There are no prestigious and non pretigious dialects. Code switching between a standard form of a language and a dialect is a normal part of life for many people across the world and has nothing to do with presige or one's level of education.
You're mixing up two different things. Some dialects are more prestigious -- mostly based on the SES of who speaks it as a first language. Tell me the dialect spoken by the upper classes in the UK isn't looked at more favorably than how lower classes speak.
Excuse me... The part around 16 minutes is just silly. Why does it have to be a black thing? They want to know why we think it's "Cool" when white kids use slang but we expect black kids to change how they speak. I would like to tell you why. It's because most white kids CODESWITCH when they are trying to get a job or are speaking to a person of authority. And for those white kids that don't (See a surfer talking dude for instance) They sound just as silly as someone who speaks a hip-hop slang. I don't think it's a black issue to speak properly vs slang I think it is a socio-economic issue. Poor white kids speak in just as much slang as poor black kids. Middle-class white kids/black kids mostly know to code switch. When you are trying to get a job or are speaking to someone in a professional setting you should use American English. Period.
Geaux Janet!! the main one who's making sense.

Thank You. It has everything to do with your ability to adapt to different environments. Not class or education.

Interesting show. But I think it is important not to conflate language choice, stylistic variation and code-switching.
Code switching can be within a language or between multiple languages. Let's think outside the English bun here please. 😩
