Almost 2 years ago. I got stuck in Ontario Ca for 4 days with load of ice cream from Las Vegas for Amazon Fresh. $180 a day for “layover” pay (not detention). Ended up taking it all the way back to Las Vegas, where the entire load was donated to the public down at the LV Sherriff’s parking lot. They put it out over their FB page and people with their kids showed up by the hundreds. Thank god the co I was leased to paid me $3 a mile for the backhaul. Best out of a bad situation 🤦🏼‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

While carriers have the right to demand payment or a guarantee before delivery, placing a lien on a trucking broker for non-payment is not a simple process. Instead of a lien, carriers can file a claim against the broker's surety bond, a type of insurance that protects carriers from non-payment.
File a claim: Carriers can file a claim on the broker's bond using the Policy/Surety number listed on the bond. They'll need to provide paperwork like the BOL, rate confirmation, and any communication supporting their claim.
File a complaint: Carriers can file a complaint against the broker with the U.S. D.O.T.'s National Consumer Complaint Database.
Send a letter of demand: Carriers can send a letter of demand to the broker
Now since you said they were bought out they bought the bills as well!

I'm surprised they dont adopt a standard IT philosophy and just have you take an open dock with your paperwork and they key that payload you have to the offload since the offload seems fairly automated with conveyors taking boxes to the right place.

The logistics sector of Amazon obviously still has lots to do with their ability to keep up with supply and demand challenges. Very frustrating to see this happening. I’m a former heavy truck equipment operator up here in upstate New York. Amazon has been ruining the trucking industry with their ridiculous robots that are constantly manufacturing. Everything was fine until companies have started to do let employees go and replace them with robots that are honestly more inefficient than humans. Very nonsensical to me. Good on you Justin for keeping your cool and professionalism during these shenanigans.

Would it be worth it to invest in a GPS unit or even an Apple AirTag to keep on your trailer? Besides the obvious anti theft use, it could alert you when the trailer was placed into, or out of, a dock door. Sorry for your troubles.

Paid detention should be legally mandated, and the penalties for not paying it should be extreme.

its stupid that Amazon will refuse delivery at final for it being late or not paying out the detetion for being late when it was their own facility that made the load be late

Must be something with that cat food. I have an amazon every 2 week subscription on those exact cases because every store is out of stock most days. 100% of the amazon deliveries of them to my house are 3 or more days late.

Or go to a company like mine. Hub Group pays by the hour, plus milage, plus detention. You have to put up with a lot including the camera, but the money is really good.

Best advise i can give you is to stay away from shippers like this I know the pay is attractive but that's probably why and at the end of the day look at the headache and fustration it gives you and alot of brokers will stop paying detention pay after 8 hours and give you layover pay which is just a set rate like 150 to 250 not worth an owner operators time just avoid these type of shippers if possibile that's 17 years of being an owner operator talking to you im looking at the board now they gotta alot of good paying loads going out of Hartwell GA i live in Greenville SC there paying 1100 to go to Salisbury NC no thank you because if i pick it up Saturday morning it won't get loaded til Sunday morning not interested they can keep there $

I have said this for a long ass time…I had to wait because I got their 9 hours early. Plus you pull up have to slide them in hook drop full forward 4 foot. And have to wait. I sat 13 hours in a dock .

Remember this next time they have a trip available. Add a couple of thousand dollars to it. If everyone did that, they might realize that they have a problem. Get a decal made that says NO AMAZON and put it on the inside of the mirror or windshield. Don't bid again.

Being a company OTR-DRIVER and hauling a reefer, it is as bad as it was for you, especially picking up loads for National Beef or Tyson in Kansas and Nebraska.
Mostly because they still had to process the load of beef or chicken which could take up to 72 hrs before being ready to load on the trailer after being brought up to temp.
To go with that, the load is scheduled to be delivered in Illinois or New York City up to 2 days later at 7:00 a.m.
