With my bedroom makeover right around the corner, I decided to spend some time working on a staple furniture piece for the room. Last week I found this minty green media unit that I just couldn't stop thinking about on Facebook Marketplace. After picking it up, I was considering keeping it as is but I just know I'd love it even more in a darker tone. This is my first time working on a piece like this and I was honestly surprised with the outcome!

And, to me, it looked like it was only 2/3 of the cabinet, as it looked like it was missing a piece. I could be wrong.

What a great piece Drew. I know you worked so hard on it but I think some of the door panels are going to bug you with their patchiness. You’re my favourite RUclipsr and this is the first thing you’ve done that I’ve not been in love with. It’s such a huge piece of furniture that it would take quite a few days to get the look perfect. I do adore your work. Your an inspiration.

Gorgeous cabinet! So as a longtime chalk painter, welcome to the club. This is a great first project. When you left the wetter wax on the paint for a little longer before wiping to reveal the original surface, you were using a technique called "wet distressing". It's a super technique and works with water as a preferred medium. Great job!

  • @DeexPx

Love the final look, I think it now looks like it's natural wood and the old paint has been removed rather than more paint added on. Well done ❤

Drew just a quick note! It's a very annoying process to remove furniture wax in my experience. When you use it in the future, make sure you're really set on the colour before you add wax 😊👍

It looks amazing! I’m a French country girly, lol and I love this cabinet. Drew, the paint you used is not chalk paint. It’s a chalky finish paint. You do not have to use clear wax first. Glaze would have been brilliant to use! Come to my house and we can paint together! ❤️

Thought you would know to chalk paint needs to be dry or it will Reactivate with more paint or stain. That stain didn't go evenly over the surface because the clear wax appeared to be randomly applied. Maybe I am wrong. All creative say to apply clear wax then wipe off about 15 minutes later. Then, apply dark or white wax which will spread much easier. To erase area with too much dark wax, add more clear to erase it. Makes more sense as you use it. Love your style.
