We had the same issue, we had spare deep cycle marine batteries with an inverter so we could keep all our phones and cameras charged. Finally got our internet back last Saturday and was able to post. So glad you came through this, we were worried about you and all our friends in the keys.
Ha-ha 1st morning says "it's 7:30 I'm alive" :-D funny. A big thank you Steve for such a looong video, it shows everything and covers just about any questions we had. We are happy to hear the Patreon contributions surprised you as we intended. If you look back past couple of videos, there was a few of us reposting your link for others to find. QUESTION: is there a way we can give an additional '1 time' contribution without affecting our monthly level???
We Live In Indian Rocks (St.Petersburgh Area) I Was Going To Put A Video Together Of Our Irma Experience. But I Thought It Would Be Too Long. So I'm Happy That You Did This!
Nice Vid showing how Key West coped with Irma but cant help but feel for the People in the Mid Keys where they didnt fare so well. I think You dodged a bullet My friend. Its good to see You & Key West are OK Steve. Thanks for sharing, Graham.
great to see you back in full force steve, hoping to tun into you in may when im down for a week, until then stay safe and keep the positive vibes rolling!
Yea, we are up and running again. Pretty much all utilities are up in my area so really moving forward to getting back to normal again. 25-30 miles up the Keys is a different story.
Great video thanks for sharing! After what happened in our neighborhood with just the Storm surge from Hurricane Sandy in South Jersey, I'm surprised anything is left in Key West with the size of that storm. Looks like our trip to Key West in November will still happen. Thanks again and stay well!
glad things went good for you Steve. Our Florida vacation place on big pine key didn't fare well. we stay at old wooden bridge near no name key. office and marina wiped completely away. but we'll be down in late Feb regardless so I can pursue those mangrove snapper...tight lines
Yea, I heard the camp was gone. The good thing is that it really wouldn't take too much to get it back up again. A stack of prefabs and they are up and running in no time.
I am glad to see you are back and OK. We had planned to come to the Keys and then go fishing in Everglades City but the hurricane stopped that. It's a pity as fishing in Florida was on my bucket list. Looks like I will have to plan another US vacation from Australia.
Bummer. The Everglades are amazing. Excellent fishing. Definitely reschedule. Maybe stay in the Upper Keys around Key Largo or Islamorada and then you can get some of the Keys life and all of the guide trips run you out to the everglades as well.
"The good thing about getting here first; you can just make it your neighbors problem." Lol. Classic. Love your channel, man. Glad you made this major motion picture to put things into perspective- because the national news* was....off. At least for here in FtMyers. Keep up the good work, man!
Yea, I figured it would be easier for the people who just wanted fishing videos and those who were interested in the Hurricane stuff. Yea, the news really made it rough for people. I wonder how many people died in traffic accidents and stress because of all the "everyone is going to die" broadcasts.
I understand most coastal living people get upset at the media when a hurricane comes through and they are predicting gloom and doom and heavy evacuations, and target the heaviest hit areas...but this is definitely not specifically meant to be a rating booster. They film and report from these hardest-hit areas in hopes of creating action among donation bases like Red Cross, Salvation Army, faith-based groups, Cajun Navy, emergency teams, etc etc. Also, it's generally better if they err on the side of caution when stating evacuations...as it does indeed save lives. These storms can be unpredictable. So while you dodged a bullet with Irma, it doesn't mean that next time there wouldn't be 10' of water in your living room from the next one. These things can track almost the same up to the point of when people are losing power, then changes direction again, and they never see it coming till it's too late. So please be mindful that these reporters and newsgathering crews are doing their best to protect people and property as they can. They are often the point of contact for relief and donation groups helping out at the same time. I had friends in Marathon that had lived there for decades and survived all the previous storms. They were assuming they could ride it out. They had massive surge swells come through their home. (Cudjoe Key had 10' surges). They lost everything.
I had a friend in Tampa. Storm was coming right at him. By the time it hit, he didn't even take any video, since there wasn't really any damage in his area. Oh yeah, there was some damage as described by him. A bag of Oreo's got decimated. I actually recognized some of the places as you were riding around on your bike. I've only been around the Mallory Square area at night, looks way different during the day. Especially with no tourists. :)
I live in key west in the middle 50's. 4th and 5th grade. Quite town then. Fun place for a kid. Navy still had sub base there. Lived on Eagle Ave. Wonder how the houses held up there and if the elementary school still there.
You actually got extremely lucky.. The keys could've been completely destroyed considering the forecast of that storm. I was just there in Key West & Key Colony, they're still cleaning up damage.
Nice video footage man. My place is right in that flood zone but its 4 steps up so everything should be fine. Doesn't look bad at all. Now some buddies of mine that live in Big Pine....pure devastation. 9 ft surge in their house. Boats strewn inside mangroves. Pretty bad for them man. Key west got lucky. I'll probably be heading down there in a couple days.
Yea, I couldn't find a really damaged house in all of Key West. Your yard might be a mess but structure wise, I really doubt any issues. Yea, Cudjoe up to Tavernier got hit pretty hard, but a lot of those structures are pretty weak to start with. Lots of trailers and prefabs. See you around. I am back to fishing.
Very good video. I've been to Key West and Big Pine several times over the years. Good to see the damage is not total and the video provides people a realistic idea of what happened. Thanks.(what make of video camera did you use for your intro: really good)
"Yeah man it's looting time!" "What'd you get?" "I got a Big screen TV, a bunch of jewelry to sell, and lik 5 Iphone 10s. What about you?" "I got a waffle maker bro!" *Everyone suddenly gets jealous* Joke aside, I'm glad Key west came through intact, the other lower keys will take time to clean up, but hopefully developers don't seize on the chance and turn the last few affordable houses into luxury condos.
