Had three, two 1200s and a 1250 GSA, all great bikes but being a ageing shortie I struggled with the height and the weight at slow speeds and the very clunky gearbox. Moved to a lovely low and light Multi V2S but as they’ve addressed my gripes I’m certainly testing one of these next time, and I love the new modern looks. The Triple Black for me but I’d like it in red😉😂
For those that worry about this sort of thing (me!) it looks like a the low seat option brings the ride height to 820mm (from 850mm) and the option of adaptive ride height control shaves another 30mm to give a final 790mm as you come to a halt.
If you need more than that, go for the RT with the low seat in the low position which brings you down to 760mm.
@@thelonewolf666I take it fat fingers caused you to write summit nonsensical? Assuming you meant "... big bikes" you're still spouting bollocks 😂
Great first road test. I sat on that very bike and it dissipated many of my 'not so sure' first impressions. All that is left for me to do is take it out for test ride. A great stable mate for R1200c 😎
I wish BMW made more of an effort to hide the radar sensors, the rear one is as subtle as a breeze block and the front one just looks silly. Otherwise I'm sure its an ok bike. Great review 🖖
That flyer fellow from Great Missenden is gonna be jealous.....😂
Hes green! 😆👍
@@LambChopRides I was thinking to myself towards the end of the video Andy would make a guest appearance 😉. Hopefully you two can do a couple cameos like on the Tiger 1200 videos again, that was great.
You’re right there!!! ….and I thought Bahnstormer were my pals…..they’re off the Christmas card list!!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer when are you releasing your review?
Just as soon as I can find someone willing to lend me a bike!
Well done, first impressions video about this BMW novelty!
I had the same impressions when I tested it two days ago. The bike feels somehow different from the prior iteration. The engine is much more responsive to the throttle, even in road mode. The bike feels smaller but in a good way. So, I’m glad about the changes BMW made.
I’m curious to meet the GSA version. That, I will look at with much more attention. Cheers!
✌️✌️
I have a 1250. Looking forward to seeing your 200-300 mile ride review, comparing it to the comfort of the 1250.......
I’ve sat on one felt small in comparison to the old model but many like me have wanted it to be lighter. I own a 2020 gsa and I plan to keep it another 3 years. I’ve had it from new and I’ve no complaints but I think the new one when we get used to the looks will be a winner. Great review chops I’ve just brought a s1000r from Bahnstormer that’s another reason to keep the big boy. 😊
Thanks for the nice review. I think it looks a lot like my new Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro, which has a very smooth gearbox and fantastic smooth quickshifter. Wind protection on the BMW seems a lot better, but I'm still very happy with my bike. I might consider a new GS in the future though. I really love the looks and the reviews are positive so far. For what I've seen, I think it's easier to put the GS on the center stand for smaller people. I can't do that with the Tiger 😅 I really believe there will be many more women in the market for this bike and BMW knows that.
Nice one Chops, great review as normal. Just been on the configurator and with all the needed options got it too £21,650 so for this type of bike with all the tech etc. its not a bad price.
Hope I don't need as many options as you as the base price is temping. Those options do add up fast. I went for a dynamic pack and comfort pack last time. I love the extras but hate paying for them. My current car is a titanium-x and if I ever change I'm not sure if I can come down to a basic model again.
I know the feeling. After selling my Rolls Royce earlier this year I have struggled with just my Subaru.@@chrishart8548
The blind spot detection system should be fitted to all bikes where possible.
If you're too lazy to do a life saver, I agree 😂
I have the new Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer, which has the blind spot system. It has saved my bacon several times and I agree with you. Adaptive cruise control is another story..
Great initial impression video, Chopsy, when you do your longer tour on the bike I'd love to see a review of what it's like for a pillion over distance too. My wife & I tour around a lot & this bike would be a serious contender for us if the passenger comfort is there.
Great review but I see some negatives on this bike.
