Time to get your own customer’s and cut out the middleman. Some of those same people you been hauling freight for, go talk to them search for their emails. Take the day cab haul containers and still be home everyday until you can get a direct shipper. Brokers are trying to take 60% of the load for themselves

I used to do some power only work with 10 Roads. I liked it and never fell off a load, was never late or had any other issues. Out of the blue, I tried booking a load one morning and they told me I couldn’t work with them unless I had 5 trucks on my MC. I called back hoping to get someone else and was told the same thing. No reason I couldn’t have ran the load. I have a truck half a mile from the pickup not doing a thing, clean MC, CSA, plenty of hours, etc. Very very frustrating and frankly stupid.
I believe the powers that be (???) are trying to destroy as many small owner ops as they can.

It seems to me that the problem is all corporate greed. Oil company profits are high due to the unnecessarily high gas prices, companies don’t want to pay decent rates to move products and yet prices on everything is going up. Where I live grocery stores don’t give bags to carry what you bought out in, but you can buy bags and you have to bag and most likely checkout your purchases yourself. So the stores are saving a lot on not supplying bags or hiring people to work the registers, yet the prices haven’t come down and instead they go up. All about corporate greed and lining the pockets of the wealthy. That is my non-professional opinion, now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Listen up all you owner ops…I’m a former broker. MC starts with a “1”. Been around. The big boys are cheap and heavy. How do you think they pitch a competitive advantage to the freight manager and the shipping companies? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some ridiculous margins that were crazy high. But, sometimes we would lose our ass when the market flipped. Brokers are long term on an account. Win some, lose some. By the end of the year, you hope to have a good margin. The market always dictates the rates. Freight volume vs truck availability. Brokers are just middlemen that try to bring stable, long term rates to their customers and manage the market. Brokers are shitty, but they have a purpose. A freight manager doesn’t want to get to deal with multiple 10 trucks, when they can deal with 3 brokers. And the brokers are tiered. CH is CHEAP and has leverage with their market volume. The shippers have to adapt to the market demands of the trucks. They haven’t yet. And the brokers are locked into those rates. Also, there likely isn’t a lot of fright right now bc the economy is shit. That means shippers name their price to brokers fighting over the scraps.

All of the clowns talking about him being punished for knowing his worth are the biggest part of the problem in this industry. You are willing to run for peanuts, run at a loss, and run your trucks into the ground just to keep moving.
If you stood your ground for 2 weeks, do you think rates wouldn't go up? You are so desperate because you over leverage yourselves that the peanuts seem like a lifeline.
If all you get is peanuts, it is just a matter of time before malnutrition gets you.
Plug your numbers into DAT and see the losses that you're taking on the rates being offered by most of these brokers.
All of our costs have increased yet rates are decreasing and you can't pass on those increases? Says who?
I don't blame the brokers. I blame the clowns who take the BS they're feeding you. Good luck with that.

Their goal is to run the OO's under as much as possible, and it will continue to get worse. Get the customers lined up first, before investing, or forget it.

Justin, I'm sorry to hear that you're going through this, my friend. It's truly unfortunate when you invest in a business and get nothing in return. I was an owner-operator myself and exited the industry in 2019 because I was losing more than what I had invested. Now, working as an independent driver, I'm making pretty much what I was making as an owner-operator. The mess we see in the trucking industry is largely due to the bad policies of the Biden administration. I understand that most people prefer not to discuss politics, but it's evident that these policies are causing the chaos we see. Bad governance leads to difficult times. If we don’t change our voting behavior, no amount of prayer will alter the situation. We can’t vote the same way for the same people and expect different results then when we don’t get the results and difficult times is a result, we ask God to bail us out. We created the times that we’re in and it’s up to us to get it right by voting the right people in along with God’s help when we repent of our sins and trust in Jesus. As the Bible says, we reap what we sow, and that's exactly what's happening.

@JustTruckin Justin, You've weathered a lot, but you've demonstrated integrity, responsibility, and professionalism all along the way. You've always said, "know your worth," and that was foundational.
We've spoken previously (wife and I got into trucking, inspired by you) and we're working on year three. We went company instead of o/o partially based on your sound advice. We have been able to increase our income year over year and are well situated currently so we owe you a debt of gratitude.
My advice back is for you to find a way to drive company without mothballing your trucks. Sell them if you must or maybe find a dedicated run under a larger authority, but you're a solid (good) man and any company would be lucky to have you among their ranks.
Don't give up, adapt where you must. That has always been your strength.

Justin that's a lot of money $20,000 I don't think the brokers know how much it cost us to keep the trucks running in maintenance insurance I'm praying that something breaks soon on loads

    • @r2db
      @r2db 6 месяцев назад

You can't get a reliable truck or trailer for $20k. At normal shop rates, one trip to the mechanic can cost over $10k. Insurance for a new driver is about $20k/ year. Then you have vehicle registration (~$2,500/ year), IFTA (varies depending upon where you drive and where you purchase fuel), federal highway tax, unified carrier registration, and all sorts of other miscellaneous costs.
Nobody is going to be able to "start" their own trucking business with $20k.

Shippers pushing loads through brokers equate to shippers saving money by having locked in rates for themselves and not dealing with individual carriers. They leave the battle between brokers and owners.

Here is what I know. Our current, uh, ''elected by ____ officials'' poured money into the economy in a nonsense way. Not investment, just spending money. That helped, but it is a really stupid thing to do. Thats what causes, inflation. To keep doing it, causes hyper inflation. Which causes countries to fold.
Anyway, now we are going to see what inflation can really do to the economy. Most of y'all are too young to remember the 70's and Jimmy Carter as president. Its alot like right now... Look for things to get worse. If trump doesn't win, or at the very least, the senate flips and congress majority gets greater for conservatives, we are in for a world of hurt. Bidenomics is stupidity in action. Well, unless you are actually trying to take the US down so a world government can take over? Then, they look pretty smart.

And what Jb Hunt is doing they only put the loads on the load board that they own company drivers don’t have a backhaul out of so if you do a load from Houston Texas to Dallas Texas if no Load come out of there they’ll put those loads on the load board Houston Texas to Fort Worth Texas has a backhaul coming back to Houston them the ones they don’t put on the board And the customers are setting the rates so cheap, that’s the reason why Convoy went out of business

Everybody needs to make money. Some of the Brokers out there need to understand the drivers, like yourself who are owner operators and even the company drivers can't cover the expenses that come along with hauling those loads, when you all are getting paid three or four hundred dollars to go how many miles? That's why I've said if I was a professional driver, I wouldn't even think about turning the key for those rates. I wouldn't even leave the house. It's time for those Brokers to understand it needs to be at least 50/50 and not 60/40 or 90/10, in their favor. Those last two should be in the favor of the companies or the owner operators.

I figured I'll get a lease to start and see how it goes. What's you opinion on that? Im a family man myself, I've got 4 kids 1 still at home. my wife and I made decent money but some tax write offs would really help especially if we can bring in a little more income at the same time. I'm in the Michigan area and looking for a mentor from successful trucker. Love your channel bro your inspiration!
