It's hard to believe that there were still people in the Keys. What were they thinking? Edit: bloody hell, there's still people in there. God protect them all!
Wow, this was the most interesting 26 min. TV reporting I seen in a decade. Great reporter, working with a vast array of unique, interesting everyday people. ..Luv those folks, intelligent & honest.
Agreed. I am so over newscasters behind the desk talking. They bring ZERO to the newscast. Also, I like the way it wasn't jumping from story to story. Just stay on the ONE thing we want to actually see. We dont want a bunch of "energy" with this reporting.
It's because you're talking to the general public in that populated area you're getting personal encounters and personal stories from real people and that's what makes it so interesting for me anyways
I'm have a degree in journalism although I'm not working as a journalist. I'm really enjoying this man's report and interviews with locals. This is serious old school style reporting. I wish this was more commonplace nowadays. It's really cool to see this kind of reporting on TV again.
Great comment! Yes you don't see things like this anymore from the news - reactions from real people and their point of view. All you see is elite narcissist sociopath talking heads giving their opinions in their designer studios. This footage was the best coverage I've seen all day.
I'm not op but the journalists used to do interviews with normal citizens to see how they felt about a topic in order to see how people are thinking. The new way is using short soundbytes if they interview people at all. They cut up and edit interviews to make things seem exciting and controversial or to frame the story to support whatever narrative they have already decided on.
I visited the keys in the 80s when there was just some rain and we were waist deep in water, cars could not even be driven. So it really takes nothing to flood. Many prays! God bless!
I can't believe people are staying even tho this storm is deadly and the chance that that they will be in arms way. It's crazy, just look at the islands and what happen
I live far far away from USA, we're in south east Asia but just watching this made me nerveous too...oh and last minutes decision to leave key west, just wow! i hope all of you can reach save place on time. Be safe guys!
TSUNAMI many people were in panic mode and filled up which caused the gas stations to run out. Everyone was afraid we would run out. Which then caused the gas stations to run out. Also they closed the gas lines in the south because of Hurricane Harvey, they are not going to open back up until mid September, this is adding to the panic.
Praying for Floridians, with love from Canada! Loved those two guys who stayed behind to help others, big-hearted, and praying Godspeed to you, to get to safety, you earned it!!
Y'all are so hypocritical. Some of these people have nowhere else to go, some may not have the funds to leave. Some may not want to leave their homes. We just need to pray for them instead of talking 💩
Theresa Darrow The government gave people in evacuation areas who couldn't leave transportation they took people out by buses there's no excuse why your still there I usually agree but this time it's their fault they already evacuated all the town's Wednesday .. even told them to call if they needed gas for their cars please watch the press conferences
The point of the analogy is the illogical nature of staying on an island that's only 3-5 ft above sea level when storm surges are expected to be 6-10ft surges. Staying on such an island is very much akin to holding on to a rock and trying to swim through a storm.
boo yah : Obviously it's illogical to stay on an island about to be pummeled by (so far) the most devastating hurricane in documented history. While I agree with your assessment, because that would be absolutely asinine; the manner his statement was used doesn't jive with your definition. ;)
I suspect that most of the people busy in the run-up to an event like this, including cops and reporters, are functioning on an odd mix of exhaustion and adrenaline, which can muddle reactions. So I try not to read too much into mannerisms that are likely caused by those reactions.
boo yah : I agree, I think it could have been stress that caused the mistake. I just wonder if he noticed the reaction from the man he said that to. The guy looked at him like _whaaaa?_ Yet, he was polite enough not to say anything. God bless those people and keep them safe, because the storm is coming!
"I'm actually pretty popular" lol. Hope they all stay safe I will pray for every single person! I know i know a prayer isn't much but it's all I can do. My heart is torn for the ppl that have decided to stay and ride out the storm.
This guy is the best reporter I've seen in decades: calm, smart, curious, and on the street investigating by talking and actually listening to people! wow
wow, what great great reporting by david sutta and the camera man. Respectful, thoughtful, informative. Clearly he has empathy, while keeping impartiality. The young lady with the conk mom, made me understand why people might stay. David clearly more in tune with the human side of things.
I am in prayer with those who are having to move into shelters. Please don't stay in your homes. That's material and can be replaced. Value your life over things.... God bless you all from Tangie in Colorado...
Why don't they put tankers of gas along the highway and for those ppl that want to leave can fill up it would help move the traffic. There you go Trump put that in place of you never done anything in this short time do something good.
Please get out of the school, don't stay, don't stay. Just help each other and drive drive drive to Florida, to a concrete building, get up stairs, third floor. Florida is better then where you are.
I used to visit a house on key West highest point. It's probably a Shell Mound. It's hidden in Old Town. But you can notice a slight elevation, it's about 13 feet above waterline, in 1990.
wonderful reporter equals wonderful reporting where I am from the caribbean we weren't affected like my neighbours and my heart goes out to them why why would those in the keys stay through this?why risk it?
Pay attention news stations this is how you report on scene live with people that are going through it not behind a desk reading reports.. Best news reporting I have ever seen
That is the problem when you are the one who is giving the information to remove oneself from danger, but many times, the one giving the information actually do not see that they are a part of that "get out NOW" and so, having the order from the chief etc, I guess is really "oh my goodness me"! Kind of reaction. Also, the reporters are going to have to stop reporting and hope this guy and others, have immediate removal for their safety.
Suzanne Whitehead yeah for real all these ppl who are leaving now are playing with fire I don't know how long this has been up but my god they have atmost a hour or 2 before that storm actually hits from the way it looks
I am in France ( not French) and my heart is bashing. I am aware of a sense of "time ticking away" and feel so sorry for all those who have to deal with this.
We don't need to hear dribble from the anchor. In interviewing Ebony though, he asked about her dog's name but not her kid's. Ebony chose to ensure her child's safety by leaving, despite her older relatives' choice to stay. She eloquently summarized the attitude of those who choose to live in the Keys. I hope all is well with them.
A little upset by the ones taking shots at Dade. They were told since TUESDAY get out!!! They didn't want to listen. There was plenty of gas now last minute they're mad that there isn't enough? That's not our fault that's yours for waiting until the day of the storm to ship out.
Hell if I didn't have the money to leave as soon as I heard it was coming to FL I'd have walked as far as I could or ask for rides til I left the state. With so many people leaving getting a ride wouldn't be hard. Especially from friends. I pray FL people stay safe.
Prayers for Chicago, Mexico, Miami , California. Judi Grace StoryCorps . If I had the authority, I would have starting flying out people the first day for free to the other 49 states, put them in studio apartments, and give them laptops to start working online coding etc to pay for their upkeep They could bring pets. people can adopt a person or family as a group or individually. Treat others the way you want to be treated, because it may be your state next. I had a super nice lady, that stayed with me in Illinois, until her grand daughter sent for her to come to California. We still stay in touch. she was from New Orleans during Katrina. Give to the people and not Red Crook the double cross.
Praying for everyone in Florida! And everyone around the world going through natural desasters like mexico with the earthquake. Praying for god to protect every person and animal! I can't believe Harvey now irma! This is end times. I'm scared so scared for our world!
This reporter is showing real respect for the people he is interviewing, but not the two anchors in the studio. What a shame. There is no need for their snarky and arrogant comments.
Duval street in downtown Key West floods on a high tide. Definitely time to go. Hotel folks tell me that the nearest available rooms are in Savanna Georgia.
He could just set up a camera and have it livestream somewhere. That's how a lot of people are safely getting footage of the storm in the Keys. He could compile his own livestream with other people's for his documentary.
Thinking those who waited will have an easier time getting to where they are planning to go as traffic has most likely mellowed out some. Praying for their safety.
It's south Florida so it's interesting knowing that all of this is going into the ocean over the next 100 years as West Antarctica responds to the warmth. In the past centuries people would not know this stuff in advance which is why it's interesting and new to have this knowledge in advance.