1 blob of plastic on the front which is the radar!
2 no rear brake light - safety issue for me I’m afraid & I’m surprised that the government has allowed this.
3 those plastic spaniels ears. Looks like they could have designed that better
4 no back lights on the buttons
5 was there a real need to move/ replace the keyless button and place it on the throttle side in lieu of the heated grips button?
6 those caps on the central locking points for the luggage, vibrations will have them off sooner than you think.
7 the current vario system is not compatible with this new bike so if you have those there’s a cost to add on.
8 The screen looks too narrow, so I’d be interested to know what the wind coming from the sides is like and if that adds any fatigue.
As a BMW owner of a current GSA 1250. I won’t be swapping mine any time soon.
As my teacher always said ‘ I think you could do better BMW’
Nice job. You and Kate must have ridden this bike on the same day with the rain. You should consider getting that "lasic" eye surgery. Best thing I have ever done for myself. It's just awesome. Price has come way down over the years. No more "misting". (fogging in the states) That bike seems to be a big step up if it impresses you. Can't wait to see what that engine will do in the R naked version.
From America, we just got back from a 1 month vacation in England and Scotland. I drove a rental (hire) car for about half of that, I do not miss those narrow country roads!
Hope you enjoyed your holiday - most Americans don’t get out of London, and it doesn’t reflect our country. 👍🏻
I like this for sure. Looks 10x better than last model. Doesn’t stir the soul when I look at though. Picking up Multistrada Friday, but I really do like this. Engine sounds like a Duke 390
I would consider this whereas I never have with previous GS’s.
Great review as always, thanks Chopsy
Well done for getting the scoop on this Chopsie. Nice that BMW haven't fallen into the trap of performance for the sake of it and made a gradual progression. I'm not keen in the front, but the 1250 wasn't a looker either 😅
Great review Chopsy, the best one I have seen so far, the engine on someone called Kate's channel sounded like a bag of spanners
I prefer real world reviews to bike launches so well done Chopsy.
Me too!
Great review. Looking forward to a review of longer rides 👍
Man oh man, I still ride my 09 GSA and love that old girl, rode her from Atlanta Georgia to Prudhoe Bay Alaska. I don't ride it much as I have other bikes including a 2023 R1250R (In no small part thanks to your review!). That said even though the leap from my 09 GSA to my 1250r in both tech and quality is huge. Both bikes are superb, love them but for very different reasons. I see this 1300 to be the next evolution in mechanics and electronics and to be fitting with the pattern for BMW, with their GS and GSA 1300 they have yet again mastered the world and are second to none in adventure land. I think for those that can get over the sticker shock of buying a BMW bike there is a very bright future ahead. Don't get me wrong. I am a bike whore, I have owned about every brand including Harley. I have owned Cruisers (Harley Street Glide) (Yammy VMax) Adventure, KTM Suzuki and BMW and crotch rockets Yamaha FZR Genesis, FZR EXUP, R1 to name a few. I say this as I feel I have a well rounded view of what I like in bikes and what I want to do with them. I used to be a Despatch Rider in London so I have earned my seat time, now they are for fun. With all this in mind I really feel, that BMW make the best quality bikes period. If you are talking mainstream, obviously I am ignoring MV and such, they play in a different area. I don't see this new 1300 package and the tech changes that in anyway. It only reaffirms it.
First review of it I’ve seen sans spokes. Strapping myself in
Does seem to be a step up. Well done getting in there first.
Nice one chopsy 👏🏻
Looks like another winner.Thks.
Great review of what sounds like a great bike. Now it's smaller and shed some weight I'm tempted to have a look at this to replace my Tracer 9GT.
Nice review chops, NC500 rideout would be a great test. 🤘
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
This is not how I am
I have become comfortably numb...........Great vid Chops.👍👍👍👍
i had a 1250 gsa the gearbox felt just like a 1978 r100rs had one of those new in 78 i thought the front end on the gsa became more and more vague the further it leant over, overall the 1200 triumph is so much nicer to use as i would never take either off road, who would when there are africa twins in the world.
