Honestly I think the lesson here is less "if you're selling a bike, take good photos" and more "if you're buying a bike, don't get put off by bad photos". You saved a chunk of money by looking past the mediocre photos...
I've definitely found this with cars too. Adding a thorough description and describe some qualities of the car, along with good pictures once clean, people jump all over it. If you seem enthusiastic about the bike/car/whatever they get the impression that you probably took care of it.
It's more about that bad photos make the seller or the purchase itself seem shady while a good photo indicates that the seller actually cares on selling his product. This is why a lot of people are willing to pay more just to ensure that their purchase is worth it.
I would gladly pay your asking price for the work you did. Knowing it was gone over with by someone as meticulous as you are makes it a steal not to mention the extras you threw in. I'm just as picky with my stuff when it comes to keeping stuff clean and original. Presentation is EVERYTHING! I used to detail vehicles. It's amazing what you can do with some elbow grease. I've seen some pretty impressive transformations with just a little housekeeping. Lady got a screaming deal.
Soooo...all told a net loss. Your valuable time, fuel to transport the bike for both buy and sell, and the work you put into cleaning/adjusting it. In terms of flip, net loss...in terms of education on what not to do...priceless. Great video and absolutely worth my time. Thanks much.
This Flip Bike content is too good! Unfortunately I had somebody break into my house to steal a recent mountain bike project of mine. Proper gutted, but absolutely ready to get another one and go through the fixing up process all over again. Your Flip Bike series has been a big motivator for me to get into bikes and fixing them up. Love your approach and attitude to everything you do. From New Zealand, thank you!
First I want to say, home burglars should be executed for their crimes. Yes, I’m being absolutely serious. Second, I hope you had homeowners insurance or renters insurance.
It's stupid. As a general rule, you cannot make money flipping bikes. This guy drove hundreds of miles at $5 bucks a gallon to buy the bike. Then he spent hours washing and tuning the bike. Then spent more driving around to show the bike, probably 6 dollars a gallon this time. For all that work, he made a hundred whole dollars. Where he actually made money is making this video. He is full time RUclipsR. That is his job. Any money he made doing it is just extra, because the goal was not profit on the bike, the goal was profit on the video, which is probably in the 20 thousand dollar range. A guy a follow named "Uncle Tony" recently uploaded a video of how much money he made painting his engine. He's got about 200k subs. He made 11 thousand dollars on that video. Berm Peak has millions of subscribers and probably hundreds of thousands of views on this video within a month. Uncle Tony barely had 10s thousands of views. So this video should be worth at least 20k Dollars. Nobody would do all that work and put all those miles on his new-ish pick up truck to make a hundred bucks.
He didn’t do it to make a hundred bucks. He did it to make a point about your presentation and ad making a difference in the amount you sell a bike for.
A video detailing "newbie mistakes" would be a great idea! At my shop I often see folks come in with an issue that has a very simple solution or is cause by uneducated bike handling. You'd be surprised how many people ask "I'm not supposed to pedal when I shift right?" might be a good video to show common and simple mistakes and misconceptions for new bike owners!
If you agreed at 950 and you drive to where they wanted to meet up then had the audacity to change their offer to a low ball offer to you after wasting your time and gas... I would have left immediately without neogiating and went to the back up.
Extremely waiting for flip bike series, am so.. excited 😊 This made my day cool. I almost watch every flip bike series on mornings ,it make me feels good.
As a real estate broker, I see this all the time - poorly marketed homes selling for much less than they should. Prior to this seller-friendly market we're in now, they wouldn't sell at all.
That's exactly how I bought my house last year. We were constantly losing out on homes that we put offers on because so many other people were interested. Found a house a bit outside our budget with terrible photos that looked they they were taken on a mid 2000s flip phone and we got it far under their asking price because nobody even wanted to come look at the house based on the listing.
