Takes a while to realize the folly of big motorhomes. Parents lived in fifth wheel and motorhome for 12 years. the cost of ownership is far greater than one is lead to believe. If you spend most of the year in 1 place it's not too bad, but staying at RV parks on the way can be expensive, not to mention the 7-10 mpg. Breakdowns are fairly common and expensive as heck.
@@williamlewis7846 all to take your closet with you
“I consider that the sufferings of this present life are not worthy to be compared to the glory which will be revealed in us.”
Romans 8:18
I admire Jimmy's cool head while stuff goes sideways, I would literally lose my shite if every minute of my family vacation was full of fixing broken stuff. Hat's off to a very chill guy....
Me to, I would use my whole vocabulary of swear words, multiple times. 🤷♂️
Oh, I’m sure he does. He just doesn’t show it on RUclips.
Well he's making a ton of money on these videos. I would keep a cool head too. Lol 😂
Don't ever buy a RV then.
The bigger the bank account, the less impact mechanical problems cause.
Jimmy, the best part of this video (beside the airplane content) is you explaining your family values: Faith, Family, Fun, Adventure. The world would be a much better place if people modeled that. I know that one's close to you, but it's got all the hallmarks of a great t-shirt.
We have been vacation RVers for 30 years and constantly fixing things is part of the experience even on newer units. But as one RVer told me you basically have a house that lives in 80mph winds and constant earthquakes whenever your moving. 😆
.
Hey, slow down a bit😂
I’ve always live by the rule that when pulling my 46’ toy hauler that when in motion, no matter the speed the inside it’s a continuous earthquake equivalent to a 5.0 or greater on the Richter scale. Next time I get a load down your way(I’m an OTR driver😮)I’d like to meet up with you as I’m trying to get back into the air. Maybe I can
give some insight on RVs.
Someone finish this: “ gloom, despair, and agony on me deep dark depression, excessive misery…” great job to Jimmy and family! Perfect role model for the kids, keeping a cool head and explaining your awesome family values! Hats off!
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all!
Jimmy, I am the pastor of a small church and can speak from experience. There has not been a family vacation that we took that we did not either have vehicle issues, Hotel issues, or sick kiddos. But I would not have changed it for anything. Enjoy the family time and show those kids your faith in action.
For the fridge take the outside panel off and there should be a black cup probably full of water. That's the defrost cup that the tray under the coil inside empties into. There is a white pipe in the cup. Pull it out, there is a cap with 2 holes that is likely plugged. Clean the holes and drain the cup.
It might also be the ice maker supply line that runs from under the sink through the outside area.
With slide outs, I would say that you fitted a new one, then refitted the old one and it worked. Sounds to me like it’s the connectors that were the problem, as disconnecting them, reconnecting them then doing it again, you’ve cleaned the connectors.
Want to thank you and Grizz for bringing the Elvis Jet/ Motorhome to Oshkosh. It was great to walk back in time. Thanks for leaving the interior as it was. Great to meet you and your staff. Keep the video's coming. Can't wait to see what you come up with next year for Oshkosh?
Vernon Presley’s Jet, not Elvis.
Spread the word!!!
Having watched my Father captain many a road trip, I can be sure that Jimmy has the mental fortitude of a Navy SEAL and the zen of a Buddhist monk.
After 11 years living in a top of the line (at the time) travel trailer, buy them expecting to completly replace wverythibg within 7 years, even with constant use, elminating all non important elements will make life alot simpler and cheaper. Sometimes doing without is the smarter way.. keep up the great work. Stay safe everyone
The rooftop a/c that I just replaced on my TT made it 8yrs and 4 months so that $1,250 item was on borrowed time.
I'm very glad that Jimmy has shown me I will never have the need to own an RV. I have enough problems keeping up with things that break in my home, boat, and motorcycles
Haha! This is kinda my life in retirement!!! Work on a few projects every day, then take a break watching RUclips videos!!! Walk the dogs and fix a dinner!!! Life goes on.
I have always been a pretty good judge of character. I can honestly say you are one Jimmy! LOL Also, a really good guy, an outstanding father, and I'm happy to say, a great fellow American! RV's were created to test our strength, endurance and mental fortitude under pressure. You passed the test! Congrats!! Peace --gary
Thanks Jimmy Sky King. This video confirmed the decision I made a few years back when I purchased a class A was kinda right. No slides no levelers nothing fancy smancy and I 'm still running around fixing, fixing, fixing and fixing. Welcome home...
