Diane Sawyer interviewed Rosemary Clooney at Rosemary's home in Augusta, KY. The interview airred in January of 1992. Includes clip of her recording "We Fell In Love Anyway"
Rosemary comes off as someone you could sit down and have a real heart to heart with. She seems quite honest with herself and not hiding where she's coming from. I like her and would have loved to have known her. What a genuine lady who survived Hollywood.
A great entertainer and a genuine Lady, there was no maudlin self pity there but a very poignant moment when the interviewer said " You always look so happy?" and her tone of voice as she says "Do I?" She faced down her demons and came back, an inspiration.
At the beginning, look at that tiny waist! And a power-packed voice, beautiful face, lots of talent, and a great sense of humility. So glad she made it through the bad times and had a good come back.
I love this!, I've LOVED Rosemary ever since I was 8 years old, and I still listen to her everyday, I love her laugh through this interview, so 'knowing' and wise about the moments in her life, hard won wisdom, but lived through - I think she survived all! Now, will someone make a big screen biography of this AMAZING woman!, PLEASE, its well past time...the Sondra Locke TV movie was ok, but not long enough or comprehensive enough - and it had one glaring flaw, Tony Orlando as Jose Ferrer, now who came up with that piece of casting?! Does anyone else want a big screen version of her life (done right) as well? Isn't it finally time!?
Fascinating woman! Thanks so much for sharing this interview, parsonkrb. I'm a longtime Rosie fan & I've read her autobiography but it was wonderful hearing her story out of her own mouth. I was particularly blown away by the Robert Kennedy footage & the rare photos, including the shot with another legend Sarah Vaughan. I never would've put those 2 together but it makes perfect sense that they would know each other since they both were signed to Columbia records in the early 50's. Thanks again!
when I was a little girl I was a member of a Children's Choir in Derry Ireland. We toured America on several occasions and on the 1958 tour we were brought to CBS studio in Hollywood to meet Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. One of the highlights of my life. We even sang for them.
this is wonderful... I've also read her biography and it was amazing but I agree with ThorSmith .. really seeing her talking about her life and her perspective of things coming out of her mouth was really cool! great interview!
I'm 19 and I love her! I grew up with white Christmas and after recently watching it again have fallen in love with this incredible performer, she is so wonderful. She looks like Marilyn Monroe...
It was the 1950's;I was a typical(but gay,who led a double life)nerdy teen, all my friends were also teens, but none gay. Somehow,I manage to play the role successfully. My male buddies were all at he "drafting" age. I escaped the draft,as the doctors stamped "rejected",not geniuses of being gay,but discovered I had a heart murder. I slipped into the "gay" life, long term relationships etc.,etc.,! I'm now 85 y.o.,have had a wonderful and full filling life! Everyone in my family knew, and I was never ashamed at admitting to being gay to friends! God has blessed me...
She's being a little rough on herself; a lot of people who recover from drug addiction gain a lot of weight. It's also likely she was on meds for the mental illness she had suffered, and they can make a person gain weight, too. She was a survivor, and she did it with class and heart.
Drug addiction. Let’s just call it what it is. Its wonderful she got off the drugs and recovered her life!! LOVE U ROSEY. What a lady being so honest!!!
it breaks my heart how many of the greatest singers were heavy smokers back then because I can hear the toll it took on their magical voices but I still loved listening to her always
I absolutely adore Rosemary Clooney and always have. I was born and have lived my entire life in Cincinnati OHIO and the Clooneys are a big deal here. Rosie's brother Nick was our local newscaster on channel 12 for many years and I adore him as well. And, by the way, he is George's father. I had the privilege of seeing Rosie live at Riverbend and she was wonderful. I never lost my love or respect for her despite her demons and hardships. I really grieved for her when she passed away.
I watch and listen while house cleaning or cooking. When “Mandy” comes on, I stop and become Vera Ellen...in my mind. I always wanted to be able to dance like her.
I remember so well, recently had lunch with my sisters ...a and the sisters song fro. White Christmas is one of our favourites.....one of my favorite old singers.....oh sotenderly
She was very enjoyable to watch and listen to....Fought hard to come back...Her 1st husband Jose may have been great in many things, but, as she said he was lousy at fidelity and he couldn't sing if his life depended on it....although he tried and hearing him sing You're just in Love with Rosie you just cringe for him....I hope she and Dante had a much happier life together!
She will always be known as my daddy’s “girlfriend “. He loved her voice and loved her persona. By the way, mom was never jealous......she loved her too.
She's a good person. Almost everyone was ruined by those damn pills in her generation. Look at Robert Crumb's childhood, his mother, for example, or Judy Garland.
Reo, She had 5 children in 6 years, was married to husband who cheated over and over, had major career, divorced and re-married the SOB, only to have him cheat again are you getting the pictures you idiot !!!
Many years ago my mother commented kind of wistfully that Rosemary started gaining weight when she was having five kids, and after awhile “she couldn’t hide behind the couch on TV anymore”. So obviously that ruse of trying to cover up her pregnancies didn’t fool her viewers! P.S. My mother had five kids too, so she understood, although she didn’t get fat.
She had a bright, delightful voice earlier on which was maybe lacking in some character, but character was in full force by the early 60s when she recorded her “Love” album and she’s as distinctive and rich as ever. Then her later aged voice was brilliant because there was more cracked emotional ache than ever that a hard life finally came in handy for. (11/22/24)
Never would have known her and Miguel were mother and son. Were they estranged? There's next to no media evidence that they were family. I knew him from Blank Check.
She seems so incredibly authentic that it's impossible not to like her.
Damn right! I couldn't have said it any better.
@@bliss9745 You’ve been fooled yet again.
Exactly right @bliss. You hit the nail on the head. 👍👏👏👏
Rosemary comes off as someone you could sit down and have a real heart to heart with. She seems quite honest with herself and not hiding where she's coming from. I like her and would have loved to have known her. What a genuine lady who survived Hollywood.
Without a doubt one of the greatest singers of all time!!
A great entertainer and a genuine Lady, there was no maudlin self pity there but a very poignant moment when the interviewer said " You always look so happy?" and her tone of voice as she says "Do I?" She faced down her demons and came back, an inspiration.

