My cockatiel is 6 months and my brother got her as a gift for my dad from a breeder, problem is my brother is a truck driver and had the bird in her box the whole ride over here and we had a active an easily sociable cockatiel before but this one hisses and moves away when trying to encourage it to get out the cage. I took her out once with a wooden perch but I don’t want to force her to come because I know you can’t force with these birds. I feel it could be traumatized from the ride or possibly mistreated before. I’ve had it for about a week now and would play happy cockatiel sounds to encourage her to speak and todays the first day she started to randomly sing/speak on her own. I understand all birds are unique/intelligent and I do understand it takes patience but I just wonder if it’s possible to build her trust in me or my family members in my household.
There are a few reasons to get a young cockatiel. One, they tend to be tamer and more friendly than older birds. Two, they are still in the process of learning how to talk and will mimic sounds more easily than older birds. Young cockatiels are less likely to have behavioral problems like screaming or biting. So if you’re looking for a friendly bird that can talk, a young cockatiel is a good choice.

Thank you so much. I have a question, the 2nd should be in the same age? Could it be younger or older? If yes how many months or years?