...owning a Class A is a ownership commitment to a constant state of fixing. My 21 year old Country Coach...I love her... but damn she can be ornery!
I was halfway done eating a sandwich when Jimmy started draining the black water tank. Lucky me 😂
25:49 "...and just now discovered this as a game changer." The little side panel thingy on the chair. It just pops off and it comes with a little dude that can reach stuff!
Next time you are in Michigan I would recommend that you go to Greenfield village and the FORD museum. Love Michigan!
Please tell me they have an Edsel?
@@johnnunn8688 yes they do.
Glad you and the family had a safe, and sometimes fun adventure.
I get excited when I see you’ve got a new post! Just can’t wait too see what happens next.
I feel honored that the great Jimmy's World was within 13 minutes of my home when you visited Sauders!
Hey Jimmy (and family), I love the 'dad mode' hat. I've been following you for about a year. This is the first comment. 1) I love all you do, and as a veteran, I appreciate everything you do for us vets. Thanks for all of the efforts you, your family, and Griz put into the videos. The R.V. is trying to teach you patience (actually, 11:11 it's God's way of teaching patience). Remember, we love everything all of you guys do. Thanks from a veteran who would love to get his pilots license and fly veterans around.
Jimmy, here is a good thing to use. First, a bit of background. I worked in the ozone business from 2002 through 2016. Ozone gas can be generated and applied to multiple areas to remove smells, oxidize then destroy living pathogens, treat hot tub water, used in Olympic swimming pools, and can be injected into water where it can be used as CIP (clean in place) food equipment cleaning applications. There are major worldwide corporations using CIP to spray food processing equipment in-situ while food is being processed. The ozone in water cleans, treats, and antimicrobially treats the equipment. Once treated, the ozone gas is inert and is GRAS (generally recognized as safe to use) meaning there are no deadly byproducts. It also is used to remove cigarette smells and fire/smoke smells. Blah Blah Blah. I am not selling anything. You could buy a portable ozone generator and remove bad odor smells, mold, mildew and any other micro organisms in your trailer/motorhome. It's not snake oil and it does work! So, I love your channel and the Elvis Jet. Have you heard anything from Priscilla? Or was she hoping you to really get it flying?
Agree about the Ozone, I use it extensively in my business.
Well, I honestly have to say...Now I know I'm not the only one to have crazy stuff happen in our RV every time we go out. Thanks for making me feel better. But Jimmy, kudos to you brother for holding it all together. Thanks for the video.
We did fulltime RV'n in 5 different 5thwheels and 4 different tow vehicles for about 22 years. Always entertaining.... often expensive but did see lots of places from coast and border to border.... I think you will enjoy the Golden Eagle much more.... it's just a different view.... with different problems..... but.... "what could possibly go wrong"..... lol 😅
Thanks again for taking us along.... bob
You get a thumbs up for utterly convincing me to never, ever, get an RV. A Bonanza and hotels will remain our mode of travel.
You should reach out the RV expert guy who run a RUclips channel “AZ Expert”. He have knowledge on everything RV related and maybe both you can make a RUclips content together repairing your RV. I like his channel and he is real good explaining the inner working of RV on his channel. At least your family look like they had great vacation still! Keep making those planes video! I enjoyed it all. I am deaf but many in my family are pilots and my das is a retired air traffic controller. He’s a big Elvis fan too.
Eh? (Sorry 🤣😂)
Fun fact, I have ridden a bicycle across the Mackinaw bridge twice.
Jimmy, take some conciliation that there are many new RVs that give the same problems from factory, and even spending up to a Million dollars doesn't mean they are fit for purpose, your 19 year old RV is probably built with more care and better materials and craftsman who cared.
I know as frustrating it is , fixing things is good for you,it might get done right and you learn how things work just like the planes.
Chin up, clear thinking as you do when flying.
Thanks for taking us with you
Cheers
Enjoyed you not losing your mind!! Very enjoyable content, great father, role model, and husband. Your family is amazing as well!! Enjoy the good times together, time marches on way too quickly
Your black water faux pas is like your last second realization that you are going to land short but you save it !
YOU DO IT ONLY ONCE !!!!!!
Say what you will, but I guarantee the best memories of your life will be the trips in the RV. Trust me.
