Say what you will about Rosemary Clooney but it’s not every woman who could vocally hold her own with Bing Crosby. That puts her in a league of her own.
Ironically, it was Rosemary Clooney who said Bing made it so easy that “ if you can’t sing with Bing Crosby, you can’t sing.” I got to see her in concert a few years before she died. Danny Kaye could do it all. With his lanky frame, he could sing, he could act ("Hans Christian Anderson" is just wonderful), and he could dance. Boy could he dance. With Vera-Ellen in "The Best Thing Happen While You Dance" is a phenomenon. They make it look so easy, but one can only imagine take after take after take to get it just right. And they smile, too. Incredible...
How I wish we had these types of movies made again. I watched White Christmas the other night. World troubles and commercialized Christmas was forgotten as I drifted into this beautiful innocent story. ❤
I was 9 years old when this film was released. My mother had made a rule that year; I wasn't allowed to see any movie with a happy ending, which is to say most movies back in those days. I got lucky in the winter of '54 and got to see White Christmas with my mother not finding out. For me, the movie was a forbidden thrill.
I still watch this show every year. I love the pretty dresses and the magic of the production musical numbers and cast. We were all left with such a precious gift with this show and these actors who take us step backwards to a moment in time when life was a little more simple. This show was also paid a wonderful tribute to the service boys facing some scary moments of their own mortality durring war time. Those who were greatful to be alive to make it back home to their loved ones for christmas. One of the best memories of my lifetime is being at Rosemary Clooney's home outside Durant, Ok. She was SO kind and welcoming. We did hayrides, bonfires and some good old college fun. I am not sure why she opened her property to us and was so kind but she was. I wish I had told her how much I loved her music. There's nothing like "counting your blessings instead of sheep!".
My wife, a retired artist from Louisville's Courier-Journal, was asked to do Rosemary's portrait for a feature story in the late '80s. She met Rosemary, also Nick and Nina, and gave her the original color pastel which is now displayed in Rosemary's former bedroom in Augusta, Kentucky. Sweet, genuine lady! So very talented.
@@jerryrice8860 How nice! It isn’t Christmas until I watch the movie White Christmas. Each year that I watch it I find something new that I hadn’t discovered before. It is a work of art filled with great acting singing and dancing. I got the opportunity a few years ago to speak to Debby Boone, who is Rosemary‘s daughter-in-law. Hard to believe this film was actually made in '54, because it still holds up so well today. Rosemary Clooney was my first movie star crush, too. When I saw those baby blues and blonde hair, my heart went ka-flooey!! Btw, if you'll notice at exactly 2:24 minutes in to this video, you'll see her dancing with a dark-haired, handsome lad. I think George Chakiris was also one of the dancers in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in the scene where Marilyn is dressed in a pink strapless gown singing Diamonds Are A girl’s Best Friend.

I was watching a bit of White Christmas today and this brought me back to those days when we were children helping our parents prepare our Christmas dinner while watching a rerun of White Christmas on tv. My dad was the chef and he prepared a feast for us for all the holidays, Christmas most especially. Dad passed away nearly 7 years ago and remembering that time so long ago is so special. It brings smiles and tears to me. Thankfully, our mom is still with us. We treasure every moment with her. God bless our mom and dad for everything they've done for us. They taught us so much about kindness and giving. We're so proud of them both.
The amazing thing is that this movie has almost NOTHING to do with Christmas save the fact that the benefit show takes place on Christmas Eve and the last song is a Christmas themed number. It didn't even premiere at Christmas but rather in mid October. Yet, for some odd reason, its considered a Christmas movie!
Finally watched this movie for the first time this year...over and over again. Don't have a clue why I waited 57 years. There is so much talent in every aspect that makes this movie so emotionally triggering. I literally cried when Netflix quit streaming it after Christmas...now I need to get the DVD since I can't buy the streaming version from Amazon. Irving Berlin is a genius. Edith Head is a genius. The actors are geniuses. An overly stimulating movie with so much song, dance, and don't forget the story line of the General...that one tear in his eye at the end pretty much sums up life...and it was said in "It's a Wonderful Life" at the end..."No man is a failure who has friends". Most movies have an entertainment level...this movie actually MOVES you! Peace and Love to all!
My favorite Christmas movie! I was smiling the whole time while watching this video. If only the younger generation of parents/kids would watch this together! Christmas Vacation is a great movie, but White Christmas is a classic Sadly, some of my younger co-workers have never heard of it.
Can’t say enough about how much I love this film and the actors but Edith Head was a genius as well. She knew glamour. She dressed the characters bodies to a T. No one has taken her place.
This was my dream to have a perfect Christmas like at this beautiful inn, especially with the snow falling at the end when the open the doors and extravagant holiday stage show. The musical score is perfection.
Me and my family watch this movie every Christmas and it's part of our family tradition every year since I was little! Thank you from the bottom of mine and my family's hearts for making this beautiful movie that definitely brings Christmas joy and Christmas spirit to our hearts
I love The Holiday Inn, but, White Christmas was so lavish, and beautiful with so many stars that it immediately became part of our Christmas Movie tradition.
