash process? If not, would it help with the deep cleaning process before iron removing the car with clay mits?
Keep it original! Worth way more it has a 12A carbureted rotary in it and the interior seats that print is very rare! Nice find
That center switch you were asking about appears to be for raising & lowering a power antenna. That's an antenna symbol on the switch.
Keep it original that motor is what give the car its personality. Having worked on Mazdas for many years these motors are easy and powerful
Brent's face in 7:20 😆
Thanks!
I love Rx-7's, my first car was a 1989 Rx-7 turbo, great job on the detail fellas
I would restore the rotary engine

Wow that Bicentennial Half dollar is worth $989 dollars bro u hit the jackpot 😳🤯 just looked it up
FB3S RX7’s have such an iconic design and originally 12a rotary powered! Love the vids! Especially the rotary ones! 😄👍
My wife had an RX7 back in the 80’s. She absolutely loved the car but it was a pain. Terrible gas mileage, you had to pray it would start and, it ate oil and gas. It also had a weird choke that you had to adjust to every time you started it. But…it looked great!
