For those wondering where the Golf R or Focus RS are - this drag is all about front wheel drive only. We've done a video of the RS vs R already. Also, unlike some people are claiming, I didn't jump the start. We watched it in slow motion in the edit and the starter's hands were already going down before I released the clutch. Which is fine. I just have the reflexes of a 🐯. Love from Mat X

I am very surprised to see how quick that seat cupra r is...
it is a weapon - I had a chance to be a passenger in a Leon Cupra on a track with a pro racing driver!!! Entering the corner at 174 km/h and sliding all 4 wheels and he was still on a gas all the time!!! car is amazing and the engine is by far better than in any french car or Hyundai. Civic is good as well.

I have a 308 GTI and I never have problems launching the car. I clocked 0-62 mph in 5.6 seconds, its feather light. The 308 GTI have a hidden launch control and it seems like this driver didn't know that.

No it's not, change the drivers at least 4 times and you will get different results especcially when it's so close even the braketest with the same drivers will be different.

A new 2.0 engine is coming. I read Renault realizes the architecture of the 1.8 has been around a long time so a new 300+hp engine is coming. The looks are fantastic though.
Aside from the initial wheelspin, i feel like the 308 GTi was keeping up pretty well with even the Civic and the Leon (with bigger engines and more power), would have loved it if there was a 1-lap track test... Honestly I would have the 308 out of that group

I raced against a Cupra R yesterday with my S5 2017 and i was really suprised by this car. Had to be good with paddle shift to overtake it. Very beautiful and nice car !

Use drone for drag races
Try finding a drone that can fly 120mph and produce decent footage... most professional drones can't do more than 40mph
@@komentierer duh for a ariel view or other shots the drones dose not have to chase the cars 😂 it could be hovering over them over the finish line or where ever plus the records in 4k and they can produce good quality
@@bingchilling491 The cars are spread across an area that is too wide for the drone to display realistically... there would most likely be a fisheye effect too large to be usable

@@_-Anthony-_ Let's say the runway is 40m wide. To view the whole width from above with a normal lense that doesn't have any fisheye-effects (which would kill the entire shot, you would have to fly 80-100m high. Good luck getting a stable shot with 30mph winds.
And honestly.. on an AIRFIELD?? No-fly zones for drones really don't get any more obvious than that.
I don't understand why haters are still making fun of Hyundai in 2018. Hyundai is 3rd in the world after Toyota and Volkswagen Group based on production number. They have good tech too, it's just they are not putting more luxury and tech into the cars, because it may lead to price increase then they cannot compete with the three Germans with higher name value
Evening Sky Because people that buy Hyundai, Peugeot, Opel, Toyota don't really care about cars. They're no enthusiasts atleast. If you buy a BMW for instance you're atleast somewhat interested in performance and driveability. Most people see cars as transportation, I drive for fun.

@Gustavdaking I'm an enthusiast and for that reason, I ended up placing an order for a Hyundai i30N Performance fully-decked out. The car is so much fun it's unbelievable. I will be doing some aftermarket modifications for it later down the line. From what I've heard, RaceChip have found a way to get this car to 320hp and give it an extra 100nm of torque.

Well Hyundai and Kia have been known to make pretty cheap cars in the past, and it seems like people have gotten stuck to those ages even if those times are long gone.
A big point is also the fact that their designs aren't very original either. It's made worse by their fanboys touting how many modern hatchbacks look like Hyundais/Kias when the reality is that their hatchback designs have been heavily inspired from the likes of Mazda and even Ford.
Not saying they look bad, I kinda like the i30, but they do seem to have some identity issues design-wise.
VTEC TURBO + agile handling with FK8 chassis+ forgiving clutch = NEW CIVIC TYPE R
Then comes the new focus st with 280hp and 420nm of power and makes the same 0 to 60 mph in same time with less 40hp now figure what is the best engine. Ford leads the gasoline engine design. Vtec was amazing when it came out in the 90's now it just gets eaten by a superior ecoboost.
VW tried to make a deal with Ford to start using ecoboost instead of problematic endless money pit tsi or tfsi in case of audi, same crap. But Ford refused, at least the vw move was the same as admitting the problems and the inferior design of tsi.

Tried 4 out of these 5 cars, and the 308 felt the most exciting. Didn´t try the type R, which Im pretty sure feels as a real race car

Inglejuice the Older FK2 Type R just as fast and looks a lot better than the FK8 in my opinion. I do like the Cupra, however it’s an automatic unlike the more engaging Civic. This video proves how much slower the new Megane RS actually is!

I have had the pleasure of driving one when they were very first released with my brother in law and around the lake district there is some amazing roads and that car is a really great bit of kit I was amazed at how much fun you really can have I have drove the ek9 type r pug gti and old megane rs and found that on the the roads we have it blew them out of the water. I am just a wee bit of a fan of this car.

Will still go for the Hyundai though. Though I'm a bit late, I finally got to drive one yesterday and boy is it a riot. Biting point is clear, clutch and steering well weighted, gear shifts are solid and confident, quick steering, endless grip and an exhaust system that brought out my inner ASBO. What an amazing little thing.

One of the best tests I have seen, the rolling drag is so important when comparing FWD or actually in all comparisons.
The Megane seems slower than it should be, this 1/4 mile was 14.9, but other real world tests were 14.2
ive heard some only run 250bhp out of factory, not sure if its true
I must say the Cupra is pretty sexy. Love the colour combination too.