You need to drive further up the Key because they have been destroyed. Key West hardly got any damage, but most of the keys devastated. Hundreds of homes and boats destroyed.
I did it! :D Have a nice day! Also, I really enjoy your videos! My father lived in Finland, and he used to enjoy fishing a lot. These videos are super nostalgic. :D
Did you see the place that has all the money stapeled to the building. Curious how that held up. Glad your doing good. Keys got hit pretty good. Awesome vid.
It is still there. Looks like they had some roof issues but you can still see all of the bills stapled to the pillars that are showing. They were not open nor were they working at it for the moment. We won't have any tourists for months so no big rush for businesses.
Hi, we came over from the UK for a Keys tour but had to abandon it due to Irma's mandatory evacuation. :-( We're determined to come back in 2018 (outside the hurricane season this time in spring!). Any tips on the best time for a fishing trip please? Vince
Year round in the Keys. I like September and early fall. But there are always fish around. Spring can be a bit windy and unpredictable but that doesn't stop the fishing, just the comfort level.
Why aren't they utilizing the 100Mw backup generator on Stock Island, instead of waiting for the "extension cord" from Turkey Point to get plugged back in?
Yea, 25 miles up and it was a different story. Although, that is when you start seeing a lot more of the mobile homes and prefab style housing that really is not made for any real storms. Hope he gets back up and running soon.
Try to upload at your local college, I uploaded a 30ish minute video (rendered at max settings - 2 1/2 hours rendering time ) that was just over 39 gigs in less than an hour using there internet connection. You will have to get a large USB drive and re-format it to ExFat format so you can put a file larger than 4 gigs on it.... Just youtube how to do it, takes like a minute to do. Years ago 2005 my college had two T1 lines I have no Idea if they have upgraded but there upload speed is lightning fast.
I prefer making fishing videos not music videos. Do you ever actually see any of that stuff happening when you are out on the water? I generally don't hear anything except the wind and the waves.
Cable lines seemed to be the main thing that took a beating around here. But I guess their main lines were fine and those whose house lines were downed got it back up. AT&T down here took about four days to get down here but when they did it was a crap load of trucks. They got it up and they all moved on. Except for the slow start, pretty impressive.
They got people worried on their first try when they dropped off a couple of pallets at Sugarloaf and not much more for Key west. They were out in minutes. Plus it was just MRE's no water. After that, they got the military shipments in and then they were able to ramp things up really quickly. Just the first couple of days were a bit rocky, but they are handling stuff really well now.
Well I'm glad my sister and husband left because they live on Summerland Key and cudjoe key and Big Pine took big hits total Destruction can't believe my sister's house was still there they had to leave a car there that was trashed it was a nice convertible they went to Miami to a hurricane proof place with a swimming pool on the roof air conditioning the whole schmear but they weren't coming back down to the keys until there was air conditioning they're used to the heat but no not without air conditioning you can't sleep in the house without it you can't do anything without it and you had to wait for power to come back on to they stayed away for a month three weeks to a month but when they saw a Big Pine and cudjoe key there must have been so many tornadoes that blew through on those islands that beautiful beach that's at the end of the 7 Mile Bridge before you get the Big Pine that beautiful beach was totally destroyed it was life-changing for a lot of people I guess you were lucky to be on Key West but I saw so many boats up on land it wasn't like there was no damage just because you're on land doesn't mean everybody else lives on land right Steve? I'm going to watch this probably tomorrow to see what you see what I saw was downright frightening!!! I know what a category 1 hurricane can do my mom lives on Long Beach Island New Jersey it's a Barrier island with one Bridge on and off it's only three blocks wide everybody's houses were mostly affected anything that was on ground level was trash everybody's driveways was filled with insulation drywall cuz of mold you couldn't get onto the island until 2 weeks after the hurricane hit, where my mom lives the ocean didn't come up over the dunes but when the hurricane came ashore and passed over the island there's a large Bay and it pushed all that water from the bay right up onto the island it was unbelievable nobody was there only people with pets who live in three-story homes stayed and that came at that end of October and it was chilly there was no electricity for a quite a while my mom was taking freezing cold showers and that water is not the same as turning on the cold tap in Key West where it comes out 85 degrees and it got chilly after the hurricane up here usually when they pass by or go ashore always cold air follows especially at the end of October there's no heat or anything no refrigerators no nothing took awhile to get power on, anyway I'm going to watch this video I'm curious to see what you saw? I know around my sisters Islands nothing but dead iguanas everywhere and that was really sad.
I like your positive attitude, preparedness, and work ethic. Good job. I'm glad it worked out well for you.
Great work. Great coverage of what happened as it happened. Glad you're safe and survived with minimal damage. Thanks!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad the Island is still there
I love listening to you speak about describe, and explain everything 😊
This man Steve is a treasure lol.
Your strong spirit and positive attitude is quite refreshing.
Glad to see you back. I'm watching this on my phone because Comcast in Marathon is no where to be found.
We had the same issue, we had spare deep cycle marine batteries with an inverter so we could keep all our phones and cameras charged. Finally got our internet back last Saturday and was able to post. So glad you came through this, we were worried about you and all our friends in the keys.
Glad to see you're OK and all is well look forward to seeing you back on the water

