I bought a viking sword from Cold Steel directly ($299) and found out later I could've gotten a Cold Steel Viking sword for $100 cheaper from a any other website. Lesson learned. ALWAYS CHECK DIFFERENT SOURCES. The direct source is sometimes the most expensive.
Excellent video Mike! And thanks "again"... I was on the fence between the Trail master and The Scout and after watching your comparison, I'm choosing the Trail master when pulling the trigger! The "pro's" you pointed out it more than convicted me!!!
A all around Bowie that can do it all ,but I like the Trail Master especially for a defense knife ,I have one in O 1 Tool Steel , and I'm thinking of the Upgrade to 3V blade steel because I like the blade design style so much. 😊
Sounds like you've narrowed it down to the Laredo versus the Trailmaster unless there's some others in contention for your favorite martial knife therefore you must do a challenge to pick maybe your best one maybe have the two size categories or something I don't know enjoy your content I love my big knifes, and me swords. I hope to God none of us ever has to😢 fight with one!
I love these knives, but I also have a scrapyard knives alpha regulator. It looks like a behemoth version of these, a work of art. That being said, I’m an immense fan of cold steel knife and I’ve never seen or held one I didn’t love.
Awesome knives. You will never be wrong with a Trail Master or Recon Scout. I sold my Trail Master in CPM3V after i revieved the San Mai version. Much better craftmanship (Japan) and the convex gives it an incredible performance (iam usualy not a fan of convex blades)
I have the Trail mater in san mai and find it’s awesome for wood processing ( chopping and batoning) but the blade is very chippy so you have to be careful not to hit the ground, it’s easy to sharpen and came scary sharp straight out of the box, I do not like the sheath though it seems cheap.
LOL yeah, I figured as much on a comparison of those two. But you kinda compared the Rifleman to 1917 already. And I don't have much interest in the cable tang that the Natchez has.
None of the three knives mentioned would be my choice for a true survival knife because of the hidden tang. The recon scout is known to break at the blade tang junction, and I would imagine the other two would also
All the fixed blades I own are Cold Steel. Used to be Gerber, as they have some very good ones lately and blade its self passed all abuse tests without even beake or a bend. There is so many out there and difdicult to choose, and these custom makers have their stuff oriced way to high..Cold Steel is fairly priced for quality you get,Some are Taiwan and Japan made even Chinese ones like my new mini tac bowie is razor sharp out of box wirh excellent carry sheet with retention that is absolutely superb. I could not shake that thing out of the carrier. Look that one up. It's supposed to be nexk knife but blade is large enough for much more.
@@michaelrizzo5523Those are Lf and JD knives - I have written a longer explanation WHY but for some reasons this text is ... missing ... ? Perhaps the YT "one and only right ideology Committee did not like what I have written and got rid of the entire text ... ? Cutting it short these two knives are everything what a modern, large knife should be for virtually every task. The only thing I would change is: flat not hollow grind esp. on LF and second hoe in the handle of JD plus a bit higher, flat grind too.
one of the best reviewer out there
Thanks!

Yup, CS MSRP is outrageous. These are going for over $500 each there.

I think you'll like it
I have the trail master in both 3v and San mai, and recon scout in 3v and SK5. Both awesome!

I was looking at the Laredo till I learned they have a spring tang. in hard use the handle breaks. you will see many videos on youtube

Honestly it's preference, because both knives are awesome imo. I have the Recon Scout in CPM3V and i love it.

Big fan of CPM3V
My fav at this point
Thank you for the review, as always! But Mike, you just HAVE TO check out Boker Arbolito El Gigante Ebony
Heck yeah Mike! Keep them coming!!!!
Thanks!
Like to hear/see your thoughts on Cold Steel OG the Master Tanto, Magnum Tanto's, Tai Pan.?
Great in-depth review as usual! And would love to see more side by side comparisons. Maybe the Cold Steel Rifleman vs Laredo?
Rifleman vs Natchez or 1917 would be closer weight-wise, though the Rifleman is 5oz heavier than both. It'd be knife vs sharpened wrecking bar.

I think they fixed the stress riser issues that broke the early models. But there's always the BK7 and BK9.
Thank you for another great review as usual 😊 does the securex sheath dull the knife on that one? It tends to do it on some of my cold steel knives 🫣
Not as bad as others, but I try to be careful not to rub the edge against the shaeth

Used to be a big Gerber fan myself
Ordered one from Amazon, a trailmaster in CMP that is, it was cockeyed on every edge. :(
I've noticed their grinds are very inconsistent
@@michaelrizzo5523 Darn shame. I'm eyeballing a modern bowie after that cold steel experience.
Are you a Paul harrel fan?
Absolutely. R.I.P. Mr. Harrel.
It's fantasy must not be in the US there's no knife fighting here.
There's really no gun fighting here either
Cold Steel still has two far better knives in regard to camp/combat applications (...) and they cost nearly 10x less then those made from 3V
Don't keep me in suspense! What are your top choices?
