    I always tell people tats that it’s not the bike. It’s the rider I own a rigged out Santa Cruz and my riding buddy rides a schwinn Axum and kicks my butt. And his friend who showed up on a marlin 6 killed us both. So the price of the bike is b.s. the rider makes the difference. You rocked out there man! Keep it up!

    If it can handle all of that, it will certainly work for what I want. Exercise, hill climbing, and the occasional off-road ride. Too old for crazy stuff.

    The rattling is the cables inside the frame, look up jagwire housing damper and have a mechanic install it, will silence the whole bike

    I saw a good rider coming back with better skills dominating that trail! You'd have done that on any bike. All the great stuff you have on your Roscoe or the more upgraded bikes are better than what comes on the Marlin, but let's be real...Air shocks are fairly recent, all upgraded bikes had spring forks not that long ago. Hell, in the 80's kids my age were jumping tables and doing crazy stuff on BMX bikes, no suspension at all and drag brakes on a 21" wheel! The better parts give you a better ride, less noise, lighter, blah blah blah. In the end, it's a bike and you can have fun on anything if you have the skill and the attitude and you have both!

  • @Barnshal

    That looks fun! Matty, the Gen 3 has a bit slacker head tube angle so in theory I expect it to perform even better. I think that they also changed more things. That along with current economic climate lead to an increase in price unfortunately.
    I got the same version you have, got it slightly discounted, happy with my purchase so far!

    • @kwaktak
      @kwaktak Год назад

      I’m curious about the proposed slacker head tube, inclusion of a dropper post and the discontinuation of the use quick release axles on the upcoming Gen3 Marlin 8. I’ve been riding the current geometry Marlin 7 for 4 years and made use of the discontinued internal routing point for a dropper post. It and going tubeless made the bike feel much more versatile yet the head tube and stock rims seemed to cap the bikes upgradability. I’ve also had issues with caliper alignment from continuously removing the wheels.

    That is a really fun place to spend time, fast flowing with some jumps, and you still got that stock heavy fork. You need to make something with the cable noise because that's your fault. There are lots of videos on youtube with diferent solutions to eliminate cable noise. I eliminate cable noise with just a peace of tube, pull the cables and tight them up with the peace of tube and noise solved.

    For the money, the Marlin is a great entry level bike. It might be limited on upgrades (fork due to non tapered head tube, some wheels because of not being through-axle compatible, etc) but it’s a solid bike to get into MTB on. Mine is pretty modded, but I took it on a really tough trail this weekend and it took everything I threw at it and that includes my mistakes from still being new to MTBing. My Marlin will always stick around, because it’s a great bike for the money.

      Interesting. I too have been modding my Marlin (2019 Marlin 7) but haven’t done the fork. I was considering on riding it through one last winter then upbiking in the spring to either a Marlin 8 or Xcal 9.

      @JimG89887 Год назад

      @@denislitisha7136 Yeah and I’ve thought about going that route, but the stock Judy fork is fine, a bit heavy, but it does the job. If it breaks, that’s when I’d probably go that route and see how it works with the external head head to accommodate the fork.

    • @JimG89887
      @JimG89887 Год назад +1

      @@kwaktak I discovered the fork think after I purchased it. For that, I would’ve went with a Roscoe, but I also didn’t think I’d get into mountain biking as much as I did and I’ve been putting the marlin seriously to the test. My next bike is a full suspension and the marlin with go back to being a daily ride around town / XC bike.

    Loving the Marlin love but your skills have a lot to do with it. Don’t worry about that rattle. It’s just a little slack in the shifter cable. Put some black electrical tape or zip ties around them where they come out of the frame.

    • @kwaktak
      @kwaktak Год назад

      PS: specialized sells frame inserts that also dampen that sound.
      Anyway, I've got 4 years, $600+ worth up upgrades into and a couple thousand miles on my 2019 Marlin 7 and can say with confidence that these bikes are great for XC where you do a lot of climbing and sprinting on flats but not so good on downhills and jumps. With the upgrades that Trek has added over the past few years I've seen the bike mature from a rugged hybrid to a nice poor man's XC platform. With the shorter stem and slacker head tube angle they give the Xcaliber series a run for their money IMO - though they gotta get rid of the threaded cartridge bottom bracket. I'm currently on my third one.

    Be more interested in seeing the bikes components than the handlebars. I still use a Marlin, for my Autumn double-century ride along the St. Lawrence River. 9 & 10speed is all ya need. Brands, spend too much marketing what ya don't need...12 speed, WiFi shifting, full-suspension, and those limited range e-bikes, that require a mortgage to afford. Most impressive, is your video shows a bike on RUclips(a rarity), that does not cost thousands-of-dollars. Which is why most arrogant RUclips MTB viewers, frown on bikes less than five grand. That stated, I just ordered the XXL Marlin 7, with expected delivery by March 23rd. Just sooo exhausted of these pansies of RUclips, posting videos of how ya need a rear shock and wide tires, and carbon frames, for a no-hassle epic-journey and trail-blazing bike.

      I was into Mt. Bike riding pretty heavy in the mid 90's. Funny how the fast guys said more than a 2" travel fork, disk brakes and rear suspension is not needed. In fact, when Steve Simons and Mr. Turner took their first suspension fork to the Anaheim Mt. Bike trade show in 1987, (the first Rock Shox), they were laughed at. None of their bikes today will climb as easily as my 1995 TI framed 22lb Nuke Proof bike, (It was a 3 grand bike back then). I see no need to spend that much money on a bike today. Get one for the purpose, but it is still the rider, not the bike.
