    The ugly stage is the stage that gives you the most confidence imo. You have to rock your dreads without caring about being judged and this stage helps the most with that. It’s a whole process to enjoy and I love it!

    Gotta say whats said is pretty spot on. I grew my fro out about 6-7 months before getting comb coils and my hair looked exactly like his, and after a month or so I got a retwist with a crochet hook. This was only 4ish months ago and my locs are already well past my eyes and ears (since I have a full set). I've been getting retwists once a month and every time I walk out of there its like the ugly phase all over again for a few days lmao. Just trust the process

    I started my locs on supershort hair (less than 3 inches) with the sponge method and then moved on to interlocking. Honestly I dont think they look bad/ugly at all.

  • @Filaying
    @Filaying 3 года назад +8

    Im starting mines in 2 strand twists, by leaving them in two-strands then taking them apart after 2 months kinda how ja morant started wish me luck ‼️

    • @petersullivan1409
      @petersullivan1409 3 года назад +2

      You oughtta just leave the two strands in fam, they’ll lock in two strand form. So by separating after two months, you’ll undo a lot of locking that has happened in the first 2 months. I started mine with two strands. If you want a higher dread count, make sure your two strand sections aren’t too big.

    • @locsman
      @locsman 3 года назад +1

      @@petersullivan1409 Correct.two strand twist is a very good method. You can dictate how thick you want them and they look boom when matured.Just avoid gels /waxes. You don't want then trapped inside your locs.

    Love the video you make. I have a question last year I had dread locs until I got hit by a drunk driver. So my wife had to comb out my dreads but it’s been a year since then so now I’m doing two strand twist but my hair seem so thin so what should I do?

    What I learned is that you have to go through the so called ugly phase there’s no going over it if your not able to see this as a temporary experience then your going to end up taking them down trust me I went through it
    I was thinking maybe I need to take them down and get them restarted but I just stuck with them and now they have finally came together I’m a year and 5 months I might do a video when I make my 2 years I don’t think anyone had and worst dreads then me I had start to get my dreads when I had permed hair it looked horrible and I can’t believe I went out public with my hair looking like that 😂 but I did I just embraced in a way but then I start cutting the short parts only on the top but then left the back straight parts there it looked like I had a damn mullet 😭😭😭so I just cut all of the permed hair out then I was left with the spiky hair looked like I had got electrocuted but I kept at it they had finally laid down but they were so short but I just kept at it and let them do there thing and got them retwist every month so now here we are they finally reaching my eyebrows and eyes I can’t wait for my 2 year mark I glad I didn’t cut my hair all off or taken them down
    This is the healthiest my hair has been there back to black anyone who’s going through the “ugly stage “ just know it temporary your going to be glad your going through this because when the way they come out there going to be so beautiful at the end embrace of it’s really a problem then just wear a beanie and get your retwist every month you’ll be ok ♥️✌🏾

    Simple answer grow your hair out to 1 or 2 inches first then use a sponge so u get a sick hair texture which looks completely separate from dreads before they start forming into dreads which will take about a month or 3 if your black like me. Don't drench your hair, lightly rinse every couple days, dreads need to be clean but dry.

      Hi. How often do you sponge?

    • @treesyard4656

      @@locsman morning evening and night before I put the durag, if you over do it it's like wolfen with wavs for too long and you end up undoing them and ruining the progress, rather than curling your hair it's just starts to ripo it out, your hair will be dry most the time so imagine rubbing dry hair for hours a day, that's leads to itch and messed up curls

    I’m between 4b and 4c I’m beginning my locs just 4 days in but my locs keep unraveling, what should I do? The low back of my hair looks like a pill of unraveling hair.