I'm just a kid getting into mtb and I love watching you and you are always teaching me new things I'm hitting bigger jumps and learning how to help other because of you and for that I thank you
There's probably a good reason why Seth didn't proceed with a full rundown of the sale. The buyer took advantage of Seth's generosity. Pricing it at 999 is already a steal and her decision to meet up at a bike shop and to suddenly offer 860 to Seth is a scummy move. Didn't they agree to a 950 deal? I somewhat hope the buyer didn't get the freebies lol
I agree and I also doubt Seth made anything from the sale because gas prices alone driving would cut the profit down. But hey these videos aren't really meant for profit meant for the entertainment:)
I love flipping bikes. This is my favorite part of Berm Peak/Express. You have come a long way since Seth's Bike Hacks and are a huge force in the industry. Thanks for your dedication and service to the mountain bike community.
You can always use a soft light filter, like a bed sheet, to soften the direct sun light. A price of foil insulation works as a reflector to help with shadows.
If you have access to something like work lights that are brighter than the sunlight you are shooting in (at the location of the shoot, say in the woods), you can use those too. Not all studio lighting is flash.
Just bought this exact bike (purple) for 1200 AUD in the exact same condition as this video. It was nice to see that I wasn't ripped and I bought a nice bike !!!
I have a roscoe 7, love it and wouldn't want to sell it. It'll outperform me for years to come, but still excited to see how much value I might be retaining
Please keep doing this series, as a bicycle addict myself I buy and sell bikes very often, not necessarily to make a profit but to ride and enjoy several cool and interesting bikes and then be able to sell them without breaking the bank, keep up the awesome videos Seth!
This is by far one my most favorite series youtube. Not sure why, maybe its the DIY guy in me but I get so stoked when a flipbike episode pops up. Keep em coming my dude.
Idk if it's "greedy" to expect someone to pay the price they agreed to **and** had a shop/mechanic verify the bike was actually worth **at least** that much... It's kind of a weird spot to put you in to start with (i.e. haggling in front of a bike shop), and having a mechanic say "yeah, the thing's mint; we sell'em for $1200 right inside" and she still turns around and says "$860, deal?" Pretty uncool, imo. Point being: you're generous, a good steward of the sport, and while it's obviously not all about the money, this could set kind of a bad precedent (though of course this kind of behavior is rife elsewhere on Marketplace). And I get it, she was trying to a) not get taken advantage of, and b) get a good deal, and that's totally fine -- but both those points would have been true even if she'd paid $999 or certainly $950. Taking $900 makes Seth the one who got taken advantage of, and he def doesn't deserve it given all he's done for the sport in the Asheville area.
There's a reason the bicycle blue book value the bike like that, no warranty. Doesn't matter how new the bike is it's still used. Getting that bike from a bike shop for 1200 is still a better deal, because most bike shops offer free service plus the lifetime warranty from trek.
@@adrianvalella6854 Free service maybe, but certainly not free parts (which would be the real cost if something went wrong), and the cost of a tuneup won’t negate the savings. Also, Trek warranties the frame, not the purchase as I recall, so it’s not like she’d be losing the lifetime warranty. In any case, that’s par for the course buying used, and Seth’s point that the BBB value assumes a year-old bike has measurable wear on components is more applicable here, except this bike has no appreciable wear.
I am a Trek employee. When we feel a used bike is the proper option for a customer, we tell them to meet the seller at a LBS because certain people dont know what to look for, sellers and buyers both. The most common thing we hear with bikes with big problems is "I bought this from someone..." and we immediately know the issue we are facing. So smart buyers will do this. Plus our mechanics are extremely good. When I say extremely, I mean I have been in the industry for years, working for brands like Cushcore, Specialized and other bike shops, now at Trek. These mechanics will look over your bike extensively and probably even test ride it themselves after checking bolts. Thats truly an awesome mechanic. We want the customer to have the best possible buying experience even if its not buying OUR bikes. The other thing is that this is truly an awesome beginner MTB. I mean think about it. How many hardtails, even used, can you buy with a dropper post under or around 1k? Not very many. Bang for the buck, this thing is damn hard to beat. The ONLY change I would personally like to see is to get rid of the square taper BB. But for a beginner? Who cares! That thing will totally rip! And for Seth directly, You certainly already know this, but you lost money on this after the tools and bottles and stuff. And add in the time in labor and on top of the driving and rescources after fixing it up, you spent at least $150 on it afterwards. I also understand you motivation to get new riders out there using gear instead of keeping it sitting. Glad it went to a good new rider experimenting/exploring in the MTB scene.
