      @n8_vel868 2 года назад

      @@sepg5084 well maybe but knowing that trek makes really good bikes especially budget ones, I'm pretty sure the parts they use while not being top tier is a bigger step up from Walmart tier parts. While Walmart may use cable disc brakes, the brake pads themselves and the calipers themselves are made a lot cheaper and most of the time don't even have names. Trek doesn't really use no name parts when it comes to something important relating to safety aspects of the bike. And Tektro brakes from my experience work way better than Walmart brakes and stop pretty strong and if it works good I don't see the need to getting new ones 🤷

To be more specific, the sprocket side crank arm snapped at the spider mid climb and took out a hunk of my leg. I noticed the iXF crankset on this Trek. I bought some last year from Amazon UK which came with a bottom bracket. This was replacing a Shimano octalink BB which I fitted weeks earlier and the 22, 32, 42 chainring.
    The iXF bottom bracket was too tight for the spindle so I ended up buying an el Gallo bottom bracket which beautifully matches the red iXF crankset.
    Paired with a Snail 36T oval then 36T round chainring and recently replaced chain and cassette my 2010 Specialized feels like a new bike.
    I did notice a difference between oval and round. Oval seems slightly easier going up inclines and round is faster on the flat.
    The iXF crankset is not top notch by any means. But for my weekday road ride to work it suits me just fine.

    Instead of flipping outdated xc bikes you should do some early 2000s clasic full suspensions like the norco shore or the kona stinky. That would be sick!

    Personally I think Seth is getting really lucky with these sales, 640 is still steep for that bike, I get there are some decent parts on it like the rear mech, but you can buy a much more modern bike for that money used.

      Glad to see someone else agrees, it had cable brakes… that alone would mean I wouldn’t pay more than £300 for it, especially for a bike that age

      You're probably right, but at the same time this bike does get the "trek tax" plus used prices vary more than you'd expect based on your location

      Well to all those points, I'm pretty sure a trek roscoe 6 within the last 3 years is like 800 rn where I am so although that is expensive for what a roscoe 6 has, it isn't much more than the 700 Seth was asking

    I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now , this is awesome. After looking at new ones for a bit I actually just found and bought this exact Gary fisher trek marlin off marketplace. I think I paid around 150 for it but it had hardly been ridden by an much older guy just around camp grounds and kept inside. Same color and everything too. From my research I think it’s a 2012 . This video helped me so much because I have been wondering what I could do to it . Thank you so much for your videos 😊

    Hey Seth I have a question about painting seats. Don't you think after a while of constant riding that the paint would rub off on someone's pants eventually? I was always curious of that every time I see you painting a seat.

    Hi Seth, got a question. I know it's a flip bike, but it's a size large, so mechanical brakes are just not safe when you have some extra pounds. A pair of basic shimano or magura brakes, or even the popular in Europe - shigura ( shimano lever with a magura caliper) would be better and safer. First step of having fun is to have control in order to learn learn. cheers mate!

    • @zacht017
      @zacht017 2 года назад +2

      I kind of agree. But being someone how has had a bike with cable and hydraulic(same bike i swapped to hydraulic because i couldnt get pads) cable breaks are more then enough to cause the tire to lock up and slow you down. Granted they are not as easy to keep from locking up and need some force at times. I wouldnt say they are unsafe.

    I don't get how you're selling bikes like this for this much, at $640, mechanical brakes, a suntour coil fork, and that much age on a bike should have made it sell for a lot less. Around me you can get a late 00s or early 10s full sus with air suspension and hydraulic brakes for that much

      Different markets all around the country and the power of being a good seller. The way he photographs and describes the bike in the ad helps immensely. Some people are just not good sellers and will do one or two crappy photos and no details in the description. There’s a lot of money to be made just by flipping stuff with better ads.

    Thanks Seth. You make the video look so easy to understand and process. I do know it takes time when you put your hands on bike to fix and repair yet you are so much inspirational that I want to jump on and do. I remember first time I saw your video, I finished all the videos and digging all of your videos. Now I have been watching your channel over 3 years and I learned a lot. Now I am dealing with neighbours, friends and their friends in my locals for bike tune ups and repairs. First flip bike for DB was one that I am dealing with most in my garage shop since I have so many seniors dropping by with their old classic bikes. Well, now the trends are eBike for seniors and I was wondering if you happen to try convert one of your bike to eBike. That would be fun contents that you may interest. Anyway, thanks again for awesome videos and helpful tips.

With a locked out fork it works great on gravel rail trails/ blacktop. On a side note -I like the background music in your videos …keep up the good work!

    That is a proper nice looking bike; I'd buy it because I love Trek bikes. The only thing I'd swap out is the cable brakes to hydraulic. I love these bike flip vids; they inspire me, though I'm probably never going to get into flipping bikes. I'm an English teacher in Italy and actually talk to a lot of my students about mountain biking because where I live, there are so many amazing trails that many of them want to try out but think they can't afford it.
    It just goes to show that you can ride without an exaggerated cost. Keep it up, Seth; you're an inspiration.

    It's the everyone's favorite series! It's like doing a great public service what you are doing. I wish there was a one Seth at every city of every country. Really learning along these how to service bike parts and get life back to those that are beaten! If you could add a little segment for one episode of how you tune up used bike (brake, drivetrain) that would be awesome! Really thinking I should service my old bike to get back to road after all these years.
