From the beginning to the end - there is nothing that she didn’t sing beautifully. A great singer of any type of song. She brought life and depth to everything.
I was more or less responceble for this concert , and lett me tell you how this came about. Paul Acket , the founder and organizer of the North Sea Jazz Festival asked a year before that if we had any ideas for 1981 because Ella Fitzgerald coult not come , because Norman Grantz really tryed te let Ella retire from the stage that time. So i wrote Paul a letter in witch i stated that Rosemary Clooney was making wonderful jazz albums for Concord , has he not heard of that ? I told him that , because he had the Concord Super Band that year , he should bring Rosemary to the festival , let her sing with the Concord Super Band in the PWA-Hall , that is the mean hall at the Congresgebouw where the festival was held in those days. I could not believe my eyes when i saw the line-up a few monds later , there it was , Rosemary Clooney with the Concord All Stars , the was the Concord Super Band added with Al Cohn , two concerts in the PWA-Hall. And Paul told me later that indeed it was that letter that gave him the idea. I am still very proud i did write that letter , and later i learned that this for her was also a dream coming true , because finally she was accepted as a jazz-singer , and performing at the world's leading Jazz Festival. And i was there , offcourse i was there twice , both the concerts were great , she did not let us down , and what a great way off capturing these concerts , bring it out on a CD and DVD! The North Sea Jazz Festival das that you know.
Mr Cornelis Peters, let me tell you that you are my personal hero after readin' your explanation about how this concert comes true. And I agree. I hope that someday, the whole two concerts program come out on cd, DVD or another support. Such a geat performance!!!
Bless you. My friends think of "White Christmas," which is ok, but I keep saying, check out her CDs after 1990. Mercy! The phrasing. Saw her in person three times. O my, the phrasing! ... but I said that.
Thank you! Check out Rosie's recording of the great American song book with many of these musicians. Scott Hamilton and Dave McKenna are my all-time favorites.
@hartnell1000 Thank you for your nice comment. Still, Rosemary Clooney sold millions and millions of records all over the world. She has always been extremely popular ,worldwide, and she was never underestimated in any way.
i do too ! there is such genuine enjoyment of what they're doing, you can tell at the finish how joyful she is. they are all obviously first class musicians, and her timing and phrasing has to be god-given. but that genuine feel is what always struck me, the 5 times i saw her live her in Detroit
Funny expressions on both .. super job at both ends. I like the smiles on both artists faces!!! 1/3/2023. Jo-ANN. LAMONICA. AMERICA. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

The magic between Rosie and Warren is unique !
Rosie was a much better singer than most people gave her credit for. This is just sublime.
The joys of intelligent lyrics and clear melodic line and good diction - thanks for posting

I love how the trumpeter (is that Warren Vache?) keeps an eye on her while he plays - so good together!

Rose is just swinging it and in that wonderful relaxed style with great tone and timing from the horn.

This is what music is supposed to sound like not the trash that has been playing for the past 30 years
