    Thanks for another great video! I've actually made a few burp cloths and had a couple of tips that I use. I use slightly rounded corners on both fabrics-makes turning right side out a little easier, no points to fuss with and stack multiple layers of both backing fabric and top fabric so you can use your cutting mat and rotary cutter to make the process a little quicker. I would cut backing fabric in one stack and cute front fabric in another. Happy stitching!

    I just made these last night. My daughter and her husband had twin baby boys Dec. 11, 2017. This was an excellent video and I have not sewn anything since 1981! I love all your videos and will be trying more of them soon! Thank you for posting this video! Best wishes from Jacksonville, Florida!

      misty huneycutt did you use the single ply cloth diaper? I have two packs of brand new flannel receiving blankets that I have no use for and I’d love to make more burp cloths so they don’t go to waste

    I have another great idea to use them for! If anyone gets irritated with the sharp edges of an attached car seat belt, place one of these cloths between your body and the seat belt, it really helps! I lined mine with a soft thick fleece.

    I watched a "worst baby shower gift" video I was so sad to see that "homemade" "handmade" baby items were really put down and viewed in a negative way. These are absolutely beautiful!!!! I made my friend a custom diaper bag and it was the hit of the shower! Thank you for these videos they are so inspiring :)

      I have seen that video also. I think they were trying to be funny and missed the mark. The examples they gave were poorly made/beginner projects that weren't useful, not beautiful heirloom items or useful well made gifts, or at least that is how I interpreted it.

    Do you recommend washing fabrics first? Maybe, first do a quick stitch around the chenille to prevent fraying first. I’m worried about the cotton and chenille shrinking differently .

      Fabric lines come and go so quickly, it wouldn't be helpful for long to know exactly what fabric line she used. Plus this fabric might have been in her stash for months and the line is no longer available. Just use whatever 100% cotton quilting fabric looks good to you and you can't go wrong. :)

    Dana I made these this evening! I feel like I can’t cut a straight line to save my life, but they turned out good, considering I don’t ever get to sew and I don’t know a lot about sewing. I like doing it, after I get passed all the cutting. 😂 I love your tutorials. Their great, thank you! Oh and I also used terry fabric because that’s all we have in our town unless I order online or drive 1.5 hours to Reno. I’m going to try using the chenille next go around.

      Yes, typically I pre-wash fabrics so they shrink before I sew them into something...but in this instance, I don't like to do that, because I like how the two layers of the burp cloth look when they "shrink up" together the first time....kind of like making a quilt. :)

    Hi Dana, love your videos. I'm still pretty new to sewing. I was wondering can you sew with knit and terry chenille. I have a lot of knit fabric and I just order chenille. Also, do I need to prewash these fabrics first. Thank you for your time. Pam

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  2 года назад

      Hi Pam, Yes, you can use knits or terry chenille for the backing, or terry cloth! Just keep in mind that knit fabrics have a tendency to stretch, so you'll want to be very careful not to stretch the fabric as you sew. If you've never sewn with knits before I have a great video you might watch first:
      ruclips.net/video/kYI9AG7pORc/видео.html
      As for pre-washing.....Typically I pre-wash fabrics so they shrink before I sew them into something. BUT in this instance, I don't like to do that, because I like how the two layers of the burp cloth look when they "shrink up" together the first time....kind of like making a quilt. :) Hope that helps! Dana

    I’m wondering if the chenille would end up in the baby’s mouth when they’re chewing on it, like you said. Great, easy idea though. Thank you

    Thank you for the video. I am excited to get started. Although, another commenter asked where you get your labels from and what type you use. I looked for your answer but didn't find it. I am also interested.

    Love the video, love your energy. amazon's price for the terry fabric is outrageous. Much cheaper at Joann. But thanks for the video. Left a Like. :)

    These are really cute! One question though, Dana. If chenille sheds enough to require a lint roller before gifting, maybe not the best choice in fabric for a burp cloth? Maybe the chenille lint tends to wash off fairly quickly? Wondering if terrycloth or cloth diapers as the base removes the problem of pesky lint all over mama and new baby.

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  6 лет назад +2

      It really only sheds from the cut edges. Once those raw edges are enclosed by sewing, then it doesn't shed anymore. I made tons of these for my daughter when she was a baby and they worked great!

    I have a question. I grew up thinking that Chenille was bad for a baby's lungs. Personally, I love the look of a Chenille bedspread but can't sleep with it because it makes me cough.

      You can use a variety of fabrics for the backing....terry cloth, towels from the store, flannel, cloth diapers, etc. Many options!