She is so missed. ❤️
If Bing said she was the best, what more can I say? Thank you for adding this clip!
Bing - a good singer but a terrible man
I absolutely am in love with Ms. Clooney. She was a no-nonsense, tell it like it is type of woman. Wherever you are Ms. Clooney, thank you!
Wait, did she just say: “I’ve given up a lot... I don’t want to give up tacos”? 😂😂😂 I want that on a T-shirt!
😂😂😂😂 I had to hear that twice!! Lol
Made me love her even more.
Tommy Lellan that line🤣❤️👌
This was before “l love tacos “ became a thing .
Aww! She loved tacos and I
Love her! Rosemary in the black dress and rhinestone gloves in White Christmas is perfection, gone too soon and missed…🌹
Brilliant interview of a truly wonderful superstar of music.
I adore her. This is a great video. Thank you for sharing with the world,.

"I've given up a lot, I don`t wanna give up tacos." She is the best.
I have been a fan since the 50s heydey but never heard her tell her story.Very sad indeed, but she ended up being a survivor.

I don't care if she gained weight....I like her and her voice period.

What a beautyful american Icon, we are all so very lucky to have been graced by her beautiful presence.
Wonderful lady, tough life.

This is my fav RC interview.
She has the same eyes as George Clooney. Beautiful family.
CLASSY, CLASSY CLASSY. She had great perspective. Perfect dream dinner would be with Rosemary and Bing. WOW !
A most rewarding interview with a totally credible person. I loved it. She was of course so great in 'White Christmas' .
I don’t remember Whitney Houston or Michael Jackson giving such candid and honest interviews about their habits
@Ella Lena they didn’t. Actually when they are THIS honest about it is only when it truly helps others
I watch and listen while house cleaning or cooking. When “Mandy” comes on, I stop and become Vera Ellen...in my mind. I always wanted to be able to dance like her.
I always loved her voice. George Clooney's aunt.
I remember so well, recently had lunch with my sisters ...a and the sisters song fro. White Christmas is one of our favourites.....one of my favorite old singers.....oh sotenderly

I love you, Rosemary.
rosemary clooney. quite the singer! listen up.
When she said “ I don’t wanna give up tacos “ I wanted to be like “we could be besties”
She seems very wistful in this interview, the only one I've seen where she touches on her weight gain.
She will always be known as my daddy’s “girlfriend “. He loved her voice and loved her persona. By the way, mom was never jealous......she loved her too.
Love Rosie.
George Clooney is the absolute double of Rosemarys brother Nick.
She was great in an episode of E.R.
I would love to have this closed captioned
Diane Sawyer- another beautiful, talented, classy Kentucky woman. 😁
She's a good person. Almost everyone was ruined by those damn pills in her generation. Look at Robert Crumb's childhood, his mother, for example, or Judy Garland.
She has that "it" factor and that voice.
i remember from the50's As aballard singer she was thebest in the busines I was in my earlt thirties and I fell in love!!
Reo,
She had 5 children in 6 years, was married to husband who cheated over and over, had major career, divorced and re-married the SOB, only to have him cheat again
are you getting the pictures you idiot !!!
She was 64 in this interview.
I'd pay good money to hear her sing stereo instructions. ❤❤❤❤
Sound inaudible
George Clooney was only 30 years old when this aired.
and he has never been as big as she was @Dexter Haven
@@MTknitter22 yeah, he watches his weight.

She was just another successful singer, easy on the ear but unremarkable, until she turned to jazz later in her career, then she became sensational
She had a bright, delightful voice earlier on which was maybe lacking in some character, but character was in full force by the early 60s when she recorded her “Love” album and she’s as distinctive and rich as ever. It makes it sound like she hadn't been successful and making records all through the 80's
9:26 Pops? Whose father is she talking about? The real killer?
Never would have known her and Miguel were mother and son. Were they estranged? There's next to no media evidence that they were family. I knew him from Blank Check.
George Clooneys aunt
Θεια του Τζωρτζ Κλουνευ!
Hot babe in her day.
wow I never knew she was a mess in life
Highly talented people usually are.
Everybody is Shane 🙃
she is the only main star from white Christmas alive
She had an affair with Nelson Riddle, they fell in love
I'm assuming the affair was with Nelson Riddle.
Diane Sawyer loves to only talk negative and air your dirty laundry.
I have one question I love and simply adore Rosemary Clooney and her music but how did she gain so much weight
Oh dear.
Tacos
gonna guess eating, but maybe you have another theory.
She addressed it -
A little clueless that she thinks not many 63 year old women go out and work!!!!!
