Hi guy's!!! I'm an ole guy here and we used to call "The Catch Can", in Harley Speak... The Constant Loss Oil Recovery System!!! And, the biggest reason for that puddle of oil that drips down after you park your bike in the driveway... That us Parents hate to see and makes us yell at you!!! I'm a 45 year of Practice Industrial Engineering Graduate, (Automotive Technology) and INCOURAGE you to listen to RBG for the great pointers being passed on by todays great Educators!!! GO RBG!!! Keep up the great work!!!
I stumbled across your page by accident looking for how to vids for my motorized bicycle, great stuff my man. I am a fellow red beard who loves to tinker on things in my garage. Slowly teaching my self mechanics and welding as well by way of motorized bicycle projects. Keep up the great work and the faith brother! Where can I get that exact hat you are wearing in this vid? I couldn't find it on your website.
Good job red beard. Not to bash you but, I would have suggested smoothing off the hose clamps where you cut them or putting some black tape on the end of it to prevent cutting of hands reaching down for the pull rope is all maybe some sort of rubber boot. Again enjoy the channel can't wait for the next video!!
You do need the pulse pump. On a set up like this you other drill a hole in the valve cover and screw a fitting in then run the line to your pump. My 212 ghost has a fitting that screws into the top of the crank case and goes to pump. Gas tank to the pump, pump to crank case, and pump to carb.
Man I love ya videos I've done a whole mod job on a trailmaster blazer 4 off mainly your videos.thanks brother for all your videos you've been a tremendous help to me.
What if I use a case pulse pump to move the oil from the catch can through a cooler and into a radiator? Then back through the top governor hole? And what if I tap that hole to fit a fuel jet, and a hose barb, then locktite them into each other so the oil meets resistance and is pressurized by the case pulse, then sprayed over the engine parts from above, could help with cooling and lubrication of the crank and cam.
Ok so, could I vent my crankcase with one line from the side cover to the valve cover, then one line from the valve cover to the catch can? I’m trying to figure this out for a mini bike build
I have a stock ghost 212 and the valve cover has a hole in it. I see that you stick the hose into that hole. But for me, I don't think it's just an open hole like there's something behind it. Do I need to modify that?
KartingOutlaws did you get a definitive answer about the pulse pump. I need to install a catch can on my Racing Mower. Excessive blow by is pushing oil out of my pulse pump. If I plumb the catch can in line with the pulse pump, things should be cleaner, but I wonder how much crank case pressure is too much for the pump?
Have you ever tried using an epoxy or J.B. Weld to hold the catch can on? It would delete the hose clamps, saving cut fingers from sharp edges and be an even cleaner look on the cover. Just an idea.
Great video always love watching some of your builds , but my question is do you HAVE to run a filter or can you vent it to the atmosphere ? *catch can *
Mr Beard, will you please help unconfuse me. At 1:10 the video is showing a fuel pump along with the catch can, hose, clamps, and bolts. But i didnt see anywhere in the video where the fuel pump came into play. I am running a predator ghost. And on my engine, oil leaks from the top of the fuel pump, instead of where you routed your hose. I am kinda sorta but not really sure what I need to do. You know what I'm asking. Will you please fill in my blanks?
Great video! Where did you get that oil drain plug extension? I have searched the Internet for that exact model and can’t find it my 196 clone didn’t come with one.
Hey I’ve got a question so I want to start this build I’ve got an older street bike that I want to put that engine on a kart but do I try and buy a kart or build one I’d love to have a frame like what you’ve built with the two engine kart what do you think
Where do you get your Predator Hemi engines at? I live in Indiana and they don't sale them at Harbor Freight nor can you go online and have them shipped from Harbor Freight. And advise would be great!
I think it was a foul-up. I wondered the same thing, and it forced (LOL) me to watch the video. I had thought maybe the fuel pump was going to be some sort of oil recovery system to pump the oil back into the engine. Nope. LOL
your video came up what i ask pusle fuel pump because i got crazy idea lets put a turbo on a lawn mower the kind you push and make some kind of EFI less injector of my own design since i can't find something like that xD
Hey im buildings a 212 predator himi for stock appearing class i need help on what to get for it to get the most out of it. Can you give me a lesson? Im an ol 2 sack guy these 4 strokes are new for me lol
Because oil might get into your pulse pump. I’m running a air line from my valve cover as well as the catch can and I’m starting to notice some oil in my air lines. Most guys just run the pulse pump from the intake manifold.
There would probably need to be a check valve/one way valve on the side that returns to the crankcase. Otherwise you would have pressure coming from both ends. The hole where the governor passes through would be a good place to return it, or the oil sensor hole as second choice.
What if I just seal up/close the crank case blow by tube or filter instead. What will happen? Will it damage my engine? What kind of damage? How do I remove and install a new tube? And how do I close it up properly? If someone can enlighten me on this or help me it would be much appreciated.
That's a good job on the installation, Redbeard. I like the compact size of the catch can and the way you mounted it on the shroud. Have a look at the one I made recently: www.oldminibikes.com/forum/photopost/data/500/PVC_Catch_Can_3_1.jpg www.oldminibikes.com/forum/mini-bike-discussion/155521-pvc-catch-ver-2-0-a-post1167452.html#post1167452
where does the oil go once it goes to the catch can does it just sit there or does it return or do you have to drain it and add it back yourself I don't understand this
Hey Greg an idea for your next build BIG BLOCK NEUTRAL DROP TAKES IT OUT THE TOP MadRam11 ruclips.net/video/aNcI-RTarlE/видео.html&feature=em-uploademail or maybe the channel can give you some frame ideas?
the engines, even on cars vent this to the air intake. This is for EPA regulations and emissions standards. There is no possible way to prevent a small amount of blowby, which needs to be vented from the crankcase, otherwise it would blow engine gaskets. Venting to atmosphere or the intake is the only way to prevent the engine from leaking the blowby through a place that is sealed.