Great reporting, David, Letting people tell their stories without judging. Life is complex, everyone has their unique reasons for staying or going.
It's hard to believe that there were still people in the Keys. What were they thinking? Edit: bloody hell, there's still people in there. God protect them all!
Why should god protect them from the hurricane he sent them.
Thrill junkies that want to leave at the very last moment before it hits Keys.
haha nice one franklin.
i dont get all these religioius nuts. still prayin while saying its god's warth. damn brainwashing is real!
They're dumb, they were given a week in advance to leave, yet did nothing.
This is the strongest one yet.
you guys are doing a great job with up to the minute information!! thanks
What a great idea man, lets just not even talk about it until it hits, 10/10 plan.
Wow, this was the most interesting 26 min. TV reporting I seen in a decade. Great reporter, working with a vast array of unique, interesting everyday people. ..Luv those folks, intelligent & honest.
Pablo11209 u have ro be kidding...those are looters...in Texas they came from Michigan in droves...bunch of filthy leeches
Drive 100 miles, 42 bridges, single lane, ..to loot? Michigan to Texas, ..to loot? ..are you taking your Meds? ..the gasoline isn't worth it, even for leeches.
Pablo11209 I'm actually 10 mins in and it's still interesting.
I'm have a degree in journalism although I'm not working as a journalist. I'm really enjoying this man's report and interviews with locals. This is serious old school style reporting. I wish this was more commonplace nowadays. It's really cool to see this kind of reporting on TV again.
MiamiPush2theLimit agreed!

