@@BassByTheBay tiny absolutely worshipped bing Crosby growing up. So for someone like him to actually be sitting there at the Hollywood Palace with the man he listened to through a gramophone alone in his room was extraordinary. Tiny was literally losing his shit on the inside

And thats all good. But the fact is that it wasnt his musical talent that got him famous. He made the top 100 chart once and held it for a month. But his real talent was looking awkward for an audience. Even that was limited.
He was also a talented deadbeat dad as well. But that parts rarely spike of.+iiì
Erinyes10, I agree with your comment 100%. I'm sure that Bing was really impressed to have this scholar and superfan describing all those songs and movies. This is one of the greatest things you could find in American music history.
Tiny WAS impressive in that exchange - and his hair was neatly combed for once, perhaps another sign of respect for Bing...

He wouldn't have. He respected Bing too much.
A few years later Bing got into a back and forth over real names with Flip Wilson on his show, addressing him as "Clerow" (Flip's first name) and Flip coming right back and calling Bing "Lillis" (his middle name).
His vocabulary is very proper and nice. I love it.
I have always loved Tiny Tim's voice, he was so underrated...most people only know him for tiptoe though the tulips, with his signature falsetto tone but he had a wide vocal range and varied repertoire of songs.
Tiny Tim has always been the object of ridicule, but I think he is very awesome and talented. He is also very intelligent. I hate it when people make fun of him!

This is the best performance by Tiny Tim I've seen. I'm glad that Bing didn't make fun of him. TT was funny and charming.

And Bing absolutely knew that tiny was the real thing, a real historian and scholar and performer. Bing would not waste time with anyone that wasn't legitimate as a musician and an artist. These two were peas in a pod, and Bing was very sad later in life that tiny fell on troubled times.

WOW----I'm amazed how Tiny Tim captured the actual Bing voice--not only vibrato, but Tiny was extremely close to Bing's original hit. Very nice, "TT." He actually is more talented than his "Tiptoe through the Tulips" over the top persona.
Tiny Tim was really who he appeared to be. I met him once in Grand Central Station at midnight while I was waiting for a train, and he was kind and gracious to everyone who came up to him

Fire..... Tim was over looked because not enough people understood that he was singing early 1900s style music perfectly. Maybe artistic. An A-gamer without a doubt.
Just wonderful. And so classy for him to be appreciated by Bing and the audience at the time and not simply the object of dumb jokes.

Tiny Tim's popularity may not have been long. But I'm so happy he was able to see all his dreams come true. A "freak" from New York that nobody believed in, would you have believed in him? Yet he became a star and met and sang with the idols he listened to his whole life in a dark small apartment.
Tiny Tim is the man.

Tiny sounding better than Bing on sounding like Bing. This is amazing television. Holy Crap, fantastic
TT could sing solidly on pitch reliably. Especially in his later years, Bing couldn't. And when I pointed this out to my dad once, he said that Bing _never_ really had good pitch. His style let him slide into the notes rather than hitting them much of the time.
No he does not. Why compare? No one comes first or second : art is not a sport!
Crosby was one of the few people that did not openly make fun of Tiny Tim. The "T T" was not meant as a jab, he was surprised by the audience response.
He was a great man. Very kind person. I feel like he may be on the spectrum a bit, but that is what made him so special.

It may have been weird for them at the time but I’m glad Tiny Tim has transcended. Yes he was strange but in hindsight, he was completely wholesome. I think we can all learn a lesson from him to just be who we are.

Never gave Tiny Tim a thought after his initial flurry of fame. But seeing him again some 50 or so years latter I have a new found respect for him. A lovely guy all round. Let atheist god shine on you Tim.

Watching Tiny Tim stand before one of his many idols is like watching a child in a candy shop. Such a wonder!
Tim's playing up a campy / weirdo feminine side was all an act that was designed to market his act - and it worked brilliantly - plus it was really funny. And he was a virtual encyclopedia of American popular music and show tunes, from the late 19th century to the 20s, 30s and 40s. He was a really nice fellow that most didn't get or understand. He was also quite talented.
Tiny Tim had some pipes. And I’m willing to bet Bing was sincere when he addressed his vibrato. It’s out of this world.
What a delight! So wonderful to see Tiny Tim singing with Bing Crosby. I think Tiny Tim's vibrato was truly matchless!

Well, I hate to boast but my vibe is nicknamed Tiny Tim.
I used to think that he was just a comedy novelty act. But later realized that he was a true scholar of the music of the first half of the twentieth century. He could have been a very effective professor at a music school. As far as his singing goes, don't let the falsetto kid you. He was right on pitch and sang with heart and emotion.
Man some talent on that stage, its a wonder the timbers could hold them up and Bobbie Gentry sure was easy on the eyes

What makes this ALL the more amazing is this is pre Internet and DVD/VHS rentals...how Tiny Tim would have amassed that knowledge as it would have required a lot of manual legwork...theaters playing all those old movies would have been one of the only ways? Books the other?

Tim always was a walking encyclopedia about old songs and since Bing is still the all time king of hit records (340+Top Ten hits and 40 # 1s!!!) it makes since that TT would be up on his Bingopedia.

Tiny Tim was one of my earlier memories. Bought the 45 of Tiptoe Through the Tulips when I was a kid. But I'm only now seeing these interviews and hearing him talk. It gives you a much a deeper insight into his personality. Fascinating

When Tim begins to sing, first astonishment, then admiration and then a trace of livid envy appear on Crosby's face. What appears astonishing is the mixture of these three sentiments, and the total incomprehension of the public, obtuse and respectable, of this small, grotesque drama between two artists at the highest levels.

These days, Tiny Tim would've been recognised as an artistic savant, it's widely recognised that he could recognise each reference number from each record.
Such a shame that in England, he was perceived as taking the piss out of British culture, but even as a British person I don't think he was capable of such a thing.

I was no where near this talented but I study American pop culture for the 70's, 80's, and 90's as a Japanese student. Among my peers, I was the encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture. I was obsessed with it when I was a teen. I used to smuggle TV guides and magazines from American base where it was stationed near where I lived in Misawa. It was practically my bible lol.

I thank RUclips for giving me such an appreciation for Mr Tiny Tim. He was such a gentleman. So kind and respectful. I have to admit that as a boy in the ‘60’s I was kinda creeped out by him. But now I love this guy.