Thats great advice. Sold 3 bikes in the last year. Stripped down and full service all of them and got top end of price. The other thing i found is there was little or no haggling as they saw the bikes were in great shape. Probably spent half a day on each bike and it was worth it. Photos are tricky but they can be the difference in selling
Seth literally lost money by agreeing to 900 dollars even at 999$ it would've still been a steal deal, considering gas prices these days you definitely had a lose there but at least u get it back cuz this videos definitely blowing up once again. Keep up the good work Seth love your videos definitely makes my day.
I absolutely lost money lol. If I was doing this for a living I would have never taken $900. As much as I lost though, it's nothing compared to what the original guy did. If he just washed the bike and took better photos, some patience could have gotten him $1100 I think.
Wow, who remembers when Seth was Seth's Bike Hacks? I think I have watched him since 800k, and really his only two series were building up Berm Creek and the bike hacks videos. Now he has several successful bits, and its been really cool to see his channel grow.
You did the extra work, the money is earned. Shopping for used cars for my son recently I told him (on so many) if they can't be bothered to take decent pics, can't be sure how they cared for it / move on.
The tune up alone was worth the extra $100 to the person who bought it. Considering the extra gear to go along, you just helped a guy sell a bike and gave an extraordinary deal to the buyer. Well done.
Only found this channel recently, absolutely love it, I want to get back into the jumps and sketchy sh1t I was doing when I was younger on a much cheaper bike, this week I bought a 2022 ProGear duel suspension 19" trail bike for $617 (obviously with a discount code and the price already on special) so fairly it's a $869 mountain bike, I then went and bought a Deity copperhead 31.8mm stem, Deity bladerunner pedals, Deity supacush grips, Pro FRS high rise 31.8mm handlebar and Pro end plugs to get me started so without discounts and stuff I'm $1,415 into this deal and I can't wait ti get back out on trails and start flying again amd yours videos inspired me to do it, I originally bought the bike just ride around so thanks mate love it keep it up.
I made so much during the pandemic bike surge by buying bikes, doing simple cleaning, tuneups and doing good ads. It was free money. I’d sell bikes within minutes of listing them.
In the country Im currently residing, bikes are just given away and most of them are actually in decent condition. Made a killing out of it.. ANd whats better is that, its not taxable as long as you do it as a "hobby"
I've recently found your channel as I'm getting back into bike riding and I just now realized you're somewhat local as I live in SC. I have my old college bike, a 2009 Diamondback Outlook, which is old and tired. I had considered upgrading it by watching your channel but I've decided to look around for something already closer spec'd to what I want. Thanks for the awesome content!
Learning how to fix and tune a bike is such a nice skill to have. I definately saved a ton of money doing everything myself, and it's also fun. Every time I got someone wondering how much my bike is, they were thinking about something like $1500. I was like, meh, I paid $350. LOL
Amazing work. I love what you do. It would be nice to see how much you can restore an older bike, no disk breaks and all. You seriously do an amazing job ! You inspire me to update as much as possible my bike and my kids bikes. THANK YOU !
Hey, Seth! I have an amazing Giant Farrago that I cant ride anymore after an injury. I'd love to donate it, find it a good home, and see what you could do with it! It's more of a road hybrid bike but maybe you could make it MTB friendly! Lmk, cheers
I've just done the same thing with a motorcycle. It was advertised with the wrong brand with terrible photos and no description. Bought it for $1200 aud and have sold it for $2000 aud after just 5 days. All I did was wash it, ride it a little, fix up a few little things and take better photos, make a better advertisement with a great description. Not a bad way to make some quick cash
Thank you Seth! I once helped a buddy of mine sell his bike online and he wasn’t getting many offers, but I retook the pictures with a decent camera and good lighting, and rewrote his description and he managed to sell it for 300$ more than what he was asking! Really great tips for the mountain bike community to know!
Seth is one generous dude. Putting the new grips on, taking the time to clean it, dial it in, meet at a bike shop to get it checked out (good move by the consumer), and then still agree to a lower price when the bike shop said it was basically brand new and he still says he came out ahead? Man, generous dude. I bet he still gave the bottles and swag.
