Thanks very much!! The only part that was a little confusing for me was when you were working with the recoil mechanism itself - was hard to see what you were doing at times. Otherwise incredibly helpful - took me longer than 40 mins because many of the screws/bolts were rusty and needed to sit with penetrating oil for some time. Thanks again!

I removed two screws on top handle, access panel one screw, four screws for front panel then you can split the handle apart a couple inches and fuel tank and electrical panel fold forward allowing access to the three 10mm hex bolts. I even had a full fuel tank. Replaced chord with 1/8” dyneema.

Great video! Saved my time money, and gave me more confidence to do it. Fixing costs 4$ I also use the trick with the heat shrink, it will save a lot of pain in the future. Service at my place wants to take Generator and promise to fix it in 3 weeks time while I use generator daily. 3 hours in my case due to few damaged screws unable to unscrew thanks to last services at Honda.

Thank you for the video. What have you replaced the fuel cap with? Is that to extend the duration on the fuel?

    • @mediajunkie2195

Philip Cerne - yes, cap is berg fuel system. You can make your own or buy a complete kit ready to run from northern. “Berg”.

Number 1, you do not need to pull off the feet. I saw 54 " for the recoil rope I think 6 to 12 inches more would be better.

There are bolts holding the side cover, behind the black lower skirt. At least 2 of them need removed, I believe.

Install a piece of heat shrink tube where the rope rubs on the recoil. You'll never have to do this. When and if the heat shrink wears just replace it.

I assume shrink with heat or use as covering? Do you have any pictures?

@@mediajunkie2195 I shrunk the tube over the rope with a heat gun on low, it's very tight against the rope. To start the generator I gently pull the rope past the cover and expose the heat shrink for clearance, then I pull hard to start. I started installing the heat shrink on my 2000i and 2800I over a year ago, about 200 HRS, the heat shrink is starting to show some minor wear. When the 2000i or 2200i start getting age the plastic behind the cover gets brittle and cracks. I now use the 2800I because of this problem and the time it takes to complete the rope repair on the 2000i.

@@rogershapiro9408 Okay, I think I understand. Just got done servicing them both and no frey'ed ropes at present. I have a spare in a bag on the boat just in case.

@@mediajunkie2195 Sounds good. You can install the heat shrink at anytime. Remove the handle and slide on the heat shrink. Reinstall the handle and mark the rope where it rubs on the recoil. Place the heat shrink tube on the mark then heat it up till the heat shrink is tight and doesn't move on the rope.

    Will you please fix mine?

The solution is to use a smaller cord and the problem goes away. I have had zero fray on mine after 3 yrs

Honda can’t figure out that all these ropes fray in the same exact spot and reinforce them?

Another commenter said to installed heat shrink on the recoil where it freys. He suggests we'll never have to replace again

Not enough light. It's very dark the area working on the gen.

You took WAY to much apart you only need to remove side cover 4 screws in front an d2 top handle screws.. tip front panel out after you unplug 3 plugs from there remove fuel tank and there is the recoil starter
