About the game:
Shadow of the Colossus is a 2005 action-adventure game developed by Japan Studio and Team Ico, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2. It takes place in a fantasy setting and follows Wander, a young man who enters an isolated and abandoned region of the realm seeking the power to revive a girl named Mono. The player assumes the role of Wander as he embarks on a mission that might entail Mono's resurrection: to locate and destroy the colossi, sixteen massive beings spread across the forbidden land, which the protagonist traverses by horseback and on foot.

I still would love to see you play Subnautica. The game is beautiful. If when you play it be mindful of the items you collect. At the salary you only have limited space. Build a scanner first lamp next sea glide and then a habitat builder. In your base you can collect a large amount of items

Hey mati, you should think of all the colossi as puzzles rather than bosses. They keep getting more complicated as the game goes on so its a good idea to think outside the box

@Axesmed you don't even have to do that, you just have to press square to pet her, only works if she's still though
Two questions that can help when stuck on a boss in this game -
1. Does the boss have any characteristics that stick out in the design (you noticed the beard almost immediately)
2. Does the arena have any special characteristics (the game rewarding you with cutscenes as you made your way towards the pillars at the opposite end, the fact that this one was in a building and the others have all been outside). Sometimes your surroundings will be part of the puzzle!

This game is simplicity at its best. Just boss fights but each one completely unique in how it has to be approached, and enough story to get you hooked.

Originally this game was supposed to have like 48 colossi but they were scrapped and now there are only 16.
I think that if Fumito Ueda knew that a man named Mati would be playing his game, he would not have scrapped the SPIDER colossus.
The spider colossus is the most popular one the fans theorized about that got scrapped

@@namirakira7138 Yeah and it’d be nice if they had included all 48 colossi in the PS3 HD version or the PS4 remake so the console the game released on could actually run it with 48 colossi (or at least 24 if the PS3 couldn’t manage 48 colossus, which was also scrapped) and made it possible. I’m curious, what was the unique mechanic intended for the spider colossus?
@@questionablezoomer764 So Wander would hold the sword to the side on Agro to slash as Agro moves. This mechanic was to be used on weak points on the Spider’s legs to make it fall, but it was the only application of this mechanic in the entire game.
Actually they even considered having 108 in the early stages of the game. And it was supposed to be multiplayer.

It's universal, there is always one colossus that people "overthink" and miss the real strategy for half an hour.
Definitely definitely play the last guardian. It is a fantastic game and unlike any other game around. It’s more puzzle-based than boss-based. But it’s seriously one of the most beautiful games I have ever played.
Man, the horse one stumped me and my kids for an hour. Had to look it up. Was fun, Mati!

The games by team ICO/gendisign, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian aren't really sequels, but they are set in the same world according to the Fumito Ueda. There are also a lot of similairities and hints at the other games. In the forest that you went through to reach Barba, the sixth colossus, is a cave with an important item from TLG for example.
Avion ( the bird ) was such an amazing experience the first time around but this game has some puzzles for bosses that mess with my head

BTW you can stand on top of Agro (agro surfing) I forgot how, but then you can jump off and "ledge grab" those birds that fly near you when you're at full gallop speed, and you can take a bird flight upwards in random direction. This is how we used to scale parts of the garden (the base tower temple) very fast back in the day, and yes you can reach nearly to the top of the temple by climbing the ivy, you just need A LOT of stamina
Not only can you ride while standing on top of Agro and firing the bow at arrow and the same time, but you can also hang onto the side of Agro.
And in new game plus, you have enough stamina to reach the top of the tower. However, it's a troll from the creators, because there are fruits up there that actually deplete your health. lol

This is what I adored about this game. Not only was the simplistic story and objectives but the actual hard aspects about finding ways to defeat the colossus. Each colossus has a strategy, a puzzle to solve.
Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite games ever alongside Bloodborne and Dark Souls! Such a unqiue game with some of the best atmosphere you can find in gaming, and much of it has to do with the lack of music and stuff to do in the open world, it feels like a real place because of the emptiness and I love it! I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the game with you Mati! :D

It's a shame ICO is only on PS2 and kind of hard to find these days. It really does lay the groundwork for the mythology of SotC, even if the connections are kind of... shadowy.

@@matiasgago You have the remastered version of ICO for PS3 (a disk with both Ico & Shadow of the Colossus). From the 3 games that team ICO produced ICO was the one that I most enjoyed, then Shadow of the Colossus and for last The Last Guardian.
You can play it on the playstation plus but it is the stream version

The Last Guardian is the only game to ever make me FULL ON WEEP into my pillow. The game will emotionally wreck you just a warning. It doesn't feature any characters from Ico/Shadow of colossus but it's in the same universe

Man these past few weeks i have fell in love with your channel ive been playing Bloodborne and watching you play Bloodborne has actually helped me with some bosses lmao
There is 128 good fruit (about 90 fruit will fully max out your health bar), 48 bad fruit, 77 lizards with shiny tails. All prayer shrines have at least one shiny-tailed lizard & some prayer shrines have 2 or 3, but you must leave the area & return in order for another lizard to spawn. There's no benefit to collecting non-shiny lizard tails. "ICO" & "The Last Guardian" are by the same creative team behind S.O.T.C. "Praey For The Gods" is a spiritual successor to S.O.T.C. made by 3 dev's over a 6 year period. "Journey" is a nice relaxing game.

