  • Splitting the difference between the full size and compact versions of the Beretta 92 is the Centurion -- a "just right" variant of the classic DA/SA pistol that, until now, had been out of production since 2004. This year, Wilson Combat has teamed up with Beretta to bring us the 92G Centurion Tactical. Chris got a chance to try out the test gun that Wilson Combat let us borrow and he shares his thoughts in this review.

    I love the 92’s...always have.
No beating the feel of the 92 in your hand and during live fire exercise.

As a recent convert to the 92 series, I can totally agree. I happen to be fortunate to have hands that are very well suited to the grip width and trigger reach, making the 92 series feel like a custom fitted setup right out of the box. The recoil is far more comfortable and predictable compared to my previous choices, making target reaquisition on second and subsequent shots that much faster and more accurate. Add in the decades of proven reliability, near maintenance free operation and the ease of cleaning, and my 92 has quickly moved to the front of the pack when I am standing at the safe, choosing what to carry.

It's great to see Beretta 92 variants coming from different places like Wilson. Even though I own several striker fired pistols, overall I still prefer the 92A1 I've tuned a little, Sig P226 and 1911 platforms. If I had to have only one pistol it would be a Beretta or Sig. Luckily in America we can have what we want pretty much.

I got the Action Tuned version. Definitely a lighter & smoother DA trigger pull than my M9A3. This Wilson Combat is currently my favorite handgun that I own.

Hard to imagine anything made by Beretta then "finished" by Wilson Combat that is anything but great. If you then give the trigger the Langdon touch . . .

Great review! Been carrying and shooting variants of the Beretta 92 since the mid 1990s. This one has all the features to make it the perfect 92 (for me anyway). Eyeballing this one for a while now. Pretty sure I've gotta have it.

You have to be the only reviewer under 50 on RUclips who has as many or more DA/SA pistols (and regularly carries them) than striker-fired pistols. Thanks for reminding me of just how many choices in both pistols AND action types there were in the late 20th Century. :)

You should do a series on some CZ variants, namely the classic steel frame line up, the P01 (and Omega) and the polymer P07/9.

I like my P01 regular better than the Omega for some reason but doing a series on CZ would be great. The SP-01 might give the Beretta 92 a run for it's money. #CZLIFE

I like my CZ-75 PCR but the double action is HARD & I usually double tap for some reason when I first get to the range; probably because the double to single transition is so pronounced.

Came across this video so I had to add my 2 cents 😃.
A few months ago I went to my local gun store to purchase the Beretta M9A3, a firearm that I’m very familiar with, since a good friend of mine owns and I have close to 600 rounds in it myself.
The salesman showed me the Centurion with the De-cocker, and the Wilson Combat trigger job.
It fit my hand like a glove so I forgot all about the M9A3 and walked out with this Badass .
    Very happy with my purchase.
Now I was looking at the Wilson Combat EDC x9 and I’m wondering if I should spend the money since this firearm is similar to it except for the DA/SA.
Just my thoughts and civilized comments are welcome.

This is a legit 92, but I think Mr. Langdon has created the ultimate 92. Can’t wait to see a comparison video!
Also, what about a review of the Sig P2022? Seems like it should be compared to the Beretta Px4 Compact and the CZ P-07.

Get the best of both worlds. I am not a big fan of the LTT slide/frame or VZ grips. Sold it and I bought a Wilson combat centurion with no action tune and installed LTTs NP3 trigger job in bag. Wilson’s slide work is phenomenal and the trigger job Langdon provides is the best on the market. I modified the barrel and some other aesthetics and now I feel I have one of the best berettas out there. Great video, thanks for the detail, this helped in my decision making.

I was going to buy a Beretta as my first handgun, but I wanted a 92 Compact XL so to speak. I compact grip frame, because it fits my hand wonderfully, and a full 5" barreled slide assembly. I was discouraged when I learned that didn't exist, and I couldn't just slap a full slide in a compact grip because the slide and frame cuts were different.

I scored an used Centurion for $350 from a guy on PFC. It does shoot a little differently but also it's a bit more comfortable to carry. Not much easier to hide (or it might be for some folks) but you've got less barrel/slide there to dig into you or catch on stuff.