So is the norden still your favourite adventure bike? Curious to know now that you jump on the new gs.. less hp and a better road engine than the V4 but always lots of weight to carry with you
I wondered why Barron Von Grumble/Chris (and 44 Teeth) was riding a R1300GS from another dealer, yesterday. #ukmotovloggossip.😉.
Sold my BMW r1250r this summer (stupid stupid stupid me!) and looking to get a GS this time, really interested in the 1300. Would pick the R1300R if they would release one, but I've heard from dealer that's not expected until 2025.
Hello Lapinobel, I was a long standing fan of the R series (From 1994(R850R)up until the R 1250, owning 4 models over time. In 2021 , I made the move to the GS. At first I was overwhelmed by the shear size and weight, dropping the bike my first time out. Not very confidence inspiring. After doing some Enduro training, I absolutely love this bike. It is ,despite size, incredibly nimble once underway and more comfortable on tours. I can sit on this bike for hours as compared to the R, which was more cramped due to the more acute knee angle. Go for a test ride. There is a reason for the Gś success.
The more I hear about it, the more I like it......and I much prefer the looks.....this is a maybe 😮!
We all have our ideal bikes for me I’ve a tiger 800 xca after having bmw gsa’s I found them mucho to big. I must admit I fell for the bmw hype, including extortionist service bills. But after servicing my tiger and the feel of the Tiger it’s reminds me of how bikes should be. Sorry for comments but I feel that gsa are to big to expensive..
I'm sure the gear box will get even better once it breaks in and has a few thousand miles on it. Great review choppy 👍🏽
Which would be a better bet for road only use and a tall rider, this or the Ducati Multistrada V2 or V4?
Nice review thank you !
If only you could have your visor open 10%…
“Just” open will deflect all the wind, we can hear better, and your glasses won’t fog.
👍🏽
Unfortunately it was sooo foggy I had to have it 100% open to talk without fogging. I know how to work a visor I have been riding 30 years... ;-)
But the audio actually came out much better than expected considering it was open! Shows how good that screen is.
Great review! 👊👊
Great vid Chops. Cant believe you got out on one first. TMF and Teapot must be kicking them selves 🤣🤣
Gutted!!!!
They are 🫢 But Bruce has bought one so full ownership experience coming from him soon 👍
He's kept that quiet. 😂
Great vid Chops. It looks great imo. I'm not in to the GS' tbh & I have no desire to own one as yet. However I fully appreciate they're iconic, supremely capable & this latest version could be one of the motorcycles ever made.
Absolutely agree 👍 if I needed a bike to do big miles regularly then this is probably the bike to own
Well In My opinion the Tiger 1200 series is the one you should chose talking about putting some miles on it! And it looks much better then the gs 1300
@@iliaskhottour3886how did you find the new GS1300?
I have a 1250 GS & a K1600 GT. For eating big miles, at least to me, the GS doesn’t come close in terms of comfort, performance, and weather protection. For everything else the GS simply kicks but. Just got back from 5:days in Baja where the bike handled everything thrown at it. Incredible machine.
Really loving this "latest new thing". Is it ULEZ-exempt?
Great review! I like the look of it. Hopefully when you do your long road test it’s dry! 😉
I hope so too!
It’s reassuring that they still sound like spanner’s in a biscuit tin, I bought a gsa1200 rally’s tea and thought what’s all these noises, ticking and god knows what!!! and I came off a ktm adventure 🤣
uhh that headlight.. 😖
I think triumph tiger 1200 gt explorer hands down much better with gs1300
The GS 1300 is motorcycles' answer to what the X7 is to cars, not particularly good on or off road. They are big and heavy and are the choice for a middle-aged man with a little too much money, who already has an X5 or X7 in the garage. He will never take his GS off the road in the same way that the SUV is never off the tarmac. He thinks the GS looks good in the garage and his passion for motorcycles is limited to that. BMW are smart and have seen that this segment of the market is growing and are delivering the motorcycle's answer to the SUV. The BMW R80 GS is the last bike BMW built with adventure in mind.