He's definitely a generous dude. That's the problem b/c he's making money on the backend with youtube and this isn't accurately reflecting a real life scenario.
Very valuable video im trying to sell my first MTB right now and I could use all the tips I can get. I appreciate it. Cleaned it, checked it out, took ok pics but not like yours by any stretch. Thanks Seth!
I have a Roscoe 8 for my hardtail. Great bike, it is so much better with an air fork (like what comes on the 7 and 8) than with the coil (which the 6 comes with). That would've been one upgrade I would've done.
Love my Roscoe 7! FYI for Roscoe owners if you get tired of the cup and cone bearing in the rear, trek now sells a sealed bearing wheel with end caps for the boost 141, and it has awesome points of engagement!
There is no way that i just ordered my Trek Roscoe 6 and then you post a video with the bike. Must be a sign. Nice video, thanks for doing stuff like that.
Really enjoyed your video. I especially appreciate your attention to detail when preparing the bike (or product) for sale. Then again, you were very fortunate to get this bike, no scratches or major repairs. The original owner had the right price but obviously slacked on preparing the bike for sale visually. The Trek “Roscoe” model seems very popular right now, and that color was hot! PS - nothing irritates me more than seeing a great bike that is poorly cared for. Looking forward to the next episode.
This is a great example of how it isn't usually worth it to flip a bike. He made $100 and probably did at least 2 hours of work including pictures and photography, then spent probably another hour or so actually selling it. That isn't the worst hourly rate, but there are likely better ways to spend your time. Also, I wonder how much Seth being something of a known quantity comes into play, he didn't make it sound that way, but might have the lady stuck to her guns on $860 if it was just an average citizen not wielding swag? They make for entertaining videos though!
Thanks man this made my day. Makes me wish i scoured the internet for a lightly used rockhopper but im still the happiest person alive with my budget rockhopper from specialized. Keep on keepin on bro! You make my day wayyy better!!
The joke is that people might expect me to go back and give the $100 to him. I considered this as an ending and several friends suggested it, so I thought it would be a common enough thought to make it into a joke, but it may have gone over some peoples’ heads. Just know that nobody every considered going back there and laughing in his face.
@@SethsBikeHacks Sorry for not being clear. Seth (you?) seem like a genuinely nice fellow. I didn’t think you would do it, i was referring to anyone who would seriously think it was a good idea.
Plus let's not forget that Seth spent a couple of hours and god knows how much gas to drive to get the bike and bring it back, had the tools and knowledge to take the drive train apart, clean, adjust, and lube the bike, then spend more time to drive the bike to a bike shop and deal with a low-balling person...all for an Extra $100 so the guy could have laughed right back while sipping on his latte because all that extra time and effort may have not been worth it to the original seller. To be fair, had the seller done these things in the first place, they would have had to make one trip to meet with the seller but the fact that Seth had to drive an hour to get the bike may mean that there weren't potential buyers in that area and would have at least spent a couple of hours to drive to meet with a buyer and perhaps several buyers.
I wasn't thinking about laughing at the original guy. I was thinking the $100 profit was offset by all the driving!!! Great vid though - keep em coming.
This bike was in such a good condition. I can't believe that the guy selling originally rode the bike for the entire year. The woman you sold it to... this was not her first negotiation. It's cool that you gave some freebies. She is probably in the clouds over this deal. Great video. One request. If in the future you have to work on a derailleur or replace it, can you explain how to mount it properly and how to get the tension correct. Thanks.
Let me start by saying that I really like Flip Bike and your other videos that have entertained me and helped me learn new things about MTBs. It is very helpful to people and promotes fixing bikes up rather than adding to the waste in our dumps. You have always been a class act with everything that you do. This video was not one of your best near the end of your video. When you said that it would have been a cool ending by driving down and waving $100 bucks in the previous owner’s face, I could not believe that you would say something like that. You said that you decided not to do it because you didm’t want to drive down there. Well the only difference is proximity, because you basically did the same thing only digitally. I am not sure if the guy that you initially bought the bike from was not great to work with or even mean to you. We all say things that we sometimes wish that we could take back so I get it. I always had someone to “reel me in” when I said or did something that was not great, so I am paying it forward.
