- Spiral roundabouts can seem confusing to learner drivers, so I am hoping this video will help you to get a better understanding go what to do.
The video covers how to change lanes on spiral #roundabouts, what you should be looking for on the approach to the spiral roundabout and the importance of planning to help you get off safely.

This is the only video that helped me to understand spiral roundabout properly!
Thats great news. Safe driving and thank you for watching the channel.
this was so useful. Hate those roundabouts
Some of the best vids I’ve watched on spiral roundabouts! Please do more of these!!
Thank you
I’ve been driving for 20yrs and I still can’t cope with nightmare roundabouts like this! I’m thinking of having more driving lessons.
Passed test today with 2 minors thank you for all your help
Congratulations 🎉
Passed my test today with 7 minors which I thought wasn’t bad, your videos really helped and you are a whopping driving instructor thanks for the vids
I passed my driving test this morning ,I ‘d like to thank you very much indeed for all your helpful videos .
Congratulations on passing your driving test.
I find once you've done one multiple times you just seem to "know" what lanes to be in, what can be tricky is a unfamiliar spiral at night or in the wet when the road markings are almost invisible
Great advise
Lovely useful video on spiral round abouts
Thanks a lot
Travis you are a Maestro, God bless you.
Thank you
Cheers James, I find spiral roundabouts a pain in the you know what!!!. I avoid them at all costs. I will now try them at a quiet time following what you said
Thank you. Safe driving
test is tomorrow afternoon but feel much more relaxed after seeing your videos. Travis you are a hero !:)
Good luck
@@JamesTravis thank you! passed with 2 minors. Chuffed :)
Andrew Milne congratulations on passing
My test is in Tuesday you have helped me loads I don’t like roundabout but finally got them with your help
Happy the videos are helping. Good luck on your driving test.
Hi Travis. So thankful you've got a video on this. I struggled with this during my driving lessons as I keep getting confused. My instructor gave me a printed image copy of the spiral roundabout (the one I am struggling with) which he got from Google Maps to get myself familiarise as this particular roundabout will definitely be in the test route as the testing centre in my area are a few blocks from it. My test is booked next month. I have been binge-watching your videos. Thanks for all the helpful tips for a learner like me.
Good luck and thank you for watching
Really excellent use of repetition. Thank you so much. Learned a lot.
Thank you. Happy it helped you
Thank you for your videos they helped me a lot i passed today with 0 minors for the first time! i can’t believe it i am so happyyyyyy! good luck everyone!
Great pass, congratulations. If you get time checkout my playlist called First year after passing
@@JamesTravis i will definitely watch it thank you
Wow. Lots of tips there, it's hard to take it all in on a lesson. Thanks
I haven't done spiral roundabouts yet. This video was helpful to understand the theory behind them but will have to wait and see how it goes in practice...
The more you practice it, the easy it becomes. Safe driving
Plymouth has a lot of spiral roundabouts and with heavy traffic it's sometimes impossible to see the road markings, so there's often last-second lane changing going on. You need eyes in the back of your head!
Very useful video. Thanks..
These spiral roundabouts are very confusing indeed. Its difficult knowing which lane to be in when guided by GPS. But I am glad to say, driving for the first time in UK I had difficulty with only some of them..
They do take practice to understand them
i have passed my test today..i have been watching all of ur videos n that gave me alot of confidence..thanx
Congratulations on passing
I literally did this route on the roundabout today, my test is the 14th June. Before that I was practising going straight via the Roman roundabout, as if that wasn't hard enough! I finally got that hang of that route, and then my instructor told me today to try going right on this roundabout, and it totally threw me. Finding you video has literally saved me, as I can now process what I have to do much better, thanks so much for putting out great information!
Good luck on your driving test
You are amazing sir I have been watching your videos every day
Really helpful Big thanks for sharing
Thank you for your comment. Safe driving
@@JamesTravis i didn’t start my lesson yet but I learned so much from your videos sir
As a German who drove their car to the UK and is staying here for a few months I immediately came across an even scarier spiral next to my current home. It has 7 exits and you approach it on a maximum of 3 lanes, but the roundabout has 5 lanes at most times. Firstly I don't know what lane to take when approaching, then I don't know what lane to go on inside (at some exits 1 lane will come off, at others 2 will come off or none at all, making it a guessing game) and when I realise I'm on the wrong lane I can't usually do anything different from taking a wrong exit that elongates my journey for at least 5 minutes as all exits go to carriageways or motorways. And then there are traffic lights in the roundabouts that make me wonder why they didn't simply build a regular intersection instead, would have been easier and faster for nearly everyone.
That does sound scary. Just know that a lot of Brits won't know what to do either. We just pretend that we do. :-)
I'm practising for my driving test - practising is hard, but the road setup should be easy to understand when sitting at home :)
There should be only 3 literally going around the roundabout. If you see 5, it's possible the outer 2 are exits/entries, merge/split with middle lane for exit/entry and going around (hence 3 lanes on approach to roundabout), and then there are 2 inner lanes on the roundabout. Often the left lane on the approach will just be a left turn, rather than going around the roundabout. It may look like a 5 lane roundabout but really shouldn't be
You're a great person. Thank you so much 👍😄😄🌼
Good info , tks . I think if you know where you are going and familiarity makes it a lot better , when unfamiliar i find to take more time and look well ahead helps . I found your tips useful tks .
