There's a high percentage of people emotionally entangled in the matrix of what is the lds church that are woefully unhappy, spiritually hollow and going thru the motions like a zombie. And the vast majority of those are women. They would leave the church in a heartbeat but they know if they do it will cost them everything in terms of family relations, friends and community. For many its all they've ever known and they feel there's no way out.. they're trapped in something with no "exits".. so they resign themselves to it and go thru the motions alone. Its beyond sad.
Very interesting question: Name another denomination besides the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that sent missionaries to Jerusalem to dedicate the land for the return of the Jews. Orson Hyde dedicated the Holy Land for the return of the Jews October 24, 1841. This is nearly two decades before Theodor Herzl was born. Joseph Smith might actually be the original Zionist. Yeah let's trust pseudoscientists with an agenda and inherit biases tell us what really happened 🙄 Let's just ignore the fact that even the non-member historians with actual degrees and training have concluded in agreement with the current church about the origins of polygamy. Let's also not forget that all of these pseudoscientists completely ignore the promises made by Joseph himself and many others, including in ancient Scripture about the relation and the future of the church, all which would be in flat contradiction had polygamy not been given by God. Furthermore, many of these people belong to a church that was founded by those excommunicated by Joseph and have not the organization, priesthood, or the practices established by God. Those who remain in the current church with these beliefs seem to be ignorant of the promises made by Joseph and many more about the future and destiny of the church, all of which would have been proven false if what they proclaim is actually true. Joseph is either a false project from the beginning or celestial plural marriage and the endowment all came from God for his purposes. Believe whatever you want, but don't insult the memory of Joseph by claiming to adhere to his teachings while also proclaiming that the church he was called to restore to the earth for the last time not only fell into apostasy at the hands of murderers, liars, and profane sacrilege adulterers, but that it somehow was allowed to invent (according to these disgusting teaching you accept) an entire false and anti-christ temple worship that was crowned with what you would call a gross and devil inspired twisting of God's most sacred of unions: marriage. The implications are actually beyond my current linguistic ability to fully express. To suggest that the church fell into a black abyss like the one you claim they fell into and could still exist today as God's church, and not have been destroyed off the face of the earth, is an absolute insult to Joseph Smith and to God himself.
This is absolutely not true. I myself am a member of the church too. The fact that polygamy existed in the early church doesn't automatically make it false. To say this you must also say that Christianity is false solely because the prophets of the old testament also practiced polygamy. Joseph practiced polygamy. Emma knew it (but obviously did not like it). I wouldn't like it either. It's an uncomfortable subject. But do not deny it happened just because it is uncomfortable. The journal of William Clayton describes numerous times that Joseph talks to him about the subject. Here's an example: "This was the first time the Prophet Joseph talked with me on the subject of plural marriage. He informed me that the doctrine and principle was right.., and that it was a doctrine which pertained to celestial order and glory." This is directly from his journal, and is just one example. Church is true. But don't deny the history. Without Section 132, you lose the doctrine of sealings and eternal families. That's a big deal.