Hi Jimmy. My nephew met you in Oshkosh. Nick was there with a group from Western Michigan. Nick knew I was a fan of you and your channel and got an autographed card from you for me. Just wanted to say thanks and keep up the great work. Dan
Man, I would have disconnected that awful buzzer the first time I realized it wouldn't stop on its own... amazing what some people will put up with or get use to. As always, enjoy your videos and your tenacity!
Love your family core values!
I am from Rhinelander, WI. I am glad that you were able to take a little vacation while you were here. I am so sorry that I was not able to go see you when you were here. My legs do not work so well and I would not be able to do all that walking. I am a Air Force veteran, 1984-1990. I am glad that you had a good time at the air show. I am so sorry that the RV gave so much grief. None the less I am glad that you made it home safe. I used to make metal sculptures and I had two dinosaurs in Pensacola. My niece is married to a Air Force guy and is stationed in Florida. Thanks for the video. You are always interesting!!!!!!
It's F.I.N.E yep fine....
Glad your here jimmy, this way when i get ideas like you.
you do them first and i can avoid the pain.
thank you
Jimmy, My wife and I live in Michigan and Mackinac Island is one of our favorite vacation destinations. It's especially nice in the fall due to the seasonal tree color changes. All the best!
Hey Jimmy can really relate to your RV experiences having lived full time in a 2005 Newmar Kountry Star for the better part of 19 years ....didn't do that much recrewational travel as it was mostly a 2nd residence that I used for my IT consulting business in Virginia....primary home is Melbourne Fla....did make a lot of wonderful family memories though with grandkids....and as you have experienced there is always something to tweak or fix on a rig like that. Gave it all up this year and shut down the consulting business and the motorhome went on to a new loving home....a traveling nurse whose husband has the skills needed to keep up with all the things that need to be attended to. Your content is awesome...keep[ it up.
You gotta get LED’s…. I don’t even consider any other type of headlight bulb now.
Fastest way to go broke? Buy an airplane. 2nd fastest way? Buy an RV. Brokeness? Check! Always enjoy your content Jimmy, in spite of the tribulations you encounter. Looking forward to seeing you fly the new plane!
Add a boat in there as well! Lol😅
Spending time with the family away from home is worth whatever it is that you have to put up with. It can be taxing sometimes, but when you look into the eyes of your family during an outing, it makes it a lot easier to take the tough times. Everyone got home safe, and that is the big picture.
Jimmy, you're wife has the patience of a saint!
Yeah dood! You’re saying it right! Mack-n-aw.
My family is from Michigan and we spent a week on the island ages ago. The island is famous for their fudge and the grand hotel too. Definitely worth it to rent some bikes and ride around the coastline!
Another great adventure! Thx for sharing!
Another fine holiday for ya'll......glad ya'z made it back safe~!
Absolutely love your channel Jimmy, would like to hear more about your military experiences, I am a vet. (Army) and enjoy hearing stories of other Vets experiences while in the service…
My brother installed vortex generators on the rear of his RV. They reduce the low pressure area out back, increasing fuel efficiency and stability on interstate highways around big trucks. My brother says the difference is amazing.
How does that work, how do they operate. (Thick Brit here.)
@@johnnunn8688 they split the airflow into lines of high and low pressure. The high pressure lines are allowed to flow into the low pressure area at the back of the vehicle. Just like they allow airflow to stay attached to the trailing edge of an airplane wing when it approaches a stall. Brits are not thick. They have generally been on the right side of history lately.
@@Ronzola1 thanks for answering. I managed to find a film on the installation and effect. I’m not really thick, in fact I was an aircraft engineer, which is why I am interested in these things. 👍
Jimmy, you and your family are so much fun to watch. You have so much patience with the trip back home with the motorhome I feel for you brother. I think about this at the same time my wife and I are super happy we don’t have kids so we miss all those fun experiences with the family. God bless you man great videos Rick Musk PS You definitely look like Jim Carrey you act like them, and make it very entertaining🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Jimmy, all you need now is a boat! A perfect trifecta of money holes. We also have a 2006 Class A motor home. Always something needing to be done. Always.
Airplane - AMU (Aviation Monetary Units) generally in $1K denominations
RV - RVMU (RV Monetary Units) generally in $100 denominations
Boat - MMU (Marine Monetary Units) generally a mix of RVMUs and AMUs.
Jimmy, when you get that 421 going I propose a midwest/east coast loop.
A route something like: Home-> Oshkosh->Macinac-> Sault Ste Marie (Canadian customs)-> Manitoulin/flowerpot Islands-> Hamilton (great aviation museum)-> Niagara Falls (from the Canadian side, better view, more to do, lots of festivals first weekend of August)->Buffalo (US Customs) ->DC-> Kitty Hawk -> Home.
