Used Trucks are a gamble .....but I'd take an older pre -emission vs a new one any day
Ohio truck sales is notorious for throwing some paint and chrome on a ragged out truck with a bad engine.
Hopefully you got lucky on this one.
You are spot on with your advice on being able to do the work yourself
Yup all their trucks are trash
I bought a truck from them, never will again. I had a fuel problem to begin with and the motor blew within a year even though they should me paperwork for a rebuild. The sale price was $48,000, my rebuild was $32,000. I also had lots other small things go wrong adding up to around $15000. The truck was pretty when I bought it benadryl Ohio Truck Sales will spend money dressing the trucks up instead of making them good to roll.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, I would still buy a pre-emission/pre-ELD truck before buying new. The freedom is great and I am not afraid to service my own engine and work on it myself.
Thank you for sharing your purchasing experience.
I've seen some of Ohio Truck Sales inventory. All I can say to prospective buyers is to check the truck out top to bottom, front to rear. You absolutely MUST know what you are looking at. Used trucks, as mentioned elsewhere, are a gamble at best. Some dealers are better than others, but almost all will try to polish a turd or put lipstick on a pig. Good luck and happy shopping.
Awesome looking w900 bud! 😎
Time for a nice 20” bumper
A cool color match bowtie visor and a set of 8” stacks!! Will look awesome on your w900!! Cheers 🍻
Truck it I'm glad a came cross of this video because I been watching Ohio truck sales in RUclips good info about their truck's keep rolling from Houston Texas 🤘
Awesome man! Glad you found it useful!
You got away better than my buddy did with their truck from Ohio Truck! Their's has been here for 6mths and never has hooked to trailer yet!
Sweet ride 👍🏾
Congrats brother, you're definitely one of the lucky ones. Always wanted to check them out but couple of my buddies have told me to stay away. So I ended up getting my W9 from Texas. Just sub and looking forward to more of videos.
Always enjoyed driving the KW's
Yea man your the lucky one. And I pray you stay lucky. Not bashing them because it was my mistake for not doing the proper research. But I bout my 01 w9 from them last July and the motor blew the next month. I’m just now getting it fixed but yeah I love the truck and video. You’ve earned a subscriber.
Thanks man and I hate to hear people having issues after buying from a dealer, they should stand behind their product more. I hope you get it fixed and making money soon
Great job learning your truck it will payoff, always do your own work.
I'm very impressed with your experience and what you've done and shown us, I personally think you're on your way to a profitable career it sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders, I wish you the very best endeavors!! Please be careful out there too!!!
Thank you! I'm trying to do what I can in this crazy market lol
Sounds like he's a whiny baby. I bought a 12k truck off online auction. Dumped 20k into it welcome to the gamble of trucking son
@@allenmiller2064 no one would dump 20k into a 12k pos. I'm confused as to who you think is whining?
@@Carstalgia As opposed to 20k in a 60k POS?
I have about 7600 just in virgin Bridgestones and new Alcoas in my POS. Hub assemblies, tie rods, drag links, EGR cooler, etc. It adds up fast.
@@dchawk81 not sure where all these numbers are coming from. I'm only about 4k in to mine so far lol
Know your trucks.... they definitely got bad rides.... and definitely got good rides. Not only ask questions, ask the same questions to many different drivers... RUclips your question.... after 40 years in the business, you'll always learn and see something new!
Hey just watched your video, I subscribed because a friend of mine has the same truck but with the Cummins engine. One thing caught my attention, when you were showing the tires, and talking about that one tire you didn't like. My concern on that would be the better tire that's next to it is taking more if the weight and heat when you're loaded, because of the higher stance, making that tire more prone to a blow out. Just something to keep in mind, especially if you run heavy.
100% agree with you. I went to one tire shop already seeing if I could find a used one. But they didn't have any 24.5s. So I'm actively looking to replace it.
I had good experience with them I bought a 2000 W9 replace few things and it run good for 2 years then I sold it back to them cause i was downsizing!!! So all in all Goos experience with the sales teams plus a good ride I got from them!!!
Bought my truck in march been in shop since may 9th straight bull
New subscriber love a W900..just a word of advice try not to swear when doing these vids unless of course you don't care to be demonetized bc yt will do just that..just saying..keep on trucking bro!
You got a gem- a W900L with the Studio Sleeper, CAT engine and the Seattle VIT interior package ( something you don't see on most Kenworths) Just hook the Qualcomm up better by hiding the wires. You spent less money than expected on the rig. Fuel economy is important but it's better than the plastic aerodynamic lookalike trucks with the troublesome emissions.
Heck yeah! It's nice having a real truck..these trucks now are throw away plastic crap. Keep them until out of warranty and dump them, it's sad.