@@dukacosmic You could say that about the others. APR stage 1 remap takes a Cupra R to 400bhp. 4 drive with DSG will doing late 3s, early 4s to 60 and will be 170mph car. The shitty Hyundai will be nowhere to be seen.
Good thing to take note is modifying/tuning these cars, things like the cupra and Honda I know have very expensive parts and require a lot of the heavy work done to start remapping and getting that power (clutches etc) I actually rate the i30N the most out of these, great sound, best for practicality/efficiency, hands down best interior with a very expensive feel, almost everything in Alcantara, very modern and expensive feeling. I’ve seen some 380+ and they’re nothing short of weapons.

The Hyundai did really well I would say for price and fact that there is no brembo brakes. Its also heavy. Maybe if they cut the weight on next one or introduce dct box it will be ahead. But for overall must be the winner for me

Overall the SEAT is unbelievably fast. If it had better start it would have won the 400m also. The Honda is an excellent car in a bad design.

thats subjective it looks understated thats all also its looks are the most dated in the field and it still looks modern enough and is together with the golf(obvious) the least annoying when doing d2d stuff
The civic does look mental but remember it’s the only hot hatch to actually generate downforce which is probably why the seat was catching at higher speeds due to the extra drag.

I've just bought an I30N Performance Pack and I don't regret it for a single moment. It is a great car to drive, very good to live with every day and awesome value for money (in Portugal the Civic Type R is €7000 more than thrle Hyundai).

I have been wondering about that breaktest. As it works now, it is more a test of the drivers reaction time. Why not make a countdown so everyone brakes at the same time?
That Hyundai is a weapon of its own. A family hatchback made to feel like a proper track car.
Cupra is the best looking for me and probably the one id go for.

"i30N all the way" I had to chuckle at that. I have been in one a lot and it's quite nice but it's like an iPad vs an Acer tablet. The Acer looks the part, but poke around a bit and you can tell its all very cheap.
Also the I30n was stone cold last in the Parkers drag race...it really depends!

The brake test is so inaccurate. One tenth of a second reaction difference could give a completely different result. Love these drag racing videos though.

I do agree completely, the type R is definitely the benchmark in this segment , the hyundai is definitely a very fun car to drive and modify .. however i think the renault potentials are best seen on the track + it really looks great ..
I’ll always support the 308 GTi but that’s cause I own one, was a bit disappointed by the first race but understand what they mean about launching it. Very impressed by the Cupra though. Thought the Megane would have done a bit better 🤷♂️
I totally agree I own pug 308gti as well. Such and underrated car in this class but Im happy it held its own on the rolling race amongst the 2 litre competition
That the bloke driving it is a racing driver doesn't make him a proficient manual street driver. 308 takes some time to get used too.

The Cupra R has always been underrated. Nice to see Hyundai in the game offering customers another option in the market. 205 GTI will always be my favourite Peugeot hatchback. Megane is nice but grew up when the Cilo had the V6 and also prefer some of the older Civic Type R's too.

You can just do engine braking in manual. Just shift to 3rd or 2nd gear just before bracking. It will reduce the braking distance to half.

All of them are great honestly. I wouldnt mind have any of them. The Civic is a track weapon as proved 100 times, the Cupra should be really close and has one of the best engines especially with some light tunning to reach big numbers...so if you are into tunning, the Cupra is the king here. The Hyundai looks great same as the Megane. The 308 is beatiful exterior wise aswell lacking interior quality.

@@MaestroTech122 sure lol ... My old 97 civic only has power steering, no AC, and i love driving it! Plus i've seen reviews when people say it is a good daily car.

I agree, the engine is so disapointing, at least on the non-trophy, it seems like the car is trying to not be too hard on Co2 and things like that, the cars in france are having big taxes even without that much HP. Strangly enough the Trophy version, with +20hp, is also WAY more taxed (+10.000€...what a shame for car enthousiast) so maybe the engine is also more engaged ! Hope so...
Ye, the regular Megane RS is kinda like a Golf GTI, not fully hot-hatch. Trophy version will be the shit. Just like you wouldn't compare the Megane 3 RS 250, the first version, to the latest 275 Trophy, totally different cars.
Laptimes would only result in emphasising how good the Type R and probably the Cupra are - two proper powerful cars!

I'll be impressed when they put the 1.5 turbo from the civic si and put it back into the fit. Then they'd have a car that calls back to what made their reputation in the first place.
But they won't, because they've lost their soul to the bean counters who won't allow it to stop on their cash cow civic's toes.

No regrets buying the Peugeot, good all rounder and don't forget how much you'll save on brakes, fuel and tyres due to the low weight. Very easy to get 50+ MPG in the GTi, I really do love mine.
Paul Hawkins and it’s quite sad that many people these days seem obsessed with performance figures and tech but completely overlook kerb-weight figures. Weight reduction not only puts less strain on brakes, tyres, clutch etc, but it does indeed improve fuel economy and massively enhances the driving experience!
@@dgbservices6049 I can't emphasise enough how well this car handles, and how agile it feels on the road due to its low weight. It's still a seriously quick car, feels special everytime I drive it.
Not really saving on brakes when the Alcon discs seem to corrode every 2-3 years requiring an expensive peugeot only repair
