The first time I dressed vintage was my senior year in HS where I dressed as if it was 1958. I never felt so confident in my life and I never looked back since. Keep being YOU Laci!
My cousin (b 1958, just to give you some idea of his era) went to his high school grad wearing a leisure suit as one did in those days. 😆 Many decades later, his son wore the same leisure suit to his grad. I thought it was great!
My little grandson was climbing all over my couch pretending to be Spiderman while I watched this video. He looked up, saw you on the tv, and froze. He said "Princess! Look! Princess, Nana!". Then he went back to jumping off of the back of my couch. For a few seconds though you managed to mesmerize a 3 year old Spiderman. 😊

Some of your high school photos, you actually look like a 70s girl. Late-60s through 70s. Kinda hippie. You're an 80s baby that looked 70s in the 90s. Then 50s girl by the 2010s. You're the best time traveler I know.

80"s kid here too 🍓❤! I still have my Strawberry Shortcake dolls too 😄. My favorite was at Christmas time. I could always tell if my present was Strawberry Shortcake doll because I could smell the scent through the wrapping paper 😅.

I dress in gypsy bohemian skirts and peasant blouses along with velvet and satin clothes. I also was a cowgirl and enjoyed wearing my boots and cowboyhat. I began dressing retro at the end of high school. By then, I was curvy and not concerned with “fitting in.” My mom had kept her trousseau and the wonderful pieces became my wardrobe. My fav was a double breasted gray wool suit that had red wine velvet lapels and cuffs. The shoulder pads in the jacket in contrast to the pencil skirt was pure fashion chemistry. My constant trolling of thrift shops for a pair of shoes was rewarded by finding red wine leather sling backs
You look beautiful in every picture but the red short waved cut you sport now suits you SO SO WELL....everything about it...the length, the waves, the COLOR, etc suit you PERFECTLY. ❤
I was also into Strawberry Shortcake. I had the dolls, the bicycle, the shampoo (until I found out I was allergic to it) and conditioner. Great video. And you are correct, the only rule is do what makes you feel happy.
There should be more people with your outlook. Although I don't dress in this period of clothing, I do have some cars and a lot of electrical goods from the 1950's and 60's... all items are repairable and rebuildable, so they literally last for many decades - even longer. We had a 1950's dance at our high school, so I had to make a full circle skirt with petticoat. Have also loved 1920's through to 1970s fashion. I was lucky enough to wear my mom's 1940's clothes, including a tailored suit, was wearing it in the 1980's. Sold all to a vintage store so it would continue to live on. The 1970's style I liked was more boho, hippie style than the paisley and crazy patterns and colours. I love your style Laci.
Awwww, you were the cutest kid! I love how you have a journey to find your ‘happy place’ doll! I agree with what you say, vintage style is a very personal thing & I love how folks pop their own spin on it! You look stunning as ever my friend Xx 😘
It was fun to see your vintage style evolution! I would love to see a video where you compare the 1950s homemaker style vs Hollywood style. It's something I've never really thought about before.
Omg, Laci...I just stumbled across your channel and I'm in love!!! Love your style, and your class. Keep on rockin' those adorable vintage clothes. These new trashier fashionistas could learn a thing or two about true class and feminism by watching you and those like you. I totally want that dress your wearing in this vid. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your video made me squeal with delight as soon as I saw Strawberry Shortcake on your dress. As some who loves vintage and Strawberry Shortcake this dress is perfect. I don't know if you know it, but a few years back Sanrio did a Hello Kitty and Strawberry Shortcake collection. I figured as someone who also grew up in the 80's you would like that.
Adorable little Laci photos. We all have been on a journey with style and comfort levels through the years. Your inner and outer beauty radiate in your ensembles. You found your vintage home 💗🌸🥰
Interesting the way you shared your evolution. I enjoy your channel as I was born in 1944 and lived through the 50’s as a young child and the 60’s as a teenager. Like some of the other comments below your video, I often lament how people dress like bums these days. When I was married in 1966, my husband and I flew to Chicago for our honeymoon and I wore a two piece off white shirt with matching top and coat as well as a hat with a whimsy veil. My husband wore a suit, white shirt and tie on the plane! People used to dress up when they traveled on planes and I’ve remarked these days they look like they just finished cleaning their basement and went to the airport!! People these days say it’s all about “comfort” but we felt comfortable when we looked the part o adults. Some might say these days I still look “matching/matching” but that is my style, and I can’t change it. I would’ve be me if I wore any old thing. I no longer match my shoes with my purse but my clothes are coordinated and I hate the “distressed” jeans people wear. I cannot wait for that style to pass away!
