  • Today we will be troubleshooting a no-spark condition on this Honda EU2000i inverter generator. This was a complete restoration, during which it was discovered there was no spark. The standard troubleshooting steps were conducted to bring this specific problem to resolution.

    Very good video! helped me get a spark after 2 minutes. The only think I noticed, you closed the airbox cover before bolting the screw in the airbox into the block and than installed it only with the two nuts on the carburetor. Odd.

      The device at the time was in several states of disrepair as you'll see in the restoration video. Some footage was made as I was addressing only a specific issue at the time.

      @@delorean1 Again, very good informative video. It helped me diagnose no spark. Your other video helped me with a gooey carburetor. Thank you for sharing the knowledge!
      I have 3 of those generators. At a certain point I used them on my semi trucks to power portable air conditioners. This was when the new emission came out and idling a big diesel would clog a DPF. I built cages for them on the frame behind the cab and added an external aluminum fuel tank. I used it for about one summer before ditching the idea since those portable home AC were not designed for a vibrating vehicle and I went through several under warranty. Those gensets remained on the trucks for 2-3 years out of laziness before I removed them and stored at my storage. I just rebuild one (mainly plastic part, very bad fuel system, oil, plug and filter) and have no energy for the remaining two. Let me know if you're interested in buying them cheap.

    Great video. Have you run across this problem that I can't seem to fix with the many internet 'common problems' of the EU2000i. The ECO switch does not kick down the rpms. And the motor runs rough without achieving full rpms. In other words, turning the ECO switch 'on and off' does not change the rough rpms, however the switch is fine as tested with an ohm meter. Carb's cleaned, but I also replace with a Chinese knock off a couple years ago and was running fine. I still have the original. Yes, the generator has had its issues, with less than 500 hours. So much so I've replace it with an EU2200, but am still up for a challenge!

    This was an excellent video I'm currently working on a Ryobi 2200 don't know how a generated the signal for the spark that this is very very helpful your presentation and how you feel about the video with the exact information please specifically very very much appreciated I'm here in the US Virgin Islands and we are limited to the texts that are available for some of these items

    Hi my question to you is if the ignition coil reading on the primary is 0 will that cause the engine to just die and I couldn't restart no spark at the plug changed plug still northing so checked reading coil secondary is good but primary is 0 Oil sending switch checks oil. Thanks Rick

    Hello, would you know the Ohm spec of the Pulse Generator on a Honda EU1000I A2? I have a weak and intermittent spark. My PG ohms out at 30ohms. 270 less than your measurement on this EU2000I video. Looks like I am only making .25mv on a pull but not sure I was pulling my friend was watching the MV All wiring has good continuity. Ignition coil resistance in spec. With no way to check the module I am hoping the Pulse Gen Is NG. Thank you!

    How do you test throttle motor and eco switch? I bought a new carburetor and the plug is square not flat

    Did you torque the spark plug. I replaced mine and found it very different with the compression washer? Makes me wonder if it is tight enough?

      The compression washer is scary because you think you are stripping out the head, but eventually the torque will increase as it bottoms out.

    I have 2 identical EU2000i generators, I have a no spark condition on unit number 2. The coil measures 1.7 on the primary. I replaced it with a working one from unit 1 and still no spark. The pulse generator measures 340 ohms at the ignition module and at the 6 pin connector. And I get voltage with a pull on the cord. I swapped the ignition module into the working unit 1 and it works. Tested the oil switch and engine off switch. All work. Replaced the spark plug. No spark. All measurements at the ignition module read correct. Before I tear down to get to the pulse generator is there anything I can try? Thanks for your video.

    Anybody heard of one creating some pretty heavy duty sparks from the inner/plugs area?
    Mine 'sparked out' today and now the motor runs but no power to power points! 😕

    When I try to turn the eco button on nothing happens. I replaced the eco switch but still the eco mode doesn't work. Do you know what could be the problem?

      Check your "Throttle control motor"... sitting under the white plastic case on top of the carburetor...

    What can cause no pulse at the fuel pump?
    I do have good engine compression

      That hose to the pump could be broken or not correctly fitted to the engine./