Just watched this movie. Such a classic. Great cast, funny moments, excellent dance numbers. And the costumes! You could transport them to today and they would still be chic and beautiful.
I’d like to sing praises for Irving Berlin’s fabulous music also. He sure knew how to write catchy popular songs!! The movie came out the year I was born,1954. I didn’t see it until I was much older. It’s been a tradition to watch it for the last 20 years atleast. We know most of the dialogue. We’re going to watch it tonight, Christmas Eve 2020.
We watch this every Christmas at least once. This year, the 70th Anniversary it is playing 12/15-17/2024 and we are going to see it in the theatre. I am so excited.
My best friend of 55 years & I have been huge WC fans since we were kids & have memorized virtually the whole dialogue. The past few years, it has played in theaters for a few days in December, we've gone with my daughter & granddaughters. The grands can't quite believe we can recite ALL the lines right along with the stars. I highly recommend watching it on the big screen if you have the chance, especially to see costume details.
This a special Christmas movie, admired by thousands of people that watched and made the holidays enjoyable and gave us joy, each year to watch the stars perform as they were our own family.
One of my favorite feel-good movies of all time! I was 13 when it came out in 1954, and I saw it when it came out, and many times since. I also have the DVD. That film gives one the feeling of Christmas!
I always shed a tear at the end of the movie when they all stand up and sing. A flashback of things that will never be again and all the memories that will no longer be experienced again. Trivia- The blonde dancer who stays “ well I never” is Barrie Chase , who is still around.
Totally love white Christmas best of all Christmas movies of 21 century always watch white Christmas every year thank you to the cast of white Christmas and a special thanks to bing Crosby
The reason these old movies are so well loved today is because the talent was and is legendary. Not knocking today's artists, but they are not in the same league as what you are seeing here.

Love this film , Danny Kaye genius, Vera Ellen fabulous dancer but suffered so much with anorexia , she isn’t seen without a high neck costume , Rosemary Clooney her voice is spun gold , Bing is Bing ! Fabulous film , when the General walks out at the end perfect

@@marthay.higuera9723 You are correct on that - I just saw that clip the other day!
@@dawnwelch6579 Wow just had to look - there he was again - such a great looking dude that definitely stood out!
I have watched this film every year at Christmas time, isn't the same without it.
It has a become a holiday tradition for me and my family.
It's become a Christmas tradition with my mother and myself. We always watch this on Christmas Eve. "The theater, the theater, what's become of the theater" and The Best Things Happen While Your Dancing are my favorite numbers.
@@leonahumphries7832 Me too! I made a computer generated tour of the Inn from White Christmas, so we can feel like we got to walk around inside. ruclips.net/video/6VZUNDeHYv4/видео.html
I probably watch this movie 20 times a year
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane just watched it, it's fab.
Such a sweet memory.
White Christmas is my all time favorite Christmas movie. All the actors were outstanding as were the costumes and the sets. Bravo, bravo.
Rachel Bowley totally!
One of my favorite Christmas movies. Watch it over and over again at Christmas time. Mr. Bing Crosby and Mr. Danny Kaye were the best.
My kids (6 and 3) absolutely love this movie. They’ve asked me to watch it 3 times this Christmas. Lol
I can't believe all these classic movies are unknown to folks..they should take it like a graduate course in college..
They are truly missing out😏
Rosemary Clooney was in a league of her own.
Who would have thought that 40 years after this movie's release, Miss Clooney's nephew would become a household name?
@@Juliaflo snd he is boring as crap
I remember the first time I saw this movie. Enjoyed it very much. What a masterpiece.
Can’t say enough about how much I love this film and the actors but Edith Head was a genius as well. She knew glamour. She dressed the characters bodies to a T. No one has taken her place.
A timeless classic full of nostalgia as endearing today in 2019, as it was when it first came out in 1954 !
The year I was born...
in 2020 too- healing balm for a very tough year-- and continuing into 2021.
I am so glad Danny Kaye got the part. I love him in this role and he reminds me so much of my uncle.
This was my dream to have a perfect Christmas like at this beautiful inn, especially with the snow falling at the end when the open the doors and extravagant holiday stage show. The musical score is perfection.
Try The Fern Resort in Orillia , that is what I do .
Love this movie 🍿
Me and my family watch this movie every Christmas and it's part of our family tradition every year since I was little! Thank you from the bottom of mine and my family's hearts for making this beautiful movie that definitely brings Christmas joy and Christmas spirit to our hearts
My all time favorite Christmas movie. Vera Ellen and her dancing, phenomenal. Great legs a nice plus with her dancing.
A once in a lifetime voice. Amazing.
I love The Holiday Inn, but, White Christmas was so lavish, and beautiful with so many stars that it immediately became part of our Christmas Movie tradition.
Love 💗 this picture from the time I was a child, and to this day......