Thanks. We are back on the water.
Great video man! You deserve so many more subscribers! Keep The Good work
Appreciate it.
Good to hear life is getting back to normal. I have a friend who's a guide and his place is in bad shape down there.

I like how you show compassion to the chickens and kitty cats
💞💫
Looks like a fun time after the storm! During times like these, it's good to be a a renter!
Exactly. Just walk away. That is why my stress level is much lower than most.
Nice Vid showing how Key West coped with Irma but cant help but feel for the People in the Mid Keys where they didnt fare so well. I think You dodged a bullet My friend. Its good to see You & Key West are OK Steve. Thanks for sharing, Graham.
That's my boat in your thumbnail picture :-(

I went to Maine instead. Next time....
Glad you are back and OK. Sorry for the people on the boats at Shark Channel.
Turned out to be false. There was a plane that did go down around the 7-mile bridge.
maybe a solar powered charger would be good for a keys resident? glad to have you back!
Great video Steve, thanks for sharing.

Great video. This is a time when a CB radio would come in handy.
Towers down. We could get one radio station and some stations in Cuba. I couldn't even get anything on my VHF.
i remember painting alot of those buildings in the flood zone near strunks hardware....whoa

Yea, just a bit of on the ground life without an agenda.
This is still good for you, after all this, Nothing can stop you go fishing.
Thanks. It is time.
Nice job. Keep it up.