No matter how many times you repeat it. I don’t understand the spiral roundabouts which is very very very frustrating and more as a learner.😢
I watched many of your vedios n they are just amazing...very informative n you got very nice way of illustrating things n removing confusions...Thank you very much n please keep on posting vedios as they really really help...thanks again
Thank you, will do
Brilliant video. Cheers Travis!
Thank you sir
It was very helpful . Thank you so much.

Hi Travis. I live quite close to here (in Leighton Buzzard). The Kelly's Kitchen roundabout as you go into Bletchley (about 4 miles south east of that IKEA roundabout) is a really tricky one. It always makes me super nervous.
I have done a video on Kelly’s roundabout called how to change lanes on spiral roundabouts. It’s a small world. Safe driving
it helped a lot. thank you
Safe driving
So so helpful;!
Very good mate thankyou
Thank you
Very helpful
Excellent, thank you for watching
thanks very much its agood drive
Is it possible to do a roundabout with 4+ lanes possibly with on the approach also any advise for super busy times when said roundabouts the marking are covered by cars? Our local big island like this is full of people just using whichever lane is noving quickest n jumping across. I passed in the summer and still darent go near this island unless just turning left 😊
Emma Howard Why don’t you look at the roundabout on Google Maps and find out which lane goes where or go on the roundabout when it’s least busy?
very helpful thank you :)
I find spiral roundabouts more logical than normal, because the lane marking literally directs you to your destination. No need to worry about changing lane (though the option is still there of course). If they were standardized and the highway code rules were changed slightly, maybe there's also an argument to be made that people who are entering the roundabout don't need to give way if the car already on the roundabout is in a different more inner lane to the one you're intending to go on?
Thanks for watching
Hi! That's me once again following your advise. I can see here an IKEA very clearly. But where's the Marshall Amplification plant?! ))
Do you indicate as you go round say if you came in at 6 and planned to go off at 3. Or do you just stay in lane and indicate left just as you come to your exit. Cheers.
I would indicate right to start so everyone knows you are going round to the right. Once you have passed the 12 o clock point and are looking to move to the middle then cancel.
Learn-to-drive Travis that I'd helpful. Test on Friday.
So at 3.50 was the mixer truck in the wrong lane on approach, as he took the same exit as you at the following roundabout, ie coukd you have taken that lane also.
Both lanes went ahead, so the mixer truck took the left lane probably because of his size, then no one is trying to go past him on the left. But I could of taken any of the two lanes. I chose the middle because that I am already in the correct lane as I approach the large roundabout, making it easier
These ones kill me off.. Help!
Have my test in a weeks time, what advice would you give to help prepare and feel confident on the day
Give yourself time to get to test centre, so you don’t rush. On the day of your test just keep the driving simple. Good luck
Quite easy when you think about it. I've got one near my area but with traffic lights so alot easier because it's slower.
Hey travis at 5:59 why did you signal early before 2 nd exit ?
Hi, it does look like I signal early. But when I am commentating I tend to say things early before it happens.
@@JamesTravis Thanks a lot for reply . Whenever I watch these videos it was confused so ask you . I liked to watch your video over and over so I don't miss out anything
Thank you for your kind comment. Safe driving
Here is where i get confuse by the dash Line when it joins up 5:59 it' look's like it's pointing straight-ahead.
Hi Travis. That white car cutting in front of that white van at 8min into the video on the roundabout. Was that an error? Looks like it to me.
Yes the car should of carried on in the middle lane to exit, which would of been the right side of that exit lane and then filtered in in turn. Was a bit silly of the white car, caused the van to slow more. But the positives is the white car signalled and you hoped checked his mirrors first.
@@JamesTravis Cheers for explaining my friend.
Clever clog never looked back once when reversing
Get up to. Queensland
I’m a learner but isn’t singling at 5:58 before passing the exit that was right towards you wrong and misleading? It could have indicated to other road users that your existing that exit that was coming towards you on the right before you’ve reached your exit.
Hi singling too early is misleading. Unfortunately this is one of my old videos and the camera on me is about a second ahead of the front camera which makes it look like I am doing things early. So when I am talking about what I am going to do, I do signal just passing the exit before I come off the roundabout. Hope that helps, thank you for watching. Safe driving
👍
Hi at 3.58 you were on the middle lane that shows you need to go straight but you took left. I didnt understand. Please help me
Hi, look at the whole picture on approach. On the small roundabout you can either go right(use right lane). There is no ahead on the small roundabout. So to go ahead and continue the journey the road bears left then bears right to go ahead.
The left lane can either go left or follow the same route as the middle lane. Hope that helps.
@@JamesTravis thanks Sir. I just saw it.
I just get complete brain fog with spiral roundabouts.
They take a while to get used to them
Yo dev driving. Great haha.
Explain for yourself dude :))) in this way old man, you make dizzy anyone (coming off Irish)
Thank you sir