FWIW you’re doing really well treating the bosses like more like full-on puzzles. I would just like to point out that you can crouch to regain health a little faster.
Also, if you’re ever having trouble with being shaken off, you can always experiment with smaller stabs - as in, charging the gauge 1/2, 3/4, 7/8 etc. of the way full instead of fully charged stabs. It’s more of a critical trick to learn for the hard time attack, but can help prevent a colossus from shaking violently between every single stab.
I remember playing this on Playstation 3! I love the atmosphere and soundtrack of this game and it's so entertaining to see your reactions to each colossus 😂

I have been following this channel for a while and finally decided to click the subscribe button. Being a long-time gamer myself, it's interesting to see how someone reacts to memorable moments and the overall journey of classic games while remaining likable, humorous, and calm. I also appreciate how you pay attention to various aspects, such as music (which in the "Shadow of the Colossus" game is on its own level, but actually, the whole game is top-notch, and the remake even improves some aspects). A fun fact about the game: it is possible to grab onto a passing eagle and get little bit air time with it.

I’m a little late to this party, but I love how every time you finish a colossus you say “ I think that might be my favorite”. Really good iterative design, and just enough hand holding to push you towards thinking about how the game mechanics work. The stamina mechanic is forgiving enough to make mistake’s manageable, so 1-shotting them is very doable and satisfying. You should definitely check out Ico and Last Guardian, they’re very much in the same universe.
I had a feeling you'd love the bird colossus! I had forgotten about the underground giant tbh, some fights will just click and some won't. There is one later that took me a long time to figure out when I played but in hindsight, it wasn't that complicated. I just didn't see the solution at first

The 8th Colossus is my favorite one. Part of it might be because the trek to get to it. Cant wait to see it in the next episode.
The sparkly thing you got in the flying colossus fight is so something Bluepoint added to the game. Theres 70+ of them scattered throughout the Forbidden Lands, and they're all unmarked. I have my own opinions about the prize, but it's still great that they added a scavenger hunt to show off the geography and the cleverness of how to get some of them.
You mentioned you felt bad about killing the lizards that don't give you the stamina increase, so ill let you know you dont hzve to kill the lizards at all. If you're handy with the bow, you can just shoot their tails off.
If people try to give names to the Colossi, just know they are noncanon.
Back + Triangle on Agro to sprint immediately, again to stop immediately. When running, do it twice to U-turn.
Loving this series! Journey is another one of my all time favorites (honestly just behind SotC), but it’s a much different vibe to all the other games you’ve played on this channel. There’s no combat and hardly any gameplay mechanics. But the sights? God they’re to die for

As someone who has only found your channel because I love SotC, I absolutely love your tone and mood throughout the video. You talk at the right times, know when you don't need to say anything, you explain your thought processes, and it makes it really enjoyable to watch you try new games! Journey would be great! Nice thing is it only takes a few hours to beat so it could be an episode or two at most.
The fact that Phaedra was literally sitting down so he could get on, then he shot it in the back without realizing what was happening early on in the fight is hilarious to me.

The Last Guardian is such a beautiful and emotional game, but it can be frustrating to play through due to the nature of its core game mechanic, so it requires some patience. Journey is an easy recommendation though.

Tiny interesting detail about the lizards. If you’re a really good shot, you can shoot an arrow specifically at their tail, pinning them to the ground temporarily and they will separate their body from their tail, scurry away just like certain real life lizards, and the tail will be left there for you to collect without having to kill them.
I extremely recommend cuphead it’s a very famous, hard game with sick bosses and an amazing art style! I would love to see a series

Re: The bird constantly dive bombing you: Apparently you can jump and hitch rides with them, but I've never managed to do it. Also not sure why you'd need to? There's a few weird little secrets like that in the game.
Takes me back to my first playthrough.

Nier Replicant (The Remake)
Nier Automata
i would say Automata is way more entertaining and is overall better mechanic wise. I’m going through Replicant right now after finishing Automata and finding it fascinating but honestly If I didn’t have an incentive and didn’t trust yoko taro (or if it was my first nier game rather than automata) I would’ve stopped
I definitely agree that automata is more engaging from a gameplay perspective. Replicant's story is just so dang good, it does require serious dedication to beat it all the way through though.@@ArtaniomX
Someone needs to implant the idea of playing Ghost of Tsushima into his head. That shall be me I guess. The game has breathtakingly beautiful environments, incredible soundtrack, emotional & compelling story with the most stylistic melee combat that oozes out from every encounter in the game. I find its a little hard to explain altogether why the combat in particular feels this way but it for sure has to do with the fluidity, some gore, sound effects & concise but smooth attacks you're able to inflict. Its nothing like I've seen elsewhere. it's a must play Mati!
Anything adventurous, I think, would be great for your future playthrough Mati. But anything you choose to play, I'll watch in my free time anyway!
Another tip: You can do plunge attacks, just jump up and hold the sword button (I think, has been so long) and directly stab into the weak point but its risky on a moving colossus