I am going to watch the entirety of this lol
It is kind of a challenge. LOL. No skipping. I will know.

Thanks for sharing I will be on Marathon at Thanksgiving let's go fishing?
Hi, we came over from the UK for a Keys tour but had to abandon it due to Irma's mandatory evacuation. :-(
We're determined to come back in 2018 (outside the hurricane season this time in spring!).
Any tips on the best time for a fishing trip please? Vince

NEED HELP! I'm flying to Key West tomorrow on a small plane with some supplies. Need to figure out who will receive them???
Depends on what the supplies are. Lots of organizations will be working out of the airport so sure be able to guide you depending on what you have.
Food mostly. I will call the airport and see what they say... if you have any names that would help!
Nice! 1h!
And the streets have not been this empty for the last 5 years
Great video from the inside. people make it sound like a bomb was dropped and the hole place is was destroyed
Yea, great tv and views for them but they will kill our economy. All for ratings.
Why aren't they utilizing the 100Mw backup generator on Stock Island, instead of waiting for the "extension cord" from Turkey Point to get plugged back in?
Too many lines and poles down. We did get to use the desalination plant though. That supplemented the water for a while.
Dude that storm was no joke, my cousin lives down there and his business was destroyed
Yea, 25 miles up and it was a different story. Although, that is when you start seeing a lot more of the mobile homes and prefab style housing that really is not made for any real storms. Hope he gets back up and running soon.
nice movie when its going to be on dvd >>lol good stuff
I am hoping for an Oscar bid. Holding my breath....
lol glad your back man keep going
10 gig upload in 2 or 3 hours? WHAT?
I wish. 8 hours rendering time and probably about the same to upload.
Key West got minimal damage most was up by BIG Pine and Marathon.
Since your data is unlimited(maybe) now, does that mean we might get some live videos while fishing or messing around or anything?
This guy is asking the real questions
Will try ti fubd some spots with cell coverage that can handle streaming. It gets spotty in areas where I fish and need to test it out.
I've been wondering how the manatees in the area did. Has there been a significant loss of manatees in the area?
U should work on an good intro like monster mike with music just saying would be nice 👍🏼
Love ur vids either way
I prefer making fishing videos not music videos. Do you ever actually see any of that stuff happening when you are out on the water? I generally don't hear anything except the wind and the waves.
woooo watched the whole thing lol
I told you it was a movie. LOL. Thanks for watching. It took twenty hours to edit, render, and upload.
It seems to be necessary to cut all tall trees and change it all to short trees.
what microphone do u use? sounds pretty clear!
I used my Iphone 7 on this one.
i do see you wearing a mic sometimes, would u have some info on that?
No internet for us just yet and I just ran out of data I don't know what taking AT&T so long
Cable lines seemed to be the main thing that took a beating around here. But I guess their main lines were fine and those whose house lines were downed got it back up. AT&T down here took about four days to get down here but when they did it was a crap load of trucks. They got it up and they all moved on. Except for the slow start, pretty impressive.

My family in puerto rico going true hurricane maria, right now,..
Prayers for them. They and the VI have been taking a beating this month.
I hope the chickens are all good :o
Them and the cat were fine. I found no carcasses anywhere and they were out in gangs scavenging for food and begging. LOL.
Is that a six toed cat?
I always forget to check that.
15:36 its dexter!
Fishing right around 1 hour 10 minutes for those who care.
LoL. Thanks for doing that.
Don't worry, I watched the whole thing. #addicted. Was just following instructions in your video :)
Where you impressed with the FEMA response?
They got people worried on their first try when they dropped off a couple of pallets at Sugarloaf and not much more for Key west. They were out in minutes. Plus it was just MRE's no water. After that, they got the military shipments in and then they were able to ramp things up really quickly. Just the first couple of days were a bit rocky, but they are handling stuff really well now.
I used to have that same hat
I got it from my neighbor who was throwing it out.
