Had a guy want to sell me a truck a while back. 379 Pete and a hopper bottom. I crunched the numbers and I could swing it and be profitable. But I’m about to have my second child in three months and I have a great gig hauling fuel for pilot. And I can’t make myself give up excellent insurance and pretty decent pay to chance owning a truck in todays market. Maybe one day but not now. I deliver to Walmart D.C. in searcy Arkansas and every driver I talk to there at the DC love it at Walmart. Good luck brother take care of your son because at the end of the day he needs you more than this road does.
I don’t see how you could be an owner operator and only take home $1000 a week. Right now with the economy being as bad as it is I’m still taking 3000 or a little better Home each week after fuel costs and after the 20% I pay to be leased onto the company and after insurance and ELD, and I am home 95% of the weekends.
@@nash1744 I probably average about 2700 miles a week. Home on the weekends. Our freight averages anywhere from 325 a mile up to five dollars a mile going out and probably averaging two dollars a mile coming back.
If you an owner op and your pulling spot market freight your in bad shape! I have my authority and a carrier agreement with a mid size company pulling contract freight using there fuel card pulling there trailers and doing good.
I don't know if this Walmart thing is true or not? It's sugar coating it too much I think. I met in person with people who drove for this company and they didn't say good stuff about it.

I worked a dedicated account out of Seymour last summer. I enjoyed my time working out of there. Good luck. Walmart is the only company worth working for. All the other carriers are the same.
I’ve been an owner operator for 7 years and I’ve never seen $1000 a week after expenses. That’s horrible. Whoever you were working for was screwing you. If you’re not bringing home 8-10k a month after all expenses you’re hauling the wrong loads and working with the wrong people.
Here’s the thing though, most of the time when people get on here and say that they have their own direct customers or contracts. Or their career does.
Been there done that nothing has been as decent after 2008 recession ... the best thing i ever did was quit trucking in 2011. I sometimes miss the solitude but there more to life than stinking trucks and the none ending headaches 😮
I bought my first truck when I was 34. 6 years later I have 5 on the road. Get with a good company that has specialized freight. Tank, rgn, or something of that nature. Most banks will want 30 percent down. Finance the truck your self. Buy a truck that is 07 or older with a big block cat

My carrier didn't want to help me when I asked. Got my load repowered and left here at a truck stop. They tried to cheat me one of my loads talking about system error... I hauled for Walmart when I was leased to my last company. I just hated going to Kingston NY in a sleeper! 🤣🤣🤣 If you havent been to Kingston NY Walmart location where you have to go to the underground delivery spot, you will find out! 😂😂😂 Good luck to you man! To bad I didn't know about you before this. I know a company that is always looking for O/O's they pay $3-40000 a week with fuel factoing, Health insurance, 401 K and the like. Power only with a per diem as well as hotel stays on them.. This is doing concert tours and Broadway road shows.

You would have to do a whole lot of inspections if that was the case, obviously the company got $400 and the actual inspector got whatever it is they make off of it. What am I missing here?

I’d have some 2 or 3k weeks but average around 1500. Do you book your own freight though? Or your carrier have direct contacts?

Not surprised really, anyone with a long nose trash truck is doomed to fail. These trucks are the definition of trash. Get a real truck like a cascadia or volvo.
Long hood trucks are good for heavy hauling . When you make 3-4$ per mile pulling oversize loads you really don’t care about fuel economy.

I find it quite crazy I make $1500-$2000 a week as a company driver at a small LOCAL trucking company yet you owner operators or only making a $1000 Sounds to be like you were getting shafted by some people. The load I did this morning paid over $1400 and yea I do those loads 5 days a week im just not understanding how your margains could be that off where you make $1000 a week thats laughable really!