I have not owned a bike for the better part of a decade, but this channel is just so entertaining. I feel i have more knowledge about bikes than most people that actually own one lol.
I think there's a lot of factors in this video that weren't considered to being the reason why the bike could be sold at a higher price. Yes, the pictures work wonders to show how good the condition of the bike is, but I think location also makes a big difference. Selling bikes in a place like South Carolina where Seth bought it may be much harder because of lack of interest and less trails in the area. Asheville is possibly one of the best places to sell a bike because of such a dense population of those interested in mountain biking, which might be a contributing factor for why Seth was able to sell it more quickly at a higher price
Reflector or not is probably one of those "local traffic regulations" thing. Certainly, in Sweden, front, rear, and side reflectors are required for a bicycle to be road-legal in the dark.
ALWAYS meet at a bike shop when buying a used bike! This is one time Seth was incorrect. All shops encourage it, they’ll usually check it out for free, give you prices on the spot for what needs to be fixed, which gives you bargaining power if need be. And if you’re selling, this keeps you from being low balled, shows the seller you have nothing to hide, and shows contrast in pricing from new to used. It also gives you or the other party the opportunity to grab any essentials you may need for your maiden voyage which supports your local shop.
Let's recap, So she says she wants the bike, gets it checked out by bike mechanics, all good, looks mint accommodation, proceeds to LOWBALL an offer after getting it verified it's still practically brand new, also most likely knows by now that it has an extra $100+ in brand new products that are freebees and still haggles to $900. 😂 I would have walked! Some people, I tell ya!
I get that this video is about the importance of posting a nice ad, but if I was just flipping a bike and not trying to make content, I would consider that $100 over what I spent either a loss or breaking even with the amount of time and driving. I absolutely love these videos, looking forward to more!
Seth, Something I saw on TikTok is to never go $999. People with the extra money will enter search parameters starting at $1k and will never see your ad. By pricing it initially at $999 you've rendered your ad invisible to so many potential buyers. They said that the whole $999 thing is so 2010. Price your ads with nice round numbers and you should see better results. Hope this helps going forward. Love the series.
Jesus if someone wanted to meet me at a bike shop because they didn't trust me and then keep trying to low ball me after they find out the bikes in great shape. I'm not selling it to them lol
I find that when I’m looking for anything used, the pictures matter a lot as many people only put 1 or 2 pictures with barely anything in the description which really puts me and probably others off. So when I see that there’s loads of pictures and a big description I feel much more comfortable spending more on used items
I accually bought this exact bike last year. Works great and I love it. Def a great start into mountian biking. I'm surprised you didn't change the pedals, the ones that come stock are super crappy. Anyways enjoyed the video
i have this bike and can honestly say that you can’t really get much better the speed and the handling when your in the air on the jumps is so good and the brakes are just amazing aswell short brakes fro sharp turns the lot i really recommended it to anyone who wants to start mounting biking as it’s easy to ride 😁
If I drove to a bike shop to have the bike milled over by a random tech to then have the buyer low ball me even more with some bike blue book nonsense? I would be laughing and leaving with my bike. Yea that person did NOT deserve that bike...Its petty but I hope you kept your swag.
I think bad photos are also sometimes good for marketing because it looks more genuine. Some products that have really good photos sometimes look fake and is not the real thing so photos like what this bike was in, actually looked very real and genuine so people would think that what's in the photo would be what it would also look like in real life. I think the guy selling this was probablly just unlucky lmao
You know, I've been on the fence for a while to rebuild my 2015 GT kataram it's got 29's hydraulic brakes and it's a great bike. But it's in rough shape. This video is motivating me more and more to just rebuild it and upgrade it. Thanks Seth, now I need to go spend more money! Haha
Not sure if this was mentioned in a previous video but if you are looking to start flipping bikes it's helps to know your market. He lives in Asheville which is a very well established MTB area in comparison to other places. I recommend figuring out what type of bike is most popular in your area and sticking to that or get good at targeting a niche that has no competition. For example: I live in Nashville TN and work at a bike shop. Most people in Nashville are hipsters that want to start riding so they will gravitate to Hybrids or Good Vintage bikes with new parts.