Just watched this movie. Such a classic. Great cast, funny moments, excellent dance numbers. And the costumes! You could transport them to today and they would still be chic and beautiful.
1954 was probably the happiest year of my life until 1995. How well do I remember this movie. Dream times.
Watched it last night and again tonight. Probably will watch again for the next 11 days of Christmas, as well as repeat in 2021! 😅
Bing once again is perfection. Rosie and Bing had a lovely friendship of equal love and respect.💖💖💖💖
Count your blessings is one of my all time favorites
This is an excellent watch -- especially on Christmas Eve!
Love, Love, Love-Rosemary Clooney!
Perfect person to stroll down the “White Christmas” memory lane with.
❤️🎄💚
That DRESS by Edith Head in Love, you didn't do right by Me... OMG!!!! LOVE Rosemary Clooney!!! xoxoxooxo
Yes, in a movie full of beautiful clothing that dress is a knock out!
PeaceFan1 I love that dress too. And the song, and the dancers.
We watch this every year and have done so for well over 30 years. My all time favorite movie.
She’s still beautiful even in her later years. She’s got those gorgeous eyes and great skin!
Love this movie! Rose Mary and Bing Crosby did a lot of duets together. This movie had a wonderful cast of Stars..
This a special Christmas movie, admired by thousands of people that watched and made the holidays enjoyable and gave us joy, each year to watch the stars perform as they were our own family.
I loved Rosemary Clooney when I was kid. She had a lovely voice & smile...never forget her.
One of my favorite feel-good movies of all time! I was 13 when it came out in 1954, and I saw it when it came out, and many times since. I also have the DVD. That film gives one the feeling of Christmas!
Get the Blu-ray. It's worth the upgrade.
"Sister's" with Bing & Danny makes me laugh. My first smile in days! I needed that.
Danny was brilliant!
Andrew Patrick I agree. His voice, IMO, is even better than Bing Crosby's!
I always got him confused with Donald O'Connor.
I always shed a tear at the end of the movie when they all stand up and sing. A flashback of things that will never be again and all the memories that will no longer be experienced again. Trivia- The blonde dancer who stays “ well I never” is Barrie Chase , who is still around.
One of my favorite movies. My daughter and I watch this together every Christmas Eve.
Totally love white Christmas best of all Christmas movies of 21 century always watch white Christmas every year thank you to the cast of white Christmas and a special thanks to bing Crosby
This movie was a great blessing to have for the rest of my life.
Love this move such a classic
The reason these old movies are so well loved today is because the talent was and is legendary. Not knocking today's artists, but they are not in the same league as what you are seeing here.
Bing was THE heart throb of my mom's age group. They used to call him, The Binger," , too hilarious and charming!
Love these wonderfully talented folks and this film. What a group.
angela bluebird60 My sister is 39 and used to LOVE his music before mental illness took it all from her. When I hear his music I remember the good times with her.
@@guccideltaco What a lovely comment.
White Christmas, awesome,awesome movie👏👍🏻
I love this movie I still watch it time and time again it's a classic and I specially like Rosemary Clooney
This music is like gentle waves that glide through my soul, bringing peace and serenity. 🌊
Loved the stars, costumes, hairdos, actors and music. I loved Rosemary, as her voice was angelic.
My......Favorite Movie......& I'm 67! Thank You!
One of my favorite movies. I watch it every Christmas.
I wasn't born until 2 years after this film was made, but it's my favorite movie. It's sad for me to watch now as the world is not as wonderful as what's depicted in this movie.
.
One of my favorite Christmas movies, I watch it every year.
One of my all time favorites. Danny Kaye one of my favorite actors.
My sister and I fought a lot growing up and my dad used to love to sing the “sisters” song to us 😂😂😂😂
👍
Sunshine Luke My boyfriend sings it to me and my sister now 2018
Oh my gosh me too!!! My mom and dad would sing it to us.
Loved the music and music
Ours too. 🤣
Have been loving this since college. We watched the cabaret show scenes in my theatre class. Watched the movie and just fell in love
I first saw this movie when I was very young, and today at 70 years old I still watch it, this movie is like a real Christmas movie, that and Die Hard ( :
Don’t you just love Rosemarie? She’s so natural and down to earth.
I think you mean 'Rosemary'.
She reminds me of my late sister in law, my brother’s first wife, who passed away 23 years ago…blonde, blue eyed, big personality 😊
@GeoStrum3: Who is “Rosemarie”? This isn’t THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW! Her name is “Rosemary”! Guess she didn’t make that much of an impression.
Rosemary & Bing harmonized so well. Classic movie.
FYI: Danny was an accomplished Licensed aviator Piloting his own private Jet.
Kaye held a commercial pilot's licence and had flown every type of aircraft except military planes.
Danny received a type rating in a Learjet, and he was named vice president of the Learjet company by Bill Lear as an honorary title and flew a Learjet to 65 cities in five days on a mission to help UNICEF
Amazing! What a great guy.
