Cool alright, you've sold me on your channel not only for the reno and your passion, but also by having appreciation for the local business men who reached out for you. Big thumbs up for supporting local suppliers and business. 👍
Fun fact. We went to a granite factory who were leaving their left over on a pallet neat the street for everyone to take. It was cheaper for them because they were saving in garbage fees. Well, we collected and collected enough to do all of the floors in our 1,200sq feet house. We choose a different couleur for each room. It was a long and hard process but well worth it. We love our floors and it only cost us a whole bunch of diamond cutting blades...lots of them.
We redid our kitchen during covid and went on a three week granite journey. OMG, it was so much fun. Pink quartz countertop? wow, or Labradorite? Green tourmaline? I love stone too. We ended up finding a granite with fossils and crystals in it. Very pretty light gray. I adore the choice you made. well done.
Truly is. My mother has a huge bell installed that my brother could hear anywhere in the neighborhood and when he heard it, he knew to go home. It really works!
I’m gonna be super real. I struggle with depression and on how I didn’t turn out to be a functional adult as I hoped I would be. Living is really hard for me as almost everything demotivate me and as it seems that I have no dreams anymore. I’m saying that because for some reason, your videos about this beautiful journey of you and your family sparkles something really good on me, it makes me want to live and actually do stuff out of my life. Kind of makes me realize how incredible life can be if we put our energy to build our dreams, even if these dreams seem so goddam hard and expensive and complicated and time consuming. The best part is that you didn’t even have this specific dream, but life showed you one opportunity of making it happen and YES, you’re diving into it! This is so exciting, really! Thank you for sharing this with us! Thank you for showing me that maybe an “old school” can knock on my door at anytime and that I need to be alive to answer it.
How rude. This person just poured out their feelings thanking these people for being an inspiration. I can relate. Very rude to knock someone's comment that might help someone else.
It's lovely to see the place come together with all the design decisions. I'm so glad you were able to indulge in your love of stone and be creative with it. It's going to look fabulous and, more importantly, feel special to live in.
That's a great and necessary way to combine quality and economy! My grandparents bought a log house in Tennessee in the 1950s that the original part dated to the 1790s. It took them several years to make it livable and I still have receipts where they bought lumber and other materials at salvage yards for a fraction of the cost of brand new to save money.
A stone boneyard sounds like fun! I would have such a good time! I love soapstone! That dark red is to die for! Can you imagine that down in your wine room in the basement? Holy Cow! Start warming him up to sell you that later.
Hi there! I really enjoy seeing the progress y'all have made with this schoolhouse. I've driven past a few times (not a stalker.. just a fellow Johnson Co resident) and love seeing things happen to the old place. This building has always interested me for some reason. I'd been to an estate auction at the house across the road from you a few years ago and couldn't pass up the chance to check out the building and property surrounding it. It's going to make an incredible home! I like that you are keeping the schoolhouse "vibe" throughout your re-build. Hard work but you're doin her proud! Thanks for the updates!
I would have a hard time choosing all of it is beautiful. All the hard work physical and mental will soon be over and your dream realized wow you guys amaze me having the courage to do this. :) :)
I love that you are showcasing local business and recycled materials for your renovation. I cannot wait to see the vanity finished in the kitchen bathroom with that STUNNING onyx counter-top. Your stone choices are all gorgeous but the labradorite is my absolute favourite. For those who believe in healing properties of stones, labradorite is said to hold high energy vibrations that counter negativity and support well-being.
I would love to have countertops like that! I’m in the Midwest! I’m just an hour west of Terre Haute in Illinois. If I ever get to renovate my house I hope I remember this place. Everything is looking amazing!
Wow, the house has come such a long way. It looks amazing. You did an amazing job also I LOVVE the countertops you picked! Can’t wait for more updates!