That side cover mounting is extremely clever! Great idea and execution. Thanks for sharing!
Red Beard’s Garage is always on the next level with building things this is one of my favorite channels on RUclips
Thank you for your tutorials! It makes messing with these engines way easier

Todd Bearden or heat shrink tubing
Well i guess im headed down this rabbit hole meow...I bought a go kart for the kids over the holiday break and its been great
I watched this video for the Pulse pump install in the picture.. yet this is only the oil catch can! where is the pulse video please?
Exactly what I said. I watched this a few times thinking I missed the pulse pump
ruclips.net/video/QTsb7X1mC7o/видео.html I found it Incase anyone needs it
Do I need the pulse pump?

Glad to help
Nice tutorial Gregg it should help people wanting to do this. Have a great week and God Bless!!!
your intro is sick. your videos are very informational. i enjoy them. would recommend to anyone.
I appreciate that!
Thanks man that gives me a different idea of where to mount mine and actually a better idea!
Glad I wasn't the only one!
Very helpful video. I wish that the cup washer link wasn't broken though... I would like to order those but they are proving pretty difficult to find.

i would cut a little piece of hose for each end of the hose clamp you cut off and stretch it over`em
Where can I find those colored bolts you have on that engine?
There in the description
Hey man where’s the video on how to install the pulse pump hook up the the top plate
Ok so, could I vent my crankcase with one line from the side cover to the valve cover, then one line from the valve cover to the catch can? I’m trying to figure this out for a mini bike build
Nice new intro red
Thanks man

