Also I forgot to mention- if you choose to do XR & want to get your MR/CT/Mammo license you have to be cross trained & take the exam for each and every license you want to acquire. Also keeping up with the CEs (continued education) + renewing each license! You can find out more on www.arrt.org

You're welcome! I noticed a lot of healthcare jobs are physically demanding in some way esp the patient care based ones but I always take precautions for my body when lifting/carrying as well as care of myself outside of work 🙂

Mimi, did you attend a community college to obtain your credentials as an MRI technologist? Or a private college?

Thanks for sharing! General question, do you work to live or live to work? Currently an MR student and want a job that allows for plenty of time off. Also, how often do you have to start iv’s?

This is something that is hard to answer because every job is different and getting certain jobs might be harder unless you have a connect. Hope you find a job that gives you plenty of time off. But don’t burn your bridges either. And I used to do them all the time, every patient I did it. Now, I don’t have to bc the nurses do it.

@@MimiLe Right on. That’s good information, just wanted to get an idea of what it’s like in the workforce. Thanks!

I also just mentioned the burning bridges because I heard that someone denied work from one of their clinical rotation sites because they didn’t give them the hours they wanted… word got around and it was hard for that student to get a job post grad. I didn’t get my ideal schedule for a long time but it is what it is, however I was grateful I got a job before I even finished school let alone 2 offers. You have to not look at healthcare so much all about you all the time when you’re starting out. But hey you might get lucky and get your dream job, dream schedule right out of school. But be prepared to know you may have to build experience and skills before you can call the shots on what you can ask for sometimes and that’s okay! A lot of jobs are like that if you think about it.

@@MimiLe Definitely agree! Yeah I was going to say I’ll take the first job offer considering I’ll be new in the field and want to build my skills before asking for long vacations haha. That’s some bad news for that person and hopefully it’ll be smooth finding a job after graduation.

Thanks for the video. Are rad techs exposed to high levels of radiation and can they get cancer because of it. ?
