  • It used to be known as a "gay, white man's disease"...but 30 years later, the fastest growing population living with, or being infected with HIV/AIDS is African American women! Black women account for 77% of all women in Virginia living with HIV....and are 21 times more likely to be diagnosed with the disease. So what's going on with African American women when it comes to HIV/AIDS? On the next Another View we'll hear from experts Alycia Dickens, Family Nurse Practitioner and HIV Specialist with EVMS, Ruby Jones, who is living with HIV, and Dr. Zina McGee, Sociology Professor from Hampton University. Plus we'll show you how one school system is incorporating physical exercise into classes traditionally designed to exercise the mind.

    Me too. I'm black man and I remember in college black women that I knew that drop out their sophomore year were so loose and will to sleep with any man that had thugism/bad-boy character. The bad guys that they love so much are the ones that get locked up and go to jail and get turned out. All I can say is when women change their choice in men as well as how the value their body they'ed be a whole better.

    So many people have absolutely no idea what the effects of restricted access to resources (i.e. education, financial, nutritional foods, etc.) has. Specific experiences (i.e. advanced academic programs, healthy food education/options, educated parent(s)) is what creates productive citizens and thriving communities. When you know better you do better -but when you don't and you never had access to persons who do the results are usually not favorable.

    We can’t have sex that way.. lady tell your partnerzzzzzz that you have Houses in Virginia from minute one. That wasn’t even the question. Nasty ass work here.

    This was a warm and comprehensive discussion of the four ladies... I very much agree on strengthening self-empowerment and assertiveness especially in sexual contexts. But I disagree on poverty, poor condom negotiation, etc., playing that much of a role in the first place. This is not very specific for Blacks. Bisexuality, promiscuity, and incarceration exist in Whites too, but they don't seem to spread HIV to women. I can't help thinking that the cause is a fundamental biological difference...

      It has everything to do with blk men lying and sleeping with other men and not telling the women... They are on the panel coming up with every excuse to spare the depravity and degeneracy of blk males....

    and yall think as beautiful black women that sex is okay, and it is not. yall have proved that within yall selves, yall deserve better!! disease or not, love yourself, get to know you and love yourself. I had a cousin that passed away of this disease, and I saw her suffer because of this ignorance they call sex, bump that LOVE YOURSELF!

    Sounds like they are blaming women a lot... Instead of blaming these down low blk men... But it's typical for blk women to blame blk women...

    • @thestrangelifeofashleyrose7620
      @thestrangelifeofashleyrose7620 Год назад

      I agree with you. I understand that we as women can say no, but men should be held accountable, too. What about women who are in monogamous relationships and their boyfriend/husband cheats and infects them? It is easier for people to blame women because they say we have the power to choose and allow a man to have sex with us. One of the women did mention how women are very trusting of the men we get in relationships with. A friend of my cousin was with a man for almost a year before she found out he infected her with HIV. That man was locked up after that, and all his partners testified against him.

    at 20:00 "and this is from having sex?" hard to believe that the moderator would ask such stupid question, kids are having sex....as young as 11, 12 yrs. old ..the denial level of this group is incredible...where there is a high level of cases of HIV there is also a high level of PROMISCUITY, lack of morals, high level of crime, poverty, very low sense of self responsibility, and lack of information is just a tiny part of it, until these issues are addressed very little change is going to happen

    Does behaviour have anything to do with it? I am just wondering. But there are other sociopolitical issues and possibly targeting of ethnic groups. Very complex topic. Look at the evidence of “frontline states” I.e states that borders the South African country. Stigma? Education, education, education. No free easy sex. Wow, difficult situations.
