I sthe new one v10 from taiwan? Or is it stil from japan?. I just got one website showed it as the japanese on but its the vg 10 from taiwan. Im very happy with it so far woulda bought it had i known anyway it was a good price fit and fi ish is great 0 issues i can see grinds are even no blemishes . Just wondering
Although 3v isn’t classed as stainless it’s pretty rust resistant, I have several 3v knives and they don’t have any signs of rust or patina on any of them. I wouldn’t take them scuba diving , but I think 3v’s tendency to rust is far overstated.
I have all three versions as well, and the Japanese VG1 trailmaster made by Hattori is by far my favorite. The fit and finish is better, the weight distribution is more appropriate for chopping, and it's an actual full convex (the Taiwanese version is more of a flat grind with a convex edge). Im sad to see these lesser VG1 TMs from Taiwan taking place of the Hattori version.
If you want a similar one as the Hattori, the closest you will be able to get is the Falkniven modern Bowie. Exactly the same beautiful blade, full convex but and with an even better steel, Cos. Only downside “very expensive”. I have the Taiwan version but was also disappointed with the grind so I did buy the Falkniven one to have the same beautiful blade as the Japanese trailmaster. The Dbk boys think they were made in the same factory. Anyway the falkniven is the better version of them with better center steel and edge retention. Check out the Dbk knives video falkniven modern bowie versus Cs trail master (the Hattori one)
@@thermaltoyzngear3310why if I may ask, as I do not have it I cannot compare? But that is the point I am trying to make actually, because of that my only option is the Falkniven mb.
Question : how is the grind on both side : is it uneaven like you can see a very noticiable difference on the edge ? Cause mine is just horrible : one side is clean and the lamination is about 1/8 of an inch close to the edge but the other side is almost 1/4 inch away from the edge !
The San Mai III comes in a convex grind, the 3V Version comes in a full flat grind with a secondary V edge

3v is a full flat grind with secondary bevel. I have a recon scout in 3v that I turned into convex..and is better now,
Cool Trailmaster survival Bowie knives and you can't go wrong with having a extra good chopper. 💯

It's a shame Hattori isn't making them anymore.

@nicolaasvoois2311 I have two of those as well and I still prefer the Japanese VG1 trailmaster.

I’m considering one there pretty expensive here in Canada I’m wondering how hard is the vg1 to sharpen by hand?
@@serpentbeyondthehedge6520 you'll never be able to sharpen it free handed. It'll need a jig
@@theotherguy3083
So you need like a vet sander to sharpen it ?
@serpentbeyondthehedge6520 probably a belt sander with fine grit
Thanks I don’t know if it’s for me if I can’t hand sharpen it.
@serpentbeyondthehedge6520 I forgot. You can send this knife back to cold steel to get it resharpened for free
How they prevence that the guard gonna rattle?
How is that guard secured?
Nice video!
Thanks!
No clue. So far no rattle at all

Thanks!
@@sergeantdef.3572 it's such a nice knife. I am sure there are better knives out there, but these are the nicest knives that I have for my budget.
@@theotherguy3083
Cpm 3v i orded.
@@sergeantdef.3572 you'll like the knife
Nice comparison, you should compare nachez vs laredo
You have your grinds wrong. The San Mai III is a concave grind and the 3V is a flat grind.
I believe it's a scandi grind. excuse my spelling