Nice job on the clean up , photos and sale. It turned out perfect. Too cool. My dog Max rides around in the same seat basket. He loves it as it lets him see out the car windows. Best wishes to you and yours.
As someone who has bought and sold many many bikes on CL over the last 20 years, I can see both sides to this. As a buyer, it's definitely good to leverage an inexperienced seller (eg, a post that easily gets missed, or has sparse descriptions, bad photos, etc.) to get a good deal. As a seller, there is value in cleaning up the bike a bit and taking good pics for the posting (I tend to be lazy with respect to cleaning, and more thoughtful with respect to taking good pictures). As a buyer, it's sometimes worth a shot to leverage BBB valuations in negotiations. As a seller, I understand that those valuations can sometimes be way off (I've actually discussed this with the folks at BBB at their HQ before the pandemic). As a seller, I know what my stuff is worth and know when to negotiate and when to stay firm. As a seller, I'm very hesitant to go out of my way to meet someone just to try to save a sale (way too many flaky buyers out there). In this case, I would have just said "this bike is basically brand new, I'm throwing in some freebies, and I've come all this way to meet you, and agreed to your request for a mechanic review. Given that I have multiple offers already, I am firm on my price." But in this case, the author stated he was open to negotiation and that a price wasn't agreed upon before meeting up (not mentioned in video but in the comments), so I think the way it went down is fine. Not how I would have done it but our situations and motivations are different.
I feel like the ppl that end up buying these bikes have no idea how badass seth is! Like they have no idea they got to meet one of our favorite youtubers! I also wonder if they ever stumble upon these videos afterwards and can actually see all the effort he put into their new bike 🤔
Good lighting and photos makes a world of difference. And definitely wash the bike. Then again. Someone else bad photos and neglect is bonus for me when buying a bike to flip. Others don't have the vision or time to clean a bike. Most of the time they won't bother and I can get the bike at a good price.
LOL, when u said, so let's just sit around for a while and just... stare at it! I swear, I got a smile on my face and went, "sure" and proceeded to just... yeah... kept at it. Such a peaceful thing to have done. Maybe cuz I love mountain bikes especially the one by drive train ones and with the typical features that u guys take for granted but for a bicycle lover in India who hasn't been able to be too into current bicycles except when on youtube :) I dunno... I love it. With the dropper seat posts and all... I'll join u to chill n stare at it if u really want to LOL
i learned that the work you put into it , tune up, detail and the extras you gave with the bike and the travel to go get it and deliver it left you in the hole about 100 bucks. i get the extras were most likely free to you but wouldn't be to the average person selling the bike. i detail bikes and charge a 125 flat rate than can go up depending on how bad the bike is. even without the extras i wouldn't say this was a good flip.
I enjoy the flip bike episodes and am glad to see they are working for the channel. Let’s see one where you don’t leave $ on the table. Every flip I’ve seen you could have sold for more. On the flip side-Seth’s approach to sales is really to “brake” even (see what I did there)🤣, and spread the joy and enthusiasm of mountain biking! It seems like the bike shop did the best in this deal. Do the buyers really not recognize you?
Agree 100% 10 good pictures with a freshly cleaned and tuned bike sell fast . Speaking from experience I have sold over 300 bikes in the last 3 + years . 😳🤙🏻
Driving an hour, cleaning, tuning it up, dealing with all the low-ballers and all the time it takes in negotiations, then the time to go meet the buyer at the bike shop... was not worth $100, lol. But this is useful for anyone selling a bike, or anything, really. I've never understand why people don't even bother to clean what they're selling, like not even a simple wiping off of the dust! Whatever it is you're selling, clean it, make sure it's working properly, and take good photos.
Honestly I think the lesson here is less "if you're selling a bike, take good photos" and more "if you're buying a bike, don't get put off by bad photos". You saved a chunk of money by looking past the mediocre photos...
Or you could say don’t buy bikes with good photos because you’ll end up paying up!!
That's absolutely true. If you're looking for a sweet deal, you need to find the bikes that everyone else missed!