Style is always a relative thing. I’ve always been a little jealous of women’s fashion- lots of accessories, many more options. The men’s suit hasn’t changed so much. Lapels get bigger or ties get skinnier but the basic form of it hasn’t changed much. I love the comfort of shorts and a t-shirt but there’s nothing like the thrill of getting a suit made for you specifically or putting on a tailored, made to fit shirt and adding a nice set of cuff links, maybe a vintage tie that looks really cool or (if it’s your thing), finding a vintage butterfly collar shirt or a pastel tuxedo with the ruffled shirts. Style will always be subjective and it always comes back. However, I think we can all agree that polyester is NOT the most comfortable of fabrics! 😂
Thank you Laci! It was so fun to watch and hear your evolution of style. I'm still finding my comfort zone. As a trainer I find all of my work clothes have spilled into personal and looks like I'm corporate all day. But I'd love to explore more comfortable vintage peices. Thanks again !!
Hi Laci, Jennifer here! I LOVED Strawberry Shortcake too! In fact, I had quite a number of items in my childhood that I wish I still had. I do still have my lunch box, even if it is rusting and in a bit of bad shape. But I had the Bakery set/house, sheets, wall art, plastic mini figurines, watched every TV special, and even had the Strawberry Shortcake Exercise record!! Yeah that was something that would be hard to find now, lol. Thanks for the trip back in time!! I was born in 74 so many of those past photos brought back memories of some good and "interesting" times of growing up. Great video....as always!
*11:53* You auditioned for American Idol? We gotta hear your singing voice! Be cool to watch a 50s vintage girl sing a 70s, 80s, or 90s song. The only one I knew before you who dressed vintage was Dita Von Teese.
That was fun to see. Your videos make me think of my mom. I mean that in the nicest way. She had similar hair. She would have been in her 20s in the 1950s. It's funny; I see some of the things in your home, and I remember having some of the same growing up in the 70s. I'm still struggling to find my own sense of style. I think I'm more drawn to the Mod 60s styles. Though I would love to style my hair like yours some day. I know it can be quite a process.
I was born in the wrong era! Victorian is my style - I once modeled a Victorian dress for a local fashion show (got my picture in the paper, lol) the only reason I got picked was because I was the only one tiny enough to wear it!
LOVE your videos girl, this video remindes me of myself how I got into the pinups rockabilly look. Been rocking this style since I was 17yrs 38 now def a way of life. My place is all style 50s 60s mid century modern as well. Thrift shopping is my fav thing to do. Love watching your thrift shopping videos. Feel its in your blood my grandpa was a greaser when he was younger. Into the hotrod culture since I was little. Keep making great videos girl your so inspiring. Love you. ❤🖤❤
That’s wonderful that you still have your childhood toys and I love the dress that you are wearing in this video. It’s awesome to hear about your fashion journey. 😊❤️
I get how your mom helped you hang on to your strawberry shortcakes toys. I was blessed with a son and had no girl but…. When he was about 19 getting ready to go to college he purged his room while I was prepping for a garage sale and brought me a whole bunch of his matchbox cars to sell at it. He was adamant about getting rid of them and asking 20 dollars. So I gave him the 20 bucks and said now they’re mine! And held on to the for 20 years thinking someday I’ll have a grandchild. It took until 2015 but he and his wife had a little boy - my first grandchild! And when Royal was old enough to play with those cares I got them out for him and we all had a great time reminiscing over how I managed to keep the cars around …. Which my son was very happy about now. Thank you Laci for this lovely memory making content that makes me think so much of my older sibs❤
We must be about the same age! We like all the same trends around the same time. Felt like I just relived my life by watching this. :) so fun! Love the strawberry photo shoot complete with the carnival ride. So neat!
I've really enjoyed your channel. I'm someone who has collected antique fashion for 40 years but rarely anything past the 1930s since that was when modern fashion evolved into the styles we have today. It was always hard for me to ID items from e.g., the 1940s and 1950s when on a thirft store rack but seeing your thrift store finds has been revelatory. It has always felt like finding anything from those eras was so hard since the Rockabilly craze hit in the late 1980s in my area (Los Angeles) and the thrift stores were emptied out by savvyer buyers. Seeing your videos has made me realize they are still there - I just need a better eye for that era. So really, big thanks - you wear that vintage beautifully and it has been a pleasure to watch each video.