Dude we flew to ohio to check those guys out got a straight up Mafia vibe from that place. They polish and paint everything but shit is spewing oil on the lot.
Gonna be making my trip down soon for my truck👍🏾
Take your time and check it out really thoroughly
I bought a 2005 KW T600 for 21 thousand and I had to drop like a extra 10 in repairs hub was leaking oil I put new motor mounts replaced all oils replaced all coolant new water pump and now it’s going good it’s way better than a new one
Your Ac could have been fixed with a new Breaker. That was why Kw was telling you about wiring issues. On these trucks when the ac works and cools. Then kicks out, the breaker is weak. Thus it gets hot and pops. Then cools down and will kick back on again.
I had a 1995 T600 doing the same thing. After driving 10 hours in 100-degree temps. Went to check the breaker behind the clutch. Burned finger found the hot breaker. Swapped it out and back to working like new.
I feel like I would have heard that breaker popping, like I could with another short I had but you could be right. Hey my bunk ac just stopped working. The fan works and blows air, just not cold air, any ideas?
You guys paying them crazy prices are nuts!
You're not wrong. But I got crazy price on my trade in too.
Nice 👌
Well u did better then I did with mine I bought from ohio junk sales, needing a clutch as soon as I got home in texas, then ecm
You should bought Bendix air dryer, I bought aftermarket and last 6 months
Idk, in my opinion if the truck isn't dot legal rolling off the lot, it shouldn't be purchased. I had a contractor buy a w9 from Ohio truck sales and ended up putting nearly 20k in repairs just to get it on the road legal.
I agree. I won't say they need to be perfect, but should be able to pass dot to be sold in my opinion. That's why you have to really check these things out when purchasing.
Ppl don’t do their research
In a fairy tale world. Thanks to years of clown democrat leadership these trucks are in hot demand
@@Carstalgia that’s the mistake most people make. As long as they don’t see any oil or smoke, they pull the trigger. Then talk shit and blame the dealer. As you and others always say… Do your due diligence.
Bless you and good luck !
You go super trucker.
I've been looking at their trucks but most of them are wore out and way over priced
I'd agree, most are. You have to search for the ones with life still left lol. Usually the more expensive ones
I wouldn't touch OTS with a 10 foot pole.
Might recommend them to my competition though. 😂
Prices jumped $20,000 the past 6-8 months
This looks like it has been rode hard, and put up wet.
got bent over buying there
All cosmetics brov . u could have fixed the dryer with a oring seal but good job getting it up and running
I kept the other one to rebuild so I'll have a spare
Keep them wheels spinning good buddy
I'm trying to move up out of a non-CDL hotshot to semi. Been searching for older trucks but not having any luck. I called OTS about a truck and asked them if it could be driven to Macon GA and the guy couldn't say if it could make it an hour down the road. I realize that with the price I could afford any truck would need a bunch of work to get it operational, but I would expect then to know if a truck could legally drive 5-600 miles.
I wouldn't want to ask a sales person that anyway. You just never know. You're going to have to go check it out yourself or find a shop near by that can send someone.
@@Carstalgia Lol! Well, for a salesman he was pretty honest. When I asked him if he thought the truck would pass a DOT inspection and then be drivable to Macon, he said it needed some tires and he wouldn't guarantee it would go 100 miles. That killed it for me! I was looking to drive my hotshot truck up, have it inspected and use it to tow my hotshot truck home on my gooseneck trailer. My hotshot (non-CDL) cannot legally tow a semi, and finding a bigger (CDL) hotshot trailer is harder than finding one for a semi.
Stay away from those people .
I bought a W900 from a private owner and you just have to fix things yourself if possible but I love my truck
Makes you appreciate it more when you fix it yourself
👍👍👍
Be careful buying from them, I personally seen one they had with a cracked frame under the sleeper and didn't even seem to care when I told them.
Show us the interior
I’ve read more bad than good about OTS. A lot of the interiors I’ve seen are trashed.
Yes they are. The higher or highest priced ones have better interiors and such.
What state do live in I know some good shops in Texas and okla that won't rape you on labor and do excellent work
It's easier on older trucks these new trucks need a shop for damn near everything
For the prices that they have on their trucks, they should be DOT certified.
I don't disagree with that at all
Exactly, that's what I communicated with them, they should have all their inventory DOT certified before they are driven off the lot!
