- Keeping Up Appearances: Interview with Patricia Routledge (Hyacinth Bucket) and Clive Swift (Richard Bucket).
The host is Judi Spiers.
For all those interested to know when this interview took place: Patricia Routledge says: We are going to do a Christmas special for 1994 and there is a Christmas special coming out for this year, which we shot glamourously on the QE II and had a wonderful time. So that's this year and then we're doing a Chrismas special for next year...
That means it was recorded somewhere in 1993. Приколы
Watching this in 2024. What a gem!❤
Me too, I am watching in 2024 and every time I laugh like I am watching for the first time
Me also. I never miss a show and when I saw this I had to watch it.
same 🥰
Me to in June

“It’s my sister, Violet! She’s the one with a swimming pool, sauna and room for a pony!”
AND a Mercedes.
No it’s just my sister daisy she’s not the one with the Mercedes and room for a pony
I am watching this in 2024. I can't believe 30 years has passed after this amazing interview!! I'm obsessed with this sitcom 😃

When Clive said "Richard Bucket" I was expecting Patricia to say "Bouquet dear!"😂
One of those rare shows that you never really get tired of.
I totally agree! 🥰
Hyacinth is such a strong character that most of the attention is on her. But Clive plays the long suffering Richard to perfection. Clive is a wonderful actor.
He's already passed away, unfortunately.
@@MVK123 Yes, that's so sad.🌹
I've always found Clive Swift to be the consummate foil to Patricia Rutledge 's absurd, but lovable and comical foibles in the comedy " Keeping up Appearances." Both Patricia and Clive are finely talented and versatile actors her as Hyacinth Bucket, and he as Richard Bucket, in the above mentioned television series.
@@tommcconville677🤣 TV TV 😊😊
He deserves a medal lol
I am American and have been watching this show since the 1990s. I've always said to my friends that Patricia is probably the nicest lady in real life and this interview confirmed that. She is pure class. I miss that show.
Yes indeed. I love this television series.
An absolute British classic! I wish they still made shows like this. Patricia Routledge and Clive Swift truly made this show as brilliant as it was, along with Geoffrey Hughes and the rest of the cast

"I don't like this level of intimacy..." as Hyacinth brushes past Richard in the kitchen. Just perfect.
This is now 2023 and Keeping up Appearances is still one of the funniest sitcoms ever made.IMO
I Love Patricia Routledge. She is one of those rare actresses who can do comedy, drama and has a beautiful voice. Her comedic timing is impeccable. This series is classic.
Totally agree, her voice is lovely, not a gonna/wanna etc spoken as you hear everywhere these days, ok this is from back in 1990’s,
I love her too, she is very funny, great actress and a accomplished singer!🌹

I love her! She should play the Queen's role in her last years for The Crown! She is excellent! She is the queen of UK,s comedy!
I love when they're in the car. 'Watch out for the cow, dear." Richard "The cow is in the field!" Hyacinth "They've been known to jump fences."
Mind the pedestrian!
Hahaha. Indeed..😂
@@ctaylorluce "Mind the tree, dear"
I can imagine her saying "Watch out for the butterfly, dear." He'd say "Isn't it in the air?" She'd say "They've been known to land on windshields and startle drivers. As they say, dear, "butterflies are free!"
@@maryk446 "There's an ant hill there, Richard. Be aware."
Richard: "We're in the road. The ant hill is on the lawns!"
Hyacinth: "Ants have been known to get into people's pants, dear. It's quite difficult to drive with ants in one's pants."
I love this series and am still watching it in 2023
Television at its best. Never get tired of watching Keeping up appearances.
It's one of those shows you think has had a tone of episodes and seasons where it hasn't really. like fawlty towers - 12 episodes and you watch the reruns again and again. Similar to The Vicar of Dibley, there were only about three regular seasons and a few Christmas specials.
@@andrewmurray1550lr
@@andrewmurray1550 Where did you get that information? There were 5 seasons of KUA. Approx. 40 episodes.
I love that comedy, pure humor 😊
Keeping Up Appearances is still going strong every night in Denmark. I'm 54 years old and absolutely love it. My daughter is 25 and think it's weird how much I love watching. It's hilarious and let's not forget Onslow 😂

