Once again you triumph and learn and teach. I love the story of the guy traveling all over the US in his 308. That is what they are made for. Seeing it covered in mud and snow is how cars were meant to be, what they were invented for, to give us a freedom unknown before them. I hope you will now enjoy a trouble free year with yours, driving it, playing with it, letting it take you places and not having to lie on your back underneath it.
It is such a pleasure to watch the Influenzo episodes even if there is a bit of struggle, which, I guess, makes it even more interesting. The 308 is so good-looking. Love your positive attitude and resilience in the face of continued challenges with the 308. Like you say, you learned a lot through these trials over the last year, as have all of us who have watched you these many months . Dont be disheartened. Because of you and another tuber, i picked up my own classic i am working on. I spent the day yesterday cleaning out 2 gallons of oil it puked up and i am thrilled i fixed it and will be driving it again.

4 years on and I am still rebuilding my Jaguar Daimler Double Six. You are doing far better. As the good Mr. J. Lano points out it does take more money than iq to subject ourselves to such experience. But I guess this is what defines a car enthusiast. I am glued to screen every week to see your progress.

Currently bingeing all the influenzo content at the moment and loving it. Your patience and attitude blows me away. FYI a bolt generally has a threaded portion and a shank. A completely threaded fixing is called a Set or set screw. Keep up the great content.

Bolts always have a plain portion as well as a thread, Screws are threaded all the way up the length to just under the head. I know this because I spent 45 years of my life in Aerospace production.
I think there are quite a few subscribers like me that would never have found your channel without the Influenzo, thank goodness we did! To an extent I would say it’s your duty as a RUclipsr to make questionable decisions and then film them for our entertainment! 😉 Whilst I would take a 328 (Thank you Beverley Hills Cop 2) over a 308 all day long your journey of perseverance over the past 11 months or so has been great to follow. Once it’s sorted hopefully you can keep it long enough to enjoy using it over a lockdown free summer👍😎
Exactly. I said the same to a lady in our Mini community just yesterday. She's spent a fortune fixing everything on her 2002 BMW Mini and now its head gasket has gone. She has been given a ridiculously high quote to get it done but could get it done elsewhere for maybe £400, pretty much the value of the car, but the way I see it is she is better off keeping the devil she knows, than getting rid of it and buying the devil she doesn't snd potentially having the same list of issues that she has fixed already on her current Mini.
Well done Jack with getting the head off, big achievement, I do welding and have never heard of laser welding before, going to check on RUclips, I can understand were you are coming from with the high of getting the head fixed and having to put it all back together again, but you and these videos are what make them addictive to watch, 👍👏👌👏👏.
Good work. Always try and avoid putting a cylinder head down on its head gasket face. The tiniest of surface scatches can cause sealing issues. Putting rubber or plastic bungs in the bolt holes is one option that means it will stand away from a flat surface if you put down head gasket face down.

I don't thing anyone should regret buying a vintage Ferrari; after all you only live once and not many people get the opportunity. Many of the issues you've faced you might well have faced even when buying a more expensive car; age takes its toll and you just never know if and how well maintenance has been done. To reduce the purchase risk you need to buy a car with lots of history and a limited number of different owners with long ownership spells. Flipping and cheapskate owners are the enemy. But what's great about these cars is just how much support and parts are available, even if it's often not cheap! I think you have done great by this car and I'm enjoying watching you sort it. When it's 'done', you should drive it to Italy!

Start tightening the bolts from the center out. When you start tightening set the torque wrench to 2/3 of the final torque. After that is done go back and set to final torque and finish.
You’re so right about spending more on a smarter car. Sometimes you just build a bond with a car when you work through the problems in a way you never would with a garage queen. I’m really enjoying your progress and can’t wait to see the resolution of the poor power delivery at high revs. My money’s on the distributor. Good luck.

Those bloody pyjama pants are hilarious Jack. Did you buy 50 pair in one enormous sale? The 308 has been a godsend for the channel. Absolute gift. Never ending source of interesting material.
I don't think we necessarily have to be OCD to worry about that missing nut. If you have worked on enough cars, you just know that anything you drop will magically find the most destructive location possible. Last season, while working on my Citroën 2CV, I dropped a small screwdriver in the engine bay. I searched and searched, under the car, in the underbelly pan, in the chassis legs, everywhere. Could not find it. Kept fretting, knowing that I would not dare to start the car if I had not found the screwdriver. Finally I grabbed a blindingly-bright work light, and shined it from every angle I could think of. That was when I caught a tiny glint, which wound up being from the edge of the tip of the screwdriver...... sitting blade up, in the bell housing, behind the flywheel! Another couple of tense minutes with a tiny magnet on a telescoping stick, and I could breathe again!
I give you the proper thumbs up doing this work in a dark cold garagebox, I have 200 square meters of garage, isolated and heated floor but.. the same problem. NO SPACE because it is filled with oldtimers and an oldtimer truck 👍😬😄
Very impressive! I never thought that there was enough clearance to get that front head off that way. I was wrong. Great determination and problem solving right there. Of course I'm still not lining up to try doing it that way myself ;-)

Setscrews are threaded all the way to the head & bolts have a shank. There is a bit more to it than that but that's the main thing to remember.

The lazer welding is amazing
