  • Soprano Elizabeth Futral sings E Strano/Ah Forse Lui/Sempre Libera from a production of La Traviata at the LA opera. Don't know who the tenor is nor the time that this recording took place.
    Enjoy!

    Wonderful voice! I will see her at the San Diego Civic Theatre on Sunday, April 25th, and I'm more than happy that you posted this video. It's a confirmation of a great performance!
    Mille grazie!

    I remember a few late '90's/early 2000's Lyric Opera of Chicago radio broadcasts with Elizabeth Futral: a wonderful, under-recorded soprano with a limpid, crystal-clear sound. I'm so thankful to have her Lucia di Lammermoor on CD, albeit in an English version on the Chandos label.

    I saw her in lucia de lamermoor at the met a few years ago. she was amazing!

    Love her voice! Just saw her yesterday as Lucia with Fort Worth Opera. Her Mad Scene was out of this world. I agree, however, with those who say that her upper notes (Eb and D) sound a little bit out of control(focus). Her E natural was amazing though! Plus she is so pretty! Brava Liz!

    Elizabeth got her Bachelor's degree at Samford University, not Indiana. I know because I went to Samford with her. She did her Master's at Indiana.

    i think she is a pupil of Virginia Zeani who was one of the very greatest Violettas.

    I've had the privilege of performing with her when I was in the Atlanta Boy Choir... she's got an electric personality, though she carries herself with poise and professionalism.

    She's terrific here. She would be one of my picks to win the Sempre Libera contest. I saw here 3 or 4 years ago singing Lucia with the Met in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx (unfortunately, rained out for the last half). She was evern better in person. I also saw Hei Kyung Hong sing this in Central Park 2 years ago and she was also terrific.

    Well, I am pretty sure that she hit an E natural somewhere in the opera, but I may be wrong.

      Aaron Alarcon There are 2 optional Ebs that can be sung in Traviata. Both are in this scene.

    I think the tenor was Joseph Calleja if this is from 2006
    I had the pleasure of singing in the chorus with Ms. Futral as Violetta at the lyric in baltimore, and I've loved her voice ever since. I would agree with Vairguy09 that the recording doesn't do her justic

    I've loved Futral ever since I saw her in Lucia. Real full-lyric coloratura, not fake canary bird singing. She should have been the star of the Decker Traviata. Dessay....was not close to this type of perfection

    The Louisville Orchestra is in the pit for all Kentucky Opera productions. As much as I like Futral, my purpose in going all the way from PA is to see the American debut of the young French tenor, Sebastien Gueze. He was a sensation in Boheme in Athens, which you can sample here on the tube. He will be doing this role for Austin Lyric Opera in November.

    see, i'm not a huge Sills fan, but my favorite would be anna moffo. Elizabeth Futral is a future big name though...i believe she just performed otello at the met?

    How did you find our lovely opera company? Saw the show today and was stunned by Miss Futral and it was a great pleasure to see Donnie Ray Albert and Sebastien Gueze. If you have the time as well, we'd love to have you join us for Floyd's Of Mice and Men. I'll be in the chorus for that. :)

    "lovely opera company"...Indeed it is! I have certainly seen more sumptuously mounted Traviatas, but never one that thrilled me half as much. However, I don't see myself traveling to Louisville again, unless, of course, Sebastien Gueze is the tenor.

    Her timing right at the end of the aria was somewhat off and she sounded winded by shortening the final note. But she really is a youthful and sensual violetta with a gorgeous lyric voice. I also wish that the audience (esp at LAOpera I've noticed) would hold off the applause after E strano because it disrupts the musical and emotional flow of the entire scene. I missed her performance and hope to see another one day.

    Loved the costumes and the set. This is the first time I listen to her, I'm new at this =)
    In some parts I do find her higher notes a bit strident, but I like her mid & lows... they are consistent. I liked the first piece than the other 2.
    If you have time, check out Sumi Jo's interpretation of "Ah! Forse lui" and "Sempre libera"

    Terrific and terrifying mean the opposite, just as awesome and awful mean the opposite (as if you didn't know that, haha). In my half century of Violettas, I can't think of one that I have liked better. I'll see her next week...I hope she still looks like THAT!!!

  • @emily3013

    To me she seems more like a lyric soprano with a higher extension, not so much as a coloratura. When I saw her at the Met, I thought her acting was better than it is here in this video.

    Annoying that there is a dnatural hum throughout the whole clip. Was someone vacuuming the carpet? It's a lovely sound but she is absolutely knackered by the end - who can blame her!

    Umm, if Futral isn't a coloratura, someone should tell her to stop singing the rep since she sings Cleopatra, Lakme, Lucia, and others. She is amazing, with that needle-like precision of Dessay with just a bit more depth to the sound. Positively ravishing!

    She had to focus so much on singing the high note, she couldn't concentrate at all on acting. And the high note was bad so she just should have left it out. Sometimes she seemed a tad bit sharp, or maybe it is just me.

  • @Colora2ra
    @Colora2ra 16 лет назад

    Her voice is a little strident for me and her high register starts to sound really tight in the second half of the aria. She needs more of that nice lofty soft pallete space that singers with larger voices tend to have naturally. She jumps off the high notes so quickly that it leads me to believe this was not a comfortable sing for her. At the end her lower register is almost impossible to hear becuase she's not singing smartly.

  • @obcessivepink
    @obcessivepink 17 лет назад

    Why was it so horrid? Please, I really wish to hear an explanation. Also, what reasoning do you have for saying that neither her technique nor her dramatic abilities aren't "good enough?"