I loved it when Hyacinth would polish the leaves near her door talking all the while to the neighbor or whoever, like telling Elizabeth about tea time..
RIP Clive. Such a wonderful man.
I agree wholeheartedly. ❤
I think he was great 🤗
That he was!
Clive Swift was the perfect choice for a husband.
My mother died in 1997 and my last memories of her when she was healthy was how much she enjoyed keeping up appearances. It brings back lovely memories of her when I watch it😊
How wonderful you have such lovely memories to cherish.
I have similar memories from my mother, who passed away in 2006. She loved Keeping up appearances - and so do l!
Same with me my Mum & I loved 🥰 watching this show fond memories
My mum passed last year, and it was her favorite too..
❗I love them both ! ❤ And miss them ALL desperately. Our family never missed a show..

Keeping up Appearances brought me and my children (all boys!) together every week. It was so wonderful for them to have such clean comedy. They were brilliant.
We’ve stopped watching FOX Nation, since they fired Tucker Carlson. Now, we’ve started watching the “Bewitched” series. Last night my hubby said “oh why can’t there be humour like this anymore”. My only wish is that they’d kept all the 1960’s commercials. We’re starting “Keeping Up Appearances”, next. ❤️
@@Bella-gj6wc Glad to hear you’ve stopping watching Tuckkker KKKarlson because of his firing 😮, now you can get to deprogrammed the appalling disinformation both Fox and that white supremacist spread for years …Comedy is a wonderful way to relax as against the nightly dish of fear mongering and hatred Fox gives, I live in the Canary Islands little crime and anyone caught with a gun except a strictly regulated shotgun will spend many years in jail….No hate channels on TV except for cable but very strict libel laws so companies like Fox Newsmax OAN etc would be scared to spill their propaganda…
@@Bella-gj6wc I guess you'll have to get a subscription to Russian television if you want to watch Tucker in the future 😂😂😂

