Rosemary Clooney triumphant. Any person who is a dedicated fan knows that she endured a very difficult stretch in her middle years. So it is a joy to see her in such good form, relating so naturally to her appreciative audience. This is an incredibly beautiful program. So wonderful to come upon it. As for the music, the orchestra is top notch with their rendition of spectacularly well written songs from the 1930s. Q: Have we been able to keep up this standard of excellence in our present day music? Yes, this is a very high mark.
When she starts out “A foggy day in London Town” literally every hair on the back of my neck stands at attention! There will only be one Rosie. We love you and miss you terribly!
The sweetest thing of all was that she had a late-career resurgence. I remember seeing her pop up on TV all over the place throughout the late 80s- 90s
I wish you could find the video of Rosemary on the Boston Pops Christmas program, I loved her voice and the stories she shared with her audience. She was a very funny lady, great timing. That voice is unmatched in her delivery. Miss you Rosemary
I feel the same way. I saw her live 3 times in her later life. I loved her arranger (John Oddo) and her whole band (especially the trumpeter, Warren Vache). It brought out the best in her. And she was also happier. Have you read her autobiography, Girl Singer? Recommended.
7:23 She was smooth with a very comfortable voice to listen to. I saw her in person with the Artie Shaw Orchestra. This was an outside venue in a park. When she sang “Tenderly “ it was magical.
I luv her singing so much, when I was just a kid my mother would wake me up if she was on johnny carson show. CausE she new I luved her. R I p. Lovely lady thks for bring joy in our lives with ur songs
I met her after a concert when her For the Duration album was just released. She was very nice, signed my CD, thanked me for coming to her concert. Kay Starr and Tony Bennett were also very classy and gracious in person.
what can i say that hasn't been said - Wow ! add to it that she's almost 70 years old here, and you see real talent. she is just so musical, so personable. just love her !! thx
I remember this performance very well. If you have any more of that evening's performances PLEASE post them. Of special interest to me is "Stairway to Paradise," which is hands down the best version of I have ever seen. The other piece they is very special was Michael Feinstein's performance of a piece of music that I'm not sure has been recorded. It certainly hasn't been recorded by Michael Feinstein. Unfortunately so many years have now passed that I can no longer remember its name but it was incredibly touching and poignant. That evening was and is a national treasure in the history of American music.
What is it about Rosie? Is it the inflection? Or the oceans of warmth coming through? Is it rather "the swinging sassy style" words she used to compliment Helen Ward on the stage of the Marriott Marquis in the Benny Goodman tribute, 1985.
james sullivan its the essential blue note in her voice that always comes through but was essential in her later years...tben there is her perfect pitch, always, and the almost minimalist no nonsense approach she mastered ...the song is the thing...I believe every word she tells us....remakable artist !

She still sounds great at her old age
Rosie is a legendary girl singer, a wonderful person who has left a legacy
I worked with Rosemary in Orlanda, Florida when she was in town for a Gala along with the Rockettes.
many years ago! What a lady! What a voice!
She was always great, but I have a special fondness for her voice later in life. The warmth, the maturity of interpretation are wonderful.
Yes, not so much razmataz. More vulnerable interpretations. I wish I'd gone to see her at the Rainbow Room years ago.

"Our Love Is Here to Stay" is here to stay! ;-)
Great backing sound!
That moment she smiles in the middle of a set as though she remembered some particularly sardonic private joke
This is the first time i've heard all the lyrics since ella did this in 1960
She's Soooo beautiful and powerful*u*
she's great too
Ottima scelta, Bella canzone Grande cantante!!!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, the great Rosemary Clooney! :)
Liked her better when she was older, heavier, and her voice was deeper.
The one and only Rosie !
female singers of today: take note. this is how it's done.
Ugh, such an unoriginal, played out, condescending, pretentious comment.

james sullivan - She didn’t need gimmicks.

Well, that's the really *important* part. /sarcasm