The old one had awful road noise from the front end ,like a roar like tyre road noise coming up from the front .Has this been eliminated? I don't like the "forehead" that the front radar is housed in. I like the fact the prices are not inflated that much. I'd like a go on one in time ,if they shortened the rake on the 1300 rs a little and brought the bars back, repositioned the nav mount, that bike would be more me, I think . I like my v4 multi to much to last with it for a gs though . Nice one chopsy ... now.... ask me about the new multi v4 rs (yes anotger multistrada iteration) against the M xr and I think I'd go M xr / on price alone ... 😮 over 30k for the multi rs i think it was like 32k 😮
Yeah there is still alot of grumbling and noise coming up to the rider. I'm with you on the Multi, think the XR will be the one
I don’t know what to make of the mask and the dumbo ears. Maybe it’s zoro with big ears
I’m looking forward to seeing one at the nec
Another scoop, nice one. Chopsy. The SUV of motorbikes and sounds like a tractor. Ideal for Chelsea owners who will never see a dirt track. Those tyres 😜
Great review Chopsy , horrible day for it but the BM handled it well .👍 never a great fan of the boxer engined bikes ! But my mate loves them and has had a few. Oh and my other bikes an Audi 🙁😁😁😁👍
Thanks Wattie 👍
Front end isn’t too bad, but something looks really wrong with the cast wheels and the back end.. spoke wheels better but I’m still not a fan. No doubt it’s moved the game on a generation, but is this to attract a younger one… time will tell. No doubt it’ll sell in vast numbers. I’ll wait for the 1400..
Would you have one over the KTM Super Adventure Chops
Really good review mate, might even be one of your best 😀👍
Thanks a ton! 👍
It’ll be interesting to see the M version
Can I ask what model of Shoei helmet you’re wearing? I also wear glasses.
Great review Chops , so between the ducati multi rally and the new gs which would you choose
Thanks Lee, blimey that's a tough one.. Was only a quick ride on the GS so tough to call. But probably the GS actually
Hehe ! I have a gs1250 now but had a v4s multi last year ...the bm is so comfy and great suspension but that v4 in the multi is such a peach and begs you to rag it ! .....this battle between the manufactures in the adventure segment to be 'top dog' is producing some incredible machines
Keep up the great reviews my freind 👍
The Flyer fella will be over the moon, it has a fuel gauge.
One would almost think you never rode a GS before (i know you have), when you say that its all about low rev and tourque and nothing happens in high rev.
Has it become a wheelie machine😂
I ride 1200gsa - this machine will wheelie by throtle roll on.
Lamb Chops like it? I'm in.
Excellent review, Mr. L.C. …Excellent bike ! BUT, personally I think the 1250 RT makes far more sense. Most GS’s never go off road. Each to their own, though. Give it 18 months and Mr. L.C. will be testing a 1350 GS… then a 1400 GS. Me ? Cynical ? Surely not. !!
I've got both and never use the RT. Just find it cramped leg wise and a bit unwieldy.
Great test, favorite line, like an Audi driver 😅
Great review chops, engine sounds like a bag of spanners tho
Thing is chopsy. Few gripes. Got that lovely tft but still no apple and android car play.. no back lot switch gear. And by the time you have spec'd it to how you want it then its 22Grand easily. Is it really worth 7k more than say the new tracer 9gt+?
How's that zxr getting on?
I like the new turn signals until they need to be replaced, from a booboo that is. Does anyone know if switches are back-lit yet?
They’re not
@vailmcc Thanks. I saw a video where a sales-rep went to Germany and was told, "They are working on it."