I even volunteer to be your guide for the Hamilton/Niagara Falls leg.
Hey Jimmy. I do love the RV videos as much as the plane videos as we're living through the same experiences with our vintage RV (same brand as yours). It's funny because we have had the same issues as you including the bolts on the slide motor. I caught wind of the problem when we first acquired the bus and I was able to retighten the bolts before the casing broke. Just finished replacing the wiper motor and that was an experience. I love how you stay positive and remind us all how we live through these experiences for family.
Mackinah..... is absolutely correct. Thx for not butchering the name. Love your videos.
LOVE the Mackinaw Bridge, Island and UP!
Next time you are in the UP, check out Tahquamenon Falls, Kitch-iti-kipi and Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine mountains.
That drawer does come off. There are 2 black little levers to lift up on the tracks, then pull drawer off sliders
Just passed you getting off the interstate, welcome home!!
This is the best Wyndham Hotels video there has ever been made!!
Ha! That looks like all the tourists arriving for summer at Amity island on Jaws! lol!
Great video Jimmy!👍🏴🇺🇸❤️
If you want to go to a truly quiet private island go to Cumberland Island off the Georgia coast, by boat only, you can rent a bicycle or walk, bring MRE’s and water. Gorgeous island on the ocean with Wild horses running around!
They do offer a van tour with lunch but was expensive and looked like seasoned citizens.
Jimmy I feel your pain. We full timed RV'ed for 11 years. We would spend 8 months in the RV on the mainland and transition to our 42 foot sailboat in HI for 4 months. If you think trying to keep a 40 foot Class A is a pain try doing it with a Volvo 770 a 40 Foot Newmar 5th wheel with a smart car mounted between the tractor cab and the 5th wheel. Now I will say if you are going to have a 42 foot sailboat in HI then you better have a son that lives in HI who loves to sail and will maintain your sailboat (of course with access to your checking account) for the pleasure of using it for 8 months of the year free. We have had 3 Newmar products 2 40 foot 5th wheels and 1 40 foot Class A. Generally very dependable.
I rented two different class C RV’s for a week at a time and had zero problems, except one broken Tire valve extension.
No storage fees, no year round insurance or license fees. No maintenance. Renting is the way to go.
Glad you made it to Mackinac with your family. Been there twice. Love, it also rode that bridge on my goldwing.
My neck of the woods glad to see your fam had a good time exploring
You were in Effingham, IL. On the other side of those trucks is chasers Bar and Grill! I've stayed there a number of times
It has been a long time since I jumped at Canyon Falls. Surprised to see you visited my area.
What a great family adventure.
Always keep your old parts Jim.never know when you need.them.
Thank you for showing the truth and proving live isn't easy and makes it normal!
“Jimmy’s “Leaky” World!” 😂 Okay, made it to the end of the video, and I am thrilled that ya’ll made it home safely! Love your vids, whether they are of planes or RV living. I hope you have the new plane in a separate video!
You need the lil blue adapter to go on top of the r134 cans and on the bottom of the AC filler, the cans have a check valve in em now instead of a puncture fitting like a CO2 cartridge. Somebody prolly said this already lol.
How bout that surprise jet flight Grizzly 😂 that was schaweeet. TAS 421 vid l8r? ✌️✌️
Good morning from Minnesota! Great episode!
It would be amazing to have a rv the size. my wife, our 2 dogs, and I live in a 30-foot bumper pull full-time working on the road, and our roof just started leaking, and our ac stopped last summer in south Texas.. Definitely makes life interesting
How cool you took the family north to Mackinac Island from Oshkosh! I've often thought of adding a second week to spend in the U.P. Owning a motorhome means you are constantly repairing, something or worrying about a list of items you hope wont break. They can leave you longing for the simplicity of a tent.
The turbulence indicator device is awesome! I'm sure it will be a great navigational aid.
Halogen headlight bulb is a halogen headlight bulb. If you want greater brightness, then either HID (high intensity discharge) bulbs, which have a shorter lifespan than most other types of bulbs, or LED, which have lower current draw, longer life than, and are brighter than other types of bulbs.
Hmmmmm, RV life, so glad I never bought one.