I'm in the UK...great reporting guys. Please be safe xx
This reporter is sooooo nice! Great reporting!
I visited the keys in the 80s when there was just some rain and we were waist deep in water, cars could not even be driven. So it really takes nothing to flood. Many prays! God bless!
I hope every single person and pet in this video lives to see another day... stay strong & stay safe!

That was some excellent reporting. Thank you. Be safe.
I can't believe people are staying even tho this storm is deadly and the chance that that they will be in arms way. It's crazy, just look at the islands and what happen

They are actually lucky that there's gas, in Texas they ran out of gas everywhere. We are still out of gas in many parts. Even all the way in Dallas
TX . Is
Rich oil state how come yuo run out . Maybe God punishment .
Stacie Ellis That's surprising considering all the oil refineries that are their.
Stacie Ellis All gas stations in Broward and Miami are drained.
Stacie Ellis - TBF majority of Texans drive some pick ass trucks while Floridians just drive mid size sedans.
Theresa Darrow yes I agree
Some people are living day to day and have no savings.
Some people don't have a choice.
Prayers for them
Theresa Darrow The government gave people in evacuation areas who couldn't leave transportation they took people out by buses there's no excuse why your still there I usually agree but this time it's their fault they already evacuated all the town's Wednesday .. even told them to call if they needed gas for their cars please watch the press conferences
Wow. Great reporting. Very interesting but really scared for everyone. God bless Florida !!!
"hold on to a rock and swim through this"? That's...well...that has to be one of the most illogical analogies he could have come up with. lol
The point of the analogy is the illogical nature of staying on an island that's only 3-5 ft above sea level when storm surges are expected to be 6-10ft surges. Staying on such an island is very much akin to holding on to a rock and trying to swim through a storm.

boo yah : I agree, I think it could have been stress that caused the mistake. I just wonder if he noticed the reaction from the man he said that to. I used to visit a house on key West highest point. It's probably a Shell Mound. It's hidden in Old Town. But you can notice a slight elevation, it's about 13 feet above waterline, in 1990.
In 24 hours those buildings could be gone.

Great reporting style. Much appreciated
The crazy part is, is that people will take advantage of no cops.
That is the problem when you are the one who is giving the information to remove oneself from danger, but many times, the one giving the information actually do not see that they are a part of that "get out NOW" and so, having the order from the chief etc, I guess is really "oh my goodness me"! marusak72 I feel he wants do this for money but his wife is smarter that's why they are leaving.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
He could just set up a camera and have it livestream somewhere. That's how a lot of people are safely getting footage of the storm in the Keys. He could compile his own livestream with other people's for his documentary.
marusak72 self proclaimed important guy.
Just ask him.
Thinking those who waited will have an easier time getting to where they are planning to go as traffic has most likely mellowed out some. Praying for their safety.
It's south Florida so it's interesting knowing that all of this is going into the ocean over the next 100 years as West Antarctica responds to the warmth. In the past centuries people would not know this stuff in advance which is why it's interesting and new to have this knowledge in advance.
i love the guy who is a photographer making videos with a tee saying up photography
God protect the people in Florida and on the Keys
A number of people who thought they would ride out Hurricane Ike in 08 found out they had made a fatal mistake in judgement.
Denial or fright flight - snap out of it. Team up in vehicles and LEAVE the KEYS
Be safe everyone!
I wish everybody would just leave if there's still a chance. I don't want anyone to go through what my family had experienced during Hurricane Haiyan in Philippines. The traumatic experienced that my son had witnessed would be with him for the rest of his life. Please, God the Father save all the people in Florida, In Jesus name, Amen!
the show must go on ..
Key people get the heck out with Your pets!
There will always be people who stay in the hurricanes path just because they can