I love your Strawberry shortcake dress. Years ago l gave my daughter a Strawberry shortcake themed birthday party. Five out of her six guests gave her the same Strawberry shortcake coloring set. She didnt mind. She colored them all and she loved her party. She had a Strawberry shortcake outfit for her party, too.
Best video upload ever by Laci. Her origin story before she became The Vintage Girl Next Door. We are from the same high school class. I'm only about 5 months older. You're still attractive even as a natural brunette! 👩🏻
Nice video! It was fun seeing how your look evolved over the years. My 50s discovery story is kind weird and all over the place. I recall bits and pieces of the 2007 Hairspray movie from my childhood, but I truly discovered my love for the 1950s back in 2016 by, oddly enough, rewatching the later seasons of Dexter’s Lab and Powerpuff Girls, which changed to a more mid-century Googie-influenced art and character redesigns in 2001-2002. Then I discovered the furniture from watching Hidden Figures, the classic cars from Incredibles 2, the architecture from Charles Phoenix, and the overall feel and aesthetic from the jazz music playing in the Incredicoaster attraction at Disney. As of right now, I only have a thrifted pinstripe shirt and khakis, but I would love to find more vintage material to add to my wardrobe
Since i was a little girl i love old movies, the stars of Hollywood and all the legends. Since march 2020, after 35 years, i show these passion in my vintage outfit, especially the 40th and 50th and i love it so much. That's me! Thanks very much for your nice videos, dear Laci.
You are wearing this beautiful dress so perfectly! It’s absolutely your true colours, that’s for sure! Thank you for sharing, Donna Walmsley, Work Your Wardrobe 🧚🏻♀️❤️🐝
Love this video and love your style ! Side note, you said 2010 and I was thinking "so like 2 years ago?" And then it hit me that that was a decade ago omg... 😂 aging and time are wild y'all
That pink dress is gorgeous. Mom used to make all my sisters and my dresses and they looked like that dress. I love that style. Love all your pictures, it is so fun to get out all our old photos and laugh and cry over them. The gray and pink dress is so beautiful, I had one almost like it. Love your style
I love the vintage dress, I found my happy place in goth clothing/style, love going thrifting. The best part is finding awesome stuff and not break the bank.
Ok, Laci ... that Dress is thee CUTEST - EVER !!! tfs - your 'past' (cute lol) as well ! Sooo Happy to hear that you found your ""True HAPPY Place"" when you found a 'look/style' that really suited You ! : )
Your videos are interesting. I like vintage as well not only clothing but other aspects of that era, but my place is 17-1800 and I dress as much as I can, incorporate into my home, my mini farm animals and their housing, etc. As you in your 'place' I in mine am very very happy and content. I was born in the 50's, but have always been drawn to many, many years back. thanks for sharing. In Joy
Strawberry shortcake! 🍓🍓 I am 60 on July 3rd, so I do love these things. I have her radio & I have a big strawberry soap container from Avon 1970s. I saved that from my teen years🌺
Wow, we could be twins! Your vintage evolution mirrored mine, we see that our style tends to be stifled during our Middle School and High School years and finally able to embrace our true style and self when we become an adult. Your current state is heads and tails above mine. I truly want the home and car like you have, maybe one day! Thanks so much for opening up and sharing your evolution!
This is so awesome! I too am an 80's child and can relate to just about every childhood photo you put up. My kids laugh at my photos when I show them school pictures. Now, at 46 years young I have spent the last few years discovering what I truly love to wear and what I am comfortable in, and it is vintage style.
I think black hair suits you..Red is my favor hair color since I was a kid..once color my hair red and my sister said I look like a women of the nite..what ever sister..😆..love your dress laci.
Omg! I love 💕 your dress so much. I was such a big fan of Strawberry Shortcake too, and had collected and still collecting any Strawberry Shortcake things. I personally have always admired 1940’s fashion but I love 1950’s house decor. Your fashion through the years of growing up sounds a lot like mine.