Jimmy, You are not going to believe it but I started watching this video and I am wearing my Mackinac Bridge T shirt. I thought "Get outta here, no way! Jimmy is taking his family to Mackinac Island "
Had a good laugh watching the efforts to recover the cell phone behind the couch. All slide drawers can be pulled all the way out. If it's not the simple kind where you pull them out all the way, and then lift up and pull some more, there are little spring-loaded latch pieces on both the left and right side rails so when you get the drawer out all the way you have to push those down and then they will slide out the rest of the way. All of the slot machines I maintain have those obnoxious little latches LOL. What a beautiful adventure, thank you for sharing it all! Still want to come meet you over and plant city 1 of these days.
It’s funny that the DIY Elvis jet/RV chassis retro is just fine but this commercial motorhome is having so many issues!
Hey Jimmy, get rid of those halogens bulbs, they are outdated. Copy and paste -> 4pcs 9007 LED headlight bulb in any of your favorite shopping sites and you'll see what's available. You'll be able to install the LED bulbs into your existing lights and you'll be happy you did! Make sure to re-adjust your beams, for optimum distance coverage.
I feel for ya Jimmy. I bought a brand new 2024 fifth wheel in May. I live in it full-time and it does not move. And already a few days ago, my nice full-sized refrigerator turned into a freezer. And it's probably going to be some sensor or control board and not something I can fix. Yeeeeehaaaa!
When my family had an rv, the bathroom was off limits and never used because it lowers value and raised the risk of things going bad. We would always use gas stations or camp site bathrooms.
You need some super powerful landing lights on top of the Elvis jet.
If you get the chance, stay at The Grand Hotel
Ah man your pain keeps me laughing and praying 🙏 hang in there great videos. I’m wearing a clear prop shirt right now 😂
As always.. excellent 🚁🚁🚁
The Elvis jet headlights need a relay kit installed so the switch is connected to the relays which connect the lights directly to the battery.
Jimmy it's cold maintenance all of the slide outs need to be lubricant and check for broken or cracks and all bolts and screws are tightened the best thing is when you do get home make up a check list that needs to be done when you're traveling you should go through that list every week. On the engine of the motorhome and the generator every time before you start them you need to check all of the fluids. Doing these things will make your trip more enjoyable. A idea if you get a laminator i got mine from HF Tools you can make reminders with a hole punch you can hang up the remainders so you don't have 💩 tools lol. If i new you was coming threw Michigan i would have said hi or just waved my head to say HI and yes you need to come back to Michigan some time i hope you did try some fudge when you was over on the Island.
Jimmy, you have a lovely family and you are proper father. Fewer fathers talk to their children nowadays or take them on adventures. 👍
7:34 Your World is becoming, WATER! I cant say exactly, because it’s trademarked.
I feel your pain. we all have made that tank flush error. mine was the shower. A friend stopped by and while we were talking I noticed water running out the front door. No better time to clean the carpet I guess. When your handed lemons just make some lemonade. Ac issue is often a capacitor 20 bucks and a little of your expertise and its fixed. Dash air still low on freon.
It’s 20 years old. I have a 2003 and it has its little issues but it runs and drives great. I see so many stories of new motorhomes have major problems and I feel pretty about ours! If the chassis is good you can sort out the issues, devil you know vs the devil you don’t
Osram daylight bulbs are great. Plus you could add bright running lights under your headlights for more.
Would love those problems brother ever since lost our youngest son me and my wife feel suck just so unhappy since accident God bless you brother so blessed
Bro the kid crying made me lol 😂😂
I peeked in the Camping World service area and asked a mechanic what most of the problems were. He said, "Slides. We make a ton of money fixing those." I'm so happy with my no slide moho.
You can also get to Mackinac Island by snowmobile depending on the ice in the winter.
Flying yourself is NEVER cheaper. That's what you call a DIMINISHING return, Jimmy. More fun? Definitely. Cheaper? No, lol
Sauder Village is pretty cool. But the Sauder company also has a factory basically making the American version of IKEA Furntiure. They have an outlet store out front. My bedroom set came from there. 😝
So cool you were just down the road 20 minutes from us.
Hi all. My R.V is a Talbot Express Talisman. It's a mear 16ft Length. It's Also, 32yr Old, so, I feel your Pain, Every time I Drive it. Good luck with Yours. Cheers from Jeff.
As a long time RV'er, I can truthfully say that slide out rooms are the best/worst thing that ever happened to RV's.
Mackin-Aw is how you pronounce it. With these family trips remember the words of Erma Bombeck 'the ties that bind and gag'...