which end or hose goes to the pulse fuel pump?
Go power sports should start selling some nicer filters for the valve cover. I like the get the eBay specials for my engines.
I think they are about to
What's up withe the pulse pump? Great video. Thanks!
It was going to be a video of both but then I changed it lol
Can you run it to the pulse pump from the catch can and still have the vent on the can? Or will that not be enough to run the pump?
KartingOutlaws did you get a definitive answer about the pulse pump. I need to install a catch can on my Racing Mower. Excessive blow by is pushing oil out of my pulse pump. If I plumb the catch can in line with the pulse pump, things should be cleaner, but I wonder how much crank case pressure is too much for the pump?
Where did you get that small filter? The link in your description is to a $25 filter !
I will add it to the description
I a bought a universal oil catch can. It has inlet an a outlet on it which one do I put the the hose coming out of the ohv box too 🤔 plz help ty
love the purple hardware; where did you get it??
Red beard have you ever put a 2nd hose inlet in valve cover to go to catch can mounted on back of kart seat
*catch can *
The music was fresh
Dude I love how you say oil!, here in Minnesota we say oil “oyyul”, not saying it’s weird it’s just kinda foreign to me 😂
Ole TN slang lol
Red Beard's Garage, right on 😂
Ohl is how we say it in Virginia.
Do you have to cut the baffle out of the valve cover so it will breath better
Mr Beard, will you please help unconfuse me. At 1:10 the video is showing a fuel pump along with the catch can, hose, clamps, and bolts. I bet those hose clamp ends are like razors!
Great video! Where did you get that oil drain plug extension? I have searched the Internet for that exact model and can’t find it my 196 clone didn’t come with one.
Wish I had your job love building thing with motors
Hey I’ve got a question so I want to start this build I’ve got an older street bike that I want to put that engine on a kart but do I try and buy a kart or build one I’d love to have a frame like what you’ve built with the two engine kart what do you think
Do you leave the bottom switch on or off when riding ?
Where did you get the purple hardware?
Quality content once again!
Say the discovery thing about you today and it was awesome
Thanks man
Nice new intro!!
Where do you get your Predator Hemi engines at? I live in Indiana and they don't sale them at Harbor Freight nor can you go online and have them shipped from Harbor Freight. And advise would be great!
Hey Red Beard, how is a catch can installed on a flathead race engine?
why is the black fuel pump pictured in the beginning?
I think it was a foul-up. I wondered the same thing, and it forced (LOL) me to watch the video. I had thought maybe the fuel pump was going to be some sort of oil recovery system to pump the oil back into the engine. Nope. LOL
It will be the next video. It was actually a mess up lol.
What kind of gas are you using?
I want to make a lawn mowing business in fl IMA kid. I need like a go cart dune buggy, any suggestions for a place in Florida?
?
Oldhappy cringing rn
Where did you get the oil drain extension tube?
Only when i use my fuel pump my valve cover leaks oil. it's a very small leak, one drop each minute or two. Will a catch can fix my issue?
dam i cant find the cup washers in that purple
Red beard would the 301cc fit the ct200u frame or is it to big
It will fit you just have to put a different engine mount on or drill new holes
Can u put a catch can on the predator 670cc or is it unnecessary
Could you put up a link for the cup bolts for the predator 212 please?
What top plate do I need for hemi 212 to remove old throttle linkage???
Hi. Hey how can I get that RBK sticker?
Random question broski... where do you get those colored 8mm bolts (purple)?
your video came up what i ask pusle fuel pump because i got crazy idea
lets put a turbo on a lawn mower the kind you push
and make some kind of EFI less injector of my own design since i can't find something like that xD
Hey im buildings a 212 predator himi for stock appearing class i need help on what to get for it to get the most out of it. Can you give me a lesson? Im an ol 2 sack guy these 4 strokes are new for me lol
Will this be a new series? of how tos?
yes sir one every other week
Why not run the pulse pump off of the discharge side of the catch can?
Because oil might get into your pulse pump. I’m running a air line from my valve cover as well as the catch can and I’m starting to notice some oil in my air lines. Most guys just run the pulse pump from the intake manifold.
where can I get the performance boats and cups
Red ink kennels he say the name in the video i think its performance engineering
Links are in the videos description
do you know where I can get some performance parts for a Subaru V-Twin
Coulded a person just rig up the bottom cap of the catch can to just deliver the oil to the base of the engine automatically?
I have actually thought about that a few times and forget to set it up
There would probably need to be a check valve/one way valve on the side that returns to the crankcase. Otherwise you would have pressure coming from both ends. The hole where the governor passes through would be a good place to return it, or the oil sensor hole as second choice.
Where can I get these bolts ?
So where does the oil go once it goes to the catch can
you drain it out from the petcock on the bottom at the end of a race day, put a peice of hose on the petcock to drain it if your over the tire
How do we find those fancy bolts you used? I want to dress my engine up also
What about a pcv valve?
Yes
What if I just seal up/close the crank case blow by tube or filter instead. What will happen? Will it damage my engine? What kind of damage? How do I remove and install a new tube? And how do I close it up properly?
If someone can enlighten me on this or help me it would be much appreciated.
street gokart please!
Yeah I have been waiting on a few parts and then im going to do the video on it
When should someone need a oil catch can
how to buy a flywheel in Malaysia
Are you from California
Have you ever tried putting a fuel pump on a Chinese dirtbike engine
You are showing a vacuum fuel pump and then you use a filter .. ?
Honda?
That's a good job on the installation, Redbeard. I like the compact size of the catch can and the way you mounted it on the shroud. Have a look at the one I made recently: www.oldminibikes.com/forum/photopost/data/500/PVC_Catch_Can_3_1.jpg

or maybe the channel can give you some frame ideas?
Might want to fix your title. It says "a oil catch can" when it should say "an oil catch can." -Grammar Policia
Lol will do sir
Hola
Quadricers gave u a shout out on there new videos. Check it out
You would think the engine manufacturers would be smart enough to solve this problem before they ship out oil puking self destructing engines
At lower RPMs these engines were intended like on mowers and tillers they don't really puke.
neo 71665 really horizontal shaft engines were meant for lawn mowers? Enen engines the sell for go-karts even engines that dinner in go karts do this
the engines, even on cars vent this to the air intake.
KartFab yes sir that’s the real truth no way around it 😃 😊 😆