👍😉
what up buddy iam new to your channel i love the w9 i want to say u must be Relatated to just Trucking my boy Justin his the same color as yours u might want to get that Green Apu for your Ride and do a vedio of you going to the Beagon for a truck wash yeah she very dirty from that Rain and dirty drop yards to for when we as drivers goe drop iff loaded trlers in there docks and go out to there dirt lot for a emptie trler or a loaded kne ill wait and wash my truck up when i come out of them dirt holes and keep wash up for the Road Right Ha Ha that how u do it to wash up your trucks right drivers Ha Ha Ha that how i do it anyway i love vedio man nice Ride show us the inside ok when u get a minute later
Did they allow you to take it to a shop of your choice to get it check out? ( DOT, Dyno, Etc. )
Yes
That was my question, glad the op answered
I mean you saved yourself allot of money. The dealer sounds like a a hole rip off master butt sounds like you did your thing got what you wanted now you just have to put the work in lol good luck out there dude sweet ride. Idk if you mentioned but how many miles on the motor?!
Thank you! Yes the kw dealer here is terrible. The engine has 1.5 mil on it. Was rebuilt 206k ago
seems like they just took that truck off the previous seller hands for the hell of it. theres no way they should be selling trucks with this many problems
They sell pretty trucks with massive problems to people who want to be a super trucker and get googly eyes over hoods.
Just keep it as is don’t waste money on chrome or anything make your money don’t waste anymore
They definitely know what there doing but they put to much lipstick on the pig sometimes they bought my uncles truck for 32 and flipped it for almost 70 just from painting it lol. But I guess goofballs giving that much for them is the problem.
I purchased a W900 in February, didn't make it half way home! The truck has been in Des Moines being repaired, just got the repair bill! 31,690.00 !!! Ohio Truck Sales offered me $500.00 to make it right! I'm out 81,000 and they are offering 500 and that's it??? what a crock!
Hold on now bro. 31k in repairs? What was wrong with it? Sounds like a rebuild. A truck that needs that much work would have had a ton of signs and symptoms when you were test driving and pre purchase inspection.
@@Carstalgia there were no issues on the test drive and the inspection, when the truck stopped blowing hot air I knew something was wrong, but was already an hour away. When I took it to MHC in Des Moines the next morning they noticed several issues, which wouldn't have been found unless it was in a shop and a thorough inspection could be done, the point is they had nothing listed as problems aside from leaking seals, air leaks etc... nothing was said about possible problems.
@Patrick Gonzales to me its crazy that they can sell trucks that can't pass a dot inspection. It's not easy to find a truck there. I'd ask about returning it if possible. Sometimes there's a window
It's pretty obvious from their ads that they just slap some paint on trucks and flip em. I'd imagine if you know what you're looking at you could find something road worthy.
Lots lots🙏🙏🙏🙏
Subscribed. I've been in contact with them.
Wow you got had, find a new shop
Oh I did
Are those the damned headlights that blind everyone on lowbeam?
If so, not legal.
Major distraction while they're in my truck mirrors as they fly up to pass me at 80 mph in a 65 zone.
That's why headlights can be adjusted lol
@@Carstalgia , If they aren't DOT legal, no amount of adjustment matters.
But what really matters is NOT having a million trucks on the road with drivers who don't get it.
There's this thing called common courtesy. Trucking isn't all O/Os flying down the road with the bare minimum of safety requirements. Some truckers actually are safety conscious and courteous on the road.
People get way too excited about hoods. It clouds their thinking.
I made the big mistake by buying a truck from those guys and only is the truck a price of junk but I can't even put it to work because I can't get a title for it. I might have to wait 2 months before I can even think about putting it to work. My advice for anyone thinking about going there is basically to just stay away from there, or bring a good lawyer and a certified mechanic with.
I bought my truck from OTS, I have done a few repairs. I'm coming up on a year. I have a 98 Pete.
That's awesome! How's the first year been?
It wasn't too bad, I replaced my starter, my turbo, front shocks and brakes. The rest is small stuff.
You tube turned my sound off so I can't hear
How is it legal to sale a truck thAts not Road worthy
What year and make is it?
2002 kenworth w900l
You got lucky we bought two black W9‘s from there both with kitty cats one was a 10 speed one with a 13 speed the 10 speed one had to get the front end rebuilt The first drive axle all new universal joints and yolk the heater box and that’s just off the top of my head the other truck was that show truck I drive that it’s a beautiful truck it’s a wiring nightmare but I’m fixing things one step at a time motor wise just a shitty turbo transmission burned up had to replace that and every universal joint in the driveline and one yolk also two new front rims the other ones were original to the truck and very thin on the lip
Holy shit dude, punctuation goes a long way. Did you drop out of school in 4th grade or something?
@@jackmeoff2274 No it’s called Bluetooth speak to text while driving I didn’t know we had a Punctuation social justice warrior on the page so sorry if I hurt your little feelings not
OTS strikes again. SMH.
I have nothing against Cat motors but they use more fuel than CUMMINS or Detroit and now that's a big d3al.
I'm in the 6-7 range. Can't complain!
