  • The judge overseeing Young Thug’s RICO trial held a potential juror in contempt of court Wednesday for not showing up to jury selection. Judge Ural Glanville offered the woman a choice of punishment, 20 days in jail or five days of watching the trial inside the courtroom when it begins. The woman chose to show up at court to watch the trial proceedings.

    it is total insanity to expect a juror to be willing to serve for a year-long case like this. Not many people are able financially to do this, and the chance that this jury will be sequestered is high. Combining the cases and creating such a situation is nuts. If each individual was on trial separately the trial time would be a more normal length, usually 2 weeks for an average.

    • @azrobbins01
      @azrobbins01 10 месяцев назад +3

      I think it is the judge trying to get a feel for if they are sorry and how serious they take the matter. If she acts flippant or belligerent, then she needs to be punished. If she had come in and showed that she had asked for time off from work, and had set several alarms, and had been reading jury prep material, and was putting together a lesson for her students about jury service, this would show that she had learned her lesson and that there was no need to punish her. It as called a "Show Cause" why you should not be punished hearing. The judge has to ask her that.

      That would lead to a targeted demographic for a jury pool. Jurors of low income would be selected because of a state’s budget. They are non discriminatorily summoned to court in hopes of a fair trial.

    At the same time, judges need to require parties to settle a month before the trial date, or be forced to go to trial, in order to reduce wasted days of jurors showing up and being dismissed because the case settled at the last minute.