I once collected and played with Strawberry Shortcake and Friends as well when I was younger. Also have similar style evolution, a d yes started very young, was odd kid wearing grandmas hand me downs to school ... sadly now I have evolved into a pj clad couch potato, been slowly selling off a lot of my custom repro. Thinking when I do get dressed up it will be more cottage mixed with a hint of fifties and a dash of whimsical witch...but have done rockabilly thru 70s, twenties thru forties and yes my eras version of emo. Even had some victoriana thrown in. Right now really dreaming of some beautiful frilly long dresses such as Jessica Mc Clintock (sp?) but haven't seen any. I just want maxi skirts and Victorian style blouses lol especially now as I get ready to be a grandma/oma and my hair gets longer and kept in a bun most days lol ...anyway fun to see and hear of your evolution.
Really love your program. We wore dresses in the 50s and 60s in 🏫 school and church. Such a different time and thanks for continuing that style that is so beautiful like you
I've been inlove with that vintage style for years! Since high school i began trying vintage hair styles, and have always felt that's my home. I never felt the need to fit in, and always enjoyed my passion for all things vintage. I'm so glad to have found your channel and to see in the comment section that I'm not alone at all. I just realised I'll have to learn to make my own clothes in order to make my fashion dreams come true.
I also feel my style is ‘50s vintage, feel my most feminine & beautiful in this era dresses! Unfortunately I don’t wear this rule all the time, don’t have that many era clothes .
Flashing back to my little sister's collection! So cute! And her sleeping bag had the same exact pattern as your Shortcake dress! Such good memories!💕💕💕
I'm a 1965-1975 sort of person but I had a very similar fashion experience to you, Lacey. I grew up loving fashion and always drawing clothes for my homemade paper dolls and attempting to sew outfits for my Barbie dolls. However, my exploration of personal style was hindered by hand-me-downs and I had to contend with reimagining the items my sister outgrew, accented by a new outfit from my aunt each birthday. When I was about 11, I was first "set free" in a thrift store, able to choose a few pieces for myself, and I felt liberated. However, it wasn't until high school, when my sister and I became obsessed with the Beach Boys that I really began to obsess over vintage fashion. I bought my first vintage dress at 17. A homemade 1965 shift dress which is still a favorite of mine today. From there, I've moved to sewing most of my "vintage" pieces as my sewing skills have improved, but I still buy a true vintage piece here and there. Still searching for just the right hairstyle for me, but I do have a go-to vintage makeup look. Fashion is such fun! Thank you for sharing your fashion story with us! I thoroughly enjoyed it. 😊
My Vintage Style is in my Accessories. Scraves, hand backs and jewelry and a quiet outfit. I let the accessories take over. That’s been for quite sometime know. Love you Lacy Fay!, if I was younger I would go full vintage but never did! I live through your journey! Thanks for doing what you do. xo

I haven't seen those Strawberry shortcake dolls in a very long time. I had them all and I remember the smell. Very cool
Awwww, you were the cutest kid!
I love how you have a journey to find your ‘happy place’ doll!
I agree with what you say, vintage style is a very personal thing & I love how folks pop their own spin on it!
You look stunning as ever my friend Xx 😘
Haha thanks so much friend!!
@@mattschneider6654 I’m from the UK 👋
It was fun to see your vintage style evolution! I would love to see a video where you compare the 1950s homemaker style vs Hollywood style. It's something I've never really thought about before.
... ok wait a minute... American Idol?! I NEED TO KNOW MORE.
Also I love that Johnny Cash shows up in the mirrors lol
Oh my goodness that Strawberry Shortcake dress! And your Strawberry Shortcake collection? That's every GenXer girl's dream!!!
Yes!! So fun!
Oh my goodness! The dark hair vintage looks are just as amazing as your red hair. You looked like the 1950’s version of Snow White!
@@mattschneider972 I’m from Michigan.
100% agree, especially about the polyester.
Hollywood vintage 50s style really suits you well. You look great! I love your channel. Thanks for sharing your back story.
There a cute little vintage/pinup style shop called "everything that blings" where I live, I feel like you would love it!!
Laci, thanks for sharing your pics,it was fun to see.
So neat!
Same!
Oh my God! Your Strawberry Shortcake collection! I’m KVEllING!
Love the hair bow but I must say... The black hair is amazing on you!
OMG Strawberry Shortcake❤💗❤💗❤🍓🍓 I'm here for it😍 #80sbaby #NKOTB 😁 I was into Tiffany, Debbie Gibson and Bon Jovi
Yes!! I loved Tiffany too. Still like Bon Jovi lol.
i used to love strawberry shortcake when i was a little girl!!