You should do a review on the Chiappa M9 9mm, which is identical to this Beretta. The fit and finish is excellent on the gun inside and out (no tool marks to be found) and is very accurate right out of the box. A friend of mine bought one and I liked it so much that I bought one and do not in any way shape or form regret it, and have plugged it into my small stable of EDC guns.
At about $350.00 the Chiappa is about a third or more less than the Beretta in this video and shoots just as good! And...as for me...it does not have that stupid rail on the bottom!

My 1st gun was a 92 Centurian. All I did was buy a Hogue grip for it back in the early 90's. I bought it from a Co worker for $325.00. It shot anything I ran through it. Talking about a shooter?😁😁 I traded it in for a XD40 service model. BIG MISTAKE. I carry a Glock 17 on the job now. Sig and Berreta is all I want to know about now and MAYBE I'm looking into S&W generation- 3 6909? Berreta next generation pistols are worth a look-see.

Oh man, I've been thinking hard about one of these. Though I'm gonna have to contact Wilson and see if they can perform this treatment using the slide from a Centurion 92D, double-action-only, which is my favorite configuration for the shorter gun. The stock trigger is already sooo smooth and light, and with the bobbed hammer and clean slide, no safety to clutter up the lines, it's gorgeous. And if they can sprinkle their magic dust on that already great trigger, well... And I agree with what's said around 3:30, about how it shoots; it's hard to quantify, but it's different and just better than the full-sized gun. Just like the Glock 19X and G45, with the G19's compact slide on a G17 full-sized frame. It's funny, at first everyone said 'it makes no sense, it's so stupid, no one will buy them', and then the 19X wildly outsold everyone's expectations, to the point that Glock wisely rolled out the G45... And I own both of them! Though I confess I only got the 19X because I love the FDE color, and that it has no front serrations. Like the Centurion and Kat Dennings, it's just a little unconventional, but DAMN it looks good!

Thanks for making the size comparison to the Glock 92 to allow a return to carry reality. However, I bet this pistol is like the Dan Wesson Guardian Commander in that it feels great. gets back on target, and shoots great....sometimes making the extra weight worth it (the Guardian is most likely lighter due to the aluminum frame. Thanks, sir.

I will play devil's advocate here. I like to stick with one type of "shooting platform". There are many advantages to sticking with something like a 5" barreled 1911 (or the 4.25" Commander size), including the fact that you can buy a variety of holsters for that "model" and they will work across the spectrum of manufacturers (i.e. Colt, Ruger, S&W, Taurus, etc., all make a 1911).
When you get into guns with shortened barrels/slides and then add a rail to the bottom, you are going to find it difficult (and expensive!) to buy the holsters. For my 1911s, I can choose between the Bianchi 111 cyclone crossdraw, #19 thumbsnap, #2 standard, Galco Fletch, and quite a few others. In other words...I have a dozen holsters that I can use with ANY 1911 (except for the Sig) in my collection. It's nice to have choices of handguns AND gunleather.

Lucky Gunner Ammo I get that people like it because it's not plastic. But there could be a whole new market if they did a plastic frame version. There are loads of people who like the idea of the 92 but don't want to own one because it's too heavy for their delicate little hands.

They tried it. It was called the 90-two.

The 90 two . A polymer 92/m9 looks fantastic, shame it's no longer in the companies line up. I think they should re introduce it even if just in small numbers to test the waters. The popularity of the plastic fantastic hand gun I feel they would have a winner on their hands.

The 90 two was still mostly steel and aluminum and only weighed about a half ounce less than the 92FS. It didn't sell very well.

Chris, so I don’t know if you owned both at the same time but from a fast/accurate follow-up shot standpoint which was better for you? The Beretta/WC Centurion or the Sig P229 Legion?

I haven't shot them side by side, but I'd say it probably has 99% to do with the skill of the shooter and what platform they're used to.

Thanks for the reply. I think both are great options but I do love the low mass slide on the Beretta. Not only does it seem like it’d have less felt recoil but it just looks more sleek.
I’d love to see some CZ’s on your channel. Maybe some that have been tuned CZ Customs or Cajun Gun Works. I’m particularly fond of the SP-01 Tactical and Phantom models.

Call me crazy, but I prefer my plain-looking/classic Beretta 92FS.

When will Beretta learn that the safety doesn't belong on the goddamn slide?

This gun does not have a manual safety.