I've definitely found this with cars too. Adding a thorough description and describe some qualities of the car, along with good pictures once clean, people jump all over it. If you seem enthusiastic about the bike/car/whatever they get the impression that you probably took care of it.
@@inoita11 yeah
Flip bike! One of my favorite series. I stumbled upon the channel being an RC addict; now I'm a MTN Bike addict too. Lol
Haha same now i dont even touch my rcs anymore
Sold my kraton for bike parts lol
It's wild to me that people found Seth through RC and switched to bikes and not the other way around. I'm the opposite. Kind of funny
You'd be surprised how many people ask "I'm not supposed to pedal when I shift right?" might be a good video to show common and simple mistakes and misconceptions for new bike owners!
wait you aren't?

If you agreed at 950 and you drive to where they wanted to meet up then had the audacity to change their offer to a low ball offer to you after wasting your time and gas... I would have left immediately without neogiating and went to the back up.
Yeah I thought that was greasy as hell too. Met up at a bike shop no less that verified everything even and she still tried to lowball.
Hopefully, he didn't give her all the free goodies...but he probably did since Seth is nicer than me.
With all the goodies, grip upgrades, gas, cleaning materials, lube, brake materials and time, was there really a $100 profit?
@@jasonpensy8043 He made less than $3/hour PLUS (1 million views) AKA the real money.. or "reel" money I guess.

Extremely waiting for flip bike series, am so.. excited 😊
This made my day cool.
I almost watch every flip bike series on mornings ,it make me feels good.
As a real estate broker, I see this all the time - poorly marketed homes selling for much less than they should. Prior to this seller-friendly market we're in now, they wouldn't sell at all.
That's how I got Berm Peak!
@@SethsBikeHacks ❤️
here people see those as flip apartment/houses and bid them up to a regular marketvalue anyway
that is how I got my house 6 years ago... there's no way I could buy a house now.
I'm just a kid getting into mtb and I love watching you and you are always teaching me new things I'm hitting bigger jumps and learning how to help other because of you and for that I thank you
Especially flip bike
There's probably a good reason why Seth didn't proceed with a full rundown of the sale. The buyer took advantage of Seth's generosity. Pricing it at 999 is already a steal and her decision to meet up at a bike shop and to suddenly offer 860 to Seth is a scummy move. Didn't they agree to a 950 deal?
I somewhat hope the buyer didn't get the freebies lol
that behaviour is unacceptable
I agree and I also doubt Seth made anything from the sale because gas prices alone driving would cut the profit down. But hey these videos aren't really meant for profit meant for the entertainment:)
Yah, so curious on the response if she got freebies.
Anyways let's just focus on the positive and on Seth's generocity
Totally agree. "People, what a bunch of bastards" IT Crowd
I agree. I bet he didn’t give her the swag. I hate people that agree to buy something then try to lowball. That’s BS! That’s a nice bike !!
Love this series. In the past year I've bought four old bikes to flip. Except now I have four old bikes I enjoy riding. Foster failure.
I have a roscoe 7, love it and wouldn't want to sell it. It'll outperform me for years to come, but still excited to see how much value I might be retaining
Big fan of mine too. They're just plain fun
I’ve got two R6 and will never get rid of them. Fun bikes to shred with!
I agree. That’s a shitty move on her part. I hope she didn’t get the free goodies.
There's a reason the bicycle blue book value the bike like that, no warranty. Doesn't matter how new the bike is it's still used. Getting that bike from a bike shop for 1200 is still a better deal, because most bike shops offer free service plus the lifetime warranty from trek.
Agreed. She was a shitty customer
@@JokingJay All good points plus buying new adds sales tax of course.
He’s mentioned a number of “beginner errors”. I would love to see him go over a deep dive of professional quality service/cleaning.

He does it for the video…
I absolutely lost money lol. If I was doing this for a living I would have never taken $900. As much as I lost though, it's nothing compared to what the original guy did. If he just washed the bike and took better photos, some patience could have gotten him $1100 I think.
A small price to pay for potentially getting someone into cycling/ Mountainbiking, which can impact their life forever.