Labradorite is stunning 😍 (have a heart pendant with green shine) The Onyx is also just gorgeous. Gotta say I am happy you got to think of that msg cause that was a gem of a place
Oh. My. Lord!! What an incredible place to look for what you need, and at prices that you can't find anywhere else. And what a great job highlighting them and their work!! This project is just beyond for all kinds of reasons, but one of the biggest is the kindness and generosity you show all the tradespeople you have found to help make this house a home. Those guys look like they would be great fun to work with and help find exactly what you want. Bravo on presenting them!! For whatever it's worth...The Taj Mahal is incredible stuff. It was put in the kitchen about three years ago and has been holding up flawlessly. It also changes tones with the light throughout the day. Absolutely love it!! Zero regrets on that choice.
I live within driving distance of this company, and after seeing the way these handsome young men clearly enjoy matching people with the right products, if I ever need some countertops or small pieces for furniture restoration, I know where I'm going, thanks for introducing a great business to me!
Not sure if ceiling fans are in your plans, but I worked in a building with 16’ ceilings before and after the fans. Before, all the heat rose to the upper 8’ and down on the floor we froze…Maybe you have a different solution, but 2 fans in 2000 sq feet of open space made a huge difference. Really enjoying your videos!
I cannot even imagine picking all that stone! And your eye for the different pieces is exceptional! I absolutely cannot wait to see all installed. Like the other comment, you seriously need your own #HGTV show. Design and perseverance is you calling.
I would love to see the old bathrooms and what they looked like! And the gymnasium brings back so many memories my old school looked just like this! They now have tore it down it was really sad
The one thing that throws me off about living in an old schoolhouse is the spirits that could possibly hunt the place 😂 but aside from that it’s turning out amazing and I can’t wait to follow your journey of living inside a school house! ❤
I love stone and looking at all the patterns. Also I’m w you on getting different ones for each room. Never was a fan of having the same one in my bathroom as the kitchen!
Your Onyx piece if I remember correctly can be lighted up from underneath. It is a pretty cool feature. I'm loving your school transformation into a house.
WOW, the Bone Yard is the BOMB!! I love it - I’m so jealous. It makes my mat black, leathered San Benedito granite countertops in my kitchen seem so boring now!! LOL But I still love my 12x24” brushed black limestone foyer & powder room tiles, fossils in them and all - they are gorgeous with lots of texture which is my favorite part.
Wow, what an amazing place that stone boneyard is! I imagine that you could just lose hours in there browsing through all of those unique pieces. I look forward to seeing your gorgeous choices in place in the schoolhouse. They will for sure 'spark joy' every time you see them :)
There's a channel called DIY Wife. She started building her own cabinets and doing her own remodeling because they didn't have a lot of money. I can't believe what she accomplished for herself and others. She gives step by step instructions on how she configures and puts her remodeling ideas, cabinets, etc. together. You have a huge project. Her remodels are tiny in comparison, but she's very creative.
Places like S&F that sell remnants of stone are worth their weight in gold. I've always felt that being forced to buy an entire slab no matter how much or how little you use of it (with the seller gaining double profit on the resale of the remnant), is a bit of a crock. But if you can find a place like S & F that sells smaller remnants you can get really great counters at a reasonable price. Super excited to see your counter choices in place.
I so wish I was closer because S&F looks like a place I would definitely go to! What beautiful pieces you chose! Especially the piece for the half bath! 😍 Gorgeous 😍
Im new to your channel, I am in awe of watching you transform this old school house into your new home. I can't wait to see it finished. Im actually going down to Indianapolis to visit family, I'm going see if my brother will take me to this warehouse where the granite stone is stored. They have some beautiful pieces.
Amazing stone choices but that labradorite is absolutely stunning. That is my favorite gemstone and I love wearing it. I would have been like you and so excited to find this place!