Btw was that Conner’s voice in the intro? Could’ve swore it was him
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Very cool to hear about your journey!
Thank you for sharing,
Donna Walmsley, Work Your Wardrobe 🧚🏻♀️❤️🐝
Love this video and love your style ! Side note, you said 2010 and I was thinking "so like 2 years ago?" And then it hit me that that was a decade ago omg... 😂 aging and time are wild y'all
That pink dress is gorgeous. Mom used to make all my sisters and my dresses and they looked like that dress. I love that style. Love all your pictures, it is so fun to get out all our old photos and laugh and cry over them. The gray and pink dress is so beautiful, I had one almost like it. Love your style
Oh Girl. NKOTB freak here too. Was in the local newspaper for all my posters. Proud girl here.
Haha oh that’s awesome!
I love the vintage dress, I found my happy place in goth clothing/style, love going thrifting. The best part is finding awesome stuff and not break the bank.
I was an 80s kiddo too, love Strawberry short cake.
You look so gorgeous in that strawberry shortcake dress! :0
I love the 50's a well. I love seeing how you are true to yourself and what you love. You are a breath of fresh air in this day and age.
Omw, NKOTB!! Joey is still super cute!!
@@mattschneider6654 Hello I am from NY
Exactly what I wanted to know! Jimmy Feline and I are captivated.
Ahh I’m so glad!
Loved this vintage memory book video! It was so cool to witness your style evolution. Thanks so much for sharing!❤️
I am so inspired by you and obsessed with the 1950s…My grandmother Pearl was a wonderful example of a 1950s Wife, Mom..Thankyou always for sharing
What an amazing journey you have had. You do 50's very well! This was so much fun to watch. You were a cute kid.
I could smell those dolls through the screen! LOL! My fave was always Blueberry Muffin. 🫐
My Vintage Style is in my Accessories. Scraves, hand backs and jewelry and a quiet outfit. I let the accessories take over. That’s been for quite sometime know. Love you Lacy Fay!, if I was younger I would go full vintage but never did! I live through your journey! Thanks for doing what you do. xo
I was born in 1976 and my dad kept all my Strawberry shortcake collection. I have all the same dolls you have. Best childhood ever!!!😘🍓 Hugs from Texas!!
My sister had the Strawberry Shortcake dolls. I know she still has them. She loved Strawberry Shortcake and the other dolls. Always was playing with them all the time. Brings back some very good memories.
Wow what a blast from the past. I too grew up in the 80s and had some of the Strawberry Shortcake dolls. I haven't seen them in so long so thanks for showing us your collection!
Haha! Thank you for all the encouragement. I’m in middle school and I’m wearing a lot of what other people are wearing! Thanks for the encouragement to be myself!
🍓STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE!!!🍓
OMG...YES...I have all those dolls too!!! I still have them stored away...they are sooo cute!!! I did get a few of the Funko Pop versions recently...You can never have too much "Shortcake"!!!
🍓She's my "JAM"...LOL!!!🍓
You have always been such a pretty girl! Thanks for sharing.
This was so cool watching the evolution of your fashion hearing the stories seeing the pictures was awesome I really enjoyed watching this would love to see more videos like this.
I also loved those dolls as a child. You had so many of them! And I love the dress!
I love your style soo much and am just as obsessed with novelty prints as well!
Thanks so much!
Sasparilly should make some clothes for men, too. They could do a 1950s-style cardigan with like, Transformers battling He-Man on it. THAT WOULD BE RAD.
Love the Strawberry Shortcake dress. A few years ago I bought a small Strawberry Shortcake doll from a toyshop. Love that doll.
This was a fun video. I'm glad you kept your strawberry shortcake stuff. My son was a 80s child and he still has his teenage mutant ninja turtles. I just love your style.
Thank you for sharing your fashion evolution! And I also still have my Strawberry Shortcake dolls.
Fantastic video Laci. Loved seeing your photos. You’re gorgeous no matter what hair color you have or what you’re wearing. Your story of a young Laci going through the store declaring what is pretty or ugly really made me laugh! ❤️
I think we must be very close in age because I had a very similar growing up path. I also saw the NKOTB - three years ago! They played with Paula Abdul and Boyz II Men. Amazing show!
I still have my Strawberry Shortcake toys from the 80's as well! In fact I still have my Popples, My Little Ponies, Rainbow Brite, and She-Ra toys too 🥰 I will be checking out that collection for sure!