Another good video, just think how much better you would go if you lost 18kg
Some people might like a bit of wind job on the helmet 😮
Haha, naughty! 😆👍
This is road bias?
Nice Review Chopsy , will definitley look at this bike , when its time for me to move on from my multistrada , how would you say it compares to the V4S ? Maybe a shoot out video between the two ? 🙂
Tmfs 1200 is sweating in that garage
Looks more like a V-Strom to me....
No clunky gearbox - can the GS still be considered a proper farm implement🤔
Well that's a very good question Paul! 😆👍
Not sure about the weight savings ? there based on a bog std bike no centre stand no elec screen etc etc by the time you put a few add ons up to TE spec im sure its the same weight as my old 1250? Rear light NO BRAKE module frightens me having been rear ended imagine indicating right on a national with brake light on will the car drivers see you ? Mmm not sure and the front black radar looks awful imho. Ill see if its any good when i ride it very soon. Thanks for the video Ride safe youtube@flapjackandbeans
More electronics more toys relates to one thing, more money. With the speckled out version coming in at well over 20 grand it's far to rich for me.
Does it wheelie? Asking for a friend 👀
Oh yes! 😁👍
“Sit up his ass like an Audi driver” 😂. Is that the official name for the closest setting of the ACC?
Haha yes it should be 😆👍
@@LambChopRides Well you made me laugh at 9:48 with that comment…which is no small feat…so thanks for that LC 😁
Great Review as allways in the finest chopsi style, which I do love! Have a little look at Chris's 44teeth's review.... very Interesting comments!
Yes I watched it last night, was very surprised he found it so sporty...
Worth two V-Strom 1050s...not in my book...nice,but way too expensive, especially in this country with the highest depreciation on the planet?
15 kilo lighter , mate I think your great but please read up on the bikes you test first . The bike is more like 3 kilo lighter than the 1250 ! Feels lighter but not so much .
It's 12 KG lighter according to BMW for a similar speced bike 👍
@@LambChopRides look at the basic bike like for like . BMW are full of tricks . No rack no center stand smaller tank lighter battery ! All that glitters ain't gold my friend !
Here i am on a 20 year old cb500. They can keep this bike.
It’s not the best at X…. So it excels at being the all-rounder then 😂😂
Simplemente otra boxer
So radically different! I cannot tell which one is the new one and which one is the old one. Oh yeah, the new one is more expensive.
Watch out, you sound like you may be liking a non hooligan bike 😂 and you’ll end up buying the M1300GS 😱
Thanks for the new great review, I think for a big number of GS lovers BMW just screwed it up, this usually happens when you try to fix something that works. Now the forthcoming GS Adventure 1300 will have the tasks of putting remedy to that….lets hope so…
Making it faster, lighter and better handling is a massive step forwards NOT backwards. This might tempt me back on one after the disappointment of the 1250 I bought new
Thats me, I just dont like the new bike at all, its a dwarf whereas the outgoing model is what I wanted - chunky, big and rugged. This bike is none of these.... its a sportbike essentially under the wrapper. The weight loss and extra power isnt really of great interest for me (must be the only one!) At 6ft 2 this new incarnation is going to be too small, especially with passenger and touring luggage. So glad I bought one of the last 1250 adv bikes and not inspired to change by what I have seen so far. Hope the new adv wont be going the same route. Ps the headlight and radar cover plastic above it looks, hideous and cheap but we all see different things...
Thats a posh looking tractor 😂
I think engine sound is not nice
Is this 2023 or 2024? Written says 2023...
It's been released in 2023, but I know for American Market will be classed a 2024 bike 👍
@LambChopRides interesting...thanks chip chip!
Still heavier with the same fuel than a 05 1200gs. Bmw should have done way better.
Love Chopsy but GS model such a bore. The Ford Focus of bikes
Gs or ktm adventure?
I can't wait to see the rest of the line. So much potential for a proper sporty 1300RS. Great review as always, man.