My brother and I used to watch this show with my mother. We were just kids but we used to laugh hysterically. To this day my mom and I quote this show and laugh. The humor is timeless!
Keeping Up Appearances, one television show I never grow tired of watching.
Patricia is so gracious, witty, & has wonderful pose. Clive seems genuinely sweet & they both have an emotional chemistry with each other & natural charm together. Love them both!
Classic British comedy, each character perfectly cast.
Daisy,Rose,Onslow top shelf casting.
I totally agree. And the outtakes show how much fun they must have had themselves!
I wish I could have met the late Clive, but Patricia is still alive. How time goes by so fast. I feel so depressed knowing so much time has gone and so many great people have been lost....
I do too. This truly was an endearing show and wonderful time for me to be a young adult. I’m 42 now and really mourn my youth thru shows like this. RIP Clive 🕊️
I could listen to her speak all day. She's so articulate and funny and very pragmatic. Wonderful upper class accent but that's where the upper class stops. She doesn't think she's above other people. Brilliant actress, love her
That’s not an upper class accent. She’s more clearly spoken than that and you can still hear her regional accent come through.
She lived round the corner from me, Tranmere, Birkenhead. Working class but a decent area then.
I'm an American and I love 'Keeping Up Appearances!" It was such a cleverly written show, and the acting was superb. The poor put-upon British husband and his overbearing, "Over-proper" Royal aspirant, yet loveable wife, genius!
Clive Swift's Richard is one of my favorite sitcom characters of all time.
They all are to me! Especially richard and Onslow
My dear mom is no longer with us but keeping up appearances was her favorite shows.
It is a lovely series!
So sorry for your loss!❤️🩹❤️
My Mom is gone😢, but it was her favorite!❤
When Patricia talks about the Christmas special for 93 being on the QE two and I had to smile. I remember that episode so clearly and I was 7 at the time. The fact that 30 years have gone by and I still remember it, shows how great this show and how wonderful the actors really were.
I'm not sure my son will have the experience unfortunately.
❤
This show was very popular in the Netherlands. Me and my relatives loved it and we still make references to the show.
Especially Onslow is a favorite of ours.
Onslow was played by the late great Geoffrey Hughes who often played comic characters such as. Eddie Yates in Coronation street Twiggy in the Royle Family and loveable rogue Vernon Scripps in Heartbeat.
As I watch this today, 5-15-23, it is with wistfulness. Clive Swift is now gone, and these two were such a treat in KUA. AI have all the episodes and the laugher I get is just as good each time. I particularly love the “Driving Mrs. Fortescu,” and “A River Picnic.”
I believe it was in "A River Picnic" that I first heard the word _riparian._ If I'm not mistaken, that was the only time I've _ever_ heard or come across that word; when I looked it up, I wasn't quite sure how to spell it, but found it eventually.
"An afternoon of riparian delights," if I correctly remember Hyacinth's invitation. Who could possibly refuse?! 😂
He also played George the II a Masterpiece series about the political FOX family.
I have very fond memories of the privilege of working on her show in the theatre I work at, when she was on tour talking about her long and amazing career..I looked after her in her dressing room to get her settled in, wired her up for sound, then operated the lighting desk for the show, at the end of the evening she was very obliging to have a pic with me, and sign a flyer, but what surprised me was when I walked up the centre aisle in the theatre, and she was at the back of the auditorium, as I approached her, she held out her hand and said in a very warm comforting voice, "Hello dear, what`s your name?". I was so made up, she then went to look at the organ, and was amazed, and engaged in conversation with all those woh came into contact with her.I had always admired her for her wonderful performances, and that night was certainly a great one for me, and the audience too, and yes Emmet used to worry about Hyacinth singing to her, but no fear, she really could sing, and has appeared on Broadway, and in London, in musical theatre..An absolutely lovely lady, with such a passion for theatre, a shame many only know her for playing Mrs Bucket, she has had many strings to her bow..
Patricia still lives, she will be hundred wonderful person.
These actors are SO talented yet so humble. It really says so much about them.
Love Patricia Routledge she's a delightful person and an incredibly talented actress. And Clive swift what a thoroughly nice man. No one else could have been Richard Bucket
Who is still LOVING these re-runs?

Love Clive and Patricia! They do have wonderful chemistry. RIP Clive, I bet Patricia misses you very much, as we all do
A match made in heaven. They were wonderful together.True comedy which is sadly rare now and nowhere near this quality
Both of my children in their late 20s and mid 30s love keeping up appearances; it has them in stitches!😂😂😂😂😂

Which of them, besides "Richard" have passed away?
Pearls for girls, traditionally a single strand collar bone length is worn for work and daily wear. Informal dress such as drinks and socialising requires twin strands at collar bone or slightly longer. Formal evening dress is multiple strand at longer lengths accompanied by matching pearl ear rings, pearl bracelets, and other complementary gemstone jewellery. Just in case anyone was wondering 🧐
I bet Sheridan knew these guidelines
I do not think I have been laughing more in my life watching this fantastic lady! She was absolutely hysterically funny!!

So pleased to have found this and so lovely to see that Patricia and Clive appeared to have a genuine rapport. Sadly, Clive is now no longer with us. His son Joe who is a noted gardener and tv presenter in the UK looks and sounds exactly like him. I noted with interest when Clive is asked if he might write a book on gardening, little did he know at the time that his son would go on to forge a successful career in the field of horticulture.
I used to watch this show on PBS all time with my grandma. We always laughed together. It brings me back so many wonderful memories.

They're both SO lovely, and such consummate professionals--gracefully sharing the limelight with ease and generosity.
This just goes to show that British actors get to show so much more intellect and method in their acting and preparation than what we get in America.