Such gorgeous pieces of stone. I love the ones you picked! I remember doing my kitchen and walking through the warehouse and some of the pieces I could just hang on my walls like art work. They were so beautiful. And we saw so many pieces that were very nice but just weren’t what we were looking for and then all of the sudden you see the one you want and you just know it immediately! Yes!! That one! My husband, his sister and I all fell in love with the one we ended up getting at the same moment. I could spend hours wandering those warehouses of stone. Seriously… Can’t wait to see your finished product! 😍
This has been wonderful to watch, thank you for sharing! After being robbed in our city house two months after getting married, my husband and I bought the cheapest property in the suburb I grew up in. Buying that 2,400 sq ft former church in 1996 was the best thing we have done! I am also a jewelry designer so the creative possibilities fed my soul and as newlyweds just starting out, we were able to pace the renovations to allow us to do things well while our friends were choosing builder grade everything as they built their houses. Our realtor had great advice at the time. He said that if we planned to live here at least twenty years, don’t get caught up in how much we are spending to make it our home bc there will be no capital gains when we sell and even if we price ourselves out of the neighborhood, twenty years in the home we loved would be worth it. We raised two kids, three dogs, a lizard, a frog and a toad, and two cats in this place where the main room doubles as a dance studio, banquet room, sail repair loft, or hot wheels race track once the rug is rolled up and furniture pushed aside. I hope you find the same joy in twenty eight years as you are now. It is worth it!
Have you thought about soapstone for the kitchen? Used in chemistry labs so it would honor the school. I loved having it in my kitchen. Contractor tried to dissuade me because he was worried I wouldn’t be happy. Boy was he wrong. Soapstone in the kitchen is awesome. It’s casual. Heat safe. Stain proof and if it scratches, you can easily use fine steel wool to buff it out. I loved it and the mineral oiling process was therapeutic. Seems like it fits your personality too!
I was worried about the maintenance, but your recommendation (and a few others on here) are in my head now... It's just such a big island that I was worried it'll be a decently big chore in a house full of chores haha.
If you enjoyed the Stone Boneyard, then you should visit the Tile Graveyard in Attica, OH. It's an old Seneca Tile Co. factory that burned down. You pick your tile from piles on the ground and pay by the square foot. Incredible prices!

I’ve been watching your videos for some time now- you are living out my lifelong dream to (if I were younger & had the knowledge)to take something old& bring it back to life! The progress has been amazing- can’t wait to see the finished project!
When you said you wanted a dark stone in the kitchen to pay homage to the school and chalk boards I thought of soapstone because it was common in school science labs. I am surprised you did not want it. But I really like the copper sink with the stone you found, looks good and very unique. It seems like it would be fun (and challenging) to have a long timeline to select multiple different products for a project.
Cool alright, you've sold me on your channel not only for the reno and your passion, but also by having appreciation for the local business men who reached out for you. Big thumbs up for supporting local suppliers and business. 👍
what an absolute gem of a company to find! They seem like a great company to work with on your project! I really can't wait to see the end result!
Fun fact. We went to a granite factory who were leaving their left over on a pallet neat the street for everyone to take. It was cheaper for them because they were saving in garbage fees. I love businesses like this. Unique and they really care about thier products and customers. Please support them!
Stacie, you seriously need your own show on HGTV or some other channel like that. You are doing such a great job.
lol thank you!!
Her demeanor and voice is so pleasing to the ear.
I do agree!! This should be airing on TV!
@@Jessimac52. I have to agree. She definitely has the right voice. ♥️😊👍
Yes you definitely need your own show, I’m tuned in already
Those S&F people really do love their stone :)
Very nice choices, eager to see it all installed !
They really do, loved learning from them!
What a great find! So glad you gave them some exposure and hopefully more business. Love your videos!

holy smokes, I've never seen one with fossils!!
Are you going to add a school bell? Great way to call the kids for dinner.
We did find a rusty old bell at an antique shop, and we got it sand blasted and powder coated! Just need to move in to use it haha
Truly is. My mother has a huge bell installed that my brother could hear anywhere in the neighborhood and when he heard it, he knew to go home. It really works!
Our mom just wants an alarm to keep us out of the kitchen. If we had a bell I’d be ringing it every 5 mins 🤪

What an absolute find for a stone slab supplier. Can't wait to see it all installed.
Wow, love that stone with your copper sink.
What a score on the countertop surfaces!!