I sat on one today , fully loaded 30 , 000€ exhaust can looks like a Ali exspress buy , the seat is like a trail bike with rubber going up the tank , front light is horrible the metal Finnish is like non stick frying pan ! The bike seems to be smaller almost japonés. Lost its gs carácter for me . The previous gs looks like it ready for work the new one seems a bit woke ! I’ll keep my triple black 2023 . 😂😂
You would keep you triple black wouldn’t you. You’ve just bought it! 😆
@@jjnewman65 oh yes 😂😂
@@milabaigar I test rode the 1300 today. Loved it. Order being placed next week.
Don’t buy it then ! Simple really
@@Cartsp70
Paul ! You’ve missed the point . Anyway it’s just my opinion not to worry ride safe if your a biker 👍
Great review, and I must say what BMW have done isn't radical, but it is a definite step forward, at 66 years old I'm on my third GS, after a lifetime of many different bikes, and I think you summed up the GS perfectly in it's ability to do everything very well. My last two GS's have been ADV's, so I'm waiting to see that next year, and I have no doubt I'll be getting the cheque book out again. Thank you.
I must admit that it's not my favourite machine, but I think that the GS is still at the pinnacle of adventure bike's and what a lot of manufacturers aspire to be.
Great video again Chops 👏 😊
It’s so ugly compared to the 1250gs. I think it looks like a 310gs.
Nice work getting your review out so early Chopsy! I can’t wait to have a go myself if only I could get someone to let me have a go!!!! Really glad to hear you like the machine, was hoping you were going to move the bike around to see how it felt lugging it about the garage….guess I’ll have to try that myself one day. Good work on the video, just wish I liked the looks of it as much as you do…..
Looks better with the gold wheels, when are you getting one?
Thanks Andy, I did do some slow speed manoeuvring when I set off from that stop. But got cut out in the edit, I can tell you feels easy enough to manage 👍
I don’t know what to make of the mask and dumbo ears looks weird Maybe it’s zoro with big ears.
It’s a nice looking bike. im looking forward to seeing one at the nec bike show.
How is that even legal not to have a brake light? There's a reason why US style red indicator / brake light combos are illegal in the EU. They're really difficult to see if there's some bright sunlight etc. BMW is just going to have people crashing into their motorcycles now. Also having the indicators on the hand guards is absolutely moronic. It's an adventure bike. They get dropped at times. You break your hand guard and your indicator is destroyed as well. Good luck finding those if you're in some remote area. Then you have to botch something and start drilling holes so you can put some generic indicator on it.
Those stupid radars need to go as well. They just add weight, add cost and they're there so that they break and BMW can charge more money. Everyone has a blind spot monitor already. It's called turning your head. There are no blind spots when riding a motorcycle unless you're looking straight down.
Nice review, not a model for me but appreciate it’ll likely do well. It’s just a shame that outside of these reviews BMW’s customer care and servicing is abysmal to non-existent. They can sell but offer no support, I’d never purchase again or recommend sadly.
Fundimentally just not a fan of several BMW GS key features, regardless of last gen or this. Tele lever front suspension: Just don’t like the feel and disconnect with road is obvious.
Shaft drive: not a feature I place higher than chain drive on an adventure bike (zero trail serviceability and everything breaks).
Inline engine crank: lateral torque from the engine is apparent and unbearable (goes for other bikes like the MotoGuzi).
Boxer engine cylinders: they suck. As someone over 6ft hitting my shins on those stupid cylinder heads is just dumb.
New v old: the new gen isnt even as compelling to look at compared to last gen. The front end is horrible w/front and center placement of the cruise radar. Was it trying to be more like the vstrom?
Too much not to like and for my riding style KTM, Ducati and Triumph will get my money long long before BMW
I’ll….besides, I despise you, Starbucks nasty coffee🤣😂 Also I don’t shop at whole foods.