What kind of mpg’s do those get?
I'm trying to do make a video about it but basically 7s
Not bad at all, I thought it was less.
🤣🤣 you'll be Lucky if you get 5 mpg lol not 7
I’m looking to buy 2004 kw900 from where you got yours you think I’ll have hard time leasing on to company do you think it’s a good buy
No I don't think you'll have a hard time. Most just need to be able to install their eld system which needs 2000 or newer. As long as you can make money and you pick a good truck it's a good buy.
@@Carstalgia thank you I be watching your videos I always wanted w900 and finally getting one can’t wait I’ll shoot some pics and I’m def trying learn how to work on it myself def save money just was lil nervous with it being a 2004 what year is your truck you plan one doing anything custom
@@maurice6102 heck yeah man! Mine is an 02. Was rebuilt late 2019, about 220k ago. Runs amazing
@@Carstalgia is it hard to get more horsepower out of them
@@maurice6102 depends on your motor but generally no, it's pretty easy
I got lucky on mine too… a lot of things needed fixing but the engine is still good though still fighting the ac
Don't take it to kenworth of Columbus
He'll your lucky you got all matching wheels on yours that place Is a joke they put lip stick on hogs
Not all of them but definitely the case for a lot of those trucks.
They are a very bad dealer. My friend got a truck and they sent him a handwritten Registration. He can’t even get the truck on the road.
Really?! How can they even sell that?
That place is greasy as fuck I sold them my old 1999 clapped out w900 with 2.4 million on the od for 20k and then they turned around and polished a turd with cheap paint and polish and listed it for 70k!!!
They definitely sell a lot of clapped out turds lol
Really, young man, how in the world could you be so gullible as to not running away from those clowns when you saw what was going on?
I don’t understand why these youngsters are buying these older model trucks that aren’t fuel efficient when diesel prices are sky high around the country??Is it I wanna look cool rolling down the road thing in my old school rig🤔?I think the whole RUclips trucking with the old school rigs with the Jake brakes howling got these youngsters heads all F’d up!!!
Definitely part of it! Love me some loud ass Jake's lol but my fuel economy isn't worse than my freightliner somehow.
@@Carstalgia 10-4
Who was ur sales rep
Her name is Brittany. She was very helpful.
@@Carstalgia I bet she was. They always are.
Probably to much.
You say they charged 1700 to replace the ac compressor. Thieves for sure. 400 dollars in parts could of only been compressor
When replacing a bad compressor, you also need to replace the accumulator, and expansion valve, when a compressor goes bad, it can send particles to those and end up causing you more problems
Your right but they are nothing to change. 2 maybe 3 tops Just don’t know how they came up with so much labor. Just crazy. Nothing hard about any of it
I think most of the cost came from discharging and recharging the system itself, but I do agree that still a high bill.
Hello, what is fuel mi per gal on your cat engine?
Going to make a video on it but I'm getting 7-7.5
@@Carstalgia lol not a chance . my 2015 get only 5.7-6mpg on a lucky day With the loads. Those old truck will get you like around 5 average.
@@mrtee3477 that's some of the difference the driver can make. My 2015 freightliner got 7.5 in winter and 8 in the summer. Took this truck to Florida and back. Heavy on way back up 75 through the mountains and got 6.7 average for the trip. Calculated using miles and fuel receipts my friend. Now I stay out of them and just run mid west, 65-70 mph and am getting 7s. Pulling dry van. I hear it all the time from others with large cars too, I'm not the only one.
@@Carstalgia hearing what people say..blah blah. My average speed is like 60 mph I can only muster 6 mpg on I 10 from tx - sc.
@@mrtee3477 Think you are correct. I have owned 2 different 379 petes over the last 14 years. One with a 3406 and the last one a c15. I run easy. 5.4 was my average for the c15 for 2021. One month I got a little over 6 but I never got 7. One time I did get 7 bobtailed from E St Louis to Cleveland Oh. I know a guy has a KW think its 3 years old. He doesn’t touch 6 mpg. He has the Cummins x15.
Probably as much as you paid for truck in the first place
Nope
Most truck from Ohio Truck Sales are polished turds
OHIO TRUCK SALES I THINK THE LIE TOO.MUCH WITH ALL TRUCK HAS HISTORY OF OVERHAUL..
No paperwork then someone is lying that's the way I look at it.
It seems ohio truck sales are criminals not unlike many other buns put their name out it will help other drivers there are a lot of swindlers out there
So in other words, don't buy anything from Ohio truck sales.
You can get a good truck there. But you have to know what you're doing.
Don't go to OTS and don't let your thinking be clouded by hoods and chrome.
It's a business and trucks are tools.
Get the hood once you're settled in and have too much money on your hands, and you can afford a good one.
