Truly awesome knife. I have several and this one is the best of them all. Not cheap.....but Japanese made excellence. If I could only take one knife, it would be this one.
That brought back memories. Had and old carbonV version way back in the late 80’s. Finally retired that one for the 01 steel version some ten plus years ago. Does your San Mai blade have a sharpened swedge? If I was pulling on my new one like you did it would have cut the crap out of me...
That´s nice. The Carbon V was made in the US as well i think. The swedge is ground, but does not have an actual edge, but it wouldn´t take much for you to make it cut. I guess that´s the fighting knife aspect that Cold Steel tries to embrace. For me it´s fine but pushing with your thumb on the swedge when carving with the tip would hurt for sure.
I just bought a 2nd CS TS San Mai III that I plan on giving to a family member soon. Teaching them the outdoor life but not ready to own this yet, just came upon a great deal. Not sure I'd give my 1st to anyone as I feel this knife has proven itself to me for so long, why would it fail in the future? I've had my original maybe 13-15 years now? It's held up fine and I've abused the crap out of it, splitting logs 4"+ , shave tree/branch, smaller wood shaving and has required very little maintenance. I usually carry this knife, a folding bow saw and a small folder (mainly for food) takes care of everything when camping. I've heard the quality control has gone done over the years, mainly with the heat treating. So I was sort of skeptical at 1st, but pulled the trigger. The one I received a few weeks ago was perfect in all ways, excellent San Mai taco and razor sharp, shaved hair easy (could be made a tad shaper tho easy). I tested this new one on some logs splitting and held the edge fine, no issue at all so far. Have not owned it long but will see if it's just as good as the older ones. Maybe it is the USA knives with the issues these are made in Japan? Either way its a beast of a knife glad to see someone else use theirs as they were intended, it should last you years!
Just ordered one…..cannot wait

Really awesome video on this blade ! Just awesome… best one I have seen on RUclips honestly
Awesome video! I hate that they didn't give the 3V version a convex edge.

Phenomenal Blade by Cold Steel it's a multi purpose knife for the survival game of life 🎯😎🎯
Cool! Nice to see someone use a San Mai III Trailmaster for what it's meant to be used for. How did the edge hold up? Any chipping?
No chips, cleanly goes threw paper still.
@@megaronknives3032 Good to know, thanks

Does this come with a convex grind or standard flat?
In San Mai it´s convexed and in A2 /O1 it´s flat