He's definitely a generous dude. That's the problem b/c he's making money on the backend with youtube and this isn't accurately reflecting a real life scenario.

Another small thing that goes a long way is a really good detailed description of the bike
Hey Seth, cool video and generous of you to throw in some gifts. Good work, beautiful clean bike!
Right?! What a waste of time.... I'm sure he even spent 60+ hours filming and editing the video.
Not including the 2 hours+ round trip picking up the bike + gas. I love Seth and his videos but this is not a realistic way to actually make money.

Laugh in his face? This guy did nothing wrong or sneaky. He just didn’t know enough. Glad you didn’t do that.
My daughter bought that same bike in purple, she loves it. That new of one is definitely worth the money!
Love this series so much. Thanks Seth!
Thanks.
He had it for almost a year. He only rode it a couple of times the little strings were still sticking out on the tires.
@@MichaelRei99 that lady got a real good deal.
I love this video series! keep them coming Seth.(:
Loved the lounge-lizard music during the bike photoshoot segment. Stay safe out there!
Reflector or not is probably one of those "local traffic regulations" thing. Certainly, in Sweden, front, rear, and side reflectors are required for a bicycle to be road-legal in the dark.
Federal in the states.
Yeah it's federal. Mainly meant for kids, not adults.
No federal law to wear helmets.
And despite the federal law for reflector sales, every bike you could buy at Walmart has a sticker on it “do not ride at night”

The seller is a nice guy. However, if I did all that work and the buyer agreed to $950. I would have turned down the $900 and walked.
I don't think she got the freebees. She got her $900 worth and no extras.
I get that this video is about the importance of posting a nice ad, but if I was just flipping a bike and not trying to make content, I would consider that $100 over what I spent either a loss or breaking even with the amount of time and driving. I absolutely love these videos, looking forward to more!
Great video as always, Seth!
By the way, would you mind sharing the brand and where you get that transparent bleeder cup? Thanks🤘
True. And, if somebody wants to set a maximum filter of $1000, they're still gonna see the ad- because nobody is going to set a maximum of $999.
I'm glad i'm not the only one whose first mod is to ditch the reflectors. Makes them look more serious.
Seth cleaning and tuning a bike is worth more than $100.
I got a Roscoe 6 with intention to flip and it needed a lot of work. It’s now my #1 trail bike.

If I drove to a bike shop to have the bike milled over by a random tech to then have the buyer low ball me even more with some bike blue book nonsense? I would be laughing and leaving with my bike.
Yea that person did NOT deserve that bike...Its petty but I hope you kept your swag.
A lot of this felt like a classic Seth video. It was refreshing.

I love the comments going into great detail how he lost money on this deal.... I wish I could lose money like Seth...
Seth considered mocking the original owner of the Roscoe 💀

Hey Seth, you should show us and go over all of your bikes in your collection

Good lighting and photos makes a world of difference. And definitely wash the bike. Then again. Someone else bad photos and neglect is bonus for me when buying a bike to flip. With the dropper seat posts and all... I'll join u to chill n stare at it if u really want to LOL
Enjoyed your video! Loved the way you cleaned and tuned that nice bike.
i learned that the work you put into it , tune up, detail and the extras you gave with the bike and the travel to go get it and deliver it left you in the hole about 100 bucks. i get the extras were most likely free to you but wouldn't be to the average person selling the bike. i detail bikes and charge a 125 flat rate than can go up depending on how bad the bike is. even without the extras i wouldn't say this was a good flip.
I would recommend picking up a set of Muc-Off brake covers, it really helps to not get any shampoo on the disks and saves you a lot of hassle.
@@rockapartie Yea I mixed them up but you are right.
I think that every bike you flipped are awesome but this one is definitely one of the best
Agree 100% 10 good pictures with a freshly cleaned and tuned bike sell fast . Speaking from experience I have sold over 300 bikes in the last 3 + years . 😳🤙🏻
I like how he said that he was gonna wait for the lighting to be better for photos and then he cuts to a photo/video montage that looks really good
I feel like Seth has better reach than most people and more experienced on how/who to contact buyers.
Sir you are a good man! Always learn and enjoy your videos! Thank you!
